Sometimes when I’m in a tricky situation, I ask myself, “What would Jesus do?” Maybe you’ve heard that before, too. The Bible tells us that Jesus was humble, kind and always put others before Himself. He never acted like He was too important to help people. Instead, He served others with love.

So, what does that mean for us? If someone is being mean, instead of getting angry, we can respond with kindness. Maybe your sibling disagrees with you, or your friend wants to play a different game. Putting others first is a way to act like Jesus.

We can also act like Jesus by obeying God—Jesus followed God’s plan, even when it meant doing something hard. We can obey our parents, teachers and God, too, even when we don’t feel like it.

So next time you’re unsure what to do or how to respond, try asking yourself, “What would Jesus do?” and then do your best to follow His example.

You’ve got this!

Help the bees get through the hive.

What does this mean?

The Bible teaches us that Jesus is the best example of being humble and obedient to God. Even though Jesus is God, He chose to come to earth as a person, not as a rich or powerful king, but as a humble servant. He even died on a cross to save us from sin because He loved us so much. Jesus showed us that being great doesn’t mean being the most powerful—it means loving and serving others. God wants us to be humble and to put others before ourselves. We can all follow Jesus’ example and be humble like Him.

Hi kids!

This week we celebrate a special day—Father’s Day! It’s a day to celebrate and thank our dads and the father figures in our lives for all they do. But did you know that we also have a heavenly Father who loves us?

The Bible tells us that no matter what, God is always there for us. In 2 Corinthians 6:18, He says: “I will be your Father. You will be My sons and daughters.” We are called children of God because God is a father to everybody, even people who do not have fathers. He loves us, listens to us and takes care of us, just like a good father does!

I hope you have a wonderful Father’s Day celebrating your own dads, father figures and your heavenly Father.

But for us there is only one God. He is the Father. All things came from Him, and we live for Him. And there is only one Lord. He is Jesus Christ. All things came because of Him, and we live because of Him.

—1 Corinthians 8:6

What does this mean?

God is our Father because He made us, just like He made the earth, the soil, the sky and the sea. Everything is God’s creation—including us!

Match each shirt to the correct shadow.

Honouring Dad

The Bible teaches us to honour our parents. In Exodus 20:12, God gives us one of His commandments: “Honour your father and mother. Then you will live a long time in the land the Lord your God is giving you.” Here are a few ways you can show love and honour your dad today (and every day!):

Say thank you and let your dad know you appreciate him.

Pray for your dad and ask God to watch over him.

Spend time together! Play a game, read the Bible or just talk.

Be respectful and helpful at home.

Show your love by giving him a big hug or a kind note.

Happy Father’s Day!

Hi kids!

Do you know how to start a garden? It’s easier than it sounds. All gardens start from just a few basic ingredients: seeds, soil, sun and water.

First, choose your seeds. I love to grow vegetables, such as peas, tomatoes and carrots. Then, you put fresh soil where you want your garden to grow, plant your seeds, water them once a day and make sure that they get plenty of sunlight. After a week or so, you might start to see a little green sprout peeking out of the soil—how exciting!

Without water, sunlight and you, the gardener, taking care of the plants, they will struggle to grow. Life is kind of like that, too. We need people around us, such as parents, family members, friends, teachers, corps officers and Sunday school leaders, to encourage us to grow. By caring for us, teaching us and showing kindness, they help us be the best we can be!

Who can you show encouragement to this week?

Grow Your Own Peas

Start your own pea plants indoors with these easy steps! Ask an adult to help or try it with your family.

What you’ll need:

Pea seeds (sugar snap, snow or dwarf pea varieties)

Potting soil

Pots or small containers (tip: recycled egg cartons or clean yogurt cups work well for this. Make sure to poke two small holes in the bottom of the yogurt cups for drainage.)

How many of each vegetable can you find?

Steps:

1. Fill your containers with potting soil.

2. Plant a pea seed about two centimetres deep in the soil.

3. Water lightly. The soil should be moist but not soaked.

4. Place your plant near a window that gets 8-10 hours of sunlight each day.

5. Check the soil each day to make sure it stays moist. Water as needed.

6. Wait for your seeds to sprout! As the plant grows, it will begin to flower and eventually produce yummy peas for you to eat.

Let us consider how we can stir up one another to love. Let us help one another to do good works. And let us not give up meeting together. Some are in the habit of doing this. Instead, let us encourage one another with words of hope. Let us do this even more as you see Christ’s return approaching.

—Hebrews 10:24-25

What does this mean?

Just like a plant needs water and sunlight to grow, we need encouragement and love from one another to grow in our faith. The Bible tells us to “stir up one another to love,” which means we should encourage one another to be loving and kind, to care for and help others. When someone is feeling down, we can be hopeful and supportive.

We need each other. God wants us to spend time with other believers. That means going to church, Sunday school and even spending time with Christian friends. We should help our friends be good Christians.

Hi kids!

I once went to an ice cream shop that sold more than 150 flavours. The counter stretched across the whole store and behind the glass were rows of every flavour of ice cream you could imagine—from chocolate and vanilla to lavender and cinnamon toast.

I spent a long time trying to decide which one I wanted. With all the combinations of flavours, I could make an ice cream sundae that was completely unique to me. In the end, I decided on two scoops—chocolate and pistachio. It was delicious!

God made all His children to be different and wonderful, just like a one-of-a-kind ice cream sundae. We are all children of God, no matter who we are. Some people might look, sound or act differently than us. Some people might have different interests, eat different food or enjoy different ice cream flavours than we do. But it’s important that we love and accept people no matter what, because we are all children of God.

What does this mean?

Imagine you are at school and a new student joins your class. Maybe they look different, talk differently or don’t know how to play the same games as you. What would Jesus want you to do?

The Bible teaches us that we should accept and welcome others, just like Jesus accepts us. Jesus doesn’t pick friends based on how they look or where they come from—He loves everyone! And when we love and accept others, we make God happy and show the world how wonderful He is.
