Welcome back to school and welcome to new families. Attendance at school every day your child is well is vital. Absenteeism for holidays could impact on student learning. All leave request to come to Darrin at darrins@ salc.qld.edu.au All other absentees please notify Karen in the Junior School Administration Office at jsadmin@ salc.qld.edu.au and your child’s teacher. Located on the College website is information relating to the Arts programmes that are available to your children www.salc.qld.edu.au/cocurricular/the-arts/ Volunteers are welcome and appreciated. We are still looking for parents to volunteer to assist in the classroom, Class Coordinators, Tuckshop, as Traffic Safety Attendants and other areas of the College. Volunteers are asked to please sign in at the office or sign in with the Sinepro app that can be downloaded onto your device and please remember to wear your volunteers badge. First time volunteers will need to see Karen in the Junior School Administration Office to help you get sorted with the paper work we require. Thank you for your patience at the beginning of the year with traffic. Please continue to be on the lookout for children, as often they are not watching what they are doing. If you do park off site, please use the crossing near Daffodil Street. Mrs Frost talked to us about the importance of Internet safety. Parents are invited to sign up for a tutorial that can help them to feel in control of technology in their family and to help reduce the likelihood of serious cyber issues. Please watch out for the login details that will be emailed to all families.
Growth Mindset - Mathematics Have you ever said or heard someone say “I was never any good at Maths at school”? Statements like these can have a negative impact on children’s progress in Maths. Students see that it is ok to not succeed in Maths and therefore not put the effort into mastering difficult concepts. We often talk about “Growth Mindsets” and the importance of effort on the path to mastery in Mathematics. We encourage the students to be courageous and ‘have a go’ at new topics studied and to see that making mistakes are opportunities for students to grow and learn even further. I would encourage all families to embrace a growth mindset when it comes to Mathematics this year. Darrin Schumacher Head of Junior School
