A Community of Faith and Vitality

With hearts full of gratitude and hope, we at Saint Meinrad continue to experience the quiet yet profound movement of the Holy Spirit. I often reflect on this grace-filled presence, noting how it renews and sustains our vibrant community of faith. In the daily rhythm of prayer, study, and service, we see the Spirit at work, calling us to live with purpose and vitality in our shared mission.

The vitality of our community is expressed in many ways. Just recently, we welcomed 20 new oblates into our extended Benedictine family. Their promises of stability, fidelity, and obedience echo the enduring values of our monastic tradition and bring fresh energy to our shared mission of seeking God in all things.

We are blessed to accompany six young men who are discerning a vocation to our community. Their presence among us is a sign of hope and renewal, and their courage to explore the Benedictine path of prayer and service is deeply inspiring. In a world often marked by noise and haste, their desire for peace, community, and purpose speaks volumes.

Our cultural events continue to enrich the life of the Archabbey and the wider community. From the stirring performances of the Arete Orchestra and the Saint Meinrad Seminary Choir to the upcoming concerts featuring world-class musicians, these gatherings remind us that beauty and truth are companions on the journey of faith.

We continue to host important conferences, such as the conference on polarization. It is a timely and necessary conversation where, with participants from across the country, we hope to foster an atmosphere of engagement rooted in listening, humility, and hospitality. As St. Benedict reminds us, “Let all guests be received as Christ.” This includes those whose views differ from our own.

Amid these signs of life, we pause to remember and give thanks for the life of Fr. Louis Mulcahy, OSB, who entered eternal life on August 24 at the age of 97. Fr. Louis served faithfully in many roles, from guest master to spiritual director to mail deliverer. His gentle presence and life of service touched countless lives as he remained committed to fostering community within our house. His passing marks the end of a long and fruitful journey, and we commend him to the loving mercy of God.

The longevity and vitality of our monastic community are not measured merely in years, but in the daily rhythm of prayer, work, and study that continues to shape us. Whether we are welcoming guests, forming leaders for the Catholic Church, offering a meal, or praying the Divine Office, we strive to live the Gospel with integrity and joy.

In all these things, we are reminded that faith is not static but alive, growing, and always inviting us deeper. Thank you for being part of this journey with us. Your prayers, friendship, and support sustain us daily. Know that you always have our prayers. F

In Service to a Diverse Church

As another academic year is underway on the Hill, I am reminded of the many ways you, our friends and benefactors, enable Saint Meinrad to continue serving the Church, especially in its growing diversity. Our mission remains rooted in forming leaders who can meet the pastoral needs of today’s Church with wisdom, compassion, and cultural sensitivity.

One of the most vibrant signs of this mission is the integrated and expanding Hispanic ministry at Saint Meinrad. Through our Office of Hispanic and Latino Ministry, seminarians, deacons, and lay leaders are receiving formation that is both culturally responsive and spiritually enriching. From Sunday catechesis and youth retreats to Spanish-language workshops and community events, this ministry is not only growing; it is flourishing.

We are proud to have recently hosted a summit on Hispanic ministry with partnering dioceses, where we explored and discussed best practices and shared challenges in serving Hispanic communities. It is our hope that this symposium will foster deeper partnerships and more effective pastoral outreach.

Our international students continue to enrich our seminary community. With seminarians from over a dozen countries, we are reminded daily that the Church is truly universal. Their presence challenges us to think globally, pray broadly, and minister with hearts open to all cultures.

Enrollment in our various programs remains very strong. This fall, we are blessed to be forming and educating 114 seminarians, more than 60 graduate theology students, and nearly 200 candidates for the permanent diaconate. These numbers are a testament to the ongoing work of the Holy Spirit, calling men and women from all walks of life to serve the Church and the world. This continued good news only deepens our commitment to providing formation and education of the highest caliber.

We also celebrate the increasing number of priests served through our Institute for Priests and Presbyterates, especially those participating in sabbatical programs. These priests come seeking renewal, rest, and deeper formation, leaving Saint Meinrad refreshed and ready to serve their communities with renewed vigor.

In all these efforts, we strive to embody the Benedictine values of hospitality, prayer, and service. We are honored to walk with the Church in its diversity, and we remain committed to forming leaders who can serve with both theological depth and pastoral heart.

Thank you for your continued prayers and support. May God bless you and all those you serve. F

Sharing their Faith Jacob & Katie Kraft

“‘One Bread, One Cup’ was one of the most lifechanging moments for me, and it changed the way that I thought about my faith completely,” says Jacob Kraft. Jacob and his wife, Katie, have been connected with Saint Meinrad since coming to OBOC conferences in their youth. OBOC summer conferences at Saint Meinrad are liturgical leadership conferences for high school youth, that focus on Word, Sacrament, and Mission of the Roman Catholic Church.

As participants, both Jacob and Katie grew in their faith, and now they want to help Saint Meinrad continue to share that experience with generations to come. By giving to Saint Meinrad, they are partners

in faith and help continue the mission of the Church to support others in their faith journey.

The Krafts, along with their five children, reside in Floyds Knobs, IN, where Katie works as a music educator, owns a voice studio where she teaches voice lessons, cantors at Church, and started an elementary choir at their kids’ school, while Jacob works with the family business, helping people through the funeral process.

They love family time and make it a point to eat dinner together every night. Daily routines as well as prayer offer steadiness and intentional rhythm for their family. This practice of stability in their daily

schedule is something they learned from the monks during their time at Saint Meinrad and is something they are able to practice as a family. The Krafts also spend time playing outside, going for walks and hikes, and traveling. Being together as a family is central to their values.

Jacob and Katie met at their parish, Holy Family, in fifth grade and have continued as parishioners with their family to this day. In eighth grade, their youth minister took their class to Saint Meinrad for a field trip, sparking an interest in the Holy Hill at a young age.

Jacob attended OBOC the summer after his freshman year of high school on scholarship through the Marian Guild at Holy Family. His faith-filled experience drove him to attend OBOC the following three summers as well.

Being a musician, Katie also attended OBOC and was able to expand her musical talents and learn more about chant in the Church. Her experience at Saint Meinrad inspired her siblings to attend conferences as well, and her mom also became a youth minister for OBOC for a few years. Katie’s sister’s faith grew from the OBOC experience and led her to becoming a sister of St. Francis of Perpetual Adoration in Mishawaka, IN.

Katie stated that she was, “Overwhelmed by the beauty of Saint Meinrad, because it feels like a different place and it is still shocking that it exists in Indiana. It felt like a real blessing to be there and to be experiencing the beauty and peace that surrounds the whole grounds.”

Jacob would return to Saint Meinrad as a college intern for OBOC for three years, being conference

Jacob & Katie Kraft

director his final year. He was also a member of the Youth Formation Advisory Board and his dedication to Saint Meinrad led him to serve on the Board of Overseers for the Seminary and School of Theology from 2016-2022.

The Kraft family supports Saint Meinrad by giving of their time and money and finds that it is valuable to invest in things that are important to them. OBOC played a large part in forming them into the faithful people they are today, so it is important to them to be able to support Saint Meinrad’s mission and help others follow a similar path.

When asked what advice they would give to future generations about giving back, Jacob and Katie expressed that if we want the things that we care about to continue and thrive, we have to support them. Oftentimes, people take things for granted, but most things take a lot of energy, effort, and money to continue. The Krafts look up to the people who made “One Bread, One Cup” possible for them and want to continue to make that possible for others. F

“‘One Bread, One Cup’ was one of the most life-changing moments for me, and it changed the way that I thought about my faith completely.”
—Jacob Kraft

Abbot Martin Marty Guild

The Abbot Martin Marty Guild has seen tremendous growth, both in the number of members and in their generosity, since it was established in 1992.

Members are listed in this publication within the following levels of annual giving:

AMMG Spires $10,000 or More

AMMG Pillar $5,000 - $9,999

AMMG Archway $2,500 - $4,999

AMMG Sandstone $1,000 - $2,499

This donor recognition society is named after Saint Meinrad’s first abbot, Martin Marty, OSB. At age 26, Fr. Martin was sent to Saint Meinrad from the motherhouse, the Abbey of Einsiedeln in Switzerland. Fr. Martin could hardly have imagined more dire circumstances than those he found when he arrived in southern Indiana in 1860.

The struggling community had faced myriad problems since its founding six years earlier: mounting financial debt, illness and disease, overcrowding in the tiny cabin, the deaths of several monks, severe heat and drought that led to crop

failure, and dissension among the leadership. As the United States neared the outbreak of the Civil War, it looked as if Saint Meinrad might close.

Through prayer, hard work, and Fr. Martin’s strong leadership, the community gained a steadier economic and spiritual footing. In addition to his guidance in reducing the debt and building up the community, Fr. Martin devoted time to teaching, helping in parishes, and conducting retreats and other pastoral work.

Within a decade of Fr. Martin’s arrival, the health of the fledgling community had been restored to the point that it was made an independent abbey in 1870, with Fr. Martin named as the first abbot.

Members of the Abbot Martin Marty Guild:

• Are recognized as leaders in supporting the prayer and work of Saint Meinrad.

• Are invited to an annual Day of Recollection held at Saint Meinrad.

• Are included in the annual listing of donors. (Members may request to remain anonymous.)

• Are remembered daily in prayer by the monks of Saint Meinrad.

Benefactors are especially remembered as the monastic community gathers for Vespers on the annual Day of Recollection.

First-time members also receive a special medallion, mounted on a base engraved with their name, which symbolizes their membership in the Abbot Martin Marty Guild.

Some examples of the programs that Guild members help make possible are:

• Classroom instruction

• Spiritual formation

• Retreats

• Wellness activities

• Counseling center

• Guest lectures

• Ministry opportunities

• Workshops and conferences

• Vocations promotion and recruitment

• Health services for students and monks

• Upkeep of the buildings and grounds

• New books and other resources for the library

• Continuing education and professional development for our faculty

• And more....

All of these directly benefit our students and our monastic community. F

Membership list as of September 1, 2025. Thank You for being a generous partner in our work.

The Einsiedeln Society

The Einsiedeln Society honors those generous benefactors who have chosen to support Saint Meinrad in their charitable gift planning by making a planned gift. Daily, the monks remember the Society’s members in prayer, particularly on July 16, the Marian Feast Day of the Solemnity of Our Lady of Einsiedeln, the patroness of the Archabbey Church.

Membership is extended to donors who have demonstrated a special commitment by:

•Including Saint Meinrad in their will,

•Establishing a deferred gift such as a trust, charitable gift annuity, life insurance policy, or retirement plan designation, or

•Making an outright or cumulative gift of $10,000 or more for a specific endowment purpose.

Donors may also create a named endowment in honor or memory of someone meaningful to them, helping to build a lasting legacy for Saint Meinrad’s mission.

Planned gifts are more than financial decisions— they are statements of faith, hope, and generosity that live on for generations. By including a gift in your estate plans or charitable gift plan today, you can provide lasting support for the mission you love while also caring for your family and future needs. Whether your gift is simple or more structured, each one tells a story of commitment and compassion. The descriptions below offer a glimpse of some of the most meaningful ways to leave your legacy.

Simple Planned Gifts

•Bequest in a Will or Trust

-Name Saint Meinrad as a beneficiary with a set amount, percentage, or specific asset

•Beneficiary Designation

-Name us as a beneficiary of your retirement plan, life insurance, or bank account

•Gift of Retirement Assets

-Direct all or part of an IRA or 401(k) to charity, either now (if eligible) or later

-Make a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD)

•Life Insurance Gift

-Name Saint Meinrad as a beneficiary

Multifaceted Planned Gifts

•Charitable Gift Annuity (CGA)

- Make a gift in exchange for fixed income for life

•Charitable Remainder Trust

-The Trust pays income to you/others for life or term; the remainder goes to a beneficiary

•Retained Life Estate

-Deed your home/farm to a beneficiary now but keep the right to live there for life.

Your consideration of one or more of these giving options represents a meaningful investment in the future of Saint Meinrad. Through your partnership, you will help shape the lives of countless individuals for generations to come. A member of the Planned Giving Office would be happy to work with you in your charitable gift planning to identify the giving approach that best aligns with your personal needs, timing, and goals.

We sincerely thank you for your ongoing commitment and the vital role you play in the success of Saint Meinrad Archabbey and Seminary & School of Theology. It is through the generous stewardship of gifts and assets from friends like you that Saint Meinrad’s essential missions of prayer, work, and leadership formation continue to flourish. F

You are all wise and merciful. We humbly beseech your mercy on behalf of our friends, relatives and benefactors who have passed from this world, especially deceased members of The Einsiedeln Society.

Through the intercession of our Blessed Mother, St. Meinrad, and St. Benedict, may they enjoy eternal peace and happiness with You. We ask this through Our Lord, Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with You in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God forever and ever. Amen.

The Collective Endowment

BUILDING A STRONG FOUNDATION FOR OUR MISSION AND MINISTRIES

Saint Meinrad’s collective endowment is composed of many individual funds, each created with a specific purpose in mind. Some support essential needs such as monastic healthcare, Benedictine education, and the care of our monastery’s buildings and grounds. Others are dedicated to the Seminary and School of Theology, providing resources for student financial assistance, spiritual formation, continuing education, young adult programs, and special learning opportunities. Some endowments are individually named in honor of families or loved ones. Other endowments are classified as general support endowments that are named by the general category of what they support. The chart on page 27 shows how the collectively invested set of endowments is distributed by the area or purpose it serve.

For nearly 40 years, hundreds of alumni, friends, and benefactors of Saint Meinrad have generously established and contributed to these endowments through their personal charitable planning. Their support champions the vital role these

endowments play in sustaining and expanding Saint Meinrad’s ministries—ensuring a lasting impact on the community and the Church for generations to come.

Endowments play a vital role in ensuring the longterm financial health of Saint Meinrad. Thanks to the vision and guidance of the Saint Meinrad Trustees, the Seminary and School of Theology Board of Overseers, and the Endowment Advisory Board, through God’s abundant blessings and the unwavering generosity of alumni, friends, and benefactors, the total value of Saint Meinrad’s endowments has grown from $8 million in 1987 to an impressive $89.5 million as of June 30, 2025.

This extraordinary achievement is a testament to the faith and commitment of loyal donors like you. The monastic community, co-workers, and students offer a heartfelt thanks—first to God, and then to you, whose generosity and belief in Saint Meinrad’s mission and ministries have made this growth possible.

26 - Endowment of Saint Meinrad

Endowment Growth

For the fiscal year ending June 30, 2025, the endowment produced an overall return of 10.6%. Annualized investment returns for the past one-, three-, and five-year periods are shown below. Distributions from our endowments are essential to the mission of Saint Meinrad.

During the past year, three new endowments were established through the generosity of our friends and alumni. These endowments will provide lasting support for the infirmary, continuing education, and cultural events.

We are profoundly grateful for these, and for all our endowments. They are a living testament to the commitment of our benefactors, ensuring that our life of prayer and work will continue to flourish for generations.

Ways to Establish or Support an Endowment

Contributing to an endowment is simple, yet deeply meaningful. You can make a gift during your lifetime or include Saint Meinrad in your estate plans. Whether through cash, securities, or other assets, your gift can create a new endowment or strengthen an existing one. Moreover, specific endowment funds may be established to honor the memory of monks, parents, children, spouses, or other loved ones. With one generous act today, you can ensure lasting support for the values you hold dear—blessing future generations for generations to come.

Your Role in Our Success

Your membership in The Einsiedeln Society is greatly appreciated. Please share your feelings about Saint Meinrad with friends and acquaintances. You are the best means of expanding the Saint Meinrad family. F

You are the best means of expanding the Saint Meinrad family.

Individual Endowment Funds

The following pages recognize the individual endowment funds generously established by dedicated supporters of Saint Meinrad Archabbey and Seminary & School of Theology. While the size of each fund may differ, all were created with foresight and a shared commitment to ensuring the future of Saint Meinrad’s mission. We are profoundly grateful to our alumni and benefactors, whose generosity continues to build a lasting foundation for Saint Meinrad’s service to the Church for generations to come. New funds established in the past year are indicated in bold.
