“usingthelanguageof mypictures,tomake theaudiencehearthe songofmyheart”
Q: Quite a lot of your works are dedicated to San Antonio. Could you tell us, what inspires your creativityinthiscity?Howhaslivingandworkinghereinfluencedyourcreativeprocess?
A: When I moved to San Antonio four years ago, I fell in love with the city, its bright sunny colors, its multinational culture, the variety of flavors of its paints, its foods, its music, and its mixture of lifestyles I travel around the city, enjoy its picturesque landscapes, its cultural legacy, its flamboyant everyday life, and talk to its people. I shoot photos of the spots that impress me. And later, in the loneliness of my studio, I try, using the language of my pictures, to make the audience hear the song of my heart, which responds to everything I have seen in this wonderful city
Q: Your vivid imagination effortlessly breathes life into scenes, birthing sketches and paintings with remarkable ease and speed. Could you share any details of your creation processwithus?
A: As for sketches, they are usually easier to create , deriving from inspiration On the other hand, paintings made from pictures require more time and effort. I remember this quote by Thomas Alva Edison that once said creativity contains two percent of inspiration and ninetyeight percent of effort. When drawing a sketch, I am actually making a plan of the future picture; and plans are known to change in the process of work. Correspondingly, there is always a great number of remakes each time when I am not satisfied. People call this “throes of creation”; and it happens to me every time, when I suddenly feel that a picture lacks some subtle stroke or intricate half tone to make the song of my heart heard by those who are going to see the product of my creation It is not easy to find the desired stroke or half tone. Thus, it is impossible to disagree with Chekhov that talent is hard labor.
Q: Many artists find inspiration in unexpected places. Can you share a story about a seemingly mundaneoreverydayexperiencethatsparkedaremarkableartisticidea?
A: Well, each spot I dedicated my creative work has attracted my attention in its particular way. For instance, the Mission of San Antonio. When I saw that place, it reminded me of the stories about the cruel Spanish conquistadors Bringing cruel catholic monks with them that enforced Native Americans change their belief and become Christians, leading to multiple sufferings and deaths. That is why on my picture the Mission looks somewhat gloomy and desolate.

“Santiago and I wanted to extend our thanks and appreciation to the store and to Boris for the wonderful art piece calledAscending!
Thisisourfirstoriginalartpiecethatwe purchasedinourfirsthome.Wearestill inaweandareabsolutelyenamored.”
I've looked for galleries locally in San Antonio and came across San Antonio Artists Collective (SAAC). Initially my husband and I thought it was simply a showcase, but the friendly staff explained that these are all local artists selling their art work What I love about SAAC are the diverse styles, original one of a kind pieces, and the community of local artists who can even be commissioned to create a custom piece.
Art is so personable and a medium to express our personalities. After visiting SAAC for the first time, I promised myself that when I bought my first home I would also buy an art piece to go with it as a celebration What drew me and my husband to the piece called Ascending by Boris Levitsky was how simple can be so impactful and that it felt like a reflection of our own personal rise to realizing our dreams and creating a lifestyle beyond what we imagined we could have in our childhoods.
We are absolutely enamored to have Ascending on our wall and look forward to continuing to build our unique collection.“
