Financial FOCUS Should You Stick With Index-Based Investments?
You may have heard that you can simplify your investment strategy just by owning index-based or passive investments. But is this a good idea? You’ll want to consider the different aspects of this type of investment style.
To begin with, an index-based investment is a vehicle such as a mutual fund or an exchange-traded fund (ETF) that mimics the performance of a market benchmark, or index — the Dow Jones Industrial Average, the S&P 500, and so on. (An ETF is similar to a mutual fund in that it holds a variety of investments but differs in that it is traded like a common stock.) You can also invest in index funds that track the bond market.
Index investing does offer some benefits. Most notably, it’s a buy-and-hold strategy, which is typically more effective than a market-timing approach, in which individuals try to buy investments when their prices are down and sell them when the prices rise. Attempts to time the market this way are usually futile because nobody can really predict when high and low points will be reached. Plus, the very act of constantly buying and selling investments can generate commissions and fees, which can lower your overall rate of return. Thus, index investing generally involves lower fees and is considered more tax efficient than a more active investing style.
Also, when the financial markets are soaring, which happened for several years until this year’s downturn, index-based investments can certainly look pretty good — after all, when the major indexes go up, index funds will do the same.
Conversely, during a correction, when the market drops at least 10% from recent highs, or during a bear market, when prices fall 20% or more, index-based investments will likely follow the same downward path.
And there are also other issues to consider with index-based investments. For one thing, if you’re investing with the objective of matching an index, you may be overlooking the key factors that should be driving your investment decisions — your goals and your risk tolerance. An index is a completely impersonal benchmark measuring the performance of a specific set of investments — but it can’t be a measuring stick of your own progress.
Furthermore, a single index, by definition, can’t be as diversified as the type of portfolio you might need to achieve your objectives. For example, the S&P 500 may track a lot of companies, but they’re predominantly large ones. And to achieve your objectives, you may need a portfolio consisting of large- and small-company stocks, bonds, government securities and other investments. (Keep in mind, though, that while diversification can give you more opportunities for success and can reduce the effects of
volatility on your portfolio, it can’t guarantee profits or prevent all losses.)
Ultimately, diversifying across different types of investments that align with your risk tolerance and goals — regardless of whether they track an index — is the most important consideration for your investment portfolio. Use this idea as your guiding principle as you journey through the investment world.
September 3 is recognized as National Tailgating Day!
Of course it is said that the first tailgate party of the world was started by the Romans. Before and after chariot races between the intervals the audience and participants used to enjoy a break in leisure by eating a meal or doing other refreshing activities.
It was not until 1861 where modern tailgating was practiced. During the Battle of Bull Run, the supporters of the US Union Army showed up with food and drinks to encourage soldiers and also to show solidarity and boost their morale.
When American football was introduced, tailgating became extremely popular. People were not only tailgating before the game, they would tailgate after the game and during breaks. Over time tailgating was associated with most American sporting events.
Tailgating is also not anything of the past as some surveys report that a majority of the US population still tailgates especially the American football fans. And when it comes to American football, how can we forget Texas and that's why the Reliant stadium in Texas is considered as the best spot for tailgating.
And the football fans are so crazy about tailgating that they often arrive a few hours early to get hyped up about the game and enjoy a meal in the back of a pickup truck or mostly in the trunk of their cars organizing tailgate parties with their family or friends. And in this way it is a very lovely moment to share with your loved ones also.
Tailgating also gives a chance to enjoy a game of football even with more enthusiasm while eating a delicious meal before cheering up for your team. During tailgating you also get to practice many famous traditions such as grilling and preparing many tasty dishes through it. Along with eating it also gives us a moment to enjoy with our friends or family while playing many games or doing challenges during it.
There are many games and activities that you can do while tailgating. So plan some fun activities while tailgating. There are many games you can play at a tailgate. The most famous ones are beer pong, cornhole, and ladder ball and along with these games you can do many challenges on food eating or making also.
Now what you are waiting for, pack your favorite food and beverages, join with your friends, and head over to the decided tailgate meeting point. Check you have all of your grilling accessories and make sure that you have everything for a successful tailgate party so the fun can't get spoiled.
September is the kickoff season for football in both NFL and college. Preseason for the NFL starts on August 18th, however the official first game is on September 8, 2022 Bills vs Rams.
Tailgating has definitely been amped up over the years. Some go to the extremes to have the best tailgate party! It is not just the party, it’s all that goes into it that makes tailgating so much fun. Going all out on team decor, games and drinks is what turns a good tailgate up a notch. The season is quickly approaching, are you going to be a part of the tailgating crew?

DIY FALL APPLE FACIAL
The peel of an apple is rich in vitamins and minerals. It contains polyphenols, an antioxidant that helps protect against ultraviolet radiation and leads to younger looking skin. Apple peels are also rich in vitamin C, which prevents premature aging, and enhances skin glow.
Honey is one of nature's most revered skin remedies. Thanks to its antibacterial and antiseptic abilities, it may benefit oily and acneprone skin. Honey is also a natural humectant, so it helps keep the skin moist but not oily. This is because humectants draw moisture from the skin without replacing it.

SEPTEMBER
September 10 - Full Moon.
The Moon will be located on the opposite side of the Earth as the Sun and its face will be fully illuminated. This phase occurs at 09:58 UTC. This full moon was known by early Native American tribes as the Corn Moon because the corn is harvested around this time of year. This moon is also known as the Harvest Moon. The Harvest Moon is the full moon that occurs closest to the September equinox each year.
September 16 - Neptune at Opposition.
The blue giant planet will be at its closest approach to Earth and its face will be fully illuminated by the Sun. It will be brighter than any other time of the year and will be visible all night long. This is the best time to view and photograph Neptune. Due to its extreme distance from Earth, it will only appear as a tiny blue dot in all but the most powerful telescopes.
September 23 - September Equinox.
The September equinox occurs at 00:55 UTC. The Sun will shine directly on the equator and there will be nearly equal amounts of day and night throughout the world.
This is also the first day of fall (autumnal equinox) in the Northern Hemisphere and the first day of spring (vernal equinox) in the Southern Hemisphere.
September 25 - New Moon.
The Moon will be located on the same side of the Earth as the Sun and will not be visible in the night sky. This phase occurs at 21:55 UTC. This is the best time of the month to observe faint objects such as galaxies and star clusters because there is no moonlight to interfere.
September 26 - Jupiter at Opposition.
The giant planet will be at its closest approach to Earth and its face will be fully illuminated by the Sun. It will be brighter than any other time of the year and will be visible all night long. This is the best time to view and photograph Jupiter and its moons. A medium-sized telescope should be able to show you some of the details in Jupiter's cloud bands. A good pair of binoculars should allow you to see Jupiter's four largest moons, appearing as bright dots on either side of the planet.
Self–Care Awareness Month
Self–Care
Awareness Month in September is a time to remind us that taking care of ourselves, first and foremost, is essential. Self-care is often neglected in our everyday lives. We all tend to put others’ needs before our own and it is crucial to remember, that we cannot fill another’s cup from our own empty vessel. While getting a massage or taking a walk are beautiful examples of taking time for our well-being, self-care can be more expansive than that.
Sometimes you need to put yourself first in order to be the best version of yourself for others. September is the perfect month to practice prioritizing some “me” time, because it’s National Self-Care Awareness Month. While it’s easy to get wrapped up in checking in on others, it’s important for your mental health to practice self-care. Check out these ways to promote self-care in your life, so you can walk away feeling refreshed and ready to do more good in the world.
1.
Set Goals for Yourself
Rome wasn’t built in a day, and healthy self-care habits follow suit. Find something that makes you happy, and start by setting a small goal of doing that activity every day. This could be something as simple as reading a book for 15 minutes or taking a walk around the block. Remember that a small goal can make a big difference in your life. These things add up.
2.
Try Meditating
Life can be noisy. Many people go an entire day without complete silence. From radios in the car to kids running around, there is constantly noise to distract our thoughts. Take time to center yourself through meditation. There are many apps out there you can download to your phone to help guide your meditation journey. Plus, you can meditate by using just minutes of your day. This is a fast and easy way to focus on yourself.
3. Check on a Friend
It’s easy to lose touch with friends in our lives, especially with something as crazy as a global pandemic happening. Think back—when was the last time you called somebody simply to
catch up? Pick a friend you may be missing, and then pick up the phone to give them a call. It can be good for you AND them to have a touch base.
4. Do Something Good for Others
Yes, self-care awareness month is about your mental health. But did you know that doing something good for others can help boost endorphins? Even the smallest acts of kindness can provide a boost to your day. Try one of these small things to brighten somebody else’s day, and your day at the same time:
• Write a note of appreciation for a coworker.
• Pay for the person behind you next time you’re in a drive-thru.
• Bake something and share.
• Do a chore somebody else has been putting off.
• Pick up litter in your community.
• Donate to your favorite organization.
5. Practice Saying No
The word ‘no’ often gets a bad rap, but it could be vital for your mental health. Instead of devoting yourself to five separate projects where you’re stretched too thin, go all-in on the project that brings you the most joy and excitement. Everybody needs a break, and you should actively consider whether or not taking on something new or attending an event will be good for your health and well-being.
If nothing else, remember these things as you focus on yourself. It’s better to start small and be consistent with your self-care habits, building them over time. This ensures you stick to it. And make sure to set aside time to focus on you, so that you can be the best version of yourself out in the world! Just because it’s called “self-care” doesn’t mean you can’t help others in the process. And last but not least, it’s okay to say “no” when you aren’t able to be fully “present” in a project or at an event. Now take these tips and start practicing!
SEPTEMBER RECIPES
Creamy Cucumber Salad
• 2 English cucumbers
½ medium red onion-finely sliced
• ¾ teaspoon salt
• ½ cup sour cream
¼ cup mayonnaise
• 2 tablespoons white wine vinegar
⅓ cup chopped fresh dill
• ¾ teaspoon sugar
• ½ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
Cut the cucumbers in half and then slice each half down the middle lengthwise.
Use the tip of a teaspoon to scoop out the center seeds. Cut each half into thin slices and place in a colander along with the red onion slices. Toss with the salt and let sit in the sink for at least 30 minutes, until the water drains out.
Meanwhile, make the dressing: In a medium bowl, combine the sour cream, mayonnaise, white wine vinegar, dill, sugar, and black pepper and mix well.
When the cucumbers and onions are ready, release any excess water by tapping the colander several times on the base of the sink, then use a large wad of paper towels or clean dish towel to pat the vegetables dry. Add the vegetables to the dressing and toss well. Cover and chill until ready to serve.

Entrada Del Pueblo: Rancho Sahuarita Continues Growth with Another New Neighborhood Coming Soon
Homes in Entrada Del Pueblo, the next part of Rancho Sahuarita’s newest phases of growth and development in the master planned community, will be made available to homebuyers beginning later this fall. A variety of new homes will be available from five different community builders, who together have over 500 lots.
Located south of Sahuarita Rd. on both sides of Rancho Sahuarita Blvd., Entrada Del Pueblo is situated south of Entrada La Coraza, which opened for new home sales in April of 2022. Homes from Lennar and Centex, along with Meritage Homes and Richmond American Homes will be the first available. The first homes are slated to be ready for presale to buyers beginning in the fall of 2022, with grand openings happening throughout the remainder of the year. Voters Asked to Vote YES on SUSD Overrides this November
This November, local voters will be asked to support Proposition 492, for the renewal of a District Additional Assistance (DAA) Override, and Proposition 493, a Maintenance and Operations (M&O) Override. Both budget overrides are a continuation of the existing overrides already in place, and will not increase the tax rate.
Proposition 492, the District Additional Assistance (DAA) Override (also known as a Capital Override), is a budget measure which helps pay for critical instructional and student materials, furniture, transportation, technology, and improvements to existing facilities, which cannot be covered by the state allocated district capital budget or bond proceeds. This override authorization is reaching expiration, and must be renewed by voter approval to continue.
Proposition 493, the Maintenance and Operations (M&O) Override, funds valuable programs and services for the district, the costs of which are not fully covered by the state. According to the district, over 100 staff positions are funded from this measure, including teachers, athletics, NJROTC, security, counselors, career and technical education, instructional aides and more.
The override requires voter approval every 5 years, as Arizona law only allows school districts to receive approval from voters for up to 5 years before the override begins to phase out. Voters have continuously supported the SUSD M&O override since 2004. Without approval and reauthorization of the override by voters in November, many of these crucial positions and the programs they allow for risk being cut.
If the overrides are renewed in November by voters, the district expects that there will be no new increase in taxes. For 2023, it is anticipated that the overall school district tax rate will decrease.
Sahuarita Unified School District Superintendent, Dr. Manuel Valenzuela, commented: “Our success in delivering a truly excellent education for every student is directly correlated with our shared commitment to providing excellent learning programs. The community's historical investments in the
M&O and DAA overrides have targeted outstanding programs that define a well-rounded education. They include K-12 fine arts, band, orchestra, and dance, K-12 physical education, K-12 counselors in every school, instructional support staff, middle and high school athletics programs, NJROTC, Career and Technical Education (CTE), smaller class sizes, and security monitors. Similarly, they support the facilities, capital equipment, and technology that are necessary inputs to advancing this vision of excellence.
Dr. Valenzuela continued, “This is not a new tax. It is a continuation of a current local investment in our schools. And, through careful budget management, financing, and local growth, these strong programs are possible with a school tax rate that will still go down this year."
