Junior School News Prep 2017 Last week we welcomed our graduating class of 2029 to the College at our Prep Information Night and annual Teddy Bear’s Picnic. It is always a very exciting time when the new Prep students and their families start their transition into the College. I would like to officially welcome the new families into the community and we look forward to working with you.

leave. Both ladies have very impressive resumes and have outstanding references and we are excited about them joining our staff next year. Rita joins us from the highly prestigious “Garden International School in Malaysia” and has taught in a number of schools in Australia. Sue is a former Deputy Head of Junior School at A.B. Patterson College and has recently completed contracts at Lindisfarne Anglican Grammar School. We welcome both of these highly experienced teachers to our team next year. Lunchtime Concert Series Some of the students involved in PAT lessons will have the opportunity to demonstrate their mastery of their instruments through lunchtime concerts. Please keep an eye out for these concerts and if parents are available, you are more than welcome to attend. The Arts program is thriving at St Andrews and it is fantastic to see the students demonstrating their talents at these concerts. Presentation Night The annual Junior School Presentation Night will be held on Monday 28 November in the MPH beginning at 6:30pm. It is a compulsory event for all students in Years 4-6 with the students in younger year levels invited to attend as well. It is a great night celebrating the achievements of a busy and rewarding year. At this night we also have a ceremony to open and dedicate the Junior School Redevelopment work that has been completed this year. We will also recognise and thank all who contributed to the project.

Family Service Last Sunday the Year 4 students led the Family Service at church. It was a very thought provoking message with the students reflecting on times in their lives when they were challenged, in much the same way that Job in the Old Testement was challenged. Thank you to all of the families who have contributed to our Family Services throughout the year. You have certainly added something very special to our Sunday Services and we hope that it has been a valuable experience for you and your family as well. New Staff The College is very excited to announce that Rita Korotcoff and Sue Rawlings have been added to our teaching ranks next year on one year contracts replacing staff on maternity

Mufti Day At our recent Mufti Day, a number of students raised money for charities that were important to them. Just this week I received lovely letters of thanks and gratitude. The first letter was for Shaya, Mia, Georgia, Jye and Sidney who raised money to go towards Kids with Cancer. They were amazed that students in Year 1 would show such initiative to raise money for their charity. The money raised is going towards helping families of children who are fighting cancer and helping to deal with the financial burdens that are associated. The other letter I received was from Ohana for Youth, who work with underprivileged kids on the Gold Coast. Anenya, Kayla and Kirra raised money for this organisation. The director of the program said “it was a monumental act of kindness which was very much appreciated” to raise money for the underprivileged and allowed these students to participate in events that we take for granted. Darrin Schumacher Head of Junior School
