Junior School Bulletin Issue 16 / 25 November 2016
Junior School News Class Lists Junior School teachers have been working very hard on getting the class lists ready for 2017. They have worked hard to ensure that we have three even classes in each year level taking into account such things as the learning needs of all students, those students who work well in the same class and those who would benefit from being separated, and ensuring that all children have at least one friend in their class. We have considered all parent input but please understand that we cannot meet all of them and we have also used our professional opinion to create the classes. You will be able to see your child’s class on TASS Parent Lounge on Monday 23 January. We will send you an email to let you know when you will be able to access your child’s class information in Parent Lounge. Volunteers I would like to take this opportunity to thank all parents and grandparents who have volunteered their time in some way this year. Whether it has been helping in the classroom, Tuckshop or Uniform Shop; perhaps serving on the P & F, assisting with special events such as the Trivia Night, your time and expertise has been appreciated and helps to build the community atmosphere that St Andrews is renowned for. Swimming This week the P-3 students have enjoyed cooling off in the pool as they undertake their swimming lessons. The students are put into groups according to their ability and taught skills that will help them progress with their swimming. Renovations The Junior School renovations are now complete! We have our car park back and the students are now enjoying the newly remodeled rooms. The Music Rooms look fantastic and some of you had the chance to view them when we had the concert series during the week. I would like to publicly thank Andrew Farrell, parent to Oliver and Eli, and onsite manager for CONDEV for his outstanding work managing the project. His attention to detail helped to ensure the building process ran as smoothly as possible. Assembly Last Tuesday we were able to celebrate and say thank you to our student volunteers at our assembly. They have
volunteered in leadership roles such as captain, student council, worked in the library, assisted with technology, raised the flags, helped with the Friday morning picnic, or ran the assemblies, to name a few. We would like to acknowledge them for their work done and showing initiative throughout the year. Presentation Night The Junior School Presentation Night will be held on Monday 28 November beginning at 6:30pm. Parents are asked to be seated at 6:15pm for a 6:30pm start. What a wonderful opportunity to celebrate a great year at St Andrews! It is also a rite of passage for our Year 6 students as they enter Middle School. Reports Teachers are putting the final touches on the Semester 2 reports. These will be emailed to you at the end of the school year. Please take the time to read the reports with your children. It is important to focus on the effort that the children have put into their work rather than solely on the final grade. Thank You to Staff We have had another very successful year at St Andrews. St Andrews is very blessed to have many very experienced and talented teachers and support staff. I would like to thank each of them for all that they do for the children in their care. Christmas Holidays Christmas is a very special time of year where we celebrate the birth of our saviour, Jesus Christ. It is a time for us to celebrate with our families. I would like to wish you all a safe and blessed Christmas. Over the course of the holidays, I would encourage all students to read regularly and to practice their number facts. I would also suggest that the students have technology free days. Have a restful break and I look forward to seeing you all in 2017. Darrin Schumacher Head of Junior School
