My association with Saint Ignatius’ College now spans just over fifty years. I commenced that association in 1970 as a student at the Junior School and for the past twenty-eight years I have been a member of staff and fortunate to serve in a variety of roles. I’d like to think that I know our community well. One essential belief that I’ve always known to be true is that ‘we here today, build on the work of those who have gone before us.’ Our College Foundation certainly operates with this as a guiding principle and their work outlined in this Impact Report seeks to provide evidence of this fact. The College Foundation works within our community and beyond to raise funds for the development of College resources and for the provision of bursaries to those who may, without such assistance, not be able to avail themselves of an Ignatian education. Both goals are worthy and desirable and help us grow as a Catholic school in the Ignatian tradition.
Dearest Lord, Teach me to be generous, Teach me to serve You as You deserve, To give and not to count the cost, To fight and not to heed the wounds, To toil and not to seek for rest, To labour and not to ask for reward, Save that of knowing I do Your holy will.
I take this opportunity to thank Mrs Susan Dodson for her generous and committed leadership as Chair of the Foundation Board, and all Board members, for their service. I’m also grateful to Mrs Belinda Mears, Advancement Manager, and all in her team for their work in supporting our College Foundation. I hope you find this report interesting, informative, and inspiring. Deo Gloria Peter Coffey Principal
HISTORY OF THE FOUNDATION BOARD The Saint’ Ignatius College Foundation Board was established in 1989 with a focus of raising funds for the advancement of the College’s capital works building programs and Foundation Bursary Education fund. However, the philanthropic journey for the College commenced decades ago. The construction of the Senior School was made possible due to the generosity of two brothers, James Patrick Ryan and Robert Thomas Ryan, and their cousin, Mrs Catherine Atkinson. This legacy is a wonderful reminder we have all benefited from those who have come before us and giving is at heart of the greater good. The Building Program The College Foundation has overseen the fundraising for major capital works projects across the campuses, including the Mary MacKillop Library and Tuckshop redevelopment at the Junior School, the Campion Building, Chapel of the Holy Name, Richard Flynn Theatre, Caroline Chisholm Building at the Senior School, and the Mary Glowrey Centre at Norwood.
Foundation Board members: Susan Dodson (Chair), Cecilia White, Richard Scollin, Michael Ryan, David Prescott (Deputy Chair), John Kavanagh, Jon Davis and Stella Waugh Absent - Fr Peter Hosking SJ
College Bursary Fund The Foundation oversee the fundraising for the Bursary Program and acquit funds to the College annually. The allocation of funds to recipients is independent of the Foundation Board are overseen by the College and their Bursary Committee. The Foundation Board act as caretakers for several specific bursaries, where our donors request their donations be directed to fulfill their philanthropic mission. This includes The Ignatian Early Years, Indigenous Bursary, Commencement Bursary, Roma Flynn Bursary which was founded on a bequest to the College, which is specifically awarded for (music and art), and Bento deGoes Bursary which supports 100% of the costs of schooling and are directed to Refugee students and First People Students.
Our children and grandchildren have benefited greatly from their Ignatian education at Saint Ignatius’ College. We derive great joy knowing that our contribution will afford more children the same opportunity. Diana and Graham Andersen – Past parents – Donors, 27 years

CHAIR OF FOUNDATION REPORT Generosity is in the College’s DNA. It has supported the lives of students and their families for many years. The supporters of the Saint Ignatius’ College Foundation have many reasons for giving, however, I believe the common bond within the community is our support for each other and a collective vision of a future of strength for the College. During 2021 the Foundation publicly promoted the completion of the Mary Glowrey Centre’s final stages while still navigating the constant challenges of COVID-19. With the ongoing support from our community and the financial management of the Foundation’s investments during 2021, has resulted in the Foundation remaining strong and valid in our ambitions to provide the gift of opportunity and education to many future families. Shortly, a feasibility study will be undertaken to ensure future facilities at the College are undertaken responsibly and which align with community expectations. The Foundation’s commitment to continue to support the College’s Building Projects will again commence with the new Art, Design and Technology build at the Senior School. We very much look forward to promoting this project to you and how best you think you are able to support it. Susan Dodson Chair of Foundation
In 2018 our daughter came home from Jarrumwani a different person, which in turn changed our family. Finding words evokes deep emotion, we felt a shift of spirit, good spirit. Determined to seek meaningful ways to strengthen our daughter’s experience, we commenced being a host family in 2019 and the journey so far has been rich and remarkably rewarding. As parents and co educators, role modelling men and women for others, living with integrity and choosing opportunity over safe pathways is at the heart of this journey. Our family’s cup is full, saying yes to this experience has been one of life’s greatest gifts. Whatever yes looks like for you, big or small, know it makes a meaningful impact in the lives of children and their families. Brigid and Simon Hay - parents, lifelong supporters
