Local Resident Creates Product to Help Combat Anxiety When Carlsbad resident Jeff Holland lost a family member to suicide last year, he was inspired to create My Coping Cards, a deck of 72 cards that contain positive affirmations, motivational sayings and empowering activities to help combat anxiety, stress and negative self-talk. As part of our collaboration with the Binford I Can, Too! Center, Emily Dolton, resource specialist for our nonprofit Special Needs Resource Foundation of San Diego, recently gave a presentation to members of the Serra Cooperative Library System about inclusive literacy and spaces for people with disabilities. The objective was to inform librarians what books speak to kids with disabilities, how libraries around the world are meeting the needs of the disabled population through programming and spatial concepts, and how local librarians can implement some of the ideas.
