COME JOIN THE... PIRIPENGUINS
Do you prefer spending time with others or being on your own? Some animals, such as snow leopards and polar bears, much prefer having lots of alone time. However, other animals, such as penguins, really thrive when they’re in big groups. Penguins can form giant colonies (also known as rookeries) where lots of penguins live. Some colonies can have up to a million penguins! In Piripenguins, one penguin colony lives on an iceberg out at sea. It’s the home of five penguin pals called Pancake, Nugget, Brinicle, Looph and Flutter. These penguins are all as different from each other as they could be. For example, one of the penguins, Looph, is a genius scientist, while another penguin, Flutter, is a cheeky jokester. However, even though these five penguins don’t have much in common, they’re best friends! They know that each of their unique personalities helps to make life so much more fun.
Plus, these penguin buddies need to stick together, because something ridiculous is always taking place on their iceberg! They might have to investigate a mysterious monster, put on a musical show or stop hundreds of Flutter clones from causing chaos –life is never boring in this penguin colony!
There are lots of episodes of ‘Piripenguins’ available to watch on BBC iPlayer now. Or catch them at 4.45pm every weekday on CBeebies.
Penguins are my favourite animals, so I knew I’d enjoy Piripenguins. What I liked most about it was that the five penguins are all different, but they work together so well. The five friends support and help each other when they’re struggling, and this makes their colony the best it can be.
Thinking about this penguin crew reminded me that God wants us all to work together and help each other too. In Ecclesiastes 4:9-12 it says that two people are better than one. This is because if two people work together they can achieve more. Also, if one person is feeling sad or in trouble, then the other can help them. God wants us to love each other, help each other and stick together no matter what. When we help others, and let others help us, we all become stronger and happier. So is there anyone that needs your help this week?
Songs for the Soul
Last year, my wildest dream came true. I got to meet my favourite gospel artist, Sola Allyson! I know you may have never heard of her before, but her songs have been a huge blessing to me. Not only have I enjoyed dancing my heart out in praise to God, but when I’ve been worried or anxious, Sola’s songs have comforted me. They’ve reminded me that God is good, that he cares about me, and they’ve given me hope for the future.
Did you know that in the Bible there’s a whole book that’s filled with songs? In fact, the book of Psalms has 150 songs! Many of them were written by King David as he went through different experiences during his lifetime. Some songs praised God for his awesomeness and all the great things he’d done, while other songs asked God for help when things were tough.
The coolest thing about the Psalms is that whether we’re feeling happy, sad, excited or confused, they remind us that we can always talk to God. God cares about every part of our lives and wants to help us every step of the way.
Read the comment to the right about how songs can help us to understand God’s love
In one of David’s most famous songs, Psalm 23, David beautifully captured the great love that God has for each of us. David knew that God had taken care of him like a good shepherd takes care of their sheep – by protecting him from danger and making sure he had all he needed to live a safe and blessed (happy) life.
So this week, why not read Psalm 23 and celebrate with confidence the great love God has for you too?

Bumper Bible Breakdown
Did you know the Bible isn’t one big book? It’s actually 66 books put together to tell one big story of God’s great love. Join us as we look at each Bible book and discover why God made the world, what went wrong and how in the end God saved the world through his son, Jesus.
Shoulder to Shoulder
We’ve learnt about quite a few prophets who warned Israel, Judah and many other nations that they would be punished for not following God. However, the truth is that most people weren’t paying attention to God’s warnings, no matter how many times they were told that they were in trouble!
Another prophet who was told by God to warn people was Zephaniah. He lived in Judah a few decades before the Babylonians would invade. Zephaniah told the people of Judah that they (and the people of all other nations) would face destruction for making up their own gods instead of worshipping the only real one.
However, Zephaniah also had a message of hope. One day, people from all around the world would stand shoulder to shoulder to serve God. God would save his people, and show them how much he loved them!

Hello, readers, i’M PATCH AND I’VE GOT A PROBLEM I THINK YOU MAY BE ABLE TO HELP ME WITH. i’VE LOST A VERY IMPORTANT OBJECT SOMEWHERE IN THIS ISSUE. WOULD YOU BE ABLE TO HELP ME FIND IT? i HAVE A CLUE OF WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE HERE.
You might know the date that Valentine’s Day is on or the name of the current king of the United Kingdom. However, there are also plenty of strange facts we reckon you haven’t got stored in your noggin! So here are a couple of random facts that you definitely (and by definitely, we mean don’t really) need to know.
Charles Grey was the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom from 1830 to 1834. He was also the dad of 15 kids! While Charles was a great prime minister, he wasn’t very good at coming up with baby names. In fact, three of his kids were called George (and one was called Georgina), three were called William and two were called Elizabeth!
You might be good at breakdancing or samba dancing, but do you know how to round dance or waggle dance? Those are the names of two dance moves that are used by bees! We’re not kidding – bees actually dance, and they use dancing to communicate with their nest mates!

World Environment Day
Thursday 5 June is World Environment Day – the United Nations day for encouraging worldwide awareness and action to protect our environment.
God created the world and wants us to take care of it. If we harm nature, such as by cutting down too many trees or polluting the air, it can hurt animals, plants and people everywhere. Looking after the planet means a better future for everyone.
Raising Champion Farmers
Earlier this year (in our 29 March issue) we shared about a Salvation Army project in Zimbabwe called Raising Champion Farmers. Through the project, 300 farmers have received training in conservation agriculture. It’s a way of improving the soil so farmers can grow more healthy crops and overcome the challenges of climate change.
Meet Marble
Marble Mupfurira is one of the farmers who is taking part in the project. Since attending each of the training sessions, she has seen the benefits of conservation agriculture. She said, ‘We were given seeds by the project and everything that we needed, so that we could do everything we were taught.’
At first, Marble was a bit unsure about the new farming methods, such as using compost and mulch on her crops. She planted two sections in her garden, one using compost and mulch and the other without. She said, ‘When we came to our garden, we found that the vegetables with the mulch and compost grew better and tasted better than those without.’
Marble has five sons and a daughter. She is keen for them to learn about conservation agriculture and take part in the farming activities. She said, ‘It is my wish to work with my family, so that they can know how it is done, because they are the future of tomorrow.’
Plastic Pollution
The theme for World Environment Day this year is plastic pollution. Plastic pollution is a big problem because plastic doesn’t break down easily. When people throw plastic away, it can end up in the ocean, rivers and on the land. Animals can get hurt when they eat plastic or get stuck in it. It also makes places look dirty and can be bad for our health.
Plastic Solution
Plastic pollution is a big problem, but it’s also one that can be fixed. The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is running a campaign called #BeatPlasticPollution to encourage people to change the way they use plastic. Just follow the five Rs…
Refuse: Say no to single-use plastics by choosing sustainable alternatives.
: Cut down on plastic use by choosing products with minimal or no plastic packaging.
Reuse: Extend the lives of plastic items by repurposing or using them multiple times.
: Properly sort and recycle plastics to ensure they can be processed into new materials.
Rethink: Think about your daily habits and how you might use less plastic.
What does all of this have to do with Marble and the other farmers The Salvation Army is working with in Zimbabwe? Well, we are all connected. The choices we make can impact people in different parts of the world.
Helping-Hand Appeal
Have you heard of the Helping-Hand Appeal? It’s an annual fundraising appeal, led by The Salvation Army’s International Development UK and Family Ministries departments, which encourages people to look beyond their own communities and support others around the world. This year, the focus is on food security. Money raised will support projects around the world, such as Raising Champion Farmers in Zimbabwe.
Could you combine your efforts to reduce plastic with fundraising for this year’s Helping-Hand Appeal? Here are some creative ways to make a difference…
Plastic-Free Challenge: Get sponsored to go plastic-free for a week.
Seed Fundraiser: Sell seed packets to promote home-grown produce and reduce plastic waste.
Clean-Up Challenge: Organise a litter-picking event where participants are sponsored for each piece of plastic they collect—turn it into a friendly competition!
Visit salvationist.org.uk/helpinghand for more information and ideas!
Together, we can support food security while reducing plastic waste.

We’ve received some absolutely brilliant news from Caroline, aged 8! Caroline and her friends are working on a community garden project –they’re turning the front garden of the Salvation Army church she attends into a memory garden and allotment! They recently started digging out a new flower bed and they’re planning on growing fruit and vegetables to help feed their local community. Caroline also told us that they want to encourage local wildlife into the garden to help pollinate the allotment, and she can’t wait to taste the fruit that they grow. Well done, Caroline and friends –what a fantastic way to care for God’s creation and show his love to the people in your community!
