of integrity, and a heart for Christian service
Dear San Jose Episcopal Day School Family,
Sloane A. Castleman, Ed.D.
I hope this letter finds you well and filled with the same joy and excitement that has surrounded our school this year I am writing to you today with a heart full of gratitude and a deep sense of appreciation for the incredible generosity our community has shown
This past year, our theme was inspired by Scripture: “Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as you are already doing” (1 Thessalonians 5:11). We have truly embraced this theme, and your support has allowed us to build and strengthen our programs in ways we could only dream
Thanks to your extraordinary giving, we have made remarkable advancements this year Your contributions enabled us to secure live security for our campus, ensuring that our top priority, the protection of our children, is met with the highest standards. This commitment to safety has provided us with invaluable peace of mind.
Additionally, your generosity allowed us to begin a massive refurbishment of our gymnasium, a project that had not been undertaken in decades The roof was repaired, the interior was repainted, and new flooring, a state-of-the-art scoreboard, new fully-accessible retractable bleachers and a new, professional volleyball system was installed These improvements enhance the physical environment but also enrich the learning experiences of our students during this precious and sacred stage of life called childhood.
One of the most heartwarming examples of your support was the record-breaking contributions to our paddle raise this year Your willingness to come forward and give so generously is a testament to the strength and unity of our community. Indeed, it is through your generous philanthropy that we are able to provide our children with an even greater educational experience, nurturing their minds, hearts, and spirits
I want to personally thank each and every one of you–parents, grandparents, faculty, and friends of our school–for your unwavering support of SJEDS Your contributions are not just financial; they are acts of love and faith that build up our entire community
As we look to the future, I am filled with hope and excitement for all that we will accomplish together. Your continued support and involvement will undoubtedly help us achieve even greater heights, creating a legacy of excellence and compassion for generations to come
M G d bl d f ili s abundantly. Thank you for being such an integral part of our San Jose an love,
The Rev. Stephen C. Britt
San Jose Episcopal Church Sunday
As we look toward the 2024–2025 school year, we have two marvelous anniversaries to celebrate In 2025, the Day School celebrates its 75th birthday, and the buildings and property turn the ripe old age of 100!
It boggles my mind to imagine the number of lives that San Jose’s school has touched in 75 years Students, parents, clergy, and staff have been interacting here now for a very long time It is an impressive milestone We are especially grateful to those who came before us, who set the tone by creating a loving and gentle community where excellence and achievement become the norm. Our Day School is the sweetest community of its kind that I have ever seen, and I look forward to celebrating the past 75 years with special events scheduled for this school year
The year 1925 is almost impossible to imagine. The roaring 20‘s, the country’s first motor cars–images that seem so remote a hundred years forward. Our property began life as the real estate office for the great San Jose Estates project, which was the San Jose Hotel (now Bolles) and the state-of-the-art Donald Ross golf course and clubhouse (the current country club), as well as the first of the houses built in grand Spanish style (many of which still remain).

The project faltered in the bust of 1929, but together we remain historically important and registered on the National Historic Places list The church itself sat empty briefly, and was also, briefly, a casino, before Jessie Ball duPont bought out the other investors and gave the property over to a group of worshippers to start a church in the late 30's.
The church, in 1950, opened the school where the two big birthdays meet and we celebrate them together as linked
It’s important to recognize the past, to give credit to founders, and to recommit, always, to the visions of faith, education, and heritage with which we have been gifted. I look forward to celebrating with all of you in the year to come

Dear SJEDS Families,
I’m excited to share some updates about our amazing school and all we’ve accomplished this past year. Under Dr Castleman’s incredible leadership, the faculty and staff have been revamping our curriculum This multi-year project includes changes in math, language arts, global and cultural studies, and spiritual growth Our new math curriculum, which rolled out last year, has been a huge success with lots of positive feedback from students, parents, and teachers.
Our mission–to inspire a passion for learning, a life of integrity, and a heart for Christian service–is stronger than ever We’re committed to giving our students a well-rounded education that prepares them for both academic success and meaningful lives grounded in Christian values SJEDS continues to grow, and we are committed to recognizing the common threads that bind us while celebrating the unique qualities of each member. This dedication is crucial in nurturing the strong relationships that make SJEDS special.
Over the school year, we also saw the successful introduction of updated campus security, including having a police officer on campus We’re grateful for the family donations that made this possible, ensuring a safe and secure environment for our school community
SJEDS hosted an incredibly successful gala, celebrating our community in a wonderful evening that brought together parents, faculty, staff, and church members. The event not only provided memorable entertainment and fellowship but also raised significant funds to benefit our students and programs Thank you to everyone who attended and contributed to making this event a success We are particularly excited about the gym renovations, made possible by your generous donations at the gala fundraiser Contributions from parents, faculty, staff, trustees, and our church family have been instrumental Furthermore, we are thrilled to announce that thanks to Saunders and Kristie Bliss, we were awarded a grant from the Bryan Family Advisors of the Henry and Lucy Gooding Fund, which helped fulfill our renovation dreams.
We are now ready to celebrate a significant milestone–our 75th anniversary We look forward to an exciting year filled with opportunities for our community to come together and celebrate this remarkable achievement
t survey in June. Your feedback was invaluable and plays a our school. We are grateful for your continued support of eering or donations, is deeply appreciated and celebrated
SJEDS is grateful for a board that embodies the mission, vision, and values of the school

Dear SJEDS Families,
In looking back over the past school year, I am very grateful for the incredible experience enjoyed by our students, parents, and faculty! Our school had so many wonderful events, all of which were made possible by our fabulous volunteers. Each of our volunteers helped make every event such a great success From the many PA sponsored events, to teacher appreciation activities, and various fundraising efforts, we could not have accomplished so much without your help!
I would like to express my sincere appreciation to all of you for your support, whether it was volunteering time, making contributions, or pitching in to help our students in the classroom These selfless efforts helped to make it one of the most memorable school years for our students and teachers
The sense of family within our school community has remained strong, and it is this sense of fellowship that is one of the many things that makes our school so special. The Fall Festival epitomized this wonderful year as our volunteers, families, students, and faculty gathered to work and play together
As we move forward into the new school year, I am so grateful to all of our volunteers and faculty that make the learning experience at SJEDS so exceptional I also want to give my most sincere thanks to the Parent Association Board for all of their hard work over the past year. I am honored to have been able to serve as PA President, and I look forward to seeing the continued growth of our students, families, and school

On Saturday, March 2, 2024, over 150 parents, alumni, and friends of San Jose Episcopal Day School gathered for a memorable evening at the “Hats Off to San Jose” celebration and joyous Gala & Fundraiser The event proved to be a significant success as a record-breaking $110,000 was raised to benefit the school through a combination of live and silent auctions and a paddle raise A portion of the proceeds generated from the event was allocated towards renovating the gymnasium space, which serves both the school and San Jose Episcopal Church
The attendees embraced the festive spirit by donning their favorite hats, showcasing a diverse array including fedoras, fascinators, and baseball caps. Guests also had the opportunity to take home personalized hats adorned with creative designs, adding to the evening’s charm and memorability.
Plans are already underway for next year’s event, set for March 1, 2025, which will commemorate the school’s 75th anniversary As anticipation builds, SJEDS looks forward to continuing its tradition of fostering community spirit and supporting educational excellence.
