The main silhouette for this part of the Pause is the ‘cone’ shape in which this creates structure and movement (Sinclair and Yiannakou, 2015). The the top of this trend take inspiration from the utility dress (Sinclair and Yiannakou, 2015) paired with ‘slightly flared crop trousers’ which have a slit down the side. The materials used are a shiny satin as well as ‘subtle jacquards’ which create a matte and shiny texture (Sinclair and Yiannakou, 2015). The second part of this trend includes a fitted cropped top complemented with a high-waisted A-line midi-skirt. This emphasises the cone silhouette. In order to hold the structure, cotton canvas is used here (Sinclair and Yiannakou, 2015).

In order to design for Dries Van Noten, Pause is the most suitable trend for the collection. However, the main route that is most appropriate for this transitional spring/summer collection is Lounge Deluxe. This is because the silhouettes used are a lot more relaxed, where the fabrics are more lightweight as well as having them layered, which he has stated is a key part of his collections. This adds the structure to his designs, but the fabrics and drapes create a delicate and feminine feel.

This aspect of Pause has a more relaxed effect where it is more feminine in which the dress is very lightweight due to the fabric being a translucent chiffon (Sinclair and Yiannakou, 2015). Gathers are major part of this trend and this gives a ’gentle, luxurious feel’ (Sinclair and Yiannakou, 2015) with the use of a jersey poloneck to add some colour to the design. The second design includes slim joggers with a belted jacket which accentuate the leg and waistline (Sinclair and Yiannakou, 2015) with the use of canvas cotton, sheer nylon and silk jersey being the main fabrics here (Sinclair and Yiannakou, 2015).

LOUNGE DELUXE SILHOUETTES

LOUNGE DELUXE COLOUR PALETTE

The colour palette for this trend focuses on using the colours creating a warm and cool effect depending on the seasons. Cold white, blue and grey create a cool effect that is calm whereas apricot, coral and stone blue play a warmer part to the collection. In order to match the S/S17 aspect, deeper colours such as ‘ebony’ and ‘mangosteen’ (Boddy and Sinclair, 2015). To give a luxury feel to the trend, golds are used as well as a bright yellow to add a ‘surprising twist’ (Boddy and Sinclair, 2015).
