"Good afternoon everyone and welcome back to the Premier Plus Stadium for today's Pitching-In Northern Premier League Midland Division game."

Today we extend a warm welcome to the Players, Officials and Supporters of Loughborough Dynamo and we hope you enjoy our hospitality here this afternoon in what is our last fixture of the regulation season.

Indifferent performances and results over the whole season have left us in a final finishing position of eighteenth in the Midland Division and we now face a relegation playoff match here at the Premier Plus Stadium next Saturday, the 29th April, kicking off at 3.00pm. This will be a one off, winner takes all game against a club finishing in second place in one of sixteen Step five leagues, the identity of whom we will face, at the time of writing, is still unknown but we should know tomorrow (Sunday).

I would just like to thank anyone who has taken time to read our matchday magazines this season. Each publication is compiled and edited by myself with regular contributions from John Walker and Chairman Barry Cavilla, all at zero cost to the club other than my time and to know that it is actually getting read on a regular basis is a massive boost.

Get behind the boys today as I know you will. and please try and get as many people here next Saturday to support the team. Your support throughout this difficult season has been magnificent and regardless of what level of football we will play at next season, I sincerely hope you will all joins us once again.

See You All Next Saturday.... PUMP UP THE VOLUME

ST NEOTS TOWN 8 NORTH GREENFORD UNITED 0

St Neots clinched the Central Division league title in their first season at Step Four with a non stop scintillating display of football to thrash luckless North Greenford 8-0 scoring four times in each half. It took their tally of league goals to 113 in just 41 matches and they can look forward next season to life at Step Three in the Premier Division of the Southern League. It is an outstanding achievement for a side that three seasons ago finished 17th at Step Five in the UCL and is a fitting tribute to the focussed ambition of Manager Dennis Greene and Chairman Mike Kearns and of course the squad of players who have worked so hard for each other throughout the season. In front of a crowd of 817 – the highest in the Southern League on the day St Neots were irresistible against a side who had gone very close to beating them in their first meeting back in October when St Neots scraped a 2-2 draw with a late equaliser.

The match got off to the explosive start that was needed to calm any pre-match nerves for within four minutes St Neots were 2-0 up and looking certain winners before any latecomers had reached their seats. After less than ninety seconds a delightful Ben Mackey through ball played Stefan Moore clear of the offside trap and he cleverly let visiting keeper Andy Caesar commit himself before slotting the ball past him and before the excitement subsided Rene Steer marauded down the left to set up Dan Jacob who stepped inside his marker to score with a scorching left foot drive. It would have been three in six minutes but for a magnificent tumbling save by Caesar to deny Moore but St Neots carried on their domination with Chris Hope heading just wide from a Jacob corner and Mackey shaved the crossbar with a volley.Greenford looked mesmerised and after 28 minutes Steer crossed to the far post to pick out Moore who unselfishly squared for Ben Mackey to make it 3-0. Six minutes later it really was all over as a contest when Lewis Hilliard and Lewis Hilliard combined on the right and the cross was netted by Ben Mackey. Greenford’s first direct shot came from Zac Joseph but was too high and at the end of the half both Mackey and Hilliard went close to extending the lead.

GOOD AFTERNOON AND A WARM WELCOME TO THE PREMIER PLUS STADIUM TO OUR FINAL VISITORS OF THE LEAGUE SEASON

This should have been our final home match of our first season in the Northern Premier League but because we finished in eighteenth place in the league table, we are obliged to win a home play-off match next Saturday if we are to compete at Step Four next season, although at this stage we do not know who we shall be entertaining from Step Five.

Back to out visitors who are making their first ever visit to the Premier Plus Stadium. Our two sides have previously met only once and that was at Loughborough in November when we plotted our own downfall in a 3-1 defeat that saw us concede a penalty kick in each half (duly converted). Half time substitute Joe Rider did his best to get us back in the game with a second half goal that made the score 2-1 to our hosts but the second penalty proved to be a clear decider on the day. Loughborough are currently comfortably placed in midtable where they will finish possibly one place higher than last season, although two seasons ago in the abandoned season they were actually second in the league table after just eight matches. They are the higher graded of the two sides based in their town with the Loughborough University Students playing in the United Counties League.

This season opened badly for our visitors when in the FA Cup Extra Preliminary Round played the Saturday before the season began, they suffered an early exit beaten 2-0 at the seaside by Step Five Skegness Town who play in the United Counties League Premier Division North. However, they did much better in the FA Trophy beating Corby Town 3-1 in the first qualifying round, then travelling to NPL Division One East side Long Eaton to win 4-2 but in the third qualifying round they were beaten at home by the odd goal in three by Worksop Town who have just recently been crowned champions of the NPL Division One East. They also recorded a notable 3-1 home victory over promoted Stamford back in November,

TheLastTimeWeMet......

Loughborough Dynamo 3 St Neots Town 1

A penalty conceded in each half, proved St Neots downfall on their first ever visit to Loughborough Dynamo. There was no dispute about the second award – a goal that clinched the points after a St Neots comeback – but the first was a hotly disputed decision and agreed by home officials as a refereeing error. Lady Luck does seem to be hard on Pete Gill’s side at present because the overall performance was not bad and deserving of at least a share of the points. Once again it was a much-changed St Neots side that began the match with new signings Liam Hook and John-Paul Duncliffe making their debuts following their transfers from Yaxley. Full back Aaron Smith returned after his one match ban and Manny Osei returned to the side. Toib Adeyemi had departed from the club, Joe Tarpey and Marc Abbott were missing and Joe Rider started on the bench.

St Neots goalkeeper Jamie Greygoose was in early action saving bravely at the feet of Princewill Ogunmekan who had slipped the offside trap and then after a quarter of an hour Bastos went down under an innocuous challenge by Steve Sylvester and the Referee pointed to the penalty spot. St Neots protests were waved away, and Kevin Bastos netted from the penalty spot to put the home side ahead. Aaron Smith was then booked for a late challenge and St Neots problems multiplied when the home side scored an excellent second goal. The tricky Bastos went past his marker on the bye line and pulled the ball back to Jack Gibson who unmarked fifteen yards from goal produced an unstoppable shot into the roof of the net.St Neots regrouped and tried to reply but their finishing was off target and the home keeper never tested.Greygoose then had to produce a brave save at the feet of Gibson after more clever play by Bastos and the first half ended with the St Neots keeper under pressure pushing away a fierce shot from the overlapping Brandon Webster.

The second half began with a very contrasting pattern to the match. With Joe Rider on for the limping Brandon Njoku St Neots dominated play for the first 25 minutes and created several decent chances to get back on terms. Trey Charles had an early net-bound shot deflected for a corner, Charlie Lewis got above the home defence to head wide from a corner and in St Neots best move of the game Callum Anderson exchanged passes with Manny Osei to set up Charles whose shot passed the wrong side of a post with the keeper beaten after 54 minutes. Five minutes later the same combination of visiting players saw Osei set up Joe Rider and his crisp shot beat the home keeper to put the visitors firmly back in contention.

LOUGHBOROUGHDYNAMO

TheLastTimeWeMet......

The score could haver been levelled but for a good save by home keeper Lewis King to deny Charles, and then the advantage seemed to shift as the home side hit back. After 70 minutes Bastos forced Greygoose into action once again and four minutes later a mistimed challenge by Lewis on Bastos conceded another penalty kick that the Loughborough away tucked away to dent St Neots newly found confidence. St Neots tried to rally with all three permitted substitutes utilised, but that unfortunately conceded third goal was enough to see the home side inflict St Neots’ sixth defeat in their last seven outings. With Daventry Town winning at home St Neots are now further adrift of safety.

NORTHERN PREMIER LEAGUE – MIDLAND DIVISION

St Neots Town 1 Halesowen Town 3

Losses in successive matches to the top two sides in the table have left St Neots firmly in the re-election zone of the league table. With just three matches remaining (away at Cambridge City and Corby Town and home to Loughborough) it now seems inevitable that an end-of-season play-off victory over a Step Five club will be St Neots’ only hope of retaining football at Step Four next season. Dereham Town, the side just ahead of them in the table, gave their fading hopes of avoiding the play offs a boost with a convincing 6-0 victory at home to Daventry Town, meaning that St Neots need only a single point from their three remaining matches to avoid automatic relegation. Halesowen meantime are still waiting for Stamford to slip up if they are to achieve automatic promotion. There was never really any doubt about the outcome of this match once the visitors had scored early in the first half, but St Neots never gave up trying and were rewarded with a late consolation goal. With Aaron Smith unavailable and Tommy Boxer injured St Neots left Manny Osei on the bench bringing in Joe Tarpey, Charlie Lewis and Panny Boxer. It was a tightly fought opening spell broken when the visitors scored with their first serious attack after 11 minutes. A quick counterattack down the left saw Jak Hickman round his marker and cross to the far post for Nathan Hayward to beat the diving home keeper to open the scoring. Two minutes later only a brave save by Jonah Gill at the feet of Jamie Insall prevented a further goal, and then Charlie Lewis had to intercept in front of goal after another attack by the visitors.St Neots were riding their luck as a chip over their stranded goalkeeper rebounded from a post but in the last twenty minutes before half time St Neots began to hit back. Trey Charles scythed his way through the visiting defence but sent his effort wide, and the same player then picked up a through ball from JP Duncliffe but again his finish was wayward. Then after 32 minutes and against the run of play a shot from McKauley Manning was pushed up in the air by the St Neots keeper only for the ball to rebound off the bar and into the net off the back of the unfortunate Gill to double the visitors’ lead. Just before the break Dan Barton tried to weave his way through the visiting defence and was pulled down but no free kick awarded.

St Neots frailty upon the restart was again displayed less than three minutes into the second half. The visitors attacked down the left and Simeon Cobourne won his way past two tackles on the bye line before his cross from a narrow angle was deflected into his own net by the unfortunate Charlie Lewis. That setback seemed to boost St Neots determination to compete, and Robbie Mason fired into the side netting from a Liam Hook corner. They then made changes to vary their approach with Joe Rider and Manny Osei replacing Trey Charles and Liam Hook. Visiting keeper Daniel Platt was forced into a full length save to deny the lively Dan Barton but the more positive approach almost cost St Neots dear when they were caught short in defence and Hickman should have extended the visitors lead but after getting a lucky rebound, he shot wildly over an open goal. Albert Adu introduced as St Neots third substitute then sent Callum Anderson away on the left, but Platt saved well. Finally St Neots was to get some late consolation when Joe Rider scored his sixth goal of the season a minute from time after a first effort had rebounded from the foot of a goalpost.

NORTHERN PREMIER LEAGUE – MIDLAND DIVISION

Cambridge City 1 St Neots Town 1

Trey Charles’ 23rd goal of the season a minute from the end of normal time rescued a point for St Neots against neighbours Cambridge City and confirmed their end-ofseason play off place in the Midland Division of the NPL. If they are to be playing at Step Four next season, they must now prepare for a sudden death home play-off match on 29th April against a side (to be confirmed) from Step Five of the National League system. Charles’ contribution to the side cannot be understated because the rest of the squad collectively have only contributed four League goals more than the striker’s personal tally. The Charles goal took him to club fourth equal highest in a season with Ben Mackey, since the club were promoted to Step Four of the National League system. There were just two team changes for this match with Joe Rider and Manny Osei returning to the side in the places of Charles (who started on the bench) and Panny Boxer.

St Neots began well and produced one of their best first half performances of the season. However, the missing factor was their finishing because they should have been at least two or three goals ahead before the home side staged a comeback in the last ten minutes of the half. Restored to the starting line-up, Joe Rider led the way with two chances in the opening four minutes. He first brought a full length save from home keeper Joe Welch with a low shot from fifteen yards, and then, driven wide by a defender he dragged his finish wide of the far post. However, Robbie Mason was the main culprit in squandering the best openings created by the visitors. After 11 minutes he was left unmarked ten yards from goal when Dan Barton left his marker for dead and crossed to find the striker’s head but the effort went wide of goal, and ten minutes later from another Barton cross, Mason sent the ball high over the bar. It was 25 minutes before the home side seriously threatened the St Neots goal and then Mikey Davis headed narrowly wide from a free kick and St Neots created another chance when Manny Osei cut in from the left to set up Liam Hook but his effort was comfortably saved. Then ten minutes before the break Cambridge won a corner headed back from the far post and Scott Bridges pounced to force home from close range to give the host side the lead.

JWMatchReport CAMBRIDGECITY (A)13-04-2023

Shortly after the restart Trey Charles replaced Mason and St Neots resumed their offensive. Charles fired a free kick over the bar but an injured to the lively Dan Barton set them back on their heels. He was replaced by Albert Adu just past the hour and he saw an early effort from distance sail wide. With both sides making tactical changes to their approach the match was being played out largely in midfield and further substitutions by both sides seemed to break up the rhythm of the game. With ten minutes left St Neots seemed to find another gear and Joe Rider had a shot deflected into the side netting before he was set up again by substitute Panny Boxer but home keeper Joe Welch dived bravely at his feet to smother. Then with just one minute of normal time remaining a long clearance by Jonah Gill found Trey Charles free on the right and his angled shot beat the keeper for the equalising goal. It was no more than St Neots deserved but their reward would have been greater but for their shoddy finishing.

St Neots Town: Gill, Duncliffe, Tarpey, Anderson, Lewis, Dickens, Barton, Hook, Mason, Rider, Osei

Subs: Charles (for Mason 55 mins), Adu (for Barton 64 mins), Boxer (P) (for Osei 79 mins), Boxer (T), and Barnett.

NORTHERN PREMIER LEAGUE – MIDLAND DIVISION

Corby Town 4 St Neots Town 0

After two poor results that had almost certainly snuffed out Corby’s diminishing chances of making the end-of-season promotion play-offs, the home side were determined to produce a last home league performance to apologise to their huge following support. This they did in some style scoring four times against an out-ofsorts St Neots side seemingly suffering from a hangover after their hard fought away drawn match against Cambridge City less than 48 hours earlier. The first half was fairly even, but after the break Corby swiftly moved up a gear to conjure up two goals in three minutes to put the outcome out if reach of the visiting side. A tired jaded looking St Neots did rally to make the home keeper produce two outstanding saves that were to deny them a consolation goal. There were team changes of some significance for the visitors., with club skipper Callum Anderson rested on the bench alongside Robbie Mason and Manny Osei. Into their places came Trey Charles, Panny Boxer and Albert Adu.

The home side dominated play in the opening twenty minutes with St Neots only serious attempt on goal coming from an Albert Adu effort that was just wide after good approach play by Joe Tarpey. Corby meantime were creating and missing early openings as Kaylern Thomas crossed to set up Daniel Collins who skied his volley over the bar, and then the lively Jordan O’Brien crashed a shot against the crossbar with the St Neots custodian beaten. The pressure continued as Danny Gordon sent a free kick past a defensive wall and into the wrong side of the goal netting. However, after 22 minutes the relentless pressure paid off when a glorious move the length of the pitch split the St Neots defence as Connor Fury and Matthew Slinn combined to set up Jorden O’Brien for the opening goal. Collins then shot narrowly wide as the home side continued to dictate play and St Neots best response was a shot on the turn from Trey Charles pushed for a corner by the home keeper. St Neots began the second half in defiant fashion with Charles twice going around the outside of his marker to send dangerous crosses across the penalty area but there was no visiting player on hand to take advantage. After 53 minutes Charles was freed up by some clever footwork by Dan Barton, but his angled shot was brilliantly pushed away at full stretch by Tomasz Bukowski in the home goal. Then in a three minutes’ spell around the hour mark the home side really punished some slack defending as they added two goals to effectively put the outcome of the game beyond doubt.

JWMatchReport CORBYTOWN
(A)15-04-2023

The first after 58 minutes came when St Neots cleared a corner only as far as Danny Gordon some 20 yards from goal and he unleashed an unstoppable volley into the top corner of the net giving goalkeeper Jonah Gill no chance. Then in their next serious attack a free kick by Danny Gordon was deflected into the path of Michael Jacklin who was left with a simple finish. After 70 minutes Barton set up Joe Rider who forced the save of the match from Bukowski to deny St Neots a late consolation and despite freshening up their side with substitutions, St Neots were unable to make any impression on the stubborn home defence and returned home with another heavy away defeat to contemplate.

LOUGHBOROUGHDYNAMO

LOUGHBOROUGH DYNAMO FC HISTORY

Loughborough Dynamo FC is a member of the Northern Premier League, playing in the Midlands Division. The club plays at the ADT Stadium in Watermead Lane, Loughborough, Leicestershire.

Dynamo was formed in 1955 by pupils of Loughborough Grammar School. A few years after World War II the school switched from football to rugby. Several pupils wanted to play organised football, so the club was formed in what might say was a secretive manner, including unauthorised meetings in the school library!

The club’s name comes from FC Dynamo Moscow, which had played in the United Kingdom in friendly matches on tours in both 1945 and 1955. The club colours of gold and black come from Wolverhampton Wanderers, who played against Dynamo Moscow at Molineux on November 9th, 1955.

After two seasons of leading a nomadic existence playing away friendly matches, the club ventured into league football in 1957 and found its first home, the old Shelthorpe playing fields in Loughborough (now an 18-hole par 3 golf course). The league was the Loughborough Alliance League. Dynamo entered in Division 3 and quickly rose through the divisions, eventually winning the League. However, Dynamo was prevented from moving into the Leicestershire Senior League due to lack of facilities.

The club switched to the Leicester and District League in 1966, by which time Dynamo had moved across Loughborough to Bottleacre and the old ground of Morris Sports. Dynamo played in this league for five years, moving into the East Midlands League in 1971. However, Dynamo underperformed at this level and saw relegation to the Central Alliance League and almost immediately back to the Leicester and District League.

During this period Dynamo experienced two further moves of ground, enforced by Morris Sports sale of the Bottleacre ground for use as industrial premises. First was back to Shelthorpe, this time to Shelthorpe Primary School, then on to the club’s current home of the Nanpantan Sports Ground (NSG), renamed The ADT Stadium in the Summer of 2018, ADT Taxis being the club’s new ground sponsor. On the Charnwood Forest side of the town and on the edge of Loughborough, the ground had recently been bought by Charnwood District Council from the Brush manufacturing company of Loughborough. The Council own it to this day.

It was at its current home that the club was playing in the Leicestershire Senior League Division 1, but the facilities were not good enough to enable promotion the Premier Division.

The specific requirement was floodlights. It was then that discussions took place between the club and Loughborough University, the education facility was looking to integrate into the local community, and the offer was to develop, with Dynamo, the facilities at the NSG. Also, James Ellis came on board as manager. All this occurred in the early 2000’s and enabled the club to gain promotion to the Premier Division and start its development to where it is today.

The period of James Ellis’s management saw the club stabilise in the Premier Division and then go on a period of success in Leicestershire football circles. The club won the Premier League title, won the Leicestershire Senior Cup and retained it the following season, and also won the League Cup and President’s Cup. Promotion was then achieved to the Midland Football Alliance (MFA). This promotion was also thanks to the massive effort from volunteers to enable the NSG to be ready to stage football at MFA level.

Dynamo stabilised in the MFA, and then came the memorable season of 2007-08 when under the management of Adam Beazeley, assisted by John Folwell and Simon Tebbutt (James Ellis having moved on), the club achieved promotion to the Northern Premier League Division One South.

2010 saw Dynamo lift the Westerby Challenge Cup, the main knockout cup for Leicestershire sides, at the Walkers Stadium, the home of Leicester City. The club had a joint managerial team at this point of Ian Blyth and Scott Clamp, Barwell being the defeated opponents.

Two years later, with the Walkers Stadium now renamed the King Power Stadium and with Scott Clamp as sole manager, Dynamo won the trophy for a second time, defeating Hinckley United from two leagues higher in the non-league pyramid. Tom Brookbanks became Manager in May 2013, and by the start of the 2014-15 season had built an entertaining side, and in September of that season Dynamo topped the division, the highest position in the club’s history. But off fields matters came to a head the following month and the management team and squad was suddenly ripped apart, and the club slid down the table. The following two seasons were not easy on the pitch, finishing 20th in both the 2015-16 and 2016-17 campaigns, one place above the relegation positions. In the latter season the experienced Peter Ward took over as Dynamo’s Manager just after Christmas 2016 and steered the club to its own ‘Great Escape’, winning the last four matches of the season (the first three of those matches being away, two to the other clubs involved in the relegation battle) to finish four points clear of the relegation places.

Under Peter’s Management Dynamo finished the 2017-18 season fifteen points and six places better than a year previously, as well as reaching the Leicestershire Challenge Cup, going down 7-6 on penalties to Premier Division Coalville Town, after the game finished 2-2. Peter felt this was the best time to move on with Peter’s Assistant, former Dynamo player Lee Attenborough, stepping up into the Manager’s post. Lee has previous managerial experience at Leicestershire Senior League Sileby Town and East Midlands Counties League side Ashby Ivanhoe.

Lee’s first season in charge had its ups and downs but a strong finish, in which Dynamo won all of their final six games resulted in Dynamo finishing eighth in the league, only six points off a play-off place.

Seasons 2019-20 & 2020-21 were both cut short and declared ‘null and void’ due to the COVID 19 Pandemic. However when season 2020-21 was declared void Dynamo were sitting in second spot.

A return to a full season in 2021-22 saw Dynamo in the Midlands Division and never really threatening to get amongst the promotion race or be in trouble at the wrong end of the table. Ultimately it was a thirteenth place finish with 45 points. In the FA Cup there was a 3-1 exit at Cleethorpes Town in the Preliminary Round and also in the FA Trophy with 6-3 home defeat to Sporting Khalsa in the Second Qualifying Round.
