Activities of Don Bosco Children Fund in Kep Province from January to March 2022 Don Bosco Color Games in Kep Province On February 4th 2022 we celebrated the Feast of Saint John Bosco with the traditional Color Games. The month of January was a time of preparation with all the academic community and the sharing among children, youth and teachers. This year we got the coming and participation of children from villages around Kep, Takeo and Kampot (Kampong Trach and Ko Sla).

It was day full of joy and emotions! We shared food, snacks and gifts with our children.

In the afternoon, they returned to their places and hope of returning next year.

Academic achievements On January 10th, 2022, six Sun children received recognitions from their school for first to third places in academic achievements. We’re very happy and proud of our children because it’s the one proof that they’re doing their best. This also shows the good work our teachers in motivating and mentoring their studies and education on their daily life and the discipline.

Welcome Papa Hector and Mama Ellen On 4th March we welcomed Papa HECTOR and Mama ELLEN Loontjens, our benefactor of Sawasdee Foundation. They visited Cambodia and came to Don Bosco Kep for the official opening of the new dormitory at the Banteay Srei girls hostel. They did so also in the name of Mr. Piet de Visser and Mr. John Vander Voor that sent support for the new dormitory. We were very happy and excited, especially the girls staying at the school about the new room, which greatly 2

facilitates the living condition of the female students. We have a specious room, toilets, water and electricity, which give easier access to the student for usage.

8TH March International Women’s Day On the 8th of March, we celebrated a meaningful program during the International Women’s Day, to pay a homage to our grandmothers, mothers, aunts, sisters, daughters and all women and to raise awareness about women’s equality. Empowering women is a plan of all together, men and women, boys and girls. For this reason, all males of Don Bosco Kep offered presents to all females in our academic community.

Support from TV5 Cambodian Channel On the morning of March 9, 2022, and thanks to the promotion of our past pupils, we received the visit of the leading team of TV5 Cambodian Channel. We would like to express our sincere gratitude to Mr. Huong Dara Mony, General Director of TV5, on behalf of Mr. Supachai Verapuchong and the staff of TV5, who assisted Don Bosco Technical School in Kep during the Covid19 pandemic. Once more, TV5 made itself present inside Don Bosco Kep to support our children and youth with the donation of 30 sacks of rice, 10 boxes of soft drinks, 10 boxes of biscuits, 21 boxes of toothpaste, 30 boxes of noodles, 50 boxes of fish sauce, 50 boxes of soy sauce, 1 bag of sugar and 30 packs of canned fish. During the pandemic, Don Bosco Kep became the shelter for more than 300 children and youth, who could not return to their homes for many reasons. Thanks to benefactors such as TV5 Cambodian Channel, other companies in Cambodia, local government and international donors, our community of children and youth have been able to keep the mission of education, protection and development. The TV5 Channel made also a report on their platforms about Don Bosco Kep, underlying the efforst to stay at the side of our children and youth. Don Bosco Visit to Oddor Meanchey Children Fr. Albeiro Rodas Ly Samnang of Don Bosco Kep and Fr. Eugene Xalxo of Don Bosco Sihanoukille, visited the children program of Oddor Meanchey between 7 and 9 March 2022.

Teacher Van Bophai, past pupil of the Catholic Saint Paul Institute in Information Technology and former IT teacher of Don Bosco Kep IT Department, created a simple center to teach computers and English to rural children and youth of Tramphea Prasat District. Fr. Ly Samnang could send to teacher Van Bophai 10 computers and a projector thanks to the online program during Covid19's pandemic supported by Rotterdam SSCR and Wilde Ganzen Foundation of the Netherlands. There are also 8 children supported by Don Bosco Children Fund.

Don Bosco Home Visit to Koh Sla Commune, Kampot Province On 19th March 31, 2022, DBCF of Kep Province visited and inspected the living conditions of the children living in Koh Sla Commune, Kampot Province. We personally visited each child's home and looked at the actual family situation to make sure they were safe in the daily life, as well as looking at the child's education. We are happy to fulfil our mission and to help our children achieve their dreams for the future. Kos Sla Commune is a region at the northwest of Kampot Province, near the Bokor Mountain, 50 kilometers at the north of Kep, with a road of difficult access. Families depend on forest and farms and their economy is very fragile, making those children abandon school very easy if they are not supported.

Second Semester Exam for Technical Students at Kep The week of 28 to 31 of March was a special time for the students of the first year of Don Bosco Kep Technical School with their first semester exam.

Ratanakiri and Kampong Cham Children report The children and youth integrated to the Don Bosco Children Fund and the Don Bosco Sun Children, coordinated from Don Bosco Kep, got the funds for the month of March. They are children living in villages in Kampong Cham (inside a brick factory), in Ratanakiri Province (Jarai children) and in Oddor Meanchey.
