Middle & Senior School News Mufti Day – Kokoda Youth Program Tuesday was our Mufti Day for this term (Kokoda themed) and we raised over $1300 for the Kokoda Youth Program through gold coin donations. We were fortunate to have Jo Clark (OAM, Olympic Gold Medalist - 2000 and the Community Engagement & Communications Officer at the Kokoda Youth Foundation) visit us to share the stories behind how our fundraising is helping young people at risk in our local area. Again this year, a number of our Senior students and College staff have been training for the upcoming Kokoda Challenge event, and their persistence, determination and sense of mateship is an inspiration.

Preparing for Exams – Senior Study Sessions / Year 11 & 12 Exams This Wednesday the Year 12 students and a number of their teachers stayed behind after school to study together in the CRC. Next Wednesday the Year 11 students will do the same. There is no doubting the benefits pre-exam sessions have for our students. We know that peer tutoring and having their teachers on hand, assists them to develop their understanding and to review key concepts in depth. A reminder that Year 11 & 12 students are on Exam block from Thursday 12th June until Friday 20 June. During exams, students do not need to be at school outside their exam times. But, they must sign out if they are leaving after a scheduled exam and those students who want to study in the CRC during exam block are welcome to do so. All Year 11 & 12 students have an exam on the morning of Friday 20th June and will be dismissed at 12.40pm. Canberra Parent Information Night On Tuesday Year 7 parents attended an information evening about the upcoming Canberra trip. I’d like to thank Mrs Hamilton for her work in coordinating this wonderful tour and for her presentation on Tuesday. If you are a Year 7 parent, and you were unable to attend, materials will be accessible through Parent Lounge. Power of Sleep A good night’s sleep lays the foundation for strong academic performance and sound physical and mental health. Yet research from around Australia shows that the majority of senior students receive inadequate amounts of sleep. On Thursday we were fortunate to have Brad Felstead, author of Teen Sleep: How to help your teenager get a good night’s sleep, visit the College and deliver a seminar for our students in Years 10 – 12 and Secondary parents. The key message aimed to motivate students to get the sleep they require to be their best and armed students with easy to use strategies and techniques to help them get the right amount of sleep they need. Upcoming Events Next week, there is An Evening of Drama event on Tuesday 3rd June. The Senior Drama classes, are performing in the Ruth Butler Theatre from 6.30 – 8.00pm. On Wednesday night, there is a special evening for students (Years 10 – 12) and Secondary parents, Empowering Young Women - Making Positive Choices, in the Ruth Butler Theatre from 5.30pm – 7.00pm. There will be guest speakers from a range of professions including a doctor, emergency room nurse, psychologist, police officer and two past students, working with students and parents. The pressures that young women face and empowering students to make positive choices will be the focus of discussion. Light re-
