Junior School News P-3 Mini Olympics The P-3 students had a magnificent day last Thursday at the Mini Olympics. The day started off beautifully with the Year 6 Active Leaders reading the athlete’s oath. The students competed in a variety of events including egg and spoon, tug of war, sack races, relay races, obstacle courses, parachute games and accuracy throws with the main emphasis on doing their best and having a lot of fun. It was also great to see a lot of parents kick of their heels and participate in some of the events too.
health/well-being? How does stress affect your health/wellbeing? How do assistive animals affect the health/well-being of the people they serve? How does the age of the adopted children affect their wellbeing? What is the impact of body image on wellbeing? Once they have inquired into their chosen topic by contacting primary sources and researching in libraries and internet sources, the students take meaningful action. It is through this meaningful action that higher order thinking skills are developed and students are encouraged to pose solutions to complex problems. We look forward to the students demonstrating their learning and exhibition on 14 October at 7.00pm in the MPH. It promises to be a great night where we can celebrate with the students their learning journey. All welcome. School Holidays The school holidays provide an excellent opportunity for students to take a break from the intensity of the school program. It is a time to recharge the batteries in preparation for a busy Term 4. I would like to take this opportunity to say thank you to all the parents who have volunteered their time in some capacity this term. Your willingness to get involved in the College helps us to build a wonderful community.
Year 3 Sleep Over Thank you to the Year 3 staff and some brave Year 3 parents who camped out in the classroom last Friday night. It was a great night of activities and the students appeared to really enjoy the experience. The Year 3 sleepover helps to develop independence and prepares the students for their 3 day camps that will follow in Years 4 and 5, and the Canberra Trip in Year 6. The Exhibition The Exhibition represents a significant event in the life of a Year 6 student at St Andrews. As a culminating experience it is an opportunity for students to exhibit the attributes of the Learner Profile that have been developing throughout their years in the Junior School. The students undertake an in depth inquiry around the theme of Health and Wellness. From this theme students have chosen to inquire into such topics as: How being homeless impacts on a person’s wellness? How does music affect our
Looking Ahead Term 4 is traditionally a very busy term with lots of events planned to celebrate another successful school year. Please check carefully for the dates on the College calendar located on Parent Lounge. Of particular note are the Junior School Presentation Night to be held in MPH on the 30 November, The Day with a Difference on the 30 October, P-3 Swimming lessons commence on 23 November and the Year 6 Exhibition on the 14 October. Amongst the busyness of Term 4, Teaching and Learning remains the primary focus. There are still so many wonderful learning opportunities for the students and we encourage them to continue striving to do their best efforts right through until the end of the year.
