y friend from Colorado constantly asks me how I stand the heat here in Arizona. As he’s never even visited my favorite state, I imagine he envisions dry, desolate desert roads with tumbleweeds at every intersection. My response: the mountains, the desert scenery, and the nine months of pure weather perfection. You’ve already heard my love confession for desert wilderness, so I’ll spare you. But, in honor of the blistering heat, lets reminisce on those blissful months from October to June. Think back… to a time when Christmas Eve brunch is served on the patio and the kids aren’t forced to compromise their cute Halloween costumes with extra layers because of the cold. I can stand every day of excruciating heat by remembering that while the rest of the country is shoveling snow, I will be toting a light sweater.

“Time is very slow for those who wait Very fast for those who are scared Very long for those who lament Very short for those who celebrate but for those who love, time is eternal.” -William Shakespeare

I know it’s difficult sometimes with the kids out of school and the temperatures registering too hot even for the swimming pool. So, in honor of your sanity, we’ve compiled a Summer Survival Guide, to help you do just that, survive! As we compiled this list, I realized, summer’s not too restrictive after all. We are blessed to live in a growing, bustling city with many offerings. Scroll through our guide to find ways to explore the great indoors, camps for the kids, family activities, and exercise outlets when your outdoor running routine is on the back burner. In addition, we’ve included some great weekend getaways that are a short drive, but offer drops in temperature and a great adventure. I have faith that you will survive this summer in stride, my friends. In this month’s food feature, we covered my new favorite restaurant, The Perch, in Downtown Chandler. After seeing it in the construction stage, I was blown away by the amazing atmosphere created. This place is great! Enjoy the rooftop bar on a summer night with modern couches, craft beers and the best Moscow Mule on this side of town! The food is also as creative and amazing as the overall concept. Look to our food section to learn more about the exotic birds and tasty eats that inhabit this spot.

Enjoy that dry heat!
