TECHNICAL INFORMATION

This work requires amplification for the following instruments:

Electric violin Synth. / Moog bass Electric Bass

It is preferred that the rest of the ensemble should be with little or no amplification. For this reason, all amplified instruments should find a volume that fits with the relative level of the acoustic instruments. At no point in the piece should the amplified instruments eclipse or drown out the acoustic insturments. Everything should be nice and blended.

A high quality PA system is required with at least 2 channels on stage. Suggested speakers: Meyer UPQs with subs.

For patches, contact the composer at samuelcarladams@gmail.com

DELAYS / PROCESSING:

The E. Violin and E. Bass signals should be routed to the FOH so that the sound can be processed (delays with specific durations and amplitudes, octavers, etc.). All processing indications can be found in the score.

All processing patch changes are indicated in the bottom staff of the score. There should be a designated person who is not the audio engineer, capable of reading a score, to cue patch changes during all rehearsals and performances

FOR ELECTRIC VIOLIN:

The overall sound should be fairly “natural” like viola da gamba, resonant. The violinisit may add subtle EFX (reverb / compression / harmonic saturation etc.).

E. Violin should be amplified with an amp. onstage next to the soloist. The signal chain is as follows:

FOR SYNTH. / BASS

The Synth. / Bass player should be equipped with an 88-key MIDI controller split so that Ab2 and above trigger sine waves with subtle harmonic saturation; G2 and below should trigger a Trillian Moog Synth Bass VST and stretchedpiano samples. Ideally, there is a stage monitor for the player.

This player requires a MacBook Pro equipped with Apple MainStage and the following plug-ins / instruments:

Spectrasonics Trillian Bass VST Waves J37 Tape Saturation (or equivalent)

FOR E. BASS:

The overall sound should be warm with deep low end, but also with quite a bit of treble frequencies for articulation.

The E. Bass should be amplified with an amp. onstage next to the player.
