องค์การบริหารส่วนจังหวัดสมุทรปราการ เราก�ำลังจะมีสงิ่ ใหม่ มุมมองใหม่ ทีเ่ กิดขึน้ ภายในจังหวัดสมุทรปราการ ของเรา มุมมองใหม่อันกว้างใหญ่ไพศาลที่เราอยากเชิญชวนทุกคนขึ้นไป ร่ ว มชมความงาม ความหลากหลายทางสถาปั ต ยกรรมและผั ง เมื อ ง ที่มีทั้งตึกรามบ้านช่อง วัดวาอาราม พื้นที่สีเขียวชอุ่มที่มีสายน�้ำเจ้าพระยา พาดผ่าน และวิถีชีวิตอันสงบงาม ซึ่งก็คือ เมืองสมุทรปราการที่เราอาศัย อยู่ร่วมกันนั่นเอง “อุทยานการเรียนรู้และหอชมเมืองสมุทรปราการ” ถือเป็นการ ปรับเปลีย่ นปราการเก่าส�ำหรับจองจ�ำนักโทษในอดีต สูก่ ารเป็นแลนด์มาร์ก แห่งใหม่ของจังหวัดสมุทรปราการ ที่มีไฮไลต์อยู่ที่จุดชมวิว ๓๖๐ องศา ที่เราจะได้เห็นวิวทิวทัศน์ ความเป็นไป และวิถีชีวิตของชาวสมุทรปราการ ได้ อ ย่ า งชั ด เจน รวมทั้ ง เรื่ อ งราวของเมื อ งผ่ า นพิ พิ ธ ภั ณ ฑ์ ภ ายใน อุทยานการเรียนรู้และหอชมเมืองสมุทรปราการ ระหว่างรอร่วมชม ภาพใหญ่และใหม่เอี่ยมในมุมสูงของเมืองสมุทรปราการบน “อุทยาน การเรี ย นรู ้ แ ละหอชมเมื อ งสมุ ท รปราการ” ในอี ก ไม่ น าน เราไปท� ำ ความรู้จักหอชมเมืองกันให้มากขึ้นอีกนิด นอกจากมุมมองใหม่ๆ แล้วที่สมุทรปราการยังมีวิธีคิดใหม่ๆ ซึ่งเป็น พระอัจฉริยภาพของพระบาทสมเด็จพระปรมินทรมหาภูมิพลอดุลยเดช บรมนาถบพิตร นั่นก็คือ สะพานน�้ำยกระดับ โครงการระบายน�้ำบริเวณ สนามบินสุวรรณภูมิ ซึ่งเป็นสะพานระบายน�้ำแห่งแรกของประเทศไทย สิ่งก่อสร้างที่นอกจากจะสร้างจากแนวคิดที่น่าทึ่งแล้ว ยังเป็นประโยชน์ ต่อสาธารณะในหลากหลายมิติอีกด้วย แวะไปชมภาพแห่งความน่าทึ่ง และวิถีชีวิตที่ปรับเปลี่ยนไปอย่างมีชีวิตชีวาพร้อมๆ กัน เช่นเคย เมืองสมุทรปราการของเราก็ยังคงเป็นที่กิน เที่ยว ช้อป ในดวงใจของนักท่องเที่ยวมากมาย ร่วมกันค้นหาของดีที่ซุกซ่อนอยู่ใน เมืองน่ารักแห่งนี้ รวมทั้งพักผ่อนในบรรยากาศเก่าๆ อันอบอุ่น และ เที่ ย วชมบรรยากาศใหม่ ๆ ที่ จ ะสร้ า งแรงบั น ดาลใจและพลั ง ดี ๆ ครบทุกรสชาติและอารมณ์ในเมืองเล็กๆ ที่น่ารักแห่งนี้ มาร่วมเที่ยวชมศิลปวัฒนธรรม ความเป็นอยู่แบบชาวสมุทรปราการ ที่ จ ะสร้ า งความสุ ข และอบอุ ่ น ใจแก่ ผู ้ ม าเยื อ นได้ เ สมอ แล้ ว คุ ณ จะ ตกหลุมรักสมุทรปราการ

New enriching experiences are being crafted in our Samutprakarn province. Thus, we would like to invite you to admire the mixture of architectural designs and the layout of the city that encompasses houses, temples, green areas with Chaophraya River running across and the peaceful lifestyle of the locals in Samutprakan.

“Samutprakan Learning Park and City Tower” is a transformation from an ancient fortress that used to imprison inmates in the past to a new landmark of Samutprakan. The highlight is the 360 degrees observation deck that displays the city’s landscape and the lifestyle of the locals. Moreover, the observation tower also houses a museum area that displays a collection of stories from the past. While we wait to bear witness the grand imagery of the city from Samutprakan Learning Park and City Tower, let us get more acquainted with the place.

Apart from the new observation tower that allows visitors to experience the city from a different view, Samutprakan is also also home to a novel thinking that was initiated by the King Rama IX – the Aqueduct for irrigation close to Suvarnabhumi Airport, which is Thailand’s first aqueduct. Other than the astonishing idea behind it, the public also benefits from the aqueduct in various ways.

Let’s take a look at the lively images of the amazing construction and the changing lifestyle of the locals together.

The highlight is the 360 degree observation deck that is bound to make visitors fall in love with Samutprakan more and more.

Once you get acquainted with the new perspective on Samutprakan, don’t forget to observe a novel thinking, the Aqueduct irrigation project close to Suvarnabhumi Airport, which is Thailand’s first aqueduct. Witness the water course that flows over the road and into the sea.

สถานีรถไฟฟ้าบีทีเอส (E15)

“ส�ำโรง” เป็นต�ำบลที่มเี ขตติดต่อกับถนนสุขมุ วิททีเ่ ป็นเส้นทางจราจร หลักเข้าสู่เมืองกรุงเทพฯ ซึ่งจะพบปัญหาของคนท�ำงานส่วนใหญ่อยู่ที่ การจราจรติดขัด โดยเฉพาะเส้นหลักอย่างสุขุมวิท แยกปู่เจ้าสมิงพราย และแยกเทพารั ก ษ์ สถานี ร ถไฟฟ้ า ส� ำ โรงจึ ง เป็ น ทางออกที่ ดี ใ นการ แก้ปัญหาจราจรและยังเป็นการขนส่งคนเข้าและออกจากเมืองได้อย่าง มีประสิทธิภาพอีกด้วย สถานีส�ำโรงเป็นสถานีปลายทางของรถไฟฟ้าบีทีเอสสายสุขุมวิท ซึ่งจะมี สถานีปลายทางอยู่ ๒ สถานี คือ แบริง่ และส�ำโรง สามารถสังเกตจากด้านหน้า และด้ า นข้ า งของขบวนรถไฟฟ้ า ได้ ว ่ า ปลายทางสถานี เ ป็ น สถานี แ บริ่ ง หรือสถานีส�ำโรง บริเวณที่ตั้งของสถานีส�ำโรงนับว่าเป็นจุดเชื่อมต่อที่ส�ำคัญของกรุงเทพฯ กั บ จั ง หวั ด สมุ ท รปราการ ท� ำ ให้ ส ามารถสั ญ จรไปได้ ห ลายพื้ น ที่ ของสมุทรปราการตามเส้นทางเข้า - ออกของสถานีทั้งหมด ๖ ทางออก ทางออกที่ ๑ เป็นทางเดิน Sky Walk ข้ามคลองส�ำโรง เชื่อมต่อกับ แหล่งช้อปปิ้งศูนย์การค้าอิมพีเรียลเวิลด์ ส�ำโรง ในบริเวณหน้าศูนย์การค้า มีรถตู้ รถสองแถว และป้ายรถเมล์คอยให้บริการ ข้างๆ เป็นตลาดสด ส�ำโรงเซ็นเตอร์และต่อด้วยตลาดใหม่ส�ำโรงขนานกันไปกับตัวศูนย์การค้า ด้านหลังตลาดและศูนย์การค้าเป็นที่ตั้งของโรงพยาบาลส�ำโรงการแพทย์ และศาลเจ้าพ่อทัพ ศาลจีนเก่าแก่ และที่จอดรถสองแถวไปยังท่าเรือเภตรา และแพข้ามฟากไปตลาดพระประแดง ทางออกที่ ๒ เป็นที่ตั้งที่ท�ำการไปรษณีย์ส�ำโรง อยู่ข้างคลองส�ำโรง ซึง่ อยูต่ รงข้ามกับทางออกที่ ๓ และ ๖ ระหว่างทางออกทัง้ คูม่ สี ถานีตำ� รวจภูธร ส� ำ โรงเหนื อ คั่ น กลาง ส� ำ หรั บ ผู ้ ที่ เ ดิ น ทางมาจากเทพารั ก ษ์ จ ะใช้ บ ริ เวณ ทางออกนี้ได้

ทางออกที่ ๔ และทางออกที่ ๕ เป็นส่วนเชื่อมต่อ สถานีใหม่ที่ท�ำการเปิดระหว่างปลายปี ๒๕๖๐ และ ปี ๒๕๖๑ ได้แก่ เส้นทางจากสถานีส�ำโรงไปถึงเคหะฯ นอกจากจะเป็นสถานีรถไฟฟ้าแห่งแรกที่เชื่อมโยง การเดินทางระหว่างจังหวัดสมุทรปราการกับกรุงเทพฯ แล้ว ในปี ๒๕๖๑ เส้นทางรถไฟฟ้าใหม่อีก ๘ สถานี ได้แก่ สถานีปเู่ จ้าสมิงพราย สถานีเอราวัณ สถานีโรงเรียนนายเรือ สถานีศาลากลาง สถานีศรีนครินทร์ สถานีแพรกษา สถานี สายลวด และสถานีเคหะฯ จะเป็นการเปิดเส้นทางการ ท่องเที่ยวสู่จังหวัดสมุทรปราการอย่างสมบูรณ์ เมื่อถึงวันนั้น การเดินทางสู่จังหวัดสมุทรปราการ ก็จะยิ่งสะดวกสบายขึ้น และแน่นอนว่าจะน�ำพาผู้คน จ�ำนวนมากทีย่ งั ไม่เคยรูจ้ กั หรือเดินทางมา ให้เข้ามาสัมผัส จังหวัดที่อยู่ใกล้เคียงกรุงเทพฯ แห่งนี้ว่า สมุทรปราการ มีดีกว่าที่ใครหลายคนคาดคิด!

amrong Sub-District is connected to Sukhumvit Road which is the main road that leads us to Bangkok inner suburbs. Most workers in Bangkok will find the traffic as their major problem, especially ones who are working nearby Sukhumvit Road, Pu Chao Saming Phrai intersection and Thepharak intersection.

BTS Sky train has helped minimize traffic in the city and it is also an effective transportation system for the public to travel in and out of the city.

Additionally, Samrong is one of BTS Sky train’s last station for Sukhumvit line. The other one is Bearing station.

To find out whether Bearing or Samrong is the last station, observe the front or the back of the train.

The location of Samrong station is considered to be one of the most important access point of Bangkok and Samutprakan. By having 6 different exits, it allows people to travel to many parts of Samutprakan easily.

Exit 1 is a sky walk which permits

people to walk across Samrong canal and it also connects to Imperial Samrong shopping mall. O ther transportation services such as vans, mini bus and bus stop are available in front of the shopping mall. Next to the mall is a market called “Samrong Center”. Further down is another market and at the back of these markets and shopping mall situates Samrong General Hospital, Thap shrine, Traditional Chinese Shrine and parking area for the mini vans which takes people to Petra pier and a Ferry that transport people to Phra Phadaeng market.

Exit 2 takes you to Samrong Post Office and its located right beside Samrong Canal. This is directly opposite to exit 3 and 6. Furthermore, Samrong Police Station is Between these 2 exits. For those who are traveling from Thepharak, it is recommended to utilize exit 3 and 6.

Exit 4 and Exit 5 is not yet available.

However, is it supposed to connect the public to a new station that will be ready to operate in late 2017 or 2018. The

new route will transport people from Samrong Station to National Housing Authority.

The Bangkok - Samutprakan sky train route will be activated by 2018 and it is the first route that connects the 2 provinces. Apart from that, there are 8 new stations that is being built.

The following is Pu Chao Saming Phrai station, Erawan Museum station, Royal Thai Navy Academy station, Pak Nam station, Srinagarindra station, Phraeksa station, Sai Luad station and National Housing Authority station.

The existence of these stations will definitely bring convenience to those who wish to travel around Sumutprakan.

Once the construction process is finished, getting to Samutprakan will be much more convenient.

Certainly, this will attract new tourists who have never been in the area to experience Samutprakan like they never expected!

The following fortresses are Pra Khon Chai fortress, Narai Prap Suek fortress, Prakan fortress, Gai Ya Sit fortress, Phi Suea Samut fortress, Pom Phet fortress, Tri Phet fortress, Kong Ka Pan fortress, Sua Son Leb fortress and Phra Chula Chom Klao fortress. However, there are only 2 fortresses left for us to see today. These are Phra Chula Chom Klao fortress and Phi Suea Samut fortress

พระประแดง เป็นเมืองหน้าด่าน สมัยขอม (พ.ศ. ๑๔๐๐) ค�ำว่า ประแดง หรือ บาแดง แปลว่า คนน�ำสาร ฉะนัน้ หากมีเหตุการณ์ อะไรเกิดขึ้น เมืองหน้าด่านจะต้อ งรีบแจ้งข่าวสารไปให้เมืองหลวง (ละโว้) ทราบให้เร็วทีส่ ดุ มีความเชือ่ ว่า เมืองปากน�ำ้ สมุทรปราการก็เป็น ส่วนหนึง่ ของพระประแดงด้วย In year 858 or during Khmer period, “Phra Phradaeng” used to be a frontier. The word Pradaeng or Badaeng means “messenger ”. So, if there was problem, the frontier had to report the capital city (Lavo) as soon as possible. It was also believed that Pak Nam City in Samutprakan Province is a part of Phra Phradaeng district.

The word Chalong from “Bang Chalong” was mispronounced from the word “Jun-long” which means “carrying” in Khmer. In this case, it is suggested that it may have come from people’s behavior of carrying hand nets to scoop fishes back in the days.

Similarly, in dry season, boats would be carried out of the river and put away. “Bang Chalong” is a Sub-District with up to 24 canals.

Most of the locals are farmers therefore, they produce great crops.

สถานตากอากาศบางปู หรืออีกชื่อหนึ่งคือ กองสถานพักผ่อน กรมพลาธิการทหารบก เกิดขึ้นเมื่อ จอมพล ป.พิบูลสงคราม นายก รัฐมนตรีในขณะนั้น ได้เดินทางไปราชการ ที่จังหวัดชลบุรี และเห็นพื้นที่นี้ระหว่างทาง เห็นว่าเหมาะสมจะท�ำเป็นที่พักผ่อนหย่อน ใจ และตากอากาศ เนื่องจากมีบรรยากาศ ดี และไม่ห่างพระนครมากนัก จึงได้ให้จัดซื้อ ที่นี้ไว้เป็นจ�ำนวน ๔๖๓-๓-๓๗ ไร่ เพื่อจัดท�ำ เป็นทีพ่ กั ผ่อนหย่อนใจริมทะเล, ร้านค้าบริการ อาหารและเครื่องดื่ม, ที่พักบังกะโล ตั้งชื่อว่า “สถานตากอากาศชายทะเลบางปู” อาคาร สถานที่ ที่ ส ร้ า งในอดี ต นั้ น มี เ พี ย งบั ง กะโล ที่พัก สะพานสุขตา ศาลาสุขใจ ซึ่งยื่นออกไป ในทะเลถึง ๕๐๐ เมตร

Bang Pu Recreation Center was also known as the leisure division of the Army Quartermaster Department. It was built by the Former Prime Minister of Thailand, Field Marshal Plaek Phibunsongkhram. While travelling to Chonburi, he discovered this piece of land and thought that it would be suitable to turn it into arecreation center. It is not too far nor too close to the capital city, therefore, he decided to purchase the 742,148 square meter land. Later on, he constructed a relaxation destination by the sea, a convenience store, bungalows and named the site “Bang Pu Recreation Center. However, in the past, the recreation center was only comprised of bungalows, Sala Sukjai and Sukta bridge which is approximately 500 meters long.

From a wild mangrove forest to a cemetery where Thai-Chinese locals are buried, Tai Ban is somewhat a mysterious area where a few has ventured across. It wasn’t until “Samutprakan Crocodile Farm and Zoo” was built on the area. This complex is known as the world’s largest crocodile farm and has since created a name for Tai Ban Road among tourists.

As Samutprakan Municipality and the Provincial Administrative Office (PAO) realize that Tai Ban Road has the potential to become the trade center and a tourist destination, a development project is launched under the name “Public Service Development under the collaboration between local administrative office and community development authorities” or commonly known as Samutprakan tourism marketing project. The project will be developed on A 10-acre property will be developed into a central market for all kinds of products including local products from fishery and agriculture, offering a complete retail and wholesale services. Moreover, there is a designated accommodation area for tourists as well.

A 40-acre piece of land next to Tai Ban Road will be developed into a public space with a public park, a hospital, an international school and a large green area that is bound to be another lung for Samutprakan in the near future.

“เมืองปากน�ำ้ ” เป็นอีกชือ่ เรียกหนึง่ ของจังหวัดสมุทรปราการ จากบันทึก ประวัตศิ าสตร์ทำ� ให้ทราบว่าตัง้ แต่สมัย ยุคขอมเรืองอ�ำนาจ สมุทรปราการก็เป็น เมืองหน้าด่านแล้ว ด้วยความที่เมือง ตัง้ อยูบ่ ริเวณปากแม่นำ�้ เป็นทัง้ เส้นทาง การขนส่ง การค้าขาย และการศึกสงคราม สมุทรปราการจึงมีความส�ำคัญมาแต่ ครั้งอดีต ที่ ตั้ ง ของ “หอชมเมื อ ง” แต่ เ ดิ ม เป็น “ตะรางเก่า” เมื่อครั้งอยู่ภายใต้ การปกครองของเจ้าเมืองสมุทรปราการ ความที่ มี พื้ น ที่ อ ยู ่ ใ กล้ กั บ สถานี ร ถไฟ ปากน�้ำ การเดินทางขนส่งมาพร้อมกับ ชาวต่ า งชาติ แ ละชาวจี น ที่ ลั ก ลอบ สูบฝิ่น ฉกชิงวิ่งราว ลักเล็กขโมยน้อย นั ก โทษที่ เ พิ่ ม มากขึ้ น ท� ำ ให้ ใ ต้ ถุ น บ้ า น ของเจ้ า เมื อ งมี พื้ น ที่ คุ ม ขั ง นั ก โทษ ไม่ พ อ จึ ง ได้ แ ยกพื้ น ที่ ส� ำ หรั บ คุ ม ขั ง นั ก โทษออกมาจากตัวบ้าน ก่อสร้าง เป็ น ตะรางคุ ม ขั ง นั ก โทษ ต่ อ มาในปี พ.ศ. ๒๔๘๐ ได้เปลี่ยนมาเป็น “เรือนจ�ำ สมุทรปราการ” ภายใต้สงั กัดกรมราชทัณฑ์ พืน้ ทีจ่ งึ ขยายใหญ่ขนึ้ เพือ่ ก่อสร้างก�ำแพง สูง ๘ เมตร รายล้อมด้วยป้อมรักษาการณ์ ทั้ ง ๗ ป้ อ ม ลั ก ษณะการสร้ า งแบบ ก่ออิฐถือปูน “Pak Nam City” is another name for Samutprakan. From historical records, it was said that Samutprakan was the main outpost during the Khmer’s reign. Locating at the river mouth, Samutprakan has been the main logistics route, trade center and battle front since the early days.

The Observation Tower was once on a prison cell area when the former governor of Samutprakan lived on the site.

Standing close to the railway station, this saw arrival of foreign and Chinese smugglers as well as thieves. The increasing number of prisoners occupying the area under the governor’s manor led to the introduction of a designated area for prisoners that was separated from the manor. This was later changed to Samutprakan Central Prison under the department of corrections. Expansion took place which saw an erection of 8-meter high walls equipped with 7 towers mold with bricks and concrete.

ปี พ.ศ. ๒๕๔๐ การระบาดของยาเสพติด หนักขึน้ ส่งผลให้นกั โทษมีจำ� นวนเพิม่ ขึน้ จากเดิม ท�ำให้พื้นที่ของเรือนจ�ำไม่สามารถรองรับนักโทษ ได้เพียงพอ อีกทั้งรอบด้านของเรือนจ�ำก็เป็น ที่ พั ก อาศั ย ของชาวบ้ า น กรมราชทั ณ ฑ์ จึ ง มี นโยบายย้ายเรือนจ�ำสมุทรปราการไปยังสถานทีใ่ หม่ จากนั้นพื้นที่บริเวณเรือนจ�ำเก่าที่เคยเป็นเหมือน “ปราการ” จองจ�ำนักโทษในอดีต ก็ได้กลายเป็น พืน้ ทีว่ า่ ง และในทีส่ ดุ ได้ถกู น�ำมาใช้ประโยชน์โดย เป็นที่ตั้งของอุทยานการเรียนรู้และหอชมเมือง สมุทรปราการในปัจจุบัน “หอชมเมื อ ง” ตั้ ง อยู ่ ต รงเรื อ นจ� ำ เก่ า ปากน�้ ำ บริ เ วณด้ า นหลั ง ของสถานี ต� ำ รวจ สถานีต�ำรวจภูธรเมืองสมุทรปราการ สามารถ เดินทางโดยการเดินเท้าเข้ามาหรือขับรถยนต์ มาตรงถนนอมรเดชหรือซอยศรีสมุทร ๑ โดย ที่ จ อดรถอยู ่ บ ริ เวณทางด้ า นหน้ า ของทางเข้ า มี สั ญ ลั ก ษณ์ ข องอุ ท ยานการเรี ย นรู ้ เ ป็ น รูปลูกโลกและนกนางนวลหลายตัว สื่อให้เห็น ถึ ง ความอุ ด มสมบู ร ณ์ ข องพื้ น ที่ แ ละประตู สู ่ อ่าวไทยในปัจจุบัน ด้านหน้าและด้านในอุทยาน การเรียนรูฯ้ ยังมีปอ้ มรักษาการณ์เก่าครบทัง้ ๗ ป้อม โดยตัวป้อมยังคงรูปเดิม แต่สภาพภายในตัวฐาน บันไดทางขึ้นทรุดโทรมจนไม่สามารถขึ้นไปได้ In 1937, the drug epidemic increased the number of inmates considerably which exceeded the pr ison’s cell capacity. Surrounded by residential area, the department of corrections relocated the prison. T h e f o r m e r facility that was once a stronghold and abandoned eventually found its use as Samutprakan Observation Tower & Knowledge Park.

THE OBSERVATION TOWER now sits

on the former Pak Nam’s prison behind Mueang Samutprakan Provincial Police Station. Travel can be done by foot or by cars on Amondet Road or Soi Sri Samut 1 with parking available at the entrance.

Th e K n ow l e d g e Pa r k b a d g e w i t h a shape of a globe with seagulls is embedded at the entrance. This demonstrates the abundance within the area and symbolizes its status as the entrance to the Gulf of Thailand. Inside the park, the 7 prison towers remain unchanged on the outside. However, the broken stair treads prevent visitors from going up the tower.

Further inside, there stands a majestic tower that reaches 179.55 meters in height, equipped with glass windows and terrace areas with waist-high fences on certain floors allowing visitors to fully enjoy the view.There are terrace areas on certain floors with waist-high fences. Each floor houses various exhibitions ranging from the history of Samutprakan, Pak Nam’s old railroad, Local culture, Gulf of Thailand’s learning center and Conventional area.

The Tower houses six different exhibition zones: Zone 1 : "Pak Nam in the old days" narrates the history and the significant roles of Pak Nam from past to present.

Zone 2 : "Docking to the sea frontier" marks the city as one of the most prosperous trade district during Ayuddhaya period.

Zone 3 : "Fortress emerged" explains how this indistructible fortress of Ratanakosin was forged by the unity among people of diversed races.

Zone 4 : "Fortress of the Land" depicts how Siam's major turning point due to Franco-Siamese Crisis of 1893 led to a great country development and an equal status to other civilized countries.

Zone 5 : "Checking point for economic coordination" Thailand's major economic and industrial frontier town at the present.

Zone 6 : "Looking forward to the next" Be the driving force that prompt Samut Prakan to a stable future.

แต่หากมองจากมุมสูงเหนือระดับพื้นดิน ขึ้ น ไป จะเห็ น ว่ า สิ่ ง ที่ อ ยู ่ บ นสะพานแห่ ง นี้ คือมวลน�้ำที่ก�ำลังไหลขึ้นมาจากอีกฟากหนึ่ง ข้ามสะพานน�้ำลงไปสู่อีกฟากหนึ่ง เสมือน การยกคลองระบายน�้ำข้ามถนนนั่นเอง ใครที่ได้เห็นภาพสะพานระบายน�้ำแห่งนี้ น่าจะต้องรู้สึกคล้ายกันว่า เป็นสิ่งก่อสร้าง ที่ แ ตกต่ า งจากที่ เราเคยพบเห็ น โดยทั่ ว ไป และท�ำให้เกิดข้อสงสัยว่าท�ำไมจึงต้องสร้าง สะพานน�้ำข้ามถนนในลักษณะดังกล่าว ค� ำ ตอบก็ คื อ สะพานน�้ ำ แห่ ง นี้ ส ร้ า งขึ้ น ด้วยวัตถุประสงค์ส�ำคัญ คือการระบายน�้ำ ออกจากสนามบินสุวรรณภูมิ เพือ่ ป้องกันไม่ให้ เกิดน�ำ้ ท่วมในบริเวณสนามบินซึง่ เป็นประหนึง่ ประตูหน้าด่านของประเทศไทยที่เชื่อมต่อกับ นานาชาติ และพื้นที่โดยรอบก็เป็นชานเมือง ที่มีผู้อยู่อาศัยจ�ำนวนมาก ประกอบกั บ สภาพพื้ น ที่ เ ป็ น ที่ ลุ ่ ม ต�่ ำ เกิดสภาวะน�ำ้ ท่วมนองได้ง่ายเพราะเป็นพื้นที่ ที่ต�่ำกว่าพื้นที่อื่น ระดับพื้นดินเฉลี่ยต�่ำกว่า บริเวณอื่นในทุ่งราบเจ้าพระยาฝั่งตะวันออก ตอนล่าง แน่นอนว่าหากสนามบินสุวรรณภูมิ เปิดด�ำเนินการ ปัญหาก็จะทวีความรุนแรง มากยิ่ ง ขึ้ น และหากเกิ ด ความเสี ย หายขึ้ น จากเหตุน�้ำท่วม ย่อมต้องท�ำให้ประเทศชาติ สูญเสียผลประโยชน์อย่างใหญ่หลวง สะพานแห่งนีเ้ ป็นส่วนหนึง่ ของ “โครงการ ระบายน�ำ้ บริเวณสนามบินสุวรรณภูม”ิ ตัง้ อยูท่ ี่ ต�ำบลบางปลา อ�ำเภอบางพลี และต�ำบลบางปู อ�ำเภอเมืองสมุทรปราการ จังหวัดสมุทรปราการ เกิ ด ขึ้ น จากแนวพระราชด� ำ ริ ข องพระบาท สมเด็ จ พระปรมิ น ทรมหาภู มิ พ ลอดุ ล ยเดช บรมนาถบพิตร ทรงมีพระราชด�ำริกับนายก รั ฐ มนตรี ใ นขณะนั้ น ฐานะประธาน กปร. ณ วั ง ไกลกั ง วล อ� ำ เภอหั ว หิ น จั ง หวั ด ประจวบคีรีขันธ์ เมื่อวันที่ ๑ สิงหาคม พ.ศ. ๒๕๔๖ สรุปความว่า

While observing an image of this water bridge, viewers may sense that it is unalike from what they have seen in general. Yet, most of them may raise this question, “why was this bridge designed in this particular way?”.

Here is the answer, the purpose of building this bridge is to drain water from Suvarnabhumi airport to prevent flood in such significant zone. The airport is Thailand’s gateway which allows people to connect internationally and the surrounding area is a suburb with many residents. Therefore, the existence of this bridge is vital.

The property of Suvarnabhumi airport has low land conditions. The piece of land itself is lowest in the lower east side of the Chao Phraya Plateau. Besides, if Suvarnabhumi airport is operating while it floods, the issue will multiply. Surely this will affect the nation’s benefit in many ways.

This specific bridge is one of the “Suvarnabhumi Airport Drainage Project” located in Bang-Pla SubDistrict, Bang Phli District and Bang-Pu Sub-District, Mueang District, Samutprakan Province. Also, the project was initiated by King Bhumibol Adulyadej. On the 1st of August 2003, His majesty once said to the Prime Minister at that time who also happens to be the chairman of “The Office of the Royal Development Projects Board” at Klai Kangwon Palace, Huahin District, Prachuap Khiri Khan Province: “When dredging the canal, don’t assume that it should only be draining water in Suvarnabhumi area. Look at a bigger picture and consider dredging it into the perfect size so it will accommodate water in the surrounding area as well.”

เหตุทไี่ ด้มพี ระราชด�ำริให้แก้ปญ ั หาดังกล่าว เนื่ อ งจากทรงห่ ว งใยว่ า ปั ญ หาพื้ น ที่ ลุ ่ ม น�้ ำ เจ้าพระยาฝั่งตะวันออกตอนล่างเป็นพื้นที่ลุ่ม มีระดับพืน้ ดินต�ำ่ บางแห่งมีลกั ษณะพืน้ ทีเ่ ป็น แอ่งท้องกระทะ สนามบินสุวรรณภูมิตั้งอยู่ บริเวณทางน�้ำหลาก และการสร้างสนามบิน ท�ำให้สูญเสียพื้นที่รองรับน�้ำกว่า ๒๐,๐๐๐ ไร่ อี ก ทั้ ง ยั ง มี ก ารพั ฒ นาพื้ น ที่ โ ดยรอบอย่ า ง รวดเร็วและไม่เป็นไปตามผังเมือง และหาก เกิ ด น�้ ำ ท่ ว มในบริเวณนี้ก็จะส่งผลต่อเนื่อง ต่อพืน้ ทีช่ นั้ กลางและชัน้ ในของกรุงเทพมหานคร ด้วยสายพระเนตรอันยาวไกล ส่งผลให้ รัฐบาลมองเห็นความจ�ำเป็นที่จะต้องแก้ไข ปัญหาดังกล่าว โดยต่อมากรมชลประทาน ได้ ท� ำ การว่ า จ้ า งสถาบั น ที่ ป รึ ก ษา ได้ แ ก่ สถาบันเทคโนโลยีแห่งเอเชีย มหาวิทยาลัย เกษตรศาสตร์ และมหาวิทยาลัยธรรมศาสตร์ เพื่อด�ำเนินงานศึกษาส�ำรวจและออกแบบ เบื้ อ งต้ น จนกระทั่ ง ก่ อ สร้ า งแล้ ว เสร็ จ ใน พ.ศ. ๒๕๕๓ ใช้เวลาในการก่อสร้าง ๖ ปี The reason why His Majesty was eager to solve the problem was because he was worried about the low land conditions in the area of the lower east side of the Chao Phraya Plateau. Suvarnabhumi airport is situated in a flood zone and the airport construction resulted a loss of over 7,900 acres of water storage area. The fast development of the surrounding area plus the failure of the city plan can likely cause flood to this zone. Last of all, if it floods, the middle and inner suburbs of Bangkok will surely be affected.

His Majesty ’s vision give rise to the government to find a solution for this issue. Later on, the Royal Irrigation Department hired the following advisory institutes; Asian Institute of Technology, Kasetsart University and Thammasat University.

The purpose of hiring was to survey and design the water bridge. After 6 years of construction, the bridge was finally completed in 2010.

This U-shaped concrete bridge is reinforced with steel and the diameter is 25 meters. Both sides of the walls are 3.15 meters high and the bridge is approximately 6 meters above Sukhumvit Road. The whole bridge is controlled by the water bridge structure and wastewater structure which water is incurred from the pumping station.

Moreover, the water then flows through the sea canal, Sukhumvit Road and finally heads to the ocean.

On average, the flow rate is 100 cubic meters per second.

The Royal Irrigation Department provided infor mation below describing what the drainage canal is comprised of.

• Water bridge structure and U-shaped wastewater structure is 25 meters in diameter, 3.15 meters high and 5 meters above the sea canal and Sukhumvit Road.

• 6 car bridges, intake structure from Samrong canal, 22 drainage canal which is positioned on the side of flood gate.

• 1 pumping station that can drain water up to 100 cubic meters per second. This includes 4 feed water pumps which is controlled by computer.

• Electrical substation, remote control system, hydrological telemetry system and other components.

ในกรณี ที่ เ กิ ด น�้ ำ ท่ ว มขั ง ในสนามบิ น สุ ว รรณภู มิ คลองระบายน�้ ำ สายหลั ก จะ ท�ำหน้าที่ระบายน�้ำจากบริเวณรอบสนามบิน สุวรรณภูมิ แล้วเร่งระบายน�้ำจากคลองส�ำโรง แล้วสูบระบายออกสู่ทะเล การสูบน�้ำออกสู่ ทะเลโดยตรงนีท้ ำ� ให้สามารถลดปัญหาน�ำ้ ท่วม ได้อย่างมีประสิทธิภาพ ลดพื้นที่น�้ำท่วมลง ๑๔๐ ตารางกิโลเมตร และช่วยลดความเสียหาย จากปัญหาน�้ำท่วมขัง ปัญหาน�้ำหลากและ อุทกภัยที่เกิดขึ้นในพื้นที่จาก ๑๐ วัน เหลือ ๒ วัน โดยพิจารณาจากปริมาณน�้ำฝนสูงสุด ในรอบ ๒๕ ปี ทีเ่ คยเกิดขึน้ เมือ่ ปี พ.ศ. ๒๕๓๓ นอกจากจะช่ ว ยแก้ ป ั ญ หาน�้ ำ ท่ ว มแล้ ว สะพานน�้ ำ ยกระดั บ ยั ง ช่ ว ยลดปั ญ หาการ จราจร ท�ำให้สามารถติดตามสภาพน�้ำหลาก และการท�ำงานของเครือ่ งสูบน�ำ้ ในการบริหาร จั ด การน�้ ำ หลากทั้ ง ระบบลุ ่ มน�้ ำ เจ้ าพระยา ฝั่งตะวันออกตอนล่าง เป็นแหล่งกักเก็บน�้ำ ส�ำหรับท�ำการเกษตร สร้างอาชีพด้านการ ประมงบริ เ วณปลายน�้ ำ และช่ ว ยเสริ ม การพั ฒ นาแหล่ ง ท่ อ งเที่ ย วเชิ ง เกษตรและ ระบบนิเวศของจังหวัดสมุทรปราการอีกด้วย In the event of flooding in Suvarnabhumi airport, the drainage canal will drain water in the area. These waters will then flow through Samrong canal and eventually be released to the ocean.

Predictably, this system reduced the flood problem very effectively. Based on the incident of having the highest rainfall in 25 years in 1990, it reduced over 140 square kilometer of flood area and decreased the chance of facing immerse flood from 10 days to 2 days.

Apart from minimizing the chance of flooding, the water bridge also helps reduce traffic. It enables us to track the water conditions and pump operation in the lower east side of the Chao Phraya Plateau. It also performs as a water storage for agriculture, encourage fisheries career downstream and enhance the development of agricultural and ecological tourism in Samutprakan Province.

The temple which stands side-by-side with the city is a signature tourist spot that every visitor should pay a visit.

มุมมองวัดพิชัยสงครามจากยอดหอชมเมือง อารามแห่งนี้สร้างขึ้นในสมัยกรุงศรีอยุธยา ตอนปลาย เดิมมีชอื่ ว่า “วัดโพธิ”์ หรือ “วัดนอก” ครั้นถึงสมัยรัชกาลที่ 2 พระยาพิชัยสงคราม ได้มาสร้างป้อมปราการในเขตวัดไว้ป้องกัน ข้าศึก ได้แก่ ป้อมประโคนชัย ป้อมกายสิทธิ์ ป้อมนารายณ์ปราบศึก และป้อมปราการ ซึ่งในปัจจุบันได้ถูกรื้อถอนหมดแล้ว Pichai Songkram Temple view from the top of the observation tower.

This monastery was built during the late Krungsri Ayudhaya period and “Wat Poh” or “Wat Nok” was its original name.

During the Reign of King Rama II, Phraya Pichai Songkram has built several forts around the temple area including Prakonechai Fort, Kayasit Fort and Narai Prab Suek Fort. Inside the temple is a large bell shaped pagoda decorated with fine-looking Thai crockeries.

You will be greeted with a magnificent white pagoda once you exit the Observation Tower and walk around the back along Amondet Road that parallels the temple wall toward Prakhon Chai Road.

An entrance can be found nearby for visitors to enter and have a closer look.

สร้อยสังวาล เหล่าเทพพนมปูนปั้น และมีบัว กลุ่มปูนปั้นประดับรอบเจดีย์ ๓ ชั้น งดงาม สมกับเป็นปูชนียสถานส�ำคัญของเมืองปากน�ำ้ คู่กับพระอุโบสถหลังเก่าที่อยู่ถัดไป ซึ่งได้รับ การบูรณะให้มีความสมบูรณ์และงดงามมาก พร้ อ มกั บ ขึ้ น ทะเบี ย นเป็ น โบราณสถาน ของชาติ ส่วนพระอุโบสถทรงปราสาทจัตรุ มุข หลังใหญ่ท่ีมองเห็นชัดเจนจากหอชมเมืองนั้น สร้างขึ้นใหม่ในภายหลัง

The pagoda which dates back to Ay u t t h a y a E m p i r e r e s e m b l e s a reverse bell-shape and is decorated with five-colored porcelain pieces.

The monument is patterned with traditional ornaments; a three-level lotus pattern can be seen. Its beauty is worthy of the sheer faith and respect from believers as a scared monument of Samutprakan which stands alongside the ordination hall close by (Ubosot). The Ubosot was restored to its former glory with a designationof national heritage site. However, t h e fo u r- f a ce d Ubosot nearby that can be seen from the Observation Tower was built much later.

Situated near the Observation Tower, the Vihara of Phra Bhuddha Chinnarat Mongkolprakan is another spot to visit and pay homage to Phra Buddha Chinnarat, an identical style of buddha image with the one in Phra Sri Mahatat Temple, Phitsanulok province. Its interior wall is fully decorated with exquisite mural paintings. It opens every day during office hours and closes on weekends and public holidays.

After enjoying the pagoda and t h e u b o s o t o f Wa t P h i c h a i Songkhram Temple, we take off onto Prakhon Chai Road. Let us first get acquainted with this historic road. Prakhon Chai Road is one of the four main roads in Samutprakan.

Its name is in memory of a major fortress that was built during the reign of King Rama II. Construction of 4 major battle fortresses in Samutprakan took place and the project was completed in the era

of King Rama III. Each fort was given a name of Prakhon Chai Fort, Narai Prab Suek Fort, Prakan Fort and Kai Sit Fort. These were later demolished due to their ruins, leaving behind their names as the city main roads.

Prakhon Chai Road is a one-way path leading to Pak Nam Market.

It passes the City Pillar Shrine, which is another sacred ground everyone should visit for good fortune. The

architecture resembles a Chinese shrine, which is influenced by the Chinese settlers that came for trade in the past. They helped build the shrine by combining Chinese and Thai cultures. The city god inside the shrine resembles ancient Chinese nobility sitting on a throne. The city pillar is round edge and 3-meter high. The top of the pillar is bolted and carved with Thai blooming lotus patterns with a Chinese-style dragon climbing up the pillar.

You will pass a lineup of shop houses selling consumer goods and various food stalls offering a wide selection of deliciousness in the vibrant market environment.

Sri Samut Road, is bustling with cars heading out of Samutprakan on a one-way street. Turning right and walk along the crowded footpath, you will find Lim Dam Rong Restaurant, an original Thai dessert house. A grill stands in front of the restaurant to let passersby taste and buy Kanom Chak, a local specialty from Samutprakan made from nipa palm fruits, as a souvenir.

Other than Kanom Chak, Lim Dam Rong also offers toasted sticky rice with assorted fillings, mango & sticky rice and sweetened sticky rice with various toppings.

We later cross Sri Samut Road into Pak Nam Market to admire the riverside view from the pier with ferries crossing back and forth Phra Samut Chedi Pagoda – a landmark also visible from the Observation Tower. Pak Nam Market is an old market that offers a combination of fresh and processed food. Various types of seafood are the signature of the market that sits on the seaside city. The market also neighbors Petch Market and Bang Khong Market; visitors can browse and select a huge variety of ingredients from the 3 markets back home to cook a tasty meal for a comfortable price.

Across the road, there is a Narai Prab Suek Road leading away from the market toward a strange-looking architecture resembling a large chimney with opening at the top that stands in the middle of the roundabout. This is a monument built in memory of the Bangkok – Pak Nam railroad that was the first route linking Bangkok and Pak Nam during the reign of King Rama V. Pak Nam terminal station once stood where Pak Nam Market now thrives.

Traveling down the Sri Samut Road, you will pass the city hall and enter the Sukhumvit Road. Slightly down the right turn you will come back to the Samutprakan Observation Tower which marks the end of Samutprakan sight-seeing trip from the Observation Tower and walking tour.

DAENG MUSHROOM FARM CULTIVATING HAPPINESS AND FRIENDSHIP

เริม่ จากลองผิดลองถูก ผ่านอุปสรรคมากมาย จนมาถึงวันนี้ ฟาร์มเห็ดช่างแดงกลายเป็น ฟาร์มเห็ดครบวงจรแห่งเดียวของบางกะเจ้า เป็นหนึ่งในสถานที่ท่องเที่ยว และเป็นศูนย์ เรียนรู้ของชุมชน ที่นอกจากจะสร้างรายได้ ให้แก่ผู้คนแล้วยังมอบความสุขให้ผู้ที่มา เยี่ยมเยือนอีกด้วย

types of mushrooms which all began from passion” says Daeng’s son – Thom, Danupol Hormbanyen, who happily tells us the story of this farm.

When asked of the cultivating process, Thom gladly reveals us all the tricks that all that is needed is only a little amount of sawdust, gypsum, lime, salts, flour and food supplements mixing together in the right proportion into mushroom substrate which is later sterilized.

Sterilization duration starts from flaming up the gas already takes up to 2 hours for the temperature to reach 100 °C with further 4 hours at less heat before the substrate is removed from the autoclave for cooling. Afterwards, the spores are mixed into the substrate and left in the fruiting chamber between 30-45 days before the puffballs are ready to be sold to other farms or for fruiting.

The most challenging factor is Thailand’s hot weather. The mushrooms simply cannot adapt to the changing climate.

If there are 3 consecutive days of rain, the mushrooms will grow much faster so less watering is needed. If the moisture increases then they will rot. If the weather is too hot, then the mushrooms won’t grow or will grow a tiny amount and slowly die.

People who wish to start a mushroom farming business or to make some extra money should begin with marketable mushrooms such as oyster mushrooms or phoenix mushroom because there is no need for a wholesaler. However, a nursery is required to control the temperature.

The puffballs need constant upkeep. The fruiting will take place after 7 days if the temperature does not go over 28 °C and moisture content at 70-80%.

12 years ago when he collected spores for sale. However, he was not able to turn profits so he started studying more about fungus. Now, he is able to deliver mushrooms to other farms and across the country.

“We started from scratch. There was a lot of damage and no fruition. My father enjoys farming. He likes to grow strange vegetables. For mushrooms, he cultivates those that mostly grow in the ground such as golden oyster mushroom and pink ginkgo which aren’t usually farmed.

เมือ่ ถามถึงขัน้ ตอนการเพาะเห็ด คุณต้อม อธิบายแบบไม่กั๊กสูตรเลยสักนิดว่า เพียงแค่ มีขี้เลื่อย ร�ำ ยิปซัม ปูนขาว ดีเกลือ แป้ง อาหารเสริม แล้วน�ำมาคลุกเคล้าตามอัตราส่วน ท�ำเป็นก้อนแล้วก็ฆา่ เชือ้ เวลาการฆ่าเชือ้ นับจาก ทีจ่ ดุ แก๊ส กว่าจะขึน้ ถึง ๑๐๐ องศา จะใช้เวลา ประมาณ ๒ ชัว่ โมง แล้วหรีแ่ ก๊สรออีก ๔ ชัว่ โมง ถึงเอาก้อนเชื้อเห็ดออกจากเตา ทิ้งไว้ให้เย็น จากนั้ น เลื อ กเชื้ อ สายพั น ธุ ์ เ ห็ ด ที่ จ ะหยอด หยอดเสร็จเอาไปพักที่โรงเรือน ๓๐-๔๕ วัน ก้อนขาวก็พร้อมที่จะจ�ำหน่ายแก่ลูกฟาร์ม หรือพร้อมที่จะเปิดดอก แต่สงิ่ ทีย่ ากคือสภาพภูมอิ ากาศทีร่ อ้ นของ บ้านเรา เห็ดจะปรับตัวไม่ทนั ถ้าวันไหนฝนตก ๓ วันติด เห็ดจะออกเยอะมาก ก็ต้องรดน�้ำ น้อยลง เพราะถ้าความชื้นสูงมันก็กลายเป็น เชื้อรา ถ้าอากาศร้อนเห็ดก็ไม่ค่อยออกดอก หรือ ออกมาแล้ ว ดอกจะเล็ ก หรื อ เหี่ ย วแห้ ง แล้วฝ่อตาย

Thom doesn’t stop there when his farming business is a success. He also opens a vegetarian restaurant where all the dishes are made from mushrooms and assorted vegetables, no meats.

Even the drinks are extracted from the farm’s mushrooms. Snacks include candied mushrooms, mushroom jellies and mushroom crackers “The restaurant is doing really well. We only open on the weekend. At first there were only a few tables but the feedback has been surprising. This made me want to open a proper restaurant so I discussed with my mother and started off with a size of 6 sqm but later added 3 sqm to cater to สิงหาคม - กันยายน 2561

all the guests. If guests are in big groups, we would serve as if they are at a Chinese banquet. Sometimes reservations go up to over 100 guests and sometimes there are not enough mushroom products for sale. There are simply not enough mushrooms to be processed because the operation requires a large amount of mushrooms. We had to give priority to the farms so they wouldn’t lose their customers. Sometimes, if we fall short we would recommend other farms in the fungiculture network but if the faming customers are willing to wait for our plants then we are more than welcome. Apart from the restaurant, the Daeng Mushroom Farm also offers bike rental service which comes with a tour guide who also takes photographs on demand.

This extra service was Thom’s idea. He grew up in the area with friends who know various paths in Bang Kachao locality. They want the visitors to get to know the natural beauty of Bang Krachao as much as they can. Instead of cycling along the defined routes, Daeng Mushroom Farm guides would take the tourists off to the routes where they can indulge in the true nature.

A lot of people see opportunities for the mushroom farm to expand and generate more income. However, 32 year-old Thom tells us that he only wishes to live within his means and follows the King Rama IX’s economics of sufficiency principle.

“We don’t want anything that big. Just let the cousins come and lend a helping hand from time to time is enough. We farm on weekdays and stop to welcome the guests because there are a lot of tourists on weekends. We keep it in the family. I don’t personally think that if we expand then we will make more money.

Now I don’t have enough mushrooms to cultivate.

We are happy as we are because our happiness is not making a lot of money but feeling exhausted. We need balance in life. Living alongside plants and mushrooms the way King Rama IX suggested with some profits is enough” It is made clear that happiness in Daeng’s family comes from doing something out of passion. Apart from sustainable business, happiness from seeing smiles on the faces of visitors and forming friendships is yet another profit.

“You can see that everyone is happy here on the weekend. Customers who purchase puffballs are happy. As for the restaurant, many parents come up to me and say their children never eat vegetables; they don’t even want to try a mushroom but that changed when they tasted our fried mushrooms, then morning glory and beans. Nowadays, the kids regularly have vegetables with their meals. Little things like this make us smile. People who come here tend to chat to one another like family”

ไม่เสียค่าใช้จ่ายครับ แม้แต่สูตรท�ำแหนมเห็ด ในเฟซบุก๊ ผมก็บอกหมด เพราะเรามีผลิตภัณฑ์ แปรรูป เห็ดสามรส, วุ้นเห็ด, แหนมเห็ด, น�้ำพริกเห็ดด้วย ซึ่งจะมีกลุ่มที่สั่งซื้อเราจาก ทางไปรษณีย์และเฟซบุ๊กด้วย” เมื่อธุรกิจเพาะเห็ดอยู่ตัวและมั่นคงแล้ว คุ ณ ต้ อ มก็ ไ ม่ ห ยุ ด พั ฒ นาเพี ย งแค่ นั้ น ยั ง มี การต่ อ ยอดด้ ว ยการเปิ ด เป็ น ร้ า นอาหาร ที่ เ มนู ทั้ ง หมดไม่ มี เ นื้ อ สั ต ว์ มี แ ต่ เ มนู ผั ก และเมนู เ ห็ ด แม้ แ ต่ น�้ ำ ก็ เ อาเห็ ด มาสกั ด ขนมหวานก็มเี ห็ดเชือ่ ม วุน้ เห็ด ข้าวเกรียบเห็ด “ร้านอาหารน่าพอใจมาก เราจะเปิดแค่ วันเสาร์-อาทิตย์ จากมีไม่กโี่ ต๊ะ แล้วคนให้การ ตอบรับเยอะมาก มันบีบให้เราเริ่มอยากจะมี ร้านอาหาร ก็เลยคุยกับคุณแม่ ต่อยอดขึ้นมา ตอนแรกท�ำ ๖x๖ รองรับไม่ไหว ต้องต่อขึ้นมา อีกเกือบ ๓ เมตร ถ้าเข้ามาเป็นกรุ๊ปผมจะท�ำ เหมือนโต๊ะจีน บางครัง้ จองเข้ามาเป็นร้อยท่าน บางช่วงผลิตภัณฑ์แปรรูปก็ขาด ไม่พอขาย ดอกเห็ ด ไม่ พ อ เพราะการแปรรู ป แต่ ล ะ ครั้งต้องใช้ดอกเห็ดเยอะ ซึ่งเราต้องส่งก้อน เชื้อเห็ดให้ลูกฟาร์มก่อนเพื่อไม่ให้ลูกฟาร์ม เสียลูกค้า ซึ่งบางทีเราจะส่งต่อแนะน�ำให้ กลุม่ เพาะเห็ดทีเ่ ป็นพันธมิตรกัน แต่หากลูกค้า คนไหนยินดีที่จะรอเห็ดของเราก็โอเคครับ แต่เราก็ต้องแจ้งว่าอาจได้ช้าเป็นเดือนนะ”

นอกจากต่อยอดมีรา้ นอาหารแล้ว ฟาร์มเห็ด ช่างแดงยังมีบริการให้เช่าจักรยาน ซึ่งจะมีคน น�ำทางให้ ถ่ายรูปให้พร้อม การบริการเสริม ตรงนี้ เ กิ ด จากความคิ ด ของคุ ณ ต้ อ มที่ รู ้ จั ก เพื่ อ นที่ เ ติ บ โตและใช้ ชี วิ ต ที่ นี่ ม าตั้ ง แต่ เ ด็ ก เพือ่ นของคุณต้อมจะรูซ้ อยเล็กซอยใหญ่ พืน้ ที่ ของบางกะเจ้าทั้งหมด คุณต้อมและเพื่อนจึง อยากให้คนได้รู้จักพื้นที่ที่เป็นธรรมชาติของ บางกะเจ้าให้ได้มากที่สุด แทนที่นักท่องเที่ยว จะได้ปั่นแค่ที่เขามาร์กเอาไว้ แต่ไปกับคน น�ำทางของฟาร์มช่างแดงจะได้ไปในเส้นทาง ที่ได้สัมผัสความเป็นธรรมชาติอย่างแท้จริง หลายคนมองว่าธุรกิจฟาร์มเห็ดช่างแดง จะไปได้ไกลกว่านี้ มีโอกาสท�ำเงินได้มากกว่านี้ อีกหลายเท่า แต่คุณต้อม-ชายหนุ่มวัย ๓๒ ปี กลับบอกเราว่า ขอท�ำแค่ที่ไหว โดยยึดหลัก เศรษฐกิจพอเพียงของพ่อหลวง “เราไม่ได้ตอ้ งการท�ำใหญ่โตอะไรขนาดนัน้ ให้หลานๆ มาช่วย เราจะท�ำกันเอง วันธรรมดา ก็ทำ� ไป แต่วนั เสาร์-อาทิตย์เราหยุดท�ำ เรารับแขก เพราะที่นี่เป็นสถานที่ท่องเที่ยว นักท่องเที่ยว จะเข้ามาเยอะ ท�ำเสร็จก็ไปส่ง หยุดแค่ธุรกิจ ในครอบครัว เราไม่ได้คดิ ว่าถ้าเราท�ำมากกว่านี้ เราจะได้เงินมากกว่านี้ อย่างตอนนี้ก้อนเชื้อ เห็ดผมก็ผลิตไม่ทัน ก็ไม่ค่อยมีก้อนเชื้อเห็ด เรามี ค วามสุ ข กั บ แค่ นี้ พ อ ความสุ ข เรา AU GU ST - SEPT EMB ER 2018

I personally helped a group of mushroom farmers in Krabi.

They have no market for their mushrooms; they messaged me asking if I could give them some recipes so I sent over recipes for fried mushrooms, fermented mushrooms and mushroom jellies. They set up booths at food events and succeeded. The sent over some gilled mushrooms as a token of gratitude and we formed a good friendship. We never grew gilled mushrooms and I never tasted them before.

The merchants in Samutprakan selling fermented mushrooms salad came to me for recipes as well.

Other than this, another of Thom’s goal is to help complete his father’s wish to help strengthen the community of Bang Kachao.

อีกอย่างเห็ดแครงผมไม่เคยเพาะ ยังไม่เคยกิน ผมก็ได้กิน ที่เขาขายเห็ดแหนม แหนมคลุก กันในสมุทรปราการเขาก็มาถามผมนะ” นอกเหนือไปกว่านั้นการมีส่วนช่วยท�ำให้ ชุ ม ชนบางกะเจ้ า เข้ ม แข็ ง มากขึ้ น ก็ เ ป็ น อี ก วั ต ถุ ป ระสงค์ ห ลั ก ที่ คุ ณ ต้ อ มอยากต่ อ ยอด เจตนารมณ์นี้ของคุณพ่อให้ส�ำเร็จ “ฟาร์มเราจะมีนักท่องเที่ยวหลายชาติ มี ไ กด์ ฝ รั่ ง เข้ า มาทุ ก วั น วั น เสาร์ - อาทิ ต ย์ จะเยอะ เราไม่เก็บค่าอะไรทัง้ สิน้ ให้คนเข้ามาดู มาศึกษาฟรี เวลาคนเข้าโรงเห็ดจะมีคนคอย แนะน�ำตลอด บางคนก็บอกว่าท�ำไมไม่ท�ำ ป้ายติดไว้ว่าเห็ดนี้คืออะไร มีประโยชน์อะไร บ้าง ผมบอกว่าผมไม่ท�ำละครับ เพราะมันสู้ คนไม่ได้ คนยังถามตอบได้ ป้ายมันถามตอบ ไม่ได้ คุณสงสัยตรงไหนคุณถามมาเลย “เราไม่ได้ท�ำเชิงธุรกิจเกินไป คืออยาก คืน ก�ำไรให้ชุมชนบ้ า ง อยากให้ บางกะเจ้ า มีศูนย์เรียนรู้ เพื่อให้นักท่องเที่ยวได้เข้ามา เพราะส่ ว นมากเดี๋ ย วนี้ พื้ น ที่ เ กื อ บทั้ ง หมด จะเป็นธุรกิจแทบทั้งหมด ท�ำอะไรก็เป็นเงิน เป็นทองหมดแล้ว แต่ยังไม่มีใครคืนให้กับ ชุมชนให้มันเข้มแข็งกว่านี้” และนีค่ อื หนึง่ ใน “ชุมชนสีเขียว” ทีส่ ามารถ สร้างตัวเองได้อย่างมัน่ คงและมีความสุข พร้อมทัง้ ยั ง ช่ ว ยผลั ก ดั น ให้ ชุ ม ชนของตั ว เองมี ค วาม เจริญก้าวหน้าอย่างถาวรอีกด้วย

“Our farm is frequented by tourists from many countries.

There are western tour guides that visit daily, more so on the weekends. We don’t charge any fees; we simply allow all visitors to freely watch and learn. The staff are happy to provide information to visitors who enter the farming area. Some people ask why we don’t put up signs with details of each mushroom, what are their uses, etc. I would say no because it is unmatched with real people who can give you clear answers. The signs cannot do that; any questions are welcomed here.

We are not too focused on the business side as we wish to provide the community with profits. We want Bang Kachao to have a learning center for tourists to visit as most of the area nowadays is commercialized; everything is money. No one has yet given back to strengthen the community.”

This is a “green community” that is able to live happily and sustainably while helping the local community to prosper.

BLUME

THE COASTAL TREE

รุ่ย

ไม้ใกล้ฝั่ง รุ่ย เป็นไม้ยืนต้นขนาดกลาง มักขึ้นอยู่ บริเวณน�้ำกร่อยแถบป่าชายเลน แทรก อยู ่ กั บ ต้ น โกงกาง มองจากภายนอก ต้นรุ่ยกับโกงกางจะมีลักษณะไม่ค่อย แตกต่างกันนัก

lume is a mid-size perennial plant that grows on coastal saline alongside mangrove trees.

With naked eyes, Blume and mangroves are not particularly different.

Sakhla Village is believed be the only place where a dozen of Blume grow by the local’s aquafarms. The elders point out that Blume has become increasingly rare as time goes by and is unknown to the younger generation.

Although the plant can be used to cook and make desserts, it is not very popular because of the complicated preparation. However, the stem is often used as firewood for cooking and possesses the same characteristics as firewood from typical mangrove trees.

The bark of the tree is rough and rugged with roots crawling up from the ground. The flowers blossom into light green color. The fruit is long in shape resembling beans.

The young beans are green in color but will eventually turn brownish-purple when ripe and drop from the tree.

They are mildly bitter and puckery, and are not very popular because of the bitter taste that lingers on the tongue reminding d i n e r s o f wo r mwo o d.

Ripe beans that fall to the bottom of the trees can be used to prepare meals; however, the taste must be treated. The most common method is to boil in syrup.

The skin of the beans is first removed until the pulp inside the pod is seen. This is difficult because only a broken tile can be used to skin off Blume beans; any shaper tools may cut off the pulp along with the skin. The bean pulp is later boiled to rid of the bitterness and later bathed in limewater. We ask the locals as to how they can tell whether the beans are no longer bitter. They claim that the bitterness will be gone after a few baths. They also let us in on a little tip that adding a small amount of ashes into boiling water will speed up the flavoring process. Some people prepare the beans for the entire day before cooking them.

Even though Blume has many uses, a few people are aware of its existence.

If you are interested in seeing what the trees are like at Ban Sakhla Village, pay a visit to the aquafarming area outside the village to witness a rare coastal plant called ‘Blume’.

หมู่บ้านสาขลานับว่าเป็นแหล่งเดียวที่มีต้นรุ่ย ปลูกเรียงรายอยู่เกือบนับสิบต้น ขึ้นอยู่ริมฝั่ง ตามคันวังของชาวบ้านในหมู่บ้าน คนเก่าแก่ หลายคนบอกว่านับวันรุ่ยเริ่มหายากขึ้นทุกที คนรุ่นใหม่เริ่มไม่ค่อยรู้จักแล้ว แม้รุ่ยจะน�ำ มาประกอบอาหารทัง้ คาวหวานได้แต่กไ็ ม่คอ่ ย เป็นที่นิยมเท่าไรนัก เพราะท�ำยาก แต่ล�ำต้น นิ ย มน� ำ มาท� ำ เป็ น ฟื น ใช้ ป ระกอบอาหาร คุณสมบัติเหมือนกับฟืนที่ท�ำจากต้นโกงกาง เปลื อ กของล� ำ ต้ น รุ ่ ย ค่ อ นข้ า งหยาบ รากจะโผล่ขึ้นเหนือผืนดิน ดอกออกเป็นช่อมี สีเขียวอ่อน ผลของรุ่ยยาวเรียวเป็นฝักคล้าย ฝักถั่ว ถ้าผลยังอ่อนจะเป็นสีเขียว เมื่อแก่ จนร่วงลงใต้โคนต้นจะเป็นสีน�้ำตาลอมม่วง รสชาติของฝักรุย่ แบบอ่อนจะขม ฝาด คนไม่นยิ ม กินเพราะรสขมที่ติดลิ้นเหมือนกับบอระเพ็ด นั่นเอง แม้ฝักแก่ที่ร่วงอยู่ตามโคนต้นจะน�ำ มาประกอบอาหารได้แต่ก็ต้องผ่านการท�ำให้ รสฝาดที่หลงเหลืออยู่หายไปเสียก่อน ที่นิยม ท�ำมากที่สุดคือการน�ำไปเชื่อม

เราถามชาวบ้านว่า เมื่อไรจะรู้ว่า "รุ่ย" หายฝาด ค�ำตอบที่ได้คือ ต้มไปสัก ๓ น�้ำก็รู้เรื่องแล้ว เคล็ดลับคือ ใส่ขี้เถ้าลงไปในน�้ำด้วย เพราะขี้เถ้ามีคุณสมบัติ ช่วยท�ำให้รุ่ยนั้นหายฝาดได้ บางคนก็กะเวลาเป็นวัน เพื่อให้ฝักรุ่ยลาขาด จากความฝาดของมัน

ในการน�ำฝักรุย่ ไปประกอบอาหารทุกครัง้ ต้องผ่านการขูดเปลือกออกเสียก่อนจนเห็น เนื้อข้างในฝัก การขูดเปลือกก็แสนยากเพราะ ต้องใช้กระเบื้องที่แตกขูดออก หากใช้มีดที่มี ความคมมากกว่ากระเบื้องจะเฉือนเนื้อของ ฝั ก รุ ่ ย ออกไปหมดเสี ย ก่ อ น จากนั้ น น� ำ ไป แช่นำ�้ ปูนใสก่อนเอาไปต้มจนความฝาดนัน้ หาย เราถามชาวบ้ า นว่ า เมื่ อ ไรจะรู ้ ว ่ า หายฝาด ค�ำตอบที่ได้คือต้มไปสัก ๓ น�้ำก็รู้เรื่องแล้ว แถมยั ง ให้ เ คล็ ด ลั บ ว่ า ควรใส่ ขี้ เ ถ้ า ลงไปใน น�้ำด้วย เพราะขี้เถ้ามีคุณสมบัติช่วยท�ำให้ รุ่ยนั้นหายฝาดได้ บางคนก็กะเวลาเป็นวัน เพื่ อ ให้ ฝ ั ก รุ ่ ย ลาขาดจากความฝาดของมั น ก่อนน�ำไปประกอบอาหารตามกรรมวิธี แม้ส่วนต่างๆ ของรุ่ยจะน�ำมาใช้ให้เกิด ประโยชน์ได้แต่ไม่ค่อยเป็นที่รู้จักนัก ถ้าใคร อยากมาเยี่ยมชมแหงนคอมองต้นรุ่ยที่อยู่ ตรงหมู่บ้านสาขลา สามารถมาเยี่ยมชมได้ ที่นี่ โดยเดินออกจากหมู่บ้านมาตรงคันวัง ก็ จ ะได้ เ ห็ น กั น ว่ า ไม้ ใ กล้ ฝ ั ่ ง ที่ ชื่ อ “รุ ่ ย ” หน้าตาเป็นอย่างไร AU GU ST - SEPT EMB ER 2018

หากเราเดิ น ลั ด เลาะจากริ ม คลองลั ด หลวง ผ่านหน้าวัดจวนตรงทางเข้าหมู่บ้านบ้านดัง และเดินข้ามสะพานไปอีกฝั่งของคลองเราจะ เข้าสู่กวานเว่ขะราว ค�ำว่า “กวาน” เป็นภาษา มอญ แปลว่า หมู่บ้าน หมู่บ้านเว่ขะราวจึงเป็น ทีอ่ ยูข่ องคนเชือ้ สายมอญในอ�ำเภอพระประแดง เรามาที่นี่เพื่อตามหา “เมี่ยงค�ำปากลัด” ของกินเล่นธรรมดาแต่แสนอร่อยและขึ้นชื่อ “เมี่ยงค�ำปากลัด” เป็นอาหารขึ้นชื่อประจ�ำ หมู่บ้าน โดยมีป้าคิดซึ่งสืบทอดการท�ำเมี่ยงค�ำ จากรุ่นคุณแม่ต่อเนื่องมานานกว่า ๕๐ ปี

passed a temple and Ban Dang village. As we walk further down, we crossed a bridge to the other side of the canal to enter “Kwan Ve Ka Rao”.

The word “Kwan” in Mon language means village, therefore, the locals in Kwan Ve Ka Rao village are mostly Mons that are living in Phra Phadaeng District.

We came all the way here to look for “Miang Kam Pak Lad”, the famous savory leaf wraps.

The village is famous for “Miang Kam Pak Lad”, a signature recipe which aunty Kid’s mother has passed on to her 50 years ago.

“Aunty Kid” offered us a warm welcome by preparing us with some food in a “Khan Toke” (wooden utensils often used in northern Thailand).

There’s actually a trick to enhance the taste of savory leaf wraps that not many k nows of.

The trick is to consume it while there is an ongoing conversation with your relatives or visitors.

“ป้าคิด” เตรียมส่วนประกอบการกินจัดไว้ ในขันโตกรอต้อนรับพวกเรา การกินเมี่ยงค�ำ ให้อร่อยมีเคล็ดลับอย่างหนึ่งที่ใครหลายคน อาจจะไม่รู้ นั่นคือ ต้องกินระหว่างล้อมวง พูดคุยกันในหมู่ญาติหรือแขกที่มาเยี่ยมเยียน เริ่มต้นด้วยการเจียนใบพลูทั้งหัวและท้าย ให้สวยเสียก่อนจะหยิบสิง่ ทีจ่ ะต้องตักใส่เป็นค�ำ อย่างละเล็กอย่างละน้อย เช่น ขิงที่ถูกหั่น จนเหลือชิ้นเล็ก หอมแดงหยิบมาสัก ๑ เสี้ยว มะนาวที่ถูกหั่นเป็นเสี้ยวเล็กๆ ก็หยิบมาตาม ชอบใจ กุ้งแห้งตัวขนาดเท่าหัวนิ้วก้อยจาก คลองด่านก็ถกู หยิบใส่ตามมา โรยมะพร้าวคัว่ ที่ ซ อยเป็ น เส้ น เล็ ก บางด้ ว ยมื อ และถั่ ว To make these savory leaf wraps, we begin by cutting the edge of the betel leaf and forming it into a cone shape. Next, tiny pieces of ginger, a slice of shallot, a small piece of lemon, a piece of Khlong Dan dried shrimp which is a size of a finger nail, finely sliced roasted coconuts, freshly roasted peanuts and delicious sauce is added into the cone.

We were told that coral tree leaf is another alternative, so, beginners like ourselves decided to go with this option because the flavor is less bitter.

Once the sauce is drizzled into the bite sized cone, we then put the savory leaf wrap into our mouth.

The strong flavor of the ginger didn’t only come from the ginger I placed in the leaf but it also came from the sauce. Grilled ginger is a part of the ingredient to this sauce and its blended with other elements. Additionally, the herbs contained in the savory leaf wraps doesn’t only fulfil our stomach but it also helps curing diseases too.

What a menu!

จากอาชีพช่างจิลเวอรีทที่ ำ� งานศิลปะ เชิงพาณิชย์ ในยามว่าง “เดชา สนธินชุ ” หยิบกะลามะพร้าวในสวนหลังบ้านมา ทดลองท� ำ งานศิ ล ปะเป็ น งานอดิ เรก จนในที่ สุ ด งานอดิ เรกนั้ น กลายเป็ น งานศิลปะที่สวยงามจนเป็นที่ยอมรับ “ผมอยูบ่ างยอ ทีบ่ า้ นมีสวนมะพร้าว อยู่แล้ว พอเห็นมันนานเข้าก็หยิบมา แกะสลัก เราเป็นช่างจิวเวอรีม่ ามากกว่า ๑๕ ปีอยู่แล้ว มันจึงไม่ยาก พอเริ่มเบื่อ งานนั้นก็เอางานนี้มาท�ำเป็นงานอดิเรก ท�ำมาเกือบ ๑๐ ปีได้แล้ว” กะลามะพร้าวถูกแกะสลักทีละชิ้นๆ อย่างประณีต “คุณเดชา” ตั้งใจกับการ ท�ำงานทุกครัง้ เพือ่ ให้ผรู้ บั มองเห็นมูลค่า ของงานจากกะลามะพร้าว การท�ำงาน ในตอนแรกๆ เป็นการผลิตงานชิ้นใหญ่ ที่เน้นสิ่งที่แสดงถึงศิลปะความเป็นไทย เช่น แกะสลักเป็นสัตว์ในป่าหิมพานต์ แกะสลั ก พระพุ ท ธรู ป และผลงานที่ ภูมิใจที่สุดที่ถือเป็น “งานชิ้นเอก” หรือ Masterpiece ของเขาคือ “รูปแกะสลัก พระพิฆเนศ”

‘Decha Sontinuch’, a jeweler who is also a hobby artist began playing around with a coconut shell he discovered in his backyard. After getting to experiment his skills over a period of time, people finally started to see the potential in his art work.

“I live in Bang-Yor and there’s a coconut farm at my place.

Plenty of these coconut shells has been lying around for years so I decided to carve on it. I’ve actually been a jeweler for over 15 years already, so the technique wasn’t too difficult for me. When I get bored of my main job, I tend to pick up a coconut shell and carve it as my hobby and this is what I’ve been doing for almost 10 years.”

Decha delicately carves the coconut shells one by one.

Every effort is made to ensure that the recipient sees the value of the product. The design of his carving are mostly related to Thai fine art such as animals that lives in the Himmapan forest (a forest in the Thai literature), Buddha statue and his masterpiece is a carving of Ganesha.

“There was an OTOP event happening around 4-5 years ago and the reason why I picked Ganesha was mainly because he is the goddess of art. It took me almost a month

Believers of Brahmanism believes that ‘Ganesha’ or also known as Ganesh are the goddess of knowledge who is dazzled in all kinds of art. Ganesha is one of the best-known and most worshiped deities amongst many art students and artists. Moreover, he is illustrated as a hallmark of various arts related organization such as the Fine Arts Department, Silpakorn University, Nakhon Si Thammarat College of Fine Arts and Bunditpatinasilpa Institute.

Additionally, people believe that Ganesha’s standing pose with 4 arms depicted on the coconut shell means he’s giving blessings. It took Decha almost a month to carve one of these even though it doesn’t seem like there’s much fine points.

“My style of carving involves creating a dimension and attempting to create a floating effect for the focal point.

To achieve this, I have to cut the coconut shell into pieces and assemble it into a shape of Ganesha. You can see it from my sketch, it is quite similar to stuccoing but without framing.”

The majority may not see the value in coconut shells, but surprisingly, carving has added a price to it. Apart from spending hours and hours on the details, it requires the artists to be creative in order to make it valuable.

Valuable both in people’s eye and in the artists’ heart.

As for myself, I stop to sit down and have a chat with the owner who stands in front of her product line, Ps. Prapasri Prapasri Paisarnrattana started off experimenting with her knowledge in herbalism by mixing herbal shampoo from sesame oil and coconut oil.

“I used to own a beauty salon but I wanted to do something less demanding as I grew old.

My mother has always made herbal balls so I used the knowledge to make shampoo and conditioners, which were later registered as OTOP in 2003” Ps. Prapasri started from processing herbs into hair care products such as shampoo, conditioners and hair oil that are mixed with sesame oil and coconut oil. Later, she started making herbal soap. We don’t put high price tag because we want everyone to be able to afford giving offerings to monks. When I make the packages, I make sure to be very meticulous with the sewing and cutting. Offerings for monks need to be delicately made; we want them to be offered fine things for use.

ป้ายชื่อร้านบนไม้ทาสีแดงตัดกับภาษามอญ ทีบ่ รรจงเขียนเป็นสีทองบอกว่าเราได้มายืนอยู่ หน้าร้าน “ชาน อ๊อว์ด” แล้ว ประตูไม้ที่เปิด ออกท�ำให้เห็นบรรยากาศภายในทีเ่ ป็นบ้านไม้ แสนอบอุ ่ น ข้ า วของถู ก จั ด อยู ่ ใ นตู ้ ก ระจก ได้แก่ บรรดาของเล่นในอดีตที่เจ้าของร้าน สะสมไว้เมื่อครั้งยังเป็นเด็ก บางส่วนก็มาจาก คนในชุมชนฝากไว้จนกลายเป็นครอบครัว ของเล่ น ขนาดใหญ่ แทรกด้ ว ยชั้ น หนั ง สื อ เล็กๆ ที่กระจายอยู่ทั่วพื้นที่ในร้าน และเมื่อ เดินออกไปจนสุด จะพบทางเดินที่ยื่นลงไป ในคลองพร้ อ มเรื อ ล� ำ เก่ า ปลดประจ� ำ การ ที่ตอนนี้กลายเป็นที่อยู่ของปลาในคลองแทน สิงหาคม - กันยายน 2561

พอหันหลังให้คลองจะพบบันไดทางขึ้นชั้น ๒ ของร้านแอบอยู่ข้างๆ ด้านบนเป็นพื้นที่ ที่จัดไว้ส�ำหรับนั่งเล่นกัน ตรงกลางเปิดโล่ง ให้เห็นบรรยากาศของร้านชั้นล่าง “ชาน อ๊อว์ด” เป็นภาษามอญ แปลว่า รั ก สุ ด ใจ ชื่ อ นี้ แ ทนสายใยความรั ก ของคน ในครอบครัวที่หวังว่าร้านเล็กๆ แห่งนี้จะมอบ ไออุ่นให้ผู้มาเยือนเหมือนบ้านหลังหนึ่งของ พวกเขา เมื่อแรก ชาน อ๊อว์ด เป็นเพียงห้องสมุด ที่เปิดบริการให้คนในชุมชนเท่านั้น ต่อมา ได้เปลี่ยนเป็นร้านกาแฟเล็กๆ จากการซื้อ เครื่องท�ำกาแฟสดมาท�ำกันเองในครอบครัว

การริ เริ่ ม ท� ำ อะไรใหม่ ๆ ที่ แ ต่ เ ดิ ม ไม่ เ คยมี อย่างการท�ำร้านกาแฟในชุมชน มาพร้อมกับ การเรียนรู้ที่จะท�ำและคิด เพื่อให้ถูกอกถูกใจ ผู้มาเยือน จากนั้นก้าวต่อไปของ ชาน อ๊อว์ด ก็มาพร้อมกับการเข้าใจและปรุงให้เป็นสูตร ของความรักทีล่ งตัว จนใครต่อใครต้องแวะมา เมนูของร้านชาน อ๊อว์ด ได้แก่ กาแฟ ชา นมสด เสริมด้วยขนมกินเล่น อาทิ เค้ก ขนมปังปิ้ง และวาฟเฟิลสูตรพิเศษของร้าน และเนื่ อ งจากมี เจ้ า ต้ น อั ญ ชั น เลื้ อ ยเล่ น อยู ่ รอบบ้าน จึงถูกจับมาเป็นเมนูน�้ำที่แสนอร่อย อย่าง “อัญชันนมสด”

‘Shan Ouad’ means deep love is Mon language. The name symbolizes the love between the owner’s family and the owner hopes to share this love to his customers.

Upon your arrival, you will spot a sign written in both Mon and Thai language.

It is imprinted in gold on a piece of wood painted in red. The opened wooden door allows us to see the warm ambience inside the wooden house.

As you walk inside the house there are glass cabinets filled with old toys that the owner used to collect and some of these toys were deposited by the community, resulting the shop with a great toy collection. Also, the collection includes small book shelves which is placed all over the shop area. As you keep walking, you will find a walk way that leads you to a canal and a decommissioned ship which is now a home to the marine life. Turn your back to the canal and you will see a set of stairs that takes you to the second floor. The area above has an open space in the middle which allows customer to sit back and see the surroundings down below.

Initially, Shan Ouad used to be a library that was only opened to the community. Later on, it developed into a small coffee shop where the owner’s family began by purchasing a coffee machine. The determination to learn and do something new have enabled Shan Ouad to meet what their customers are looking for.

Getting to “Baan Baan Bang Ka Jao” isn’t difficult (although it’s quite a long way), you can decide whether you would like to drive or ride a bicycle to Soi Petchahueng 20. Once you are inside the Soi (or also known as street), signs will direct you to the restaurant which parking area is available. Walk further down for approximately 100 meters and you will find a two-story house located by the banks of Chao Phraya river. Though the price of this restaurant is inexpensive but the food is hotel quality.

The view here is indescribable, especially during the evening and the lights shining from the other side of the river couldn’t match with the beautiful blue sky any better. So, don’t miss out this magnificent restaurant while you are in Bang Ka Jao! As per the food, there are northern Thai cuisine such as Hang Leh (pork curry), Nam Prik Num (northern Thai green chilli dip), pork crackling, Sai Uau (northern Thai spicy sausage) and best of all is “Lab Mhoo Kua Chao Nua” (northern Thai spicy minced pork salad). This dish is known to be finger liking good! Additionally, roasted crispy pork, fried pork with lemongrass and deep-fried shrimp with tamarind sauce is offered at the restaurant. These menus are usually eaten with some steamed rice, fermented pork fried rice or pork fried rice.

You can also order a coffee, iced/ hot chocolate, Italian soda or beer is while gazing at the view in the outdoor area.

hen your body has been W overworked, it is time for a little break. …Close your eyes and imagine of a peaceful place by the nature which would be suitable to for a recharge. But where could that place be?

“Khun Samut Chin” might be the one place we seek. Here lies a village in the middle of a river close to the Gulf of Thailand. It is the closest n e i g h b o r to t h e o p e n s e a i n Sumutprakan. Though isolated from the mainland, this little island is home to a school, a temple, community health services and small thatched-roof house that was magically turned into a guesthouse for visitors.

Getting here is not as difficult as you would think. Simply take a pick-up taxi or a shuttle van from Phra Samut Chedi Pier – just look for “Sakhla” sign on a small building. One on the van, do not forget to let the driver know to stop at Pa Li Pier. Once you get off the van and walk into a small alley, you'll see elderlies resting in their boats or on the pier. We make a casual eye contact and tell them to go to “Tha Ban Puyai”. They will know exactly where that is. You can expect a special fee of 100 baht for the first passenger and 10 baht per next passenger.

It only takes 10-15 minutes on a ferry from Pa Li Pier to the destination. The journey is riddled with the nipa palm trees and forest on both sides of the river. Here you can see fishing village culture and witness kids enjoying the water and surfing on the waves from boats passing each other. Once you get off a boat and walk on the ridge for about 500 meters you will reach Visitors Service Center or Ban Puyai Wissanu of Khun Samut Chin to let the village chief know the background of the visitors. He will tell you a brief history of Khun Samut Chin and the current situation. Afterward, he will call in the guesthouse to pick you up by boat. Alternatively, you can walk to the guesthouse by heading towards Noom Noi Shrine. Just turn left toward the concrete and wooden bridge, and keep walking straight. Just be careful not to fall off the wooden bridge if you’re not used to walking on one.

A small Pomeranian dog will greet you as you stop in front of “Pee Por Peang Nong Peang Por” guesthouse which has been opened for 3-4 years. There are 7 houses in total. The name of the place is inspired by the name of the owner’s only daughter.

“Pee Por Peang Nong Peang Por” is one of the guesthouses in Khun Samut Chin under village chief’s care. The stay costs a mere 600 baht per person which comes with 3 freshly cooked meals per day using fresh ingredients from the local fishermen that venture to the sea seeking fresh catches for visitors to taste. There are also activities during the day such as catching clams and planting mangrove trees.

The locals mentioned that the best time of a year is winter that comes with constant breeze. You can also watch the sunset at the guesthouse or take a walk on the ridge next to Wang Kung (shrimp farms) in the village toward Wat Khun Samut Trawat (Wat Klang Talay). You can also enjoy the nature’s greatness by the Gulf of Thailand from the bridge that extends into the sea.

As the night comes, the light in every house is off leaving the moonlight to shine on the village with bugs singing a perfect lullaby to send us off to a sleep in a little home.

As birds signal a new day, you will find yourself waking up to a peaceful setting and a cool weather that embraces you. Looking out, you will see a warming sunlight that shines from the sky.

Your seemingly exhausted body will be energized and freshened as you take a deep breathe from the fresh air. Perhaps it is because of the enchanting spell that was cast upon us since the moment we set foot on Khun Samut Chin.

The time comes when we must wave goodbye to the little house on the ridge that had become our home on this trip. We cannot help but feel slightly dismayed by the thought of all the chaos that one must face. We can only just close our eyes and embrace the nature in our thoughts and dream of the day that we revisit this place to recharge our life energy…
