“Rendez-Vous en Asie The MAGAZINE” “A Celebration of Light and Sharing” It is the custom for Africans to travel, go to the village to celebrate the festive season with their parents, friends etc ... But that depends on their place of residence and if they can afford it.

We will talk about it in this 4th edition, for it’s nearly Christmas.

2011 is ending and 2012 is almost here with a lot of festivities and celebrations for Christmas and the New Year.

Rich and poor, Christians around the world celebrate Christmas, the birth of Jesus, with great joy and passion. The celebrations focus on religious services and processions full of energy punctuated by songs and dances that follow the offices on Christmas Eve. `What will African Christians in Japan do? How will they celebrate Christmas? Where? And with whom? It is important not to let loneliness get the better of the party because Christmas is the celebration of Light and sharing.

For those who have the ability to share, don’t forget the meaning of African party-style. For us in Africa, despite economic difficulties, the first gift that we share in this festive period is * warmth * It’s free! Ecological! And it’s real.

Warmth should be the first thing to share with our Japanese guests and friends who are like us, far from their loving ones for some reasons, during this holiday season.

For a pleasant change of scenery, you will have the opportunity to sing in various churches in Tokyo and its area, here is one addresse that come to my mind, for lovers of African gospel: Jesus Gospel House (1)You can find more additional churches or African Gospel concerts in your area by searching on Google. For those who are spoiled by Santa Claus, to spend a sunny Christmas in Africa: - South Africa is strongly recommended: the heart of the largest animal kingdom in the world, in the famous Kruger National Park (2) - The island of perfume in Nosy Be(3) - An ecological-Christmas? So it’s in Gabon! This country holds the biological reserve of the continent. You will not be disappointed, even if there’s no snow, residents of cities that have access to electricity buy tinsels to decorate the Christmas tree and install a crib with its figures as it is the tradition.

During Christmas, people visit each other! They wish Merry Christmas to their family and friends,,, they go from house to house, sometimes it looks like a day’s walk. People also exchange gifts, in general it varies from a computer to textbooks, clothes etc ... But before all partying is the most important, because in Africa everything can be celebrated, a birth or a death is always an occasion for dancing and partying, this may sound a bit strange but it’s a reality.

All these celebrations are punctuated with singing and dancing followed by dinners, usually cassava leaves with meat or smoked fish, chicken with rice, all accompanied by fruit juices or alcohol depending on families tastes.

ecember, month of light, night is getting longer and darkness stimulates us to search for a more subtle light, a warmer and inner radiance in order to get closer to the other.

We are getting prepared for the intimacy of Christmas Eve. As lovers in Japan will mark the date of Christmas on their calendars as if they were tempted to silence the surveys on the growing number of singles in one day (or more in two days with Valentine’s Day). Both Japanese families will strictly follow the Western tradition of this great celebration which unfortunately will become a steady act, inserted into the habits of life.

As for Japan, December is a crossroads of time, when two seasons bow to each other: fall and winter, none will give way to the other because each season is the absolute master in its respective place, in a simple difference of latitude. Christmas for the Japanese is synonymous with the past; all their efforts during this month converge to the successful transition of the old year to the new year. December is the appointment with the unforeseen future. December is a quest for Light, Christmas is a step and New Year is the finality.

The lust for illuminations and amazement, push the Japanese to head to Kyoto at night.

Halos of lights cross in the sky, without necessarily lighting up the stars, but fall on the incendiary red Momiji grouped numerously around temples. Lady Autumn shines in all its glory. The crowd looks like moths around the “Kodaiji Temple” where the Momiji are reflecting more intensely than during the day thanks to special lighting projectors. The famous “Kyomizu Dera” high-rise offers an unforgettable picture of nature, artificial lights point at the momiji stretching out of sight. Not to mention the row of bamboo in front of the “Nonomiya Jinja” in a place called “harajiyama” where the dizzy height of bamboo makes us dream about the solemnity of a temple.

Possible access to all transport except JR if you buy the transport ticket called “Sere to Kansai” for 3 days or 2 days sold at the closest Tourist Center.

People can easily travel to three major cities such as Kyoto-Osaka-Kobe. In a second step, in the Japanese Alps in Nagano Prefecture, winter will cover the landscape to the tops of mountains of immaculate snow. This is the season to enjoy onsens. They become perfect observation posts, plunging the body from the neck down in pleasure.

You can contemplate the landscape which gives you the impression of dominating the harsh winter. The ryokans “Tsubakino” and “Awanoyu” will be happy to introduce to their guests to the charms of Japanese traditions. Closer to Tokyo, in a large park, trees 30 meters high, surrounding a lake, are covered with 10,000 light bulbs. No mistake, this becomes the attraction of the month. It’s in Hon-Atsugi on the Odakyu line, on arrival take the bus to Miyagase.

Certainly, we are very far from the image of a family gathering around a fire singing Christmas carols!

12月は光の月です。夜はだんだんと長くなり、暗闇が 温かく内側から輝くかすかな光を私たちに探させ、 私たちを他の人々と近づけさせます。私たちは親密 なクリスマスイブの準備をしています。 この日 （もしく はバレンタインデーも含めた2日間）のシングルの人 の数の増加についての世論調査を黙らせたいかの 様に、 日本の恋人たちはカレンダーのクリスマスの日 に印をつけます。 日本の家庭ではこのすばらしいお 祝いである西洋の伝統をきっちり守り、それは習慣 になっております。 日本では12月は時間の岐路であり、秋と冬、2つの 季節が互いに挨拶をする時です。 それぞれの季節は しっかり分かれており、いずれも他に取って代わるこ とはありません。 日本人にとってクリスマスは過去と 同じ意味です。彼らのこの月の取り組み全ては古い 年から新しい年へうまく移行することに集中してい ます。12月は予測できない未来と出会う約束の月で す。12月は光を探求する月であり、 クリスマスはひと つのステップで、新年が最終目標です。 イルミネーシ ョンそして驚きへの欲求は日本人を夜の京都へ向 かわせます。 空にかかる光の輪が、寺の周りにおびただしく群れ を成す感情を刺激する様な赤いもみじの上に落ち ています。集まった大勢の人々は”高台寺”に群がる 蛾の様に見えます。 そこでは特別な投影機のおかげ でもみじが昼間よりも激しく反射して見えます。有名 な”清水寺”の高さからは目の前に広がる人工照明で 照らされたもみじが忘れることのできない自然の景 色を見せてくれます。”嵐山”と呼ばれる場所にある” 野宮神社”の前に広がる竹の列については言うまで もありません。 そこでは目もくらむ高さの竹が寺の厳 粛さを思い描かせてくれます。 JR以外の考えられる交通手段として、お近くの観光 案内所で売っている3日間もしくは2日間の”スルッ とKANSAI”というチケットを買うと、 これで京都-大 阪-神戸の3つの主要な都市を移動することができま す。長野県の日本アルプスでは、汚れひとつ無い雪 の積もる山の頂上まで、その景色を冬が覆います。 こ の季節は温泉が楽しい季節です。 そこはパーフェク トな観測所になります。体を首までつかって、厳しい 冬を支配しているような気分になる景色をじっと見 つめることができます。”椿野”や”泡の湯”などの旅館 では宿泊客に日本の伝統の魅力を喜んで紹介してく れます。東京に程近く、大きな公園にある湖の周りの 30メートルほどの木々には10,000個の電飾が施さ れています。 これはこの月一番のアトラクションにな ることは間違いありません。 その場所は小田急線の 本厚木にあります。駅から宮ヶ瀬行きのバスに乗って 下さい。 もちろんそれらは家族で火を囲んでクリスマスキャ ロルを歌うといったクリスマスのイメージからは程 遠いです! 全ての地域の全ての喜びに満ちた心へ、 メリークリスマス! # 4 Rendez-Vous en Asie The MAGAZINE 7

from and what brought you to japan Joice : hi everyone my name is Joice Caty do Rosario Bazar, I am from Mozambique, Have been living in japan for almost 4 years and I am loving it. I came to japan in 2008 with my mother. She came to Japan to work in Mozambique Embassy, therefore as youngest daughter I had the opportunity to come with her. I am a current university student doing my 3rd year.

RVAM : Since when have you been modeling ?

Joice : I have been modeling since 2009 in Japan, though in Mozambique I use to model in since 2004 to 2007.

RVAM : How your family respond to your choice of been a model?

Joice : At the beginning my mother thought it would have an influence on my studies, and my father did not aprove the idea of modeling. I had to cry a lot in order to convince them that I really want to model. I believe they understood how important modeling was for me. and they allowed me to do so, but of course with some restrictions, once that I started model carreer

RVAM :What’s the best compliment you ‘ve ever received since you’ve been modeling?

omohiko Yanagisawa, the man who seems more Kenyan than Japanese For our last edition of 2011, we had the pleasure for meeting Tomohoko Yanagisawa in his ‘’masai shop ‘’located close to Gakuei daigaku Station.

We had a warm welcome with a lovely cup of coffee and macadamia nuts...The last time we met Mr Tomohiko Yanagisawa was ,during the launching ceremony of the ‘’Rendez-vous en Asie ‘’project in Osanbashi Hall in Yokohama.

We can describe Mr Tomohiko Yanagisawa as a humble man who lets his actions speak for him. This is a man who is the CEO of ‘’Wise Kenya International ‘’ company,The (only)company endorsed by the Kenyan Embassy in japan .

In Kenya, he has his own factory that employs ten kenyans, Beside that, Mr Tomohiko Yanagisawa s company main business is to imports kenyan macadamia nuts and cofee to japan.

Three years ago he decided to extend his business by opening a`` Masai Shop``as the name says it itself,it’s a shop that introduce and sell kenyan products in japan.

A shop were you find not only coffe and some delicious macadamia nuts but various kenyan handmade items and materials such as masai clothes, necklaces, bracelets earings and other Kenyan traditional wear.We may say the masai shop is like a little Kenya in Tokyo.It has also all kind of valuable information you might need to know about kenya. As they say, only the sky is the limit. Recently you can also find masks from Cameroon, beautiful madagascar handmade bags, mini Djembe from Senegal in the store...etc As busy as he is, Mr tomohiko Yanagisawa visits kenya three times a year, he also organizes a big event twice a year (live concert) involving all tokyo based african artists.With all those activities he still keeps on being humble and simple.

hristmas is right around the corner. One of the best moment of the year I guess. So, I want to seize this opportunity to talk about how the two countries, Japan and DR Congo celebrates christmas.

I had to come in japan to realize that christmas is not a religious event as it is in other countries but it is more a like a romantic occasion. And definetely not a holiday!!!But a sort of a mini valentine day.First let ‘s go to the DR Congo ,and bring back my christmas memories.

As every Congolese kids, christmas was the best moment of the year.It ‘s the day you ‘ll see all the kids looking brand new and clean on the street that goes along with a big smile on the face. I remember before christmas I will sneak in my parent room to see if they already bought my present.

Usually its not the latest gadget or something like that.

Most of time it’s a new pair of shoe or clothes. As a young

As a young boy,I couldn’t go to the christmas eve mass because it started very late and ended late.So I would wait for the 25th December mass. That was the big day. No good sleep on the eve of christmas, till I see what my parent got for me.I was one of the first to wake up and do clear all my duties. On christmas day,, you got to be a the best boy you can be!!!! Right before 10 o’clock, time the mass start my parents will give me my gift. A new pair of shoes and clothes and that’s all I need for christmas!!! One one my best memories is the street of Kinshasa on christmass day.

Every boys and girls look so new.The smile on people faces. No words to describe them.The amazing scene is, you will see everyone heading in one direction... the church and me amongst them. From my home to the church it took less that an hour.With my friends we will try to walk fast to get a sit. Once in the church, that when you feel christmas.I m’ talking about the christmass spirit,the love.Everybody in the church singing and dancing.People are so happy. A two hours of a beautiful and colorful celebartion of Jesus-Christ birth just amazing.

At the end of the mass,everybody will be chatting with everyone.Wishing everybody a merry christmas even those you ‘re not familiar with.Then comes the time to go home for the second part. Sharing the meal with the family and friends.I remember my mother putting on the table one of her best recipes every single christmas for everyone to share..Our house wasn’t the only house full of visitors,family and friends.

All house in the neibourghood was full of people.

Once the familly diner is over.The same friends I was sharing the meal with will invited me to their house to do the same thing.So just imagine if you have ten friends, you’ll visit and share meals with ten families. I remember, refusing a meal on that particular day was rude. Actually christmas it’s more for kids. I remember adults spending their time in some corner around the neibourghood having a beer and chatting all day long!

They were those who couldn’t afford spend a good christmas.For those one or for those families all we had to do was to invited to join and share the moment.

That’s the true spirit of christmas .Sharing what you have with everyone and anyone with love.

Back home christmas ,is more spiritual than material.

I didn’t need the latest nintendo or Ipad or whatever to enjoy my christmas, all I needed was to share receive and give love to those around me .Celebrating christmas with no special decoration and 35 degree under the sun was just great!!!!!

Moving to Japan , I experienced what i call a different type of christmas. First, I was amazed by the decoration, what they call here the ‘’ illumination’’.On the christmas eve, all I do is go to (christmas)eve mass.

After that I will go somewhere and see all those lovely couples taking picture of the illuminations, holding each other.Then join friends in a club to dance and have fun. On the 25th, it’s all about buying and eating christmas cake with your girlfriend or boyfriend .For those who have a family,they will share it with

子どもの頃、 クリスマスイブのミサには遅い時間に始まる ので行くことはできませんでした。 ですので、25日のクリス マスのミサを待っていました。 その日は重要な日でした。 クリスマスイブには私の親がどんなプレゼントを用意して くれたのか確認するまで良く眠れませんでした。私は一番 に起きてやらなくてはならない日課を片付けました。 クリ スマスの日はできる限り最高の子にならなくてはなりませ ん!!!!ミサが始まる10時になる直前、私の両親はプレゼン トをくれます。新しい靴や服、それらが私にとってクリスマ スに必要な全てでした!!!私の最高の思い出のひとつはク リスマスの日、キンシャサの通りでの出来事です。全ての 男の子と女の子たちはとても新鮮に見えました。人々は微 笑んでいました。 それをどの様に言葉で表現すればいい のか分かりません。素晴らしいシーンです。みんなが同じ 場所に向かっています…教会です。私もその集団の中に いました。私の家から教会までは1時間弱程で、友人たち と席を取る為に急いで歩きました。教会に入った時がクリ スマスを感じる時です。私が言いたいのはクリスマスの精 神と愛です。教会にいる人はみんな歌い踊っていました。 みんなとても幸せでした。2時間にわたる美しい生き生き としたイエス・キリストの誕生の祝いの儀はただただ素晴 らしいです。 ミサの終わりにはみんなでおしゃべりしています。 あまり知 らない人であったとしても全ての人の楽しいクリスマスを 祈ります。 それから第2部の為、家に帰ります。家族や友人 たちと食事をするのです。みんなで分かち合うため、 クリス マスはいつも私の母が彼女のベストなレシピを食卓に並 べていたのを思い出します。私たちの家だけが沢山のお 客さん、家族、友人でいっぱいになっていたわけではあり ません。近所の全ての家はお客さんでいっぱいでした。家 族での夕食が終わると、今度はそこにいた友人が彼らの 家に私を招待し、同じことをします。想像してみて下さい。 もし10人の友人がいたとしたら、10家族の食事に行くの です。 この特別な日に食事を断るというのは失礼に当たっ たのを思い出します。 クリスマスはどちらかというと子ども たちのものです。 大人たちは街角でビールを飲みながらおしゃべりをして 過ごしていたのを思い出します!!!! 良いクリスマスを過ごすのに経済的に余裕のない人々も いました。彼らやその家族の為に私たちは彼らを招き入 れ、 この時を分かち合う必要がありました。 これが本当のク リスマスの精神です。 あなたが持っている物をみんなと愛 を持って分かち合うことです。 故郷でのクリスマスは物質的な物よりももっと精神的な物 です。私はクリスマスを楽しむのにゲーム機やIPadなどが 必要ではありませんでした。私が必要だったのは周りの人 々と愛を受け取り与え、分かち合うことでした。特別な飾り つけもなく、太陽の下35度の中クリスマスを祝うのは本当 に最高でした!!!!! 日本に住んで、私は違うタイプのクリスマスを体験しまし た。 まず、その装飾にびっくりさせられました。 ここではその 飾り付けを’’ イルミネーション’’と呼びます。 クリスマスイブ に私がするのはミサに行くことだけです。 その後どこかへ 行き、すてきなカップルたちが抱き合いながらイルミネー ションの写真を撮るのを目にします。 そしてクラブで友人 たちと会い、 ダンスして楽しみます。25日にはガールフレン ドやボーイフレンドと一緒にクリスマスケーキを買って食 べます。家族がいる人は家族みんなで食べます。 ケーキが 無い人もいます!!!! y dear reader friends, As you Browse through the pages of our magazine, you won’t be able to resist the sounds, voices and vibrant drums of joyful messages coming from artists of other continents who want to pop the colors of life on a blank background.

This magazine will be your passport to get closer to a discreet world that makes mighty heads spin when it comes to the richness on this soil. On the evidence, the culture of a country has no power to embrace other cultures and capture imagination.

Yet imagination can only reach depth when it is associated to culture, which is an immense sharing and mixing caldron.

This magazine does not pretend to become this caldron but it has the size to contain the great admiration meant for you, dear readers in Japan.

Archipelago that has always felt isolated from the outside world, living habits so little understood, given the number of books on Japan that attempts to pierce or clarify misunderstandings or questions it. And now Japan retreats into its beautiful pride of being misunderstood while the heart of every person wants to hear: “We love you” before “We understand you”.

Yet this year, Japan became a hub reflecting all the uncertainties of our future, attracting the eyes of the world that have all met in a shower of prayer, the pain is intense and is shared. Many of you went north: a headmaster of a primary school collected schoolbags he brought by himself, and many other examples like this showing that people preferred to sacrifice the famous golden week holidays in order to help people in need. Japanese artists came to sing in front of the disaster victims; those troubadours with generous hearts wanted to put their memories into songs as the witnesses of the catastrophe refused to lock up themselves into grief and still want to catch the smile of life even through tears.

An earthquake cracks, smashes, strikes down and kills, and its echo shakes our reason for being.

What is this feeling of vulnerability, ranging from nostalgia for the lost peace and the pursuit of something that we can’t grasp? Probably the emergence of new desires, mostly those we do not want: lying, recklessness, corruption, in the near future, will highlight what we really want. I tell you here something that mothers and women confessed!

And you, Japanese friends are you finally determined not to wait anymore for events you were expecting for and decide to work for what will happen in the future, maybe it’s easier to be happy like this. Artists from all over the world will sing your new happiness.

After almost 8 years serving at several embassies in China: France, Gabon, Algeria, Cote d’Ivoire Kodjo came to Japan in 1997.

Chef kodjo who is also Togolese is now working in partnership with fellow Chef Edmond Kamalo at the Togolese Restaurant ``Eko lolonyo``in akassaka.

While in Japan, he has worked and shared his knowledge with ‘’Kirin City’’, ‘’Uncle Yves’’ , ‘’Haruno ‘’, ‘’Jay Bar ‘’.As a very experience chef, fluent in chinese , french and english Mr Kodjo is now ready to show off his recipes and familiarise Japan with food from Togo.
