Hi kids!
You might have heard the phrase, “Don’t judge a book by its cover.” It means that you shouldn’t make assumptions about somebody based on what they look like. Instead, like the amazing stories we find inside a book, you should look at all the great things that are inside of a person—their kindness, compassion, love and even their sense of humour.
You don’t have to be the tallest, fastest or loudest for God to notice you. He sees your heart. He sees when you are kind, when you pray and when you try your best, even when no one else sees.
Read this issue of Just for Kids to learn about David, who God chose for a special role because of his heart.

God Chooses David
God told His prophet Samuel to go to a town called Bethlehem. There, he would find a man named Jesse. One of Jesse’s sons would be the next king of Israel because the current king, Saul, had disobeyed God.
Samuel met Jesse and saw his oldest son. He thought, This must be the one! But God said, “Do not look at how someone looks on the outside. The Lord looks at what is in the heart.”
Jesse showed Samuel seven of his sons, but God didn’t choose any of them. Then Jesse said he had one more son named David, who was out taking care of the sheep. David was the youngest son.
When David came in, God told Samuel, “He is the one.” So, Samuel poured oil on David’s head to show that God had chosen him. Even though David was young and not as tall or strong as his brothers, God saw his heart and chose him to be king one day.

Things to Think About
Hi kids!
This week is Thanksgiving, a time when many of us will join family and friends to give thanks … and to eat! My favourite dishes are turkey, mashed potatoes, brussels sprouts and sweet potatoes with mini marshmallows on top. Yum! I’m so grateful to spend this time with people I love.
In the Book of Psalms, David (a king and faithful servant of God) wrote many poems about how much he loved God, and how grateful he was for God’s love. We still refer to these Psalms today. They remind us that the Lord is good, strong, comforting, and that He is always with us.
This Thanksgiving, I’ll be sure to say an extra special prayer to thank God for all He does for me.

Psalm 23

David was a king of Israel who wrote many of the poems in the Book of Psalms. Sometimes he wrote when he was sad or afraid. Other times he wrote when he was happy and thankful. When he penned Psalm 23, David was grateful because he knew God always took care of him.
The Lord is my shepherd. He gives me everything I need.
He lets me lie down in fields of green grass. He leads me beside quiet waters.
He gives me new strength. He guides me in the right paths for the honour of His name.

Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will not be afraid. You are with me. Your shepherd’s rod and staff comfort me.
You prepare a feast for me right in front of my enemies. You pour oil on my head. My cup runs over.

How many of each item can you find?
What key has legs and can’t open a door?
A turkey
What happens if you eat too much at Thanksgiving?
You getautumn-yache!
I am sure that Your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life. And I will live in the house of the Lord forever.

Hi kids!
How do you make hard decisions? If you’re not sure what to do, ask an older person you trust for advice. This person could be a parent, relative, teacher or one of the leaders at your church.
In this issue of Just for Kids, you’ll meet Solomon. He was one of the wisest people who ever lived. His wisdom came from God.
