Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family of Elroy Krueger.

Elroy was a Charter Member of the Rib Falls Lions Club and a pivotal member to our group. He took pride in selling the cash raffle tickets to his friends in Poniatowski and donating prizes to our event bucket raffle. When he wasn’t hustling paddles during past raffles, he was ensuring our event guests had the best desserts. We will continue to honor Elroy and what he stood for in our community.

CURBSIDE BRUSH CHIPPING

The Village of Athens will provide curbside brush chipping on the following Thursdays during the month of MAY only: May 11th and May 25th. After May, you will need to bring your brush to the yard waste disposal site. Please call the Village Clerk’s office by 9am on these dates listed to request curbside chipping (715-257-9170).

*This is NOT a tree removal service, but instead should be used to provide a service to residents who are doing routine tree maintenance (general guideline is that it should take less than 15 minutes of chipping per residence). *Branches should not be any larger than 4 inches in diameter. *Please stack the piles of brush neatly no taller than 4 feet high and 10 feet long and place them parallel to the street. *No stumps.

If these guidelines are not followed, your brush will not be chipped curbside and you will be responsible for hauling it down to the yard waste disposal site. As a reminder, you may bring your brush to the Disposal Site (located at 104 Degner Street) at any time. If you have any questions, please contact the Clerk’s office.

Village of Athens SPRING CLEANUP

The annual garbage Spring Clean Up day for the Village of Athens will be on FRIDAY, MAY 12TH. Village residents can deposit as much garbage as you can find at the curb and it will be picked up. Please try to keep the piles of garbage as neat as possible. Please note this service is only for Village residents who pay for monthly garbage collection!

List of UNACCEPTABLE TRASH MATERIALS: (please note this is not a comprehensive list, but it covers the majority of item categories) batteries, major appliances, hazardous waste, electronics, asbestos, televisions, machinery, tires, compost, computers, auto parts, waste oil, ballasts, fluorescent light bulbs, construction material, and concrete.

On SATURDAY, MAY 13TH, from 8am–2pm, at Memorial Park, the following will be collected at no charge (call 715-574-9867 with questions): washer/dryers, air conditioners, dehumidifiers, dishwashers, stoves, furnaces, snowblowers, water heaters, lawn mowers, small appliances, microwaves, grills, pots and pans, batteries (lawn mower, car, tractor, semi), game systems, car metal parts, aluminum or steel rims (no plastic parts), metal shelving/filing cabinets/toolboxes/bed frames/swing sets, brass.

The following will have minimal charge: Refrigerators/freezers: $20, TVs/computer monitors: $10
