“Rendez-Vous en Asie - The Magazine” was launched by Prestige Select Entertainment after the third edition of the event “Rendez-Vous en Asie” that took place last May in Osanbashi Hall in Yokohama, in the presence of our special guest: Mr Awilo Longomba.

Imagine all the vitality and energy of Congolese soukous, the exotic moves of dozens of hips following the same rythm, the intensity of lyrics that claim for life to be funnier, the passion of a voice that represents the voices of many, the dreams of many.

That is what people can feel when listening to Awilo Longomba, a singer who dedicated before to play drums with Papa Wemba´s Viva la Musica group, and that is now devoted to fill the stages of the world with his energetic moves, his colorful appereance and his powerful and high voice.

Several countries in Africa, America as well as some European and Latin nations have already been witnesses of the joyfulness that his music brings to any atmosphere. But now it is the time for Awilo Longomba to cross more borders and make an echo in new horizons.

It was with that clear intention in mind that he decided to come to Japan in May 2011. In this ocassion, he was the guest of honor of the event Rendez-Vous en Asie, which took place in Yokohama, and aims to promote African culture and music in this apparently distant region.

His visit could have not been more succesful.

First of all, he turned into the best present that Africans living in Japan, who certainly know him, could have. It was an opportunity to relate again with their origins and bring memories of the past.

But beyond that, his presence was the perfect opportunity to bring part of the joy and gladness of his music to a nation that is now recovering after the sad events of March.

It was precisely with this cause that he declared himself very much committed with. While wandering around the streets of Shibuya one of the evenings he spent in Tokyo, he was very much amazed by the different expressions of solidarity that where evident in every step of the way.

For instance, in a karaoke place that was doing a collection for those affected by the earthquake and tsunami, he felt the need to stop, contribute and even take pictures and video.

It is precisely this current context of a Japan in the way to recovery what made his second visit to the Country of the Rising Sun very much special.

The first time he had come was in 1986, as a member of Viva La Musica. Now, in 2011, he came with different and bigger expectations. He brought a bag full of fervid rythms, a firm smile on his face, and more than that, the expectation of coming back to perform in an extraordinary concert that will make the hearts of the Japanese to move with a new rythm, and their bodies to flow with it.

Therefore, in his agenda, Awilo Longomba has written with red ink his participation in Rendez Vous Live Tour, where, besides Japan, he will be spreading his music in stages of South Korea and China.

“I have God with me”, he declares, when asked for the secret of his success. And indeed, his sincere and descomplicated personality, his positive attitude, and his clear vision make it evident that Awilo Longomba, besides exotic music, has a heart to offer and a path that glows in front of him .

The African Giant

S tatue of the African Renaissance.

Inaugurated on the 4th of april 2010, this

is a 50 meter tall statue made by the North Korean .The Statue is a representation of a man holding a child with his right hand and a wrapping a woman with his left hand.

A symbol of Africa freeing itself from any kind of domination and entering the new world. The statue is built on one of the highest volcanic mountain of city of Dakar, offering a wonderful sight of the city.

This statue is a part of Mr Aboulaye Wade,the president of Senegal cultural project.

Claude Ngbanzi.

Claude is a self-made artist , born in Kinshasa, D R Congo.Ha started drawing at a very young age. As a teenager,Claude dreamed of beeing the the Congolese Herge Casterman , the creator of Tintin. That desire never stopped, instead it kept growing. In , school art was his favorite subject.

As a nature and animals lover , he started first by drawing animals. Growing in a large family and surrounded by women , he has learned to apppreciate and respect them . and it s through his art that he chose to show that appreciation and respect, his own way. RVM : When did you start drawing?

Claude Ngbanzi:I started drawing at the age of 9 at fell in love with it till now and propabily for ever.

RVM: How long time have you been in Asia?

Claude Ngbanzi:I have been in Asia especially in Japan for almost 10 years now.

RVM: How do you like Japan?

Claude Ngbanzi:People are kind of shy but very nice.

RVM: Where where you on March 11th ?

Claude Ngbanzi:I was at home that day.That was the scariest day of my life. Since I ve been in Japan. I ve never seen my little house shaking like that!!!

RVM: How japanese people respond to your art?

Claude Ngbanzi:They like it and that makes me feel good!!!

RVM: Is this year your First time to joint the project Rendez Vous en Asie?

Claude Ngbanzi:No.This is my 3rd time.The first one and the second as a guest and the last one as a participant, to me that!s an honor.

RVM: The Rendez Vous Live Tour 2011 will go to South Korea, Taiwan, France and Central African Republic.

he world we are living is really a beautiful place. What makes it such a beautiful place?

To me, it s the difference in cultures that we have here.

Can you imagine a world where everybody looks alike, does the same thing, eats the same food, speaks the same language?… such a world would soon become boring.

The so called “culture shock”, I think, is a good thing to experience and keep experiencing; it s the best way to learn and respect difference in other people’s culture, instead of criticising or diminishing them as barbaric.

I have been around for a long time, so I have experienced a lot of good things.

Today, I want to talk about getting drunk in Japan and in Africa and in DR Congo in particular.

In Japan people really work hard and for long hours, so after work when men and women decide to go for a drink, they really go for it.

When one of them gets drunk then that’s quite okay, there is no shame in getting drunk here in Japan.

That’s cool! Your colleagues will help you to vomit, or give you some cold water to sober up.

I have seen people taking their clothes off in front of ladies and was both surprise and amazed at the same time!

What`s good about it is that the next day, they will talk and laugh about it. The drunk person will say...aah!

I was so drunk...gomen! …and that`s it, but in Congo, heavy drinkers do crazy things...

I haven`t seen a person taking their clothes off, but I have seen people crying when they are drunk ‘‘That’s kawaii”....

In japan the next day people laugh about the whole thing, but in Congo you become ashamed of misbehaving.

So, here is my point, in Japan, getting drunk can be fun, in Congo, it`s shameful. So, which one it s better?

None to me.

Getting drunk after long hours of work or a party or whatever is cool, it`s releves you from daily stress.

Being ashamed of getting drunk and misbehaving is cool, too. That will help you to control yourself and behave next time.

That`s my point .

As a Congolese in Japan....uumhh, sorry I don`t drink alcohol.

s a way of sharing with you our acknowledge and African wisdom, I would like to introduce to you some of our African proverbs. Throughout this edition of ‘’Rendez-vous en Asie, the MAGAZINE ‘’, we will always be giving you different African sayings and sharing our wisdom.

The proverbs of old age were used by our ancestors as a way of educating, providing counselling and helping others to acquire wisdom.

Those proverbs have been transmitted by word of mouth from generation to generation. The event with the progress of the technology nowadays, proverbs have still been used in many people daily lives. In african cultures the fairy tales have a very important role to play, like in all societies. Some grandparents are still telling these fairy tales to their grandchildren and those fairy tales always end up being a proverb.

Sometimes instead of telling someone of his or her bad behaviour, or an answer to a problem etc. ...they can say it by using a proverb.

For our dear readers in this issue, we have picked in this splendid culture a “Malian” proverb...

“Feet don’t go where the heart is not” –this proverb suggests the need to have confidence and faith in something even before embarking on it.

Macka ruffin son of preacher, grass root musician, producer and singer, Mackaruffin has grown from strencht to strencht. He began as youth in the 70’s pioneering the way with his brother electric dread. TABU Ngongo

Saxophonist, percussionist, vocalist Tabu Ngongo was born in Democratic Republic of the Congo (former Zaire) on Oct.4. Started his musical journey in Tanzania. went to Kenya in late 70s, then to Uganda, Zambia, Malawi and Zimbabwe in early 80s. Through this grand journey he came out with an extremely rich musical sense. He performed with the group Mangelepa which awarded Gold Record in Kenya. Then he visited Japan as a member of Vundumuna, made commercial songs of “Dai-ichi Kosho”, ”From A”, “Suntory NCAA”.

Vundumuna became to be well-known by their playing at the club Pigapiga in Ebisu, Japan that led them to join the festivals to play with MALTA and Sadao Watanabe. After several times of visiting, Tabu joined B.B. Mofrank’s group Bitasika, then settled in Japan to continue his music career. Now Tabu is creating his music world both in Congo and Japan.

Nosy Be owes its nickname of Island of Perfumes to the plantations of Ylang-Ylang and spices whose fragrance is permanently in the air, captivating tourists as soon as they set foot on the airport of Fascène.

Well serviced through its 200 km coastline, it boasts some of the most beautiful beaches of Madagascar, caressed by turquoise blue waters protected from heavy swell by the Mainland. Emerald green lakes occupy its craters whereas a myriad of heavenly islets ensure it an exceptional sea environment.

And furthermore, Nosy Be is also a welcoming population and an hinterland to discover.Hellville , the main town, a blend of exoticism and time at a standstill with its old canons, its church dating back to 1860, the colonial style houses of the Cours Hell, the stele of the Russian sailors, the port with its alignment of dhows, pirogues and white boats.

それでは私たちの読者のみなさま皆様のため、 ここで最高のマダガスカル料理の作り方を二つ、 ご紹介しましょう。 とても簡単です。

1) チキン ア・ラ・ヴァニラ ４人分 材料 -最大1.2kgの鶏１つ -オリーブオイル大さじ１ -バニラ２さや -濃厚なま生クリーム 0.5 リットル -塩、こしょう

調理時間: 1時間30分 •作り方 *鶏を細かくき り、油をひいたフライパンに入れ、焼き色をつけ る。. *５分間蓋をして、水をひたひたになるまで入れる *バニラのさやを二つに裂いて加える。 さやの実を ナイフの先で削らないように注意。そして実と同様 にさやも鶏に加える。 *沸騰後、火を弱くし３０分加熱。 *鶏が柔らかくなったか確認し、もし固ければさら に何分間か加熱する。. *調理した鶏を皿に移す。 *残ったスープに生クリームを加える。 *再び沸騰させ、コーティング・ソースになる まで煮詰める。 *塩、こしょう。鶏をソースの中に戻す。 *鶏を盛りつけ、ご飯か蒸したじゃがいも添え る。

2) ココナツミルクのおさかな ２人分。

ココナツミルクのおさかな ２人分。 -魚のフィレ１ Kg -よく熟したトマト２つ。 細かくきる。 -オリーブオイル大さじ３ -ココナツミルク0.3リットル -玉ねぎみじんぎ り１個分 - 塩二つまみ -にんにく½さや 作りかた方: *オリーブオイルで魚を揚げる。 *フライパンで玉ねぎを飴色になるまで炒め る。 *魚に玉ねぎをかける。 *トマトを加える。 *魚を加える。 *約５分後、ココナツミルクをかけ、 好みによってピーマンを加える。 *時々かき混ぜながら平均15分間加熱。 やった !!!!! ココナッツミルクのおさかなりょ うり料理ができた。 ご飯をそ添えても盛りつけ。 め召しあ上がれ !
