Junior School News Supporting Children with their Reading Many exciting things are happening in education - student led inquiries, blended learning and STEAM education to name a few. All of these contemporary educational programs are great and provide excellent opportunities for students. For students to access all of these items in their education, they need to be able to read what is put in front of them. Last week, Mrs Onn and Mrs Walker conducted a workshop that gave very practical tips on how parents can assist their children to develop the skill of reading. The hope is that some of these parents will be able to donate some of their time to listen to other children read at school. Another evening session is being planned for those who were unable to attend the first one that was held during the school day. In Brief Celebrating the Good stuff • 3 Way conferences began last week and continue next week. It is great to see the partnership that exists between parents, teachers and children • Year 4A visited the ELC to share their knowledge of New Year in Japan. They sang the New Year song in Japanese. • Students were involved in a Skype session with our sister school in Japan. The students were able to observe their Japanese friends and their lunch time routines. • Some boys involved in a garden project, had the opportunity to do some woodwork in the workshop. They were making signs for their garden. • Year 5 students learned about alternate energy forms when the energy trailer visited last week.

We made contact with a school in our adopted country Anguilla for the Commonwealth Games. Students in Year 5 have been sending messages of support and learning more about Anguilla. Year 4 spent some time with Year 11 students in the newly refurbished J Block. It was a great time of sharing and learning from each other.
