Here we are in March already, with the year racing ahead faster than many could imagine. Whilst it felt like many people in the industry didn't come back until after Australia Day, the SafeAssure team has been flat out from early January supporting clients to ensure they commenced the year safely.
Not only are we forecasting 2024 to be a big year for growth and expansion, we are also very excited about, and looking forward to, celebrating our 10th year in business SafeAssure was established back in September 2014 and started from humble beginnings with just myself and my laptop. It is with great pride and a sense of achievement that we are at this milestone of achieving 10 years
We have grown into a team of almost 12 full time equivalents, which makes up our internal team of eight; four regular contractors; and other ad hoc contractors I couldn't be happier with where the business is positioned, ensuring we capitalise on significant opportunities that are currently being presented to us We are winning work through our existing relationships, client referrals, repeat work, public tenders and through our excellent reputation in the marketplace.
Like all businesses, as we continue to grow, there are always struggles and the expected ups and downs. However, we have an outstanding team and an excellent culture which ensures that we are willing to have the tough conversations and work together to find resolutions This applies not just internally, but particularly when providing guidance to clients on best practices. As many of you may have seen from my recently posted videos on our social media platforms, one of our core values is ‘Grounded in Principles’ and it's important for our clients to know that this is fundamental to our team when providing advice.
As challenging as it may sometimes be, our clients can feel confident in knowing that they are not going to receive guidance that is purely the most convenient or agreeable, but rather, what will be the most appropriate advice for their situation Follow up from difficult advice is a vital part of the process in supporting clients to find the right solution and something that I instil in our team. There is no point in identifying problems if, under the correct engagement, we don't provide the necessary guidance or support in assisting the client in finding the solution. Obviously, this isn't the case when work is as an independent auditor, but in many circumstances at the end of the day we are there to ensure works are carried out safely
To ensure the best service to our clients and to the industry, we continue to improve our back of house services and forward-facing strategies Part of this ongoing development includes increasing our information sharing through email and social platforms. We endeavour to simplify legislative requirements to ensure that employers and workers can interpret the information provided and apply it within their workplace. If there are any topics or agendas that you'd like us to address, please contact me directly or leave comments or suggestions on our social media posts and we will work on a new post or series to cover the topic
We trust all of you are looking forward to a big year ahead in both your professional and personal lives. In our 10th year we will definitely have some celebrating to do, but please watch this space as we will also have some big project announcements soon and some upcoming additional service offerings, in both the training and technology areas.

Important Update: New Guidance on Family and Domestic Violence at Work
Safe Work Australia has released an updated Fact Sheet on Family and Domestic Violence at Work. This is not an easy subject, but it is one that requires our collective understanding and action
Access the Updated Fact Sheet: https://bitly/49LdIOm
Understanding the Gravity:
Family and Domestic Violence encompasses a range of harmful behaviours within intimate relationships, causing physical, sexual, or psychological harm. It's a pervasive issue that affects the health and wellbeing of those involved
This is a Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) matter when it poses a risk to workers' safety, be it at the physical workplace or during work-related activities, including remote work situations.
Responsibilities of Employers (PCBUs):
Persons Conducting a Business or Undertaking (PCBUs) have a responsibility to eliminate or minimise these risks The updated Fact Sheet provides guidance on how organisations can create a safe environment, offering practical steps and resources.
SafeAssure - Supporting Your Workplace:
If your organisation has questions or seeks advice on mitigating the risks associated with Family and Domestic Violence at the Workplace, SafeAssure is here to assist

Keeping workers safe when working outside in summer
Working outdoors in summer involves work health and safety risks, including from heat, sun exposure, adverse weather conditions and bushfires
These risks are not just ‘part of the job’ Persons conducting a business or undertaking (such as employers) have a legal duty to eliminate or minimise the risks of working outdoors as much as they reasonably can
Heat and sun exposure

Find out more on the Safe Work Australia website:

The best way to manage risks is to eliminate them Plan work so it can be done indoors, in the shade, or during cooler parts of the day
Employers must provide workers with access to plenty of drinking water
Employers must provide workers with personal protective equipment In the case of outdoor work, this could mean long sleeved clothing, sunglasses, sunscreen and a hat
Employers should provide workers with regular breaks
The type of work being done can also increase the risks from working in heat For example, Australian roofs regularly exceed 60 degrees in summer
Adverse weather conditions
Employers should monitor the Bureau of Meteorology for information on adverse weather including heat waves, strong winds, heavy or sudden rain, floods and lightning
Employers must have an emergency plan outlining what to do if there is an emergency at the workplace
Workers should be reassigned to indoor duties if adverse weather occurs
Bushfires (including bushfire smoke)
Monitor air quality, fire danger ratings and bushfire warnings issued by your local authorities
Relocate work indoors or away from at-risk or bushfire prone areas
Use P2/N95 masks and eye protection if workers must work in bushfire smoke

We all know a young driver, perhaps a family member or one of your work colleagues, and understand how nerve racking it can be when they are learning to drive or are on their P Plates Qld Raceway have partnered with Qld Emergency Services, to offer a fantastic and potentially life-saving opportunity for Learner Drivers (although every driver is welcome) to attend a Learner Driver Night session held on the Qld Raceway Circuit. The session runs for one hour with the next one scheduled for 11 April 2024 It is very easy to register and costs $40 More information can be found here Learner Driver Nights (qldraceways.com.au)
Another excellent program recommended by a highly experienced Police Officer at the Learner Driver Night is the Teen Defensive Driving Course located at Norwell, Gold Coast This course costs $260 and runs for 3 hours. More information can be found here Teen Defensive Driving - Norwell Motorplex
Both of these programs, without doubt, are money very well spent if it can prevent the loss of another young drivers life
