Disaster Recovery Projects
Dashboard
Charlotte County has launched a new Disaster Recovery Projects Dashboard at www. charlottecountyfl.gov/ disasterprojects, allowing residents to track more than 1,200 completed, ongoing, and planned recovery projects stemming from five named storms since 2022. The tool features an interactive map, searchable project list, funding details, descriptions of repairs, and the storm events that caused the damage, with total costs estimated to exceed $190 million. While awaiting FEMA funding for many efforts, the County Commission has authorized use of hurricane reserve funds to expedite key repairs, including the recently reopened Englewood Beach parking lot. Updated in real time, the dashboard offers residents an accessible way to follow progress on parks and amenities across the county.
Online Tool for Flood Risk
The Charlotte County Community Development Department has launched a new online platform that will make floodplain information more accessible and easier to understand. “Forerunner” is a digital tool designed to help users better understand their flood risk, navigate compliance requirements, and make more informed

decisions when it comes to flood preparedness. The platform will provide property-specific flood information, including FEMA flood zone designations, base flood elevations, and access to existing elevation certificates. Residents will also be able to submit digitally signed certificates and contact floodplain coordinators through the platform. Forerunner will be available at CharlotteCountyFL. gov/flood. Video tutorials and additional resources will also be made available to help users navigate the system. Forerunner also supports ongoing efforts to improve Charlotte County’s Community Rating System score, which can help reduce flood insurance premiums for residents. For more information, contact Kellie Stewart at Kellie. Stewart@CharlotteCountyFL. gov.
Charlotte County Sandbags
As part of its ongoing hurricane preparedness efforts, Charlotte County Public Works is currently providing free sand and sandbags to residents. The self-service stations will be open daily from dawn to dusk, and residents are asked to bring their own shovels and be prepared to fill
and transport up to 10 sandbags per household. Sandbag station location is 6874 San Casa Drive. Note: Sandbags are best suited for areas expecting less than 15 inches of flooding from rain or tides. They are not effective against storm surge or wave action from hurricanes. For more tips on hurricane preparation and flooding safety, visit CharlotteCountyFL.gov.
Sea Turtle Nesting Season
Sea turtle nesting season runs from now through October 31 in Charlotte County. Each year, loggerhead, green, and a few Kemp’s Ridley sea turtles come to our beaches to lay their eggs. Stakes, flagging and signs marking the nest location can be seen up and down the shoreline. Charlotte County Parks and Natural Resources advises beach patrons to give the nests some space when setting up on the beach, fill in any holes and knock down sandcastles when you leave. If you’re on the beach at night, do not use flashlights or cell phone lights as they can deter nesting or confuse hatchlings returning to the water. For information, contact Alexandria Grant, Environmental Specialist

Back Pain That Steals More Than Just Comfort
For many people living with chronic lower back pain, sciatica, spinal stenosis or degenerative disc disease, daily life becomes a negotiation with discomfort Bending to tie a shoe, lifting a grocery bag, or standing in line can trigger pain that radiates down the legs or locks the body in tension Sleep becomes disrupted, and mornings are often the hardest; waking with aching stiffness that makes even getting out of bed a struggle
Some experience a constant, dull ache; others describe sharp, shooting pain, numbness, or weakness in the legs In spinal stenosis, narrowing of the spinal canal compresses nerves, often mimicking sciatica or neuropathy Over time, people stop doing the things they love; not by choice, but because of pain, fear of flare-ups, or loss of mobility While some are offered injections

An Integrative Alternative
At Sage Point Acupuncture & Integrative Medicine in Venice, FL, founder Lauren Milligan and her team offer non-invasive, drug-free options for chronic back pain and spinal conditions
Every patient begins with a comprehensive assessment to determine whether they are a candidate for care This may include a physical exam and functional testing to evaluate nerve irritation, muscle tension, inflammation, and movement patterns
When appropriate, the clinic provides a personalized treatment plan designed to reduce inflammation, improve circulation, and support healing using a blend of acupuncture and advanced integrative therapies “We focus on what’s driving the pain, not just where it hurts,” says Dr Milligan “And we tailor every care plan to the specific individual ”
Patient Case Study: Restoring Confidence
After
Years of Pain
Carol, a 72-year-old Venice resident, came to the clinic after years of worsening lower back pain Her discomfort radiated down her legs and made it difficult to drive, walk, or perform daily tasks
Mornings were especially hard, she often woke feeling locked in her body
Her Neurologist had prescribed medication, but it offered little relief She had started to withdraw from family activities, including walking her grandchildren to school, and the annual family cruise A thorough initial assessment at Sage Point Acupuncture revealed inflammation, postural compensations, and signs of nerve compression
Based on her new patient consultation, Carol was found to be a good candidate for care A personalized treatment plan was created using acupuncture, integrative medicine treatment, and corrective movement guidance to reduce pain and restore function
Over the following weeks, Carol noticed improvements in flexibility, confidence, and pain reduction By the end of her treatment plan, she had resumed walking short distances and was picking up her grandkids from school and taking them to their activities again Routines that once felt out of reach
There’s Still Time to Reclaim Your Life
Many patients at Sage Point Acupuncture experience improvements, even after years of symptoms, when the right support is in place If you’ve been sidelined by back pain or spinal issues, don’t wait. Your next chapter doesn’t have to be written in pain Call today to set up a consultation at (941) 451 - 8154

Young Gentlemen’s League Guides Middle School Boys in Leadership and Character
A group of 14 middle school boys in Englewood has become the first class of the Young Gentlemen’s League, a new mentorship program created to teach respect, accountability, and leadership at a pivotal age. Brian Faro, an Englewood resident and co-owner of Paradise Exclusive Real Estate, has launched a program that meets after school at Sky Academy. The 12week program brings together seventh and eighth-grade boys for weekly sessions on respect, responsibility, and empathy. He discussed the program recently in an interview on WENG Radio with Mary Jones. “Getting a kid at that age to read my book might be difficult,” Brian said, referencing his 2024 release Self-Inflicted Success. “But going into the classroom, interacting with them and sharing real-life examples gives them a chance to learn and choose the right path.”
The league’s inaugural group includes 14 boys who meet once a week for about an hour. Brian said the sessions cover values such as good manners, accountability, leadership through action, and empathy for others. “The first thing I told them was, if you’re on time, you’re late,” he said. “When I walked in there, for the first class, all 14 of them were sitting at a desk, ready to go. Whoa. I was pretty impressed. That accountability is necessary in life.” In that opening

week, students practiced handshakes and eye contact. Brian said staff members quickly noticed improvements. “It’s little things like that which build confidence and show respect,” he said. For Faro, empathy is at the heart of the program. “When you meet someone, you have no idea what they’re going through,” he said. “If these boys can understand that and show kindness, they can change how someone feels in that moment.”
The Young Gentlemen’s League will continue up to right before Thanksgiving, with participants graduating at the end of the 12 weeks. Faro said his hope is to see the program grow beyond Sky Academy. “If it’s successful enough, we can structure it into a format other schools can use,” he said. “I don’t care if it’s anywhere across the nation or the world, as long as it helps kids.” For more information about the Young Gentlemen’s League, Brian can be reached through his website, BrianFaro.com.
