Formou-se em Arquitetura na Escola da Cidade (SP, 2012) e fez pós-graduação em Práticas Artísticas Contemporâneas na Fundação Armando Álvares Penteado (SP, 2017). Estudou arquitetura na UPC - Universitat Politécnica de Catalunya, em Barcelona (2010) e curadoria na Sotheby’s Institute of Art, em Nova York (2014).
Morou um ano em Tóquio, onde fez uma exposição e participou da residência artística AIR3331 Arts Chiyoda (2019). Participou das residências artísticas da OMA Galeria, em São Bernardo do Campo, SP (2023) e do Duplex, em Lisboa (2024). Foi uma das artistas selecionadas para a XXIII Bienal Internacional de Arte de Cerveira (2024), quando uma das suas obras passou a integrar a coleção. Participou de exposições em São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Tóquio, Lisboa, Cidade do Porto e Santiago do Chile. e é diretora da plataforma de arte Bigorna.

Sofia graduated in Architecture at Escola da Cidade (SP, 2012) and completed a postgraduate degree in Contemporary Artistic Practices at Fundação Armando Álvares Penteado (SP, 2017). She studied architecture at UPC - Universitat Politécnica de Catalunya, in Barcelona (2010) and curation at Sotheby’s Institute of Art, in New York (2014).
Sofia lived in Tokyo for a year, where she held an exhibition and participated in the artistic residency AIR3331 Arts Chiyoda (2019). She participated in artistic residencies at OMA Galeria, in São Bernardo do Campo, SP (2023) and at Duplex, in Lisbon (2024). She was one of the artists selected for the XXIII Cerveira International Art Biennial (2024), when one of her works became part of the collection. She participated in exhibitions in São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Tokyo, Lisbon, Porto and Santiago de Chile. and is the director of the art platform Bigorna.
SOBRE SUAS OBRAS | ABOUT HER ART WORKS
Discuto no meu trabalho a imprevisibilidade, impermanência , incompletude e incerteza de acontecimentos que ocorrem no nosso dia-a-dia. A própria noção do dia, que se encerra apenas para nascer novamente. Todo dia somos apresentados a doses homeopáticas da morte.
A minha principal ferramenta é o desenho e a linha. Com eles, mergulho nas entranhas do corpo físico e social, falo sobre acidentes, dores, adoecimentos, passagem do tempo, envelhecimento e regeneração. Tendo o desenho como ponto de partida, expando para outros suportes como escultura, bordado, fotografia e instalação, para lidar com as fraturas que se acumulam ao longo da vida. Quebra de tabus, repulsa, desmistificação da morte, reconhecer e lidar com a dor são sensações e pensamentos que espero causar no observador - um exemplo é o uso constante do cabelo, que muitas vezes pode ser dúbio, causando repulsa e curiosidade nas pessoas.
Sou influenciada fortemente pela filosofia do Wabi Sabi. As técnicas tradicionais que aprendi morando no Japão – a caligrafia, a pintura com pigmentos naturais, a inserção do ouro e a dança Butoh – me ajudam a aproximar esse conceito da minha realidade e falar sobre quebra, ferida e perecimento.

In my work, I discuss the unpredictability, impermanence, incompleteness and uncertainty of events that occur in our daily lives. The very notion of the day, which ends only to be born again. Every day we are presented with homeopathic doses of death.
My main tool is drawing and lthe ine itself. With them, I dive into the bowels of the physical and social body, talking about accidents, pain, illness, the passage of time, aging and regeneration. With drawing as a starting point, I expand into other media such as sculpture, embroidery, photography and installation to deal with the fractures that accumulate throughout life. Breaking taboos, repulsion, demystifying death, recognizing and dealing with pain are sensations and thoughts I hope to provoke in “my” viewers - one example is the constant use of hair, which can often be dubious, causing repulsion and curiosity in people.
I am strongly influenced by the philosophy of Wabi Sabi. The traditional techniques I learned living in Japan - calligraphy, painting with natural pigments, the insertion of gold and Butoh dance - help me bring this concept closer to my reality and talk about breaking, wounding and perishing.
