These people are convincing and very persistent. As many people, especially of an older age group, are not always confident with new technology this request can seem compelling; especially when they are in their own home and feeling safe and off guard.
It is extremely unlikely that any reputable email/ internet service provider would ever cold call a customer in this way and clearly if you had a problem with your email or internet service it would be more likely that you would bring it to your service provider's attention than the other way around.
If this happens we would strongly suggest that you put the phone down, without giving any details then refer the matter to Norfolk Police. If you have given details and have been targeted in this way then I would suggest that you contact Norfolk Police for advice as to what to do next. J Glen

We have knowledge of two incidents where elderly individuals have been targeted by phone, by a call centre in which the caller states that they have reason to believe that there is a problem with their internet or email service. The caller then states that their "firm" can fix the problem on their computer for a fee and asks for bank details and their internet access codes.
