Every issue of New Times is an encounter with those shaping the future. We tell the stories of dreamers who turn visions into reality, of pioneers who push boundaries and transform the world around them. Entrepreneurs, artists, scientists, educators, and community leaders—individuals whose journeys inspire and prove that the impossible can become possible.
But while we bring their stories to life on the pages of our magazine, once a year, we meet them in person—at the International Kids Festival, a cherished tradition that has been shaping California’s history for over two decades.
The festival is more than just a celebration—it is a living embodiment of the values we write about. Inspiration, culture, family, education, art, and technology all come to life in the park, among vibrant stages, thrilling attractions, hands-on STEM zones, and captivating exhibitions. Here, you don’t just read about today’s heroes; you see them, engage with them, and hear their stories firsthand.
This year, our festival host is none other than Will Roberts—an actor from Oppenheimer, a master magician, and a Guinness World Record holder. We are used to seeing him on screen, but this time, he will be right there with us, weaving magic not through cinema but in real life, among the festival’s guests. It’s a rare opportunity to witness a true professional at work and a powerful reminder that every success is a journey paved with
dedication, belief, and the relentless pursuit of a dream.
At New Times, we often say that we are not just a magazine about people—we are a magazine for people. We don’t just report on events; we uncover their deeper meaning. We don’t simply present facts; we reveal how they change lives. The festival follows the same philosophy—it’s not just entertainment; it’s an experience that encourages children to explore, discover, and be inspired.
Here, generations come together. Grandparents, parents, and children all find something special. Some connect with their cultural heritage for the first time, others step into new roles, and many simply savor the joy of the moment. And in that, there is a unique kind of magic.
Every year, as I walk through the festival, I wonder: could one of these young performers, dancers, inventors, or athletes be a future feature in our magazine? Will their name grace our cover in a few years? Will their journey become the inspiration for others?
The magazine and the festival are two sides of the same vision—the belief that within each of us lies the power to create, to transform, to build. That culture is not just a reflection of the past but a foundation for the future. That the world shines brighter when we believe in children and empower them to dream without limits.
And that is why New Times is once again right where stories are born. Where every moment is a thread in something greater. Where the laughter and smiles of children are the most valuable reward.
And I can’t wait to see you there.

Jason Sample is a man whose life is dedicated to education and community development. From working in the former Grant School District, where he helped launch student support programs, to his role as Superintendent of Gateway Community Charters, he has consistently aimed to create equal opportunities for all students. In this interview, Jason shares key moments from his journey, his unique approach to leadership, and his vision for the future of education that blends innovation, tradition, and a commitment to equity.
S UPERINTENDENT MR. SAMPLE, COULD YOU SHARE A MEMORABLE STORY FROM YOUR UPBRINGING THAT SHAPED YOUR PASSION FOR EDUCATION AND COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT?
Growing up and education was a transformative force in my life. My parents, who were educators, instilled in me a deep commitment to improving my community through education. One particularly memorable experience was when I started working in the former Grant School District. In partnership with the Mutual Assistance Network of Del Paso Heights, we launched a dropout prevention program at MLK Jr. High and Grant High called Operation Graduation. We introduced a peer mentoring program for junior high and high school students. As the Program Coordinator, I had the privilege of mentoring the high school student mentors. One of
my mentees, who faced significant academic and personal challenges, demonstrated the profound impact of guidance, encouragement, and access in transforming a student’s outlook. This experience shaped my passion for education and inspired my commitment to fostering a supportive community where every individual has the opportunity to thrive.
YOU HAVE A UNIQUE BACKGROUND IN BOTH EDUCATION AND NONPROFIT WORK. HOW HAS THIS COMBINATION INFLUENCED YOUR APPROACH AS SUPERINTENDENT AT GCC?
My dual experience uniquely influences my leadership approach at Gateway in education and nonprofit work. This combination has instilled in me a holistic approach to leadership. Nonprofit work taught me to maximize limited resources and prioritize mission-driven initiatives and a sense of community building, while my educational background has kept me focused on student outcomes. At Gateway, these perspectives have allowed us to implement programs and services that are innovative yet based on the needs of the communities we serve. When schools see themselves as part of the fabric of the communities they reside in, you will see positive school and academic outcomes and improve the economic outcomes of a community, from lower crime rates to increased service offerings. One of the initiatives I am proud we are implementing at Gateway Community Charters is our Community Schools Partnership Program. This initiative allows us to integrate community support into education by providing wraparound services that help students and families academically and personally.

We integrate cutting-edge technology to enhance learning, but we also prioritize foundational skills like critical thinking and effective communication
SUPERINTENDENT MR. SAMPLE, WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO TRANSITION INTO EDUCATION LEADERSHIP, AND WAS THERE A DEFINING MOMENT THAT MADE YOU REALIZE THIS WAS YOUR CALLING?
During my early career in leadership, I noticed the systemic challenges that hindered student success. I decided to run for school board and change the system from a policy and leadership role. After serving for 4 years as an elected official, I joined the board for Gateway Charters and later left the board to join the staff as the Director of Community Engagement. After serving in various roles, I eventually became the Superintendent/CEO following the retirement of the organization’s founder. A pivotal moment came when a former student returned to thank me for academic support and believing in their potential. I then realized the profound impact of leadership in creating equitable opportunities for all students. This moment reinforced my resolve to champion the principles outlined in the Portrait of a GCC Graduate on a systemic level.
HOW DO YOU BALANCE INNOVATION AND TRADITION WHEN MAKING DECISIONS THAT IMPACT GCC’S STUDENTS AND STAFF?
At Gateway, we believe in a student-centered approach that balances innovation and tradition. We respect and uphold traditions that strengthen our community’s identity while also embracing forwardthinking strategies that prepare our students for the future. We integrate cutting-edge technology to enhance learning, but we also prioritize foundational skills like critical thinking and effective communication, which are key elements of the Portrait of a GCC Graduate. Most importantly, we rely on our talented staff, who work directly with our students daily. These individuals not only make an impact in our classrooms but also in our community. As an organization, we firmly believe that everyone can innovate and create opportunities for our students.
SUPERINTENDENT
MR. SAMPLE, WHAT IS YOUR ULTIMATE VISION FOR GATEWAY COMMUNITY CHARTERS, AND HOW DO YOU PLAN TO MAKE THIS VISION A REALITY OVER THE NEXT DECADE?
My vision is for Gateway and our schools to be known as organizations that offer an equitable and innovative educational approach and have a heart of service for our community. I want us to ensure that every graduate exemplifies the traits outlined in the Portrait of a GCC Graduate by leaving our doors as Academically, Workforce and College-Ready, Life-Ready, Global Citizens,
Productive Citizens, and Reflective Citizens.
Over the next decade, we plan to achieve this by:
Expanding access to personalized learning opportunities.
Strengthening partnerships with local industries and businesses to provide career pathways.
Investing in professional development to equip our educators with the tools to inspire and innovate.
Creating inclusive environments that celebrate diversity and foster belonging.
Partner with our community and build the region’s economic development.
THE EDUCATION LANDSCAPE IS CONSTANTLY EVOLVING. WHAT IS THE BIGGEST CHALLENGE FOR CHARTER SCHOOLS TODAY, AND HOW IS GCC ADDRESSING THIS?
One of the biggest challenges is bridging the opportunity gap while maintaining high standards of innovation. At Gateway, we address this by leveraging data-driven insights to identify and address disparities,
collaborating with community stakeholders, and ensuring that every decision aligns with our commitment and promise to our students and families. Another challenge that charter schools face is a lack of equitable funding. We constantly have to do more with less since we receive less funding than traditional public schools. At GCC, we have worked hard to use the funds we receive to impact results for students.
EQUITY IN EDUCATION IS A CORNERSTONE OF YOUR MISSION. WHAT SPECIFIC STRATEGIES ARE YOU IMPLEMENTING TO ENSURE THAT EVERY STUDENT AT GCC HAS ACCESS TO EQUAL OPPORTUNITIES AND RESOURCES?
At Gateway, we believe that every student deserves the resources and support needed to succeed. I am proud of our teachers and staff’s daily efforts to make this belief a reality. All of our schools offer high-quality programs. Our special populations already outscore the state average, and our one-year high school graduation rate is impressive. Every day, we work to ensure
that we create access and opportunities for all students. As we continue to build on this mission, some of the Specific strategies we implement include:
Hiring linguistically and culturally competent teachers and staff who reflect the communities we serve.
Providing access to technology for all students through one-to-one device programs.
Offering targeted support services such as counseling, tutoring, and English language instruction.
Partnering with community organizations to address socioeconomic barriers.
Designing a curriculum that reflects diverse perspectives and fosters a sense of identity and belonging.
ARE THERE ANY UPCOMING PROGRAMS, TECHNOLOGIES, OR INITIATIVES YOU’RE PARTICULARLY EXCITED ABOUT IMPLEMENTING AT GCC TO ENHANCE THE STUDENT EXPERIENCE?
Gateway continues to provide extensive support for our English Learners, refugee students, and families. Serving the unique needs of English Learner students and families has been core to our programs and schools and our work with our communities. We are also excited to launch our work with Artificial intelligence (AI).
BUILDING STRONG PARTNERSHIPS IS ESSENTIAL FOR A SCHOOL DISTRICT’S SUCCESS. HOW ARE YOU ENGAGING PARENTS, COMMUNITY LEADERS, AND LOCAL ORGANIZATIONS TO STRENGTHEN GCC’S IMPACT?
Engagement is the cornerstone of our success. We recognize the invaluable role of parents, community leaders, and local organizations in strengthening Gateway’s impact. That’s why we’ve established the GCC Foundation, Community Business Advisory Council, Faith Leaders Council, Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council, and Parent Partners. These groups provide parents and community members a voice in decision-making, ensuring they play an integral role in our success. Additionally, we actively seek collaboration with local businesses and nonprofits to offer internships, mentorships, and resources, recognizing that our collective efforts make our community thrive.
Gateway is at the forefront of integrating AI-driven tools to personalize instruction for every student and improve student outcomes. Additionally, we’re expanding our career and technical education programs to include emerging fields like green energy and technology. These initiatives align with our commitment to producing innovative, adaptable graduates ready to succeed in a rapidly changing world.
SUPERINTENDENT MR. SAMPLE, WHEN YOU REFLECT ON YOUR CAREER AT GCC, WHAT ACHIEVEMENTS WOULD YOU LIKE TO BE REMEMBERED FOR, AND HOW WILL YOU MEASURE YOUR SUCCESS AS SUPERINTENDENT?
All Gateway educators and I hope to be remembered for building a culture of connection, partnership with parents and communities, innovation, and excellence. Our students’ outcomes will measure our success—not just in academic achievement but in how they embody the values of the Portrait of a GCC Graduate. Whether they pursue higher education, enter the workforce, or engage in community leadership, our students’ success and impact on the community and world will be the ultimate testament to our work.
At Gateway, we believe that every student deserves the resources and support needed to succeed.

Every year, thousands of beautiful women from California compete for the prestigious title of Miss California International, and a strict panel of judges selects the best of the best. For over 20 years, the competition has been organized by Sergey Ivannikov’s renowned agency RAM, with a jury that includes Hollywood celebrities, California business leaders, and politicians. This year, the coveted crown was awarded to the stunning Eunice Cintron. We had an honest conversation with Miss California International 2025 about her life, her victory, and her plans.
EUNICE, WHAT DOES THE TITLE OF MISS CALIFORNIA INTERNATIONAL 2024 MEAN TO YOU, AND HOW DO YOU PLAN TO USE IT TO INSPIRE OTHERS?

It is an opportunity to represent the state of California with grace, strength, and a commitment to community service. For me, it symbolizes the power to inspire others by using the stage to promote values such as self-confidence, inclusivity, and giving back to society. I plan on using it to engage in meaningful outreach by advocating for causes close to my heart, such as mental health awareness, education, and women’s empowerment. Additionally, confiding in someone I trusted was instrumental in processing my feelings and ensuring I didn’t keep everything bottled up.

Beauty has always played a crucial role in human society. It opens doors to opportunities, influences how others perceive a person, and can even determine success in both career and personal life. But where does beauty come from? Is attractiveness a gift of nature, encoded in our genes, or is it the result of lifestyle and modern technologies? Can we claim that there is a “beauty gene” that makes some people naturally attractive while others must work hard to enhance their appearance?
In this article, we will explore what science has to say on the subject, what factors shape physical appearance, and whether we can truly influence our attractiveness.
Practical Tips Enhancing Your Natural Beauty
Regardless of genetics, there are effective ways to maintain a youthful and attractive appearance:
Healthy Diet
Antioxidants, vitamins, and hydration support skin elasticity.
Regular Exercise
Improves circulation and muscle tone in both face and body.
Quality Sleep
Promotes cell regeneration and a refreshed appearance
Skincare Routine
Sunscreen, moisturizers, and professional treatments help slow aging.
Stress Management Meditation, outdoor activities, and relaxation techniques reduce aging effects.
Avoiding Harmful Habits
With the rise of social media and globalization, beauty standards have become increasingly diverse. People from different cultures share their perspectives on attractiveness, and the beauty industry adapts its products to cater to a variety of aesthetic ideals. Additionally, digital filters and photo editing have created highly idealized images of beauty that often do not reflect reality.
Smoking and excessive alcohol consumption accelerate skin aging and lead to wrinkles.
THE FUTURE OF BEAUTY: SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY
Scientific advancements are continuously shaping the future of beauty and aesthetics. Some of the most promising research areas include:
Genome Editing –
Technologies like CRISPR could potentially allow for “editing” genes related to youthful skin and facial structure.
Anti-Aging Gene Therapy –Scientists are exploring ways to influence cells to slow down aging.
Bioengineering and 3D Tissue Printing – A possible future for aesthetic medicine, allowing the creation of new skin or hair tissues.
Nanotechnology – The development of skincare treatments that work on a cellular level to maintain skin elasticity and youthfulness. At the same time, personalized medicine is advancing, offering genetic tests that can help individuals choose optimal skincare, diet, and cosmetic procedures tailored to their unique DNA. This means that in the future, the concept of “natural beauty” could become even more customized and adjustable.
However, technological progress also raises ethical concerns. How far are we willing to go in altering our appearance? If genetic modifications become widely available, could they lead to the creation of “perfect” individuals and increase discrimination based on looks?
Conclusion: Beauty Is in Our Hands
So, does a “beauty gene” exist? Science suggests that attractiveness is not determined by a single gene but rather a combination of hereditary factors, lifestyle choices, and societal standards.
Yes, genetics shapes facial structure, eye color, and other physical traits. However, true attractiveness goes beyond genetics—it is a blend of confidence, self-care, individuality, and overall health.
Throughout history, beauty ideals have evolved, and what was once considered perfect may no longer be relevant today. In the modern world, technology allows
for adjustments to appearance, but ultimately, the most important factor remains the balance between inner and outer beauty
Even if you were not born with “perfect” genes, you have the power to look and feel attractive. Selfcare, a healthy lifestyle, proper nutrition, and selfconfidence can outweigh any genetic predisposition.
Beauty is not a formula— it is the art of embracing yourself.
Once upon a time, someone finds themselves at a crossroads. The world that once felt solid and secure can collapse in an instant. Some lose their jobs, others their homes, and some their health. In moments like these, having someone by your side—someone who won’t turn away and will help you get back on your feet—can make all the difference. That’s exactly what MISI Community Solutions does. For 16 years, the organization has been transforming lives and giving people a chance at a new, stable reality.
Alina Mukhopadhyay, CEO and co-founder of My Insurance Services Inc. (MISI), shares how MISI Community Solutions offers support and helps people keep their dreams of a better life alive.
One day, Alina realized she couldn’t just stand by and watch others suffer. She wasn’t seeking recognition— she simply believed help should be available to everyone. Three years ago, she faced a tough decision: launch a new support program or leave things as they were. Doubts crept in—would there be enough resources? But once she learned that the program could provide $5,000 to $6,000 in financial assistance, her doubts faded. She took the leap. That decision marked the beginning of a new chapter for MISI Community Solutions.
Life rarely prepares us for the unexpected. Job loss, serious illness, or financial disaster—any of these can turn your world upside down. But MISI doesn’t just offer short-term relief—it provides a real path to recovery. The organization is built on a core principle: help shouldn’t be random; it should be structured and sustainable.
through available options, help gather documentation, and assist in finding solutions.
The MISI team speaks over 12 languages, including Spanish, Russian, Ukrainian, Armenian, Farsi, Punjabi, and more. They are especially mindful of cultural differences. For many, the barrier isn’t just language—it’s also a lack of understanding
Today, the MISI team does more than offer assistance—they change lives, helping people through their most difficult moments. MISI works with leading insurance providers like Medi-Cal, Anthem, Partnership, HealthNet, and Molina. These partnerships enable MISI to provide timely, comprehensive support to those in need.
The program is state-funded and carried out through official contracts with partner organizations. Since its launch three years ago, its impact has been undeniable.
If someone has MediCal, they may qualify for more than just financial assistance—they can also access legal support, housing help, and medical services. The key is not to wait—the application process can take one to three weeks.
Even if someone doesn’t have insurance, MISI will not turn them away. Specialists guide clients
of how the system works. MISI’s compassionate, personalized approach helps clients feel understood and supported. Many people don’t even realize they qualify for help. Fear of red tape, lack of information, and limited support often stand in the way. MISI lifts that burden, helping clients rebuild their lives step by step.
Housing and financial assistance go hand in hand. If someone is living in overcrowded conditions or without a formal lease, they may already be eligible. The key factor is low income—up to $3,400 per month depending on family size. MISI helps clients find appropriate housing—whether it’s an apartment, house, duplex, or even a single room—as long as the rent aligns with income.
Funds are sent directly to landlords. The program covers both the first month’s rent and the security deposit (for example, if rent is $2,500, the assistance totals $5,000). In some cases, MISI also helps with mattresses and furniture through partner organizations, but only with prior approval. The support can also include help with moving, utility setups, and conflict resolution with landlords or neighbors. This aid is provided once in a person’s lifetime. However, if there are multiple adults in a household, each individual aged 18 and older can apply separately.
In November 2024, Alina was named Business Leader of the Year at the Best Business Awards Ceremony & Gala and received a government commendation from congresswomen Doris Matsui for her contributions to social services. The Sacramento Business Journal later honored her as “Businesswoman of the Year.”
BEHIND EACH CASE IS A REAL PERSON.
Take Maria, a single mother in Sacramento. After her divorce, she and her child became homeless. Her only hope was Medi-Cal—but she didn’t know it could lead to financial help. MISI not only found her housing and paid the rent, but also handled her move and covered her utilities for the first few months.
“I couldn’t believe it was real,” Maria says. “When you’re alone with a child, the world feels hostile. But for the first time, I felt like someone truly cared.”
MISI Community Solutions does more than provide financial support—it helps people believe in themselves and start fresh. It’s not just about giving money. It’s about providing real opportunities and showing people they’re not alone— that there’s always a way forward.
At MISI, they understand that hard times shouldn’t define a person’s future. Their support goes well beyond financial aid. They offer budgeting advice, emotional counseling, job
search assistance, training, and mentorship—all of which help lay a solid foundation for a new beginning.
Vlad’s story is just one of many. At 22, he lost both his parents and found himself completely alone. He struggled to balance school, work, and growing debt. Working two jobs to afford a tiny room, he grew exhausted and nearly gave up on his dream of earning a degree.
When he contacted MISI, everything changed. They helped him find stable housing, taught him how to manage his finances, and connected him with a job that fit around his class schedule. For the first time in a long time, Vlad felt secure.
“I finally feel like I can plan for the future,” he says. “Now I know I’m not alone—there are people who truly care.”
Every day, people come to MISI looking for a lifeline—those who’ve lost homes, faced illness, or experienced personal crises. And every time, the MISI team does all they can to restore hope and dignity.
But housing is just one part of the puzzle. Without good health, stability is hard to achieve. That’s why MISI launched its Health Care Management program—to help people navigate the complex healthcare system and get the services they need.
Each participant is assigned a personal case manager for a year. This person helps find doctors, schedule appointments, explain procedures, and provide translation services when necessary—especially vital for those with limited English.
Alexander, 58, had just undergone major heart surgery. Alone and overwhelmed, he didn’t know where to turn. The system felt like a maze.
Then he found MISI.
“They literally took me by the hand and led me through,” he recalls. “Without their help, I would have given up. They scheduled my appointments, helped with my documents, and even contacted the doctors to move things along. Now I feel like I’m not alone.”
There are countless stories like his. People who put off healthcare out of fear or confusion finally get treatment. Some discover conditions that could have been prevented. Others begin therapy or access life-saving medications. And some, like Alexander, rediscover faith in people.
Behind every story is the MISI team. They’re not just employees—they’re purpose-driven professionals committed to real impact. And their results speak for themselves: 79% of those who receive temporary support retain housing, find work, continue treatment, and stabilize their lives.
That number isn’t just a statistic—it’s proof that MISI transforms lives. Clients don’t just receive help—they gain strength, selfworth, and the confidence to move forward. Sometimes one step is all it takes to change everything. One day, Alexander believed someone would help. One day, the MISI team made the impossible happen. And stories like these “one day” moments are becoming more common every day.
Each year, MISI continues to grow. Offices in San Diego and Riverside are set to open soon, along with new programs for utility assistance, expanded healthcare, and more.
But behind every initiative are the people making it happen.
One day, Alina Mukhopadhyay opened a new chapter in MISI’s story.
She knew the road would be difficult, but she believed if even one life changed, it would be worth it. Today, her vision has become a full-scale support network helping thousands.
“When I got the letter from the Sacramento Business Journal, I honestly thought it was a joke!” she laughs. “But they were serious—they had been following our work. The awards ceremony is in two months. We’ll celebrate then.”
Alina isn’t just a successful leader—she’s also a mother of four, a loving wife, and someone who values family above all.
“After work, I give all my time to my kids,” she says. “My oldest is in college now, but I still have three at home—8, 15, and 17—and our dog, who’s truly a member of the family.”
“For my kids, he’s a playmate. For me, he’s comfort and unconditional love. Honestly, I think he understands me better than anyone,” she laughs.
She made a choice that changed thousands of lives. She proved that kindness can be organized, that support can be accessible, and that hope can be real.
Some lost everything but found hope again. Some regained their homes, their health, and their sense of security. One day, they believed life could be kinder.
Sometimes, one act of kindness can change a life—or even the world.
At MISI Community Solutions, they believe that. And so do the people whose stories began again—thanks to one compassionate decision.
One day… maybe your step will change someone’s life. Every new beginning starts with someone taking that first step.
What if today is your moment?

Dr. Yan Kalika founded his first orthodontic clinic, Image Orthodontics more than twenty-five years ago. Today, it is a network of over 40 clinics known for their innovations, professional approach, and best doctors.
We asked Dr. Kalika, about modern approaches to orthodontics, technologies for creating a “Hollywood smile,” and the use of artificial intelligence in diagnostics.
Many parents already know that children should see a dentist at an early age. When should a child first visit an orthodontist?
The American Association of Orthodontists recommends the first visit at age 7. This is related to the epidemic of small jaws, which was recently discussed by researchers from Stanford University. Due to changes in diet, lack of hard foods, and insufficient load on the chewing muscles, modern people’s jaws have become smaller, leading to a lack of space for teeth.
If teeth appear straight, should a visit to the orthodontist still be scheduled?
Yes. Absolutely. A child should see a dentist as soon as the first tooth appears, and an orthodontist at 7 years. Even if everything looks normal visually, only a specialist can detect potential issues. For example, parents may not notice that there is no space for the upper canines to erupt, but an X-ray will immediately reveal this problem.
Some people avoid seeing doctors if they have no discomfort, trying to save money.
In our clinics, consultations are free. You only need to pay for the treatment itself. Preventing a problem is always less expensive and easier than fixing it later. Moreover, it is important to teach children oral hygiene from an early age, and pediatric dentistry helps with this. We have noticed that pediatric dentists often do not refer young patients to an orthodontist on time, so we have developed both specialties in our clinics.
People say that pacifiers ruin the bite. Is that true?
periodontitis. You should visit the dentist every six months for deep cleanings. Many research articles have been published on bacteria in the oral cavity, which can enter the bloodstream and affect the liver and heart. Some research even suggests a connection between oral bacteria and Alzheimer’s disease. That’s why it is crucial to maintain oral health.
How dangerous is a misaligned bite?
A proper bite is an essential component of overall health. If the bite is incorrect, the vertical pressure between the upper and lower teeth contributes to bone loss between them. For adults, it is crucial to have a properly aligned bite to ensure correct pressure distribution between the upper and lower teeth. Open airways are also important. There are many cases of sleep apnea today, where people snore, have no space for their tongue in the oral cavity, and block their airways. When a person sleeps, this can lead to oxygen deprivation in the brain. Children also experience these issues, which manifest as attention deficit and difficulty concentrating. An orthodontist can help address these problems. Often, especially with children, we work as a team with an otolaryngologist (ear, nose, and throat specialist) since some issues, such as a deviated nasal septum, may also be present.

If a child stops using a pacifier before 3 years old, baby teeth return to their natural position. So the claim that pacifiers change the bite is a myth. However, there are harmful habits that lead to bite issues, such as thumbsucking or incorrect tongue positioning. In such cases, we teach children where their tongue should be positioned and provide special exercises. Sometimes, we even place special appliances to prevent thumb-sucking.
Can you get a “Hollywood smile” as an adult?
Teeth can be straightened at any age, but jaw expansion is only possible up to around age 50. After that, surgical intervention is required.
Can chewing gum help correct a bite?
No, it is not hard enough for that. Moreover, it contains sugar, which causes cavities.
What should be done to maintain healthy teeth for a long time?
If properly cared for, teeth can last a lifetime. The most important thing is to monitor gum health to prevent
There is a belief that braces damage teeth and cause cavities. Is that true?
In the past, this could happen if children did not brush their teeth properly, leading to enamel damage around the braces. Today, materials have improved significantly, and these issues are no longer a concern. The key is to maintain proper oral hygiene.
If a child or adult does not want to wear braces, is there an alternative?
Since we are advancing in digital dentistry and AI usage, we can now model everything on a computer and straighten teeth not only with braces but also with clear aligners.
Can you show the patient in advance what their results will look like?
Yes, we model the entire treatment process on a computer, including the initial and final tooth alignment, as well as the treatment duration. Ten years ago, this was impossible, but today, we can scan teeth without radiation and accurately predict the outcome.
Some people complain about jaw clicking. Can an orthodontist help?
Yes, this is precisely our field. The temporomandibular joint is a complex mechanism, and an orthodontist can restore its proper function.
Are headaches related to jaw problems?
In 80% of cases, headaches are not caused by blood vessels or nerves, but by muscle tension related to a misaligned bite. This also affects posture—people instinctively push their heads forward to breathe better, leading to slouching and chronic pain.
How long does orthodontic treatment take?
The shortest treatment lasts six months. For children aged 7–10 years, it takes about a year; for teenagers and adults, up to 18 months. In complex cases, treatment can take up to two years.
What insurance plans does your clinic accept?
We accept all insurance plans. Additionally, if there are any financial difficulties, we offer our internal financing plans to ensure that patients receive affordable treatment. We can spread payments over several years, as we strive to ensure that money is never a barrier to proper care.
Your clinic is considered one of the most innovative. How do you use artificial intelligence?
AI assists in diagnostics: our program, which I helped develop, analyzes X-rays and identifies issues. This simplifies the doctor’s work and speeds up diagnosis. AI also helps patients through a virtual assistant.
Do you use AI in business management?
Yes, AI analyzes large amounts of data and helps make strategic decisions.
If a patient started treatment in another country, would you accept them?
Many doctors do not want to take on patients whose treatment was started elsewhere. But someone has to help these patients. We accept such patients and continue their treatment.
If a patient is new to the United States and does not speak English well, will they feel comfortable in your clinic?
Yes, our offices have staff who speak Ukrainian, Russian, Moldovan, Spanish, and other languages. If the doctor does not speak the necessary language, an assistant is always available to help.

Is Obesity a Business or a Real Problem?
Obesity is not just a health issue—it has become a massive industry.
Social media is flooded with ads for miracle pills, weight loss powders, and expensive subscription-based apps promising effortless weight loss. But if these methods actually worked, why do over 40% of U.S. adults still struggle with obesity?
The truth is, most of these “quick-fix” solutions are marketing tactics, not science. They provide temporary or no results because they fail to address the root causes of obesity. For those who have been battling excess weight for years, bariatric surgery is a real, scientifically proven solution— not a gimmick.
WHEN IS SURGERY THE RIGHT CHOICE?
Bariatric surgery is a medically approved treatment for individuals who:
• Have a Body Mass Index (BMI) of 34 or higher, which qualifies them for gastric sleeve surgery.
• Suffer from serious obesity-related conditions, such as Type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, or heart disease.
• Have tried dieting, exercise, and other weight loss programs but failed to achieve long-term results.
Surgery is not an “easy way out”—it’s a serious, effective medical intervention that helps patients lose weight and dramatically improve their overall health.
WHY SURGERY WORKS WHEN “MIRACLE” SOLUTIONS FAIL
Most advertised weight-loss products are designed for profit, not results. They promise rapid weight loss but rarely provide sustainable outcomes.
WHY BARIATRIC SURGERY IS EFFECTIVE:
• Proven by Science: Decades of research confirm its safety and effectiveness.
• Customized for Each Patient: The procedure is selected based on your health needs.
• Improves Overall Health: Surgery not only reduces weight but also treats conditions linked to obesity.
THE MOST EFFECTIVE BARIATRIC PROCEDURES
GASTRIC SLEEVE SURGERY (SLEEVE GASTRECTOMY)
How It Works
Removes 80% of the stomach, reducing food intake and hunger hormone levels (ghrelin).
Best for Patients with BMI of 34 or higher.
Expected Results
Up to 60% of excess weight loss within the first year.
GASTRIC BYPASS SURGERY (ROUX-EN-Y GASTRIC BYPASS)
How It Works
Creates a small stomach pouch connected directly to the small intestine, bypassing a portion of the digestive tract.
Best for Patients with Type 2 diabetes or severe metabolic disorders.
Expected Results
Up to 70% of excess weight loss within the first year.
COMPARISON OF BARIATRIC SURGERY METHODS
COST OF BARIATRIC SURGERY IN THE U.S. VS. MEXICO
In the U.S., bariatric surgery costs range from $10,000 to $20,000. However, many patients choose Mexico for high-quality care at a lower price.
LIFE AFTER SURGERY: HOW TECHNOLOGY HELPS
Surgery is not the final step—maintaining results requires a healthy lifestyle, and technology can help patients stay on track:
• Fitness Trackers (Apple Watch, Fitbit) monitor activity levels, steps, and sleep.
• Nutrition Apps (MyFitnessPal, Lose It!) help track calories and ensure proper nutrition.
• Smart Scales (Withings, Eufy) analyze body composition, measuring fat, muscle, and hydration.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQ)
Q: Can weight return after surgery?
A: Yes, if a healthy lifestyle is not maintained. However, most patients successfully keep the weight off long-term with proper diet and exercise.
Q: What are the risks of bariatric surgery?
A: As with any surgery, there are risks, but the complication rate is less than 2%.
Q: How do I choose the right clinic?
A: Look for experienced surgeons, patient reviews, and internationally accredited facilities.
Q: Why is bariatric surgery cheaper in Mexico?
A: Lower healthcare costs make surgery more affordable, but top Mexican clinics follow the same international medical standards as the U.S.
OBESITY: IT’S TIME TO TAKE ACTION
With so many marketing scams and “miracle” weight loss solutions, it’s easy to feel lost. But real change requires real solutions.
Bariatric surgery is not magic—it’s a scientifically proven, life-changing tool. If you’re tired of failed weight loss attempts, it might be time to explore a method that actually works.
At Clinica San Juan (Mexico), the prices are:
Gastric Sleeve Surgery: $3,850 – $4,000
Gastric Bypass Surgery: $5,200 – $5,500
Mexico has become a top destination for medical tourism because its hospitals offer world-class standards at a fraction of the U.S. price.
“Surgery didn’t do the work for me—but it gave me the chance to succeed.”
REAL PATIENT STORY:
Linda from Texas
Linda had tried everything—pills, restrictive diets, detox programs—but nothing worked. When her weight reached 135 kg (297 lbs) and doctors diagnosed her with Type 2 diabetes, she knew it was time for a serious change.
She chose gastric sleeve surgery.
“It was the best decision I’ve ever made,” Linda says. “A year later, I’ve lost 45 kg (99 lbs), my blood sugar is normal, and I finally feel like I have my life back.”
Your health is the greatest investment you can make in yourself. Take the first step today.

Turning 50 marks the beginning of an extraordinary time in life. With children grown, a career well-established, and decades ahead, this stage is not about limitations but opportunities. So, how do you restart your life, find new inspiration, and rediscover joy? Here’s a practical guide with actionable advice to help you begin.
1. REFLECT ON YOUR OPPORTUNITIES AND DREAMS
Many people over 50 feel uncertain, fearing they’ve missed out on certain opportunities. However, this age gives you the freedom to explore new paths. Start with an honest conversation with yourself:
• What have I always wanted to do but never had the chance?
• What skills or interests would I love to develop?
• What truly brings me joy? Write down your ideas—small and big. Maybe you’ve dreamed of learning a new skill, starting your own business, or traveling the world. It’s never too late to make your dreams a reality.
2. INVEST IN YOUR PHYSICAL AND MENTAL
HEALTH
Your physical and emotional well-being form the foundation of any successful restart. At 50+, it’s essential to care for your body and mind:
• Physical activity: Find activities you enjoy, like swimming, yoga, or even dancing. Just 30 minutes a day can boost your energy.
• Emotional resilience: Try meditation or keep a gratitude journal to reduce stress and improve your outlook on life.
• Regular health checkups: Stay on top of your medical care to prevent potential issues.
Your health is your greatest asset for pursuing any goals.
3. DON’T BE AFRAID TO CHANGE CAREERS
Can you really start a new career at 50? Absolutely! If your current job no longer inspires you, it might be time to explore other options:
• Skill development: Take training courses or attend workshops. Learn about technology, marketing, or other new industries.
• Part-time work: If a full-time job feels overwhelming, consider freelancing or project-based work.
• Starting your own business: Use your experience and expertise to mentor or consult in your field.
The possibilities are endless.
4. DEDICATE TIME TO LEARNING
Modern technology makes it easy to learn from anywhere. Use this to your advantage to gain new knowledge and skills:
• Online courses on platforms like Coursera or Udemy, covering topics from coding to art.
• Hands-on workshops for cooking, photography, or interior design.
• Books, podcasts, and lectures to keep your mind sharp and inspired.
Learning keeps your brain active and opens doors to new horizons.
5. EXPAND YOUR SOCIAL CIRCLE
As we age, our social circles can shrink, but this can be reversed. Building connections is vital for emotional well-being:
• Join hobby groups, volunteer organizations, or online communities.
• Participate in community events or reconnect with old friends.
CONCLUSION: START SMALL
Transforming your life doesn’t require dramatic changes all at once. Begin with small, achievable steps:
1. Set one goal for the next month (e.g., take up an exercise routine or enroll in a class).
2. Track your progress—celebrate even the smallest wins.
3. Try new things—eventually, you’ll find what truly excites and motivates you.
• Explore new relationships—romantic or platonic. A strong support system enriches your life and provides motivation.
6. NURTURE YOUR CREATIVITY
Creativity isn’t just for artists—it’s for everyone. Expressing yourself creatively brings joy and opens the door to personal growth:
• Start painting, writing, or taking photographs.
• Learn to play a musical instrument or explore dance classes.
• Create with your hands—whether it’s gardening, pottery, or crafting.
Creative pursuits can be both therapeutic and inspiring.
7. BUILD A FINANCIAL PLAN
Financial stability is crucial for peace of mind. Here’s how to approach it at this stage of life:
• Reevaluate your expenses and look for ways to save.
• Explore investment opportunities or ways to generate passive income.
• Plan for hobbies, travel, and learning without compromising your long-term financial goals.
If you’re unsure where to start, a financial advisor can help you develop a plan.
Life after 50 is just the beginning. The sooner you take action, the sooner you’ll rediscover joy, inspiration, and purpose. Remember, age is not a limitation—it’s a fresh start.

When it comes to managing expenses, small business owners are always looking for ways to maximize deductions and reduce their tax burden.
One common question I hear is: “Can I deduct health insurance costs for my business?” The short answer is yes, but the details depend on your business structure and the type of coverage you provide. Here’s what you need to know.
DEDUCTIONS FOR BUSINESSES OFFERING EMPLOYEE HEALTH INSURANCE
For small businesses that provide health insurance to employees, there’s good news: the premiums you pay are fully deductible as a business expense. This includes coverage for your employees’ spouses and dependents if they’re part of the plan.
If you’re part of a partnership, an LLC with multiple members, or own more than 2% of an S corporation, the rules can get a bit more complex. In these cases, health insurance deductions might flow
through to your personal return, depending on how the business is structured. That’s where professional tax guidance can make a big difference.
For employees, health insurance contributions aren’t directly deductible on their personal tax returns. However, if your business offers a Section 125 Plan, also known as a Premium Only Plan (POP), employees can pay their portion of premiums with pre-tax dollars. This reduces their taxable income, resulting in more take-home pay.
HEALTH INSURANCE DEDUCTIONS FOR SOLE PROPRIETORS
If you’re a sole proprietor or own a single-member LLC, deducting health insurance premiums is relatively straightforward. You can claim the cost of your health insurance as an “above-the-line” deduction on your personal tax return, which means you don’t have to itemize deductions to take advantage of it. However, keep in mind that certain eligibility rules apply, and it’s wise to consult with a tax professional to ensure accuracy.
ADDITIONAL DEDUCTION OPPORTUNITIES
Even if you’re not offering a traditional group health insurance plan, there may still be tax advantages available. For example, businesses with fewer than 50 employees can set up a Qualified Small Employer Health Reimbursement Arrangement (QSEHRA). This allows you to reimburse employees for certain medical expenses, including health insurance premiums, without those reimbursements being considered taxable income.
QSEHRAs can be a flexible, cost-effective option for small businesses that want to support employee health without the complexity of managing a group health plan.

WHY STAYING INFORMED MATTERS
Tax laws are constantly evolving, and what’s deductible this year may change the next. Federal and state regulations vary, and the details can be complicated. That’s why it’s essential to work with a CPA or tax professional who understands the nuances of business deductions, especially when it comes to health insurance.
HEALTH SAVINGS ACCOUNTS (HSAS) AND HIGH DEDUCTIBLE HEALTH PLANS (HDHPS)
If your business offers a High Deductible Health Plan (HDHP), your employees may be eligible to open a Health Savings Account (HSA).
As an employer, any contributions you make to your employees’ HSAs are tax-deductible for your business.
HSA contribution limits for 2024:
• Self-only coverage: $4,150
• Family coverage: $8,300
• Catch-up contribution (age 55+): Additional $1,000
For 2025, these limits are slightly higher:
• Self-only coverage: $4,300
• Family coverage: $8,500
• Catch-up contribution remains at $1,000
Pairing an HDHP with a POP can significantly reduce payroll taxes—potentially saving your business 25% to 40% on payroll deductions.
FINAL THOUGHTS
Offering health insurance isn’t just about tax savings— it’s a smart strategy for attracting and retaining top talent. It also helps create a healthier, more productive workforce, which benefits your business in the long run.
