Registration and Admissions Journey
Thank you for considering Salesian College for your son’s secondary education. We know that selecting the best possible school for your son is an important process, and the Admissions Team is committed to making your family’s experience an enjoyable one.
Registration
The normal entry to Salesian College is in Year 7 when boys are 11. Boys may be admitted at other times provided that a vacancy exists in that year group. Parents or guardians may register their sons at any time via the College website https:// www.salesiancollege.com/admissions but no later than the examination deadline in the year before intended entry. For entry to the College in Year 7 in September 2026 this will be November 2025.
Year 3 / 4 Boys
Parents and students are welcome to register and attend any advertised Open Days when in Year 3 or 4.
Year 5 Boys
We invite you and your son to visit the College at our termly Open Events, to see and hear from our Senior Leadership Team, dedicated teaching staff and, most importantly, our current students, who can share with you their personal Salesian journey. Year 5 boys may experience life and learning at Salesian College by attending our Year 5 Taster Day on Monday 30 June 2025 in the Summer Term.
Year 6 Boys Admissions Criteria
Admission to the College is based on the following three criteria:
1. Informal interview with a member of the Senior Leadership Team;
2. Reference from current school;
3. Entrance Examination result.

Informal Interview
All candidates will have a tour of the College, and meet with a member of the Senior Leadership Team, typically the Deputy Headteacher, for an informal interview. This allows us to get to know each boy as an individual and for them to get to know us. It also allows a deeper discussion on life and learning at the College. The Deputy Headteacher will go through the Entrance Examination in detail and you will have the opportunity to discuss any queries regarding the admissions process or the College in general.
Entrance Examination
The Entrance Examination is held at Salesian College in early January of Year 6. For entry to Year 7 in September 2026, the Examination will be held on Tuesday 7 January 2026. The exam consists of multiple choice papers in Mathematics, Verbal Reasoning and English comprehension and a creative writing task. For boys who are abroad, we can arrange for the test to be taken in their current school. Students joining older year groups will sit separate assessments depending on the prospective year group in Mathematics, English comprehension and an extended writing task.
Reference from current school
We will request a confidential reference from the Headteacher of your son’s present school before the Entrance Examination in January.
Offers are made on the basis of these three criteria by the end of January in Year 6, with a deadline for acceptance of offers by parents in early March.
