Empowering Futures

Bursary Fund Ignatian
At Saint Ignatius’ College, Adelaide, we strive to honour the Jesuit tradition of providing an Ignatian education to students from all walks of life.

Empowering futures through education

Inspired by the vision of our founder, Saint Ignatius, we are dedicated to ensuring that financial circumstances do not hinder deserving families from accessing a Catholic education rooted in our shared values.

To assist our commitment to accessibility and inclusivity, we have established the Ignatian Bursary Fund. This fund enables us to offer financial assistance to families who, due to their current financial situation, face challenges in pursuing a Catholic education in the Ignatian tradition through the conventional application process.

Impact

In 2019, Year 12 student, Tanya Orsto left her family on Bathurst Island to pursue broader educational opportunities in Year 7 at Saint Ignatius’ College Adelaide. Welcomed by her host family, she found comfort in a quiet hills suburb of Adelaide.

Through her journey, Tanya has grown in independence and academic freedom, cherishing the connection she maintains with her Indigenous roots and the Ignatian community.

Tanya is pursuing a career in childcare. With the support of mentors and teachers at the College, Tanya will return to Bathurst Island after completing her studies with the skills and qualifications that will allow her to make a difference in the lives of young children. Her aim is to bring back valuable knowledge to enrich the lives of her family and community.

Tanya’s story was made possible through the Ignatian Bursary Fund.

“I will always remember the day I was informed that I would be granted a scholarship to attend the College. Being from a refugee family with no material and very low income, it was a life changing event for me. Now that I am in a position to put something back into the community, with the support of my wife, we donate to several not-for-profit organisations including being a donor to the College.”

Criteria for receiving a bursary

The primary criterion for receiving support from the Ignatian Bursary Fund is a demonstrable, means-tested inability to afford the fees at Saint Ignatius College. Additionally, we also give consideration to families from refugee and/or indigenous backgrounds, as we believe in fostering diversity and embracing the richness of different cultures within our community.

To ensure fairness, confidentiality, and compassion in the distribution of Ignatian Bursary Fund monies, we diligently assess each case on its individual merits. In cases where appropriate, the Rector and Principal exercise discretionary powers to apply financial assistance. Timely submission of the application with all relevant documentation, including financial records, is crucial for our assessment process. Please note that bursaries are reviewed on an annual basis to ensure the continued support of deserving families.

How you can support the Ignatian Bursary Fund

We humbly reach out to members of our community who believe in the power of education, to consider making a contribution to the Ignatian Bursary Fund. Any donation, large or small, is gratefully received. By doing so, you can help us extend the gift of an Ignatian education to those who would otherwise be unable to experience it. Your generosity will have a lasting and transformative impact on the lives of deserving students and their families.

Support of the Ignatian Bursary Fund will not only provide financial aid but also empower young minds, nurture their spiritual growth, and equip them with the values and skills necessary to positively impact our world. Together, we can build a community where every student, regardless of their financial circumstances, can thrive and fulfill their potential.

We acknowledge with gratitude those donors who have supported the Ignatian Bursary Program since the beginning of the College in 1951. Their funding and the future support we hope to receive will continue to provide opportunities to deserving young people who dream of making the world brighter.
