Middle & Senior School News “Foundations of Faith, Footprints for the Future” – Our 20th Anniversary theme The start of the College year brings with it endless possibilities. At this time of year, I get excited about many things and one of them, I have to admit, is buying new stationery. The promise of the first crisp page in the book that will hold the story of the year ahead is something I relish. This year, my notebook has on its cover a lovely quote from Einstein; “Learn from yesterday, Live for today, Hope for tomorrow.” As I write, the connection between our College theme “Foundations of Faith – Footprints for the future” and Einstein’s quote bring to mind the Hope and Promise that Christ brings to us each day and that our potential to make significant contributions within and beyond our community by using our God given gifts. May we all connect throughout the year with our foundational truth that God works in, through and amongst all that happens here at St Andrews: assured in the knowledge that the possibilities ahead for learning and growing are infinite. The Importance of Communication It seems fitting at the start of the year to remind parents that my door is always open. As a College, we really value the partnership that exist between home and College. I encourage you to email me at virginiaw@salc.qld.edu.au or to call or stop by the office if you wish to talk about any aspect of your child(ren)’s College experiences. Reading the information sent home in the bulletins and newsletters, as well as visiting the College website regularly are vital to ensuring you are up to date with events and news from the College. Regular contact with your child(ren)’s teachers also helps to form strong partnerships for success and to support the young people in our care as they grow, develop and learn. The diary is a very important communication tool and should be sighted weekly. Finally a gentle reminder to all families about the importance of returning forms and permission notes to the College promptly so that information is accurate in the event of emergency and to ensure students do not miss opportunities for excursions.

The Carpark All members of the community are asked to be vigilant, patient and focused on the safety of the students whilst driving in and around the College. (Stay focused, observe general traffic rules and don’t respond to messages or calls on mobiles.) Students should be collected from outside the Worship Centre and beyond the crossing. Maintaining a sense of cheerfulness and patience when congestion occurs is best for all involved. The Senior Library All Secondary students are welcome to use the Secondary library for purposeful study after school until 5.00pm daily. Technology We will soon launch the St Andrews App which we hope will be helpful for all families. We are also looking to further roll out a ‘BYOD – Bring Your Own Device’ program for Year 12 – Year 9. And our intentional Cybersafety and Digital Citizenship programs will also continue to assist our students. Any use of technology should be in keeping with our ICT Acceptable Use Policy and Social Media Policy. Parent Information Sessions We are trialling a new Meet and Greet and Parent Information Session format this year. These sessions will be held in the afternoon from 3.30pm-5.30pm on Thursday 7 February. Please note the P & F are providing Afternoon Tea for families attending the Meet and Greet which will be a wonderful and informal way for parents to meet their child’s LAG teacher (MS/SS) and class teacher (JS). Following the afternoon tea, secondary students and their parents are strongly encouraged to attend information sessions that will cover important information about the year ahead from 4.30pm.
