Junior School News Cultural Awards Night What a fantastic night we all had at the Cultural Awards Night last week. It was a visual and audio feast of singing, dancing and music. The students have been blessed with some God given talents but it is also evident that there is a lot of hard work and practice. It was great seeing so many students on stage with the finale of “Viva La Vida being a real highlight. Thank you to all staff involved in the Arts for a great night and to you the parents for the dedication and perseverance that you have shown to help your children get to where they are now.
If you would like your children to be a part of the Performing Arts Tuition (PAT) Lessons, please head to the College website for further information www.salc.qld.edu.au/ cocurricular/the-arts/ and register your interest. Please note that these are popular programs, so while you may not get in straight away, your child will be considered if a place becomes available. Prep 2017 Next Wednesday we will be hosting our Prep 2017 parents at an information night. This is a great opportunity for the new families to get a further insight into the College. Later in the week we will once again host our Teddy Bears Picnic. These events will help the children and parents transition from Pre Prep into Prep. Mufti Day The College turned pink and yellow for the Mufti Day on Tuesday 18 October. The money raised, $1266.75, will be donated to cancer research. Thank you to all families who supported this worthy cause.
We also had some students who were taking their own action to raise funds for their nominated charities. Congratulations to Bryce, Jayden and Adam for raising funds towards the Super Max turtles for sick kids in hospital; Anenya, Kayla and Kirra for raising money for Ohana Youth; and Shaya, Mia, Georgia, Jye and Sidney for raising money for cancer research. We are so blessed to have students who consistently care for others.
Fete Please mark your diaries now to keep Saturday 20 May free for the St Andrews Biennial Fete. It is always a terrific day for the community. We are now seeking coordinators for different aspects of the Fete. If you are able to assist in any way with the Fete please send through your contact details and any information to pandf@salc.qld.edu.au PYP Evaluation Visit There was a collective sigh of relief on Friday afternoon as the Junior School staff completed the PYP evaluation visit. In all high performing schools and organisations, teams take the opportunity to reflect on their practice and identify ways to improve. The evaluation visit has allowed us to reflect deeply on our practice. It will identify our strengths and what we are doing well in. The visiting team will also identify areas for growth and we are excited about future opportunities. Darrin Schumacher Head of Junior School
