This course is taught by Certified Tree Expert Ted Szczawinski, a professor of plant science and biology at the Bergen County Technical School. Pruning is both an art and a science. Failing to understand the science of when, where, and how to prune can ruin the plant, the landscape and your reputation.

In this popular hands-on, half-day course, Bruce Crawford will show you how to properly prune your landscape plants while preserving their natural vigor and beauty. Pruning shears will be available, but we recommend you bring your own equipment (if you have it), including hand pruning shears, lopping shears and a small pruning saw. Please dress for fieldwork.

In this four-day course, Bob Dobson, former president of the Irrigation Association of New Jersey and a member of the NJ State Licensing Board, will explain how to design and install an irrigation system from the ground up. Bob is a certified residential, commercial, and golf course irrigation designer as well as a certified irrigation contractor. In this class, instructor Bob Dobson introduces the “checkbook method” of irrigation scheduling, which operates just like deposits and withdrawals in your bank checking account. In irrigation, deposits are made by rainfall, withdrawals are made by ET (evapotranspiration), and your opening balance is your current soil moisture level. You will also learn the four key elements of efficient irrigation systems, and how to calculate sprinkler run times and create irrigation schedules.
