FROM THE GAFFAS I would like to say a waem welcome to you all and welcome all the fans, players and staff from Litherland REMYCA to Runcorn Town tonight along with all our fans. I hope you all enjoy the game. Firstly I am delighted for the players & people of the club to get a much deserved win at Barnoldswick Town on Saturday. We know it’s been a long time coming and it felt good to finally get the 3 points on the board. It was a game in which whoever managed the conditions better was going to win. I felt we did that extremely well. The difference I felt in having took the lead at Skem to taking the lead on Barnoldswick was the key experience in John Davies & Gary Roberts alongside Adam Reid, Joe Holt & Liam Turner which allowed them to manage the game better as a group and guide the team. I felt first half we were good value against a very strong wind. Although at times we were pegged in. We still had the best chances and even though we’d took the lead I was happy to go in 1st half at 1-1.
The second half the game plan paid off and we were able to peg them back in there half with the wind behind us. On a very, very difficult pitch I thought the lads shown good quality with the ball and was made up to see Sam Hughes hit the back of the net. We continued to keep playing in the same manor. The final five minutes of the game I made a decision to go more defensive to see out the win. With the wind dropping this invited Barnoldswick onto us for the last part. We rode our luck in all honesty but probably got the luck we deserved over the last few weeks which we haven’t had. It’s vitally important now that the lads back up that result this evening against Litherland REMYCA. It's a massive six pointer, but we come into the game full of confidence and will be going all out for the win tonight. I will see you all in the bar after the game, hopefully with three points in the bag!

LITHERLAND REMYCA WE TAKE A LOOK AT LITHERLAND'S MANAGER, AND PICK A PLAYER TO WATCH OUT FOR THIS AFTERNOON
Colin McDonald
James Hammill
Colin McDonald rightly goes down as a Litherland REMYCA legend since joining the club during the 2014/15 season.
He doesn't turn 20 until next month but the one player to look out for this evening for REMYCA is certainly James Hammill.
Since then he has gone on to make 159 appearances for the club and has scored 68 goals.
He has so far made 49 appearances in a REMYCA shirt so tonight should bring up his half century.... if he plays. We say that because he has been on the substitutes bench in each of the last three games, although he has come on in all three games.
His best season for REMYCA in terms of appearances was in 2017/18 when he played 43 times. In terms of goals scored it was 2016/17 when he found the net 23 times. Colin doesn't play himself much these days since being appointed as manager in September 2021, with just two appearances from the subs bench this season.
So far this season James has made 28 appearances of which seven have been from the subs bench. He has scored seven goals and has picked up the Man of the Match award chosen by the opposition seven times, four more than any other player.

ABOUT OUR VISITORS A BRIEF LOOK AT THEHISTORY OF LITHERLAND REMYCA
Litherland REMYCA FC began life in the Seaforth area of Liverpool as St Thomas F.C. (1959). Players were recruited mainly from Seaforth and Bootle, and the team later became known as Bootle C.L.B. (Church Lads Brigade). Links were formed with Bootle YMCA which provided a club base and training facilities. In 1967, a local workingman’s club offered to finance the the club. One year later, REMYCA United came into being, the name deriving from connections with both REM Social Club and Bootle YMCA. The team, after successive championships and earning a reputation for playing attractive football, were accepted into the I-Zingari League. The founder members of REMYCA Utd, Bill and Ken Edwards, acted as managers having recently given up their playing careers. The

Cup
was
claimed in the 1975/76 season as REMYCA began to establish itself as a force within amateur football on Merseyside. The formation of a Premier League led to the club being becoming inaugural members. This demanded improved playing facilities and the club left its spiritual home at Moss Lane, Litherland to move to Maghull High School. A former player, Steve Smith, became manager and began building a squad capable of competing with the best amateur sides in the region. REMYCA Utd became the I Zingari League Champions in the 1987/88 season and in 1991 became one of the few Merseyside Teams to win the all Lancashire FA Amateur Cup. The 1990’s was a significant period in the club’s history, and the most successful, as both Premier League and Cup doubles were achieved in seasons 1993/94, 1994/95 and 1995/96 followed by again winning the Challenge Cup in the
1998/99 season. This period of dominance and success resulted in REMYCA Utd seeking entry to the Liverpool County Combination League to test itself at a higher level again. REMYCA are now based at Litherland Sports Park, with a mid to long term aim to work with the council to identify a site and build a community facility for all sides under the REMYCA banner as well as the local area. In 2013, the Management Committee of REMYCA began exploring the potential to grow and develop the club. The aim is for a sustainable club - a community based model offering football opportunity with good coaching to all ages from seven years upwards. The first stage of the new development plan was to add Litherland to the club name so as to identify with the local area and enhance the community ethos of the club. The club then applied, and secured a league position worthy of promotion to the NWCFL in 2014. In their first season, the club finished 9th and reached the semi final of the Reusch Cup, only to be beaten by Atherton Colls. A first ever appearance in the LCFA Senior Cup saw the club beaten by Skelmersdale United. Phil Stafford was given the job as first team manager. In his second season, he led the club to a thrilling battle for promotion, the club losing in the PlayOff Final against City of Liverpool in front of 1,303 supporters. In March 2016, Everton visited in the travel to LSP and with REMYCA winning
by a goal to nil. This game put the club on the map, and boosted their profile and reputation. At the end of that season, Stafford moved on with Paul McNally handed the task of leading REMYCA from the beginning of the 2017/18 season. McNally guided the club to its first ever promotion and the highest level of football in its history. The club also made their first ever appearance in the FA Cup, beating AFC Liverpool 2-0 in a game live streamed live across the World on BBC iPlayer. In a shock turn of events, McNally left the club at before a ball was kicked of the next season, James Olsen taking over. However James only lasted a few months before Stafford took over in December 2018 for his second spell as manager. The 2019/20 season was one where Litherland struggled, sitting in the bottom two when the season was prematurely ended by the Covid-19 pandemic. The following season saw just five league games before the season was again curtailed. November 2020 saw Phil Stafford leave the club with Derek Goulding appointed in January 2021. The 2021/22 season has seen Litherland again struggling, and they opted for a change in manager once more in September 2021 with the club failing to win any of their first ten games of the season. Striker Colin McDonald was appointed as the new manager, with Michael Ordish as his assistant.

WE'VE MET BEFORE WE HAVE ONLY MET REMYCA SIX TIMES, ALTHOUGH WE DO HAVE THE UPPER HAND Runcorn Town and Litherland REMYCA have met just five times, the first coming on Saturday 5th September 2015 in what was REMYCA's first ever match in the F.A. Carlsberg Vase.
October 2019 brought Litherland twice to the Viridor Community Stadium in successive midweeks. Firstly on the 2nd for a league game which finished 1-1.
This was the 1st Qualifying Round at Pavilions, and it was a perfect start with Curtis Cummins laying the ball into the path of Stuart Welstead who placed it firmly into the bottom corner. It was two on 14 minutes when Welstead was brought down in the penalty area, Paul Shanley stepping up to score from the spot, with Shanley making it three on 33 minutes with a superb volley.
The deadlock was broken after 61 minutes, Litherland's James Law slotted the ball past Marcus Burgess after a one-on-one. Ten minutes later Town were back level, Joe Holt getting on the end of a cross from the left and poking the ball into the bottom right corner.
Litherland brought themselves back into it in added on time when Jamie Colbourn scored with a precise shot from 18 yards, Town secured victory in the 84th minute when Rob Ablewhite curled a superb shot into the top corner from 20 yards. Karl Berquist got a late second goal for REMYCA in added on time with a volley from 18 yards. We had to wait over three years til the next meeting, that coming on Saturday 12th January 2019 with REMYCA's only win in this fixture. After a goalless first half, REMYCA took the lead on 55 minutes when they countered quickly from a Runcorn corner with striker Lennon Whewell firing in an 18 yard shot. Whewell doubled the lead in the 60th minute, heading home a back post cross from Colbourne. Danny Byrnes headed home a Mike Burke cross on 78 minutes but REMYCA held on for the win. April 2019 was the return game, with Runcorn getting off to a flying start when Carl Rodgers volleyed home from 20 yards. Colin McDonald was sent off after just six minutes, and that was the highlights, Runcorn winning 1-0!
This game also saw red cards for Shaun Weaver and Paul Foy in the last minute of the game, both for second yellow cards in different incidents. The 9th saw a Liverpool Senior Cup game with Runcorn Town ahead after just two minutes with Paul McManus drilling home after Craig Cairns' shot was blocked. Runcorn made it 2-0 after 55 minutes, Dave Forbes' shot saved before Joe Holt tapped the rebound into the bottom right corner. Within a minute it was 3-0, with Dave Forbes pressurising Travis Wilson who made the clearance, this fell to Craig Cairns who then slotted the ball home. Litherland reduced the arrears on 73 minutes with a header from Lewis Codling, but Town made sure of the win two minutes into stoppage time when Cairns set up Joe Holt who shot from inside the area, Wilson got a hand to it but could not keep the ball from going in the net. The sixth and final meeting was our earlier meeting this season, and it was our first three points of the season. Town took the on 21 minutes when a poor back pass couldn’t be controlled by Ciaran O’Loughlin in the Litherland goal and Craig Cairns was well positioned to fire the loose ball into the net.

Runcorn Town were beaten 5-2 by high flying Skelmersdale United at JMO Sports Park on Tuesday night.
off the line. Another chance came shortly after from Holt's corner which was headed wide by Richie Foulkes.
There were 2 changes from Saturday Liam Turner and Levi Chiduku coming in for John Davies and Gary Roberts.
A minute later Skelmersdale went ahead for the first time. Elliot Morris cut in from the right and his ball across goal was tucked away by Mitchley at the far post.
Town started well and took an early lead. Liam Turner’s long throw wasn’t dealt with and Richie Foulkes flicked on for Tom Ruffer to poke home. Town increased their lead on 29 minutes. Skelmersdale were caught in possession playing out from the back - Sam Hughes did well to nick the ball and pulled back to Joe Holt to thump home from 20 yards. Skelmersdale came back into the game and began to create chances. On 31 minutes Callum Preston's shot from distance was pushed away by Adam Reid. Then Reid made another save to deny Michael Howard and Danny Mitchley’s follow up shot was blocked by Turner On 35 minutes Mitchley got one back for Skelmersdale with a decent finish from the edge of the box. Skelmersdale equalised on 53 minutes. Lloyd Ellams got free down the left and his ball into the box was cleared out to Joe Nicholson who fired in from the edge of the box. Town responded and almost went back ahead on the hour when Holt's shot was saved then Ruffer's header was cleared
Town were getting penned in by the gale force wind and driving rain. Michael Howard's free kick from 25 yards was not far over the bar. Then Howard shot into side netting and Mitchley’s shot from the edge of box was saved by Reid. The pressure finally led to a fourth goal on 68 minutes. Skelmersdale counter attacked from a Town corner and Howard was put through on goal to finish past Reid. In injury time Skelmersdale sealed the win - Elliot Morris running onto a through ball from Alex Griffiths and smashing his shot past Reid. Joint Manager Niall McGuinness reflected on a tough evening and looks to take the positives into a massive week ahead. "It was a disappointing result again for us on Tuesday, but I think there was a lot of positives we can take forward We started the game well and to take a 2-0 lead away to 2nd in the league was positive. I was very disappointed though at the naivety we showed not to get into half time at 2-0. However that’s where we’re at the moment with the lack of experience amongst the group with 7 key experienced players out injured."

Runcorn Town picked up a much needed 3 points with a win at Barnoldswick Town on Saturday afternoon. New signing Bobbie McDonnell came straight into the starting XI with Danny Hamlett and Zak El-Beshri on the bench. Town started on the front foot and on 7 minutes Frankie Antoine did well down the left and cut into the box but his shot was comfortable for the keeper. On 11 minutes Ben Ashton cut the ball back to Zack Dale whose shot brought a good save from Adam Reid. Town then forced a couple of corners and from the second Gary Roberts’ ball in was met by Tom Ruffer and his header was deflected over. Town took the lead on 19 minutes. Ruffer’s through ball put McDonnell in on goal and he finished confidently past the keeper. Barnoldswick then forced a couple of corners that were just about dealt with. Alex Ralph then had a shot straight from the edge of the box straight at Reid. The home side equalised on 35 minutes. Kasom Shah’s cross from the left was met by Ben Ashton with a great header to give Reid no chance. Ruffer went close for Town just before half time - Roberts’ cross from the right was volleyed just wide. Town had the better of the play at the
start of the second half with the wind and rain mostly at their backs. On 55 minutes Liam Turner's cross was blocked and the ball fell to Joe Holt whose instictive shot was well saved by Jordan Gidley. Then from a Town corner Roberts’ ball in was headed out to Holt and his volley was deflected over the bar. On 74 mins Town took the lead again with a well worked goal. Dom McHugh's ball down the left fed McDonnell who set up Sam Hughes to take a touch and finish left footed into the bottom corner, his first goal for the club. Town dropped deeper as they tired and in the last 10 minutes Barnoldswick had chances to snatch an equaliser. Kamar Moncrieffe's cross from the right was met by Gareth Hill and Reid made an unbelievable save, then the loose ball was scrambled away by a combination of Turner and Hughes. The hosts went close again on 88 minutes when a ball into the box foud its way through to Kuda Chingwaro at the far post and he dragged his shot right across goal. Town survived a couple more nervous moments in injury time - Gareth Hill’s shot from a tight angle was brilliantly pushed round the post by Reid. Then Kuda Chingwaro shot narrowly over. But Town hung on for what should be a confidence boosting win ahead of another massive game on Tuesday against Litherland REMYCA.

LAWS OF THE GAME THE GOLDEN GOALS RULE The Laws of the Game (also known as LOTG) are the official rules in football. The LOTG are set and updated annually by the International Football Association Board (IFAB). The board consists of eight members, four of which come from FIFA, and the other four coming from England, Scotland, Northern Ireland, and Wales – all countries that contributed to the development of the sport. Throughout the 2021/22 season, we have covered all 17 laws, as well as looking at temporary laws. Today we look at how the laws of the game came into force. In the nineteenth century, the word "football" could signify a wide variety of games in which players attempted to move a ball into an opponent's goal. The first published rules of "football" were those of Rugby School (1845), which permitted extensive handling, quickly followed by the Eton field game (1847), which was much more restrictive of handling the ball. Between the 1830s and 1850s, a number of sets of rules were created for use at Cambridge University — but they were generally not published at the time, and many have subsequently been lost. The first detailed sets of rules published by football clubs (rather than a school or university) were those of Sheffield FC (written 1858, published 1859) which codified a game played for 20 years until being discontinued in favour of the Football Association code, and those of Melbourne FC (1859) which are the origins of Australian Rules Football. By the time the Football Association
22
met in late 1863, many different sets of rules had been published, varying widely on such questions as the extent to which the ball could be handled, the treatment of offside, the amount of physical contact allowed with opponents, and the height at which a goal could be scored. In 1863, some football clubs followed the example of Rugby School by allowing the ball to be carried in the hands, with players allowed to "hack" (kick in the shins) opponents who were carrying the ball. Other clubs forbade both practices. During the FA meetings to draw up the first version of the laws, there was an acrimonious division between the "hacking" and "non-hacking" clubs. An FA meeting of 17 November 1863 discussed this question, with the "hacking" clubs predominating. The first draft of the Football Association's laws, drawn up by FA's secretary Ebenezer Cobb Morley, reflected this preference, containing many features that would today be considered closer
to rugby than association football. A further meeting was scheduled in order to finalise ("settle") the laws. At this crucial 24 November meeting, the "hackers" were again in a narrow majority. During the meeting, however, Morley brought the delegates' attention to a recently published set of football laws from Cambridge University which banned carrying and hacking. Discussion of the Cambridge rules, and suggestions for possible communication with Cambridge on the subject, served to delay the final "settlement" of the laws to a further meeting, on 1 December. A number of representatives who supported rugby-style football did not attend this additional meeting, resulting in hacking and carrying being banned. Francis Campbell of Blackheath, the most prominent "hacking" club, accused FA President Arthur Pember, Morley, and their allies of managing the 24 November meeting improperly in order to prevent the "pro-hacking" laws from being adopted. Pember strongly denied such an "accusation of ungentlemanly conduct". The verdicts of later historians have been mixed: Young accuses Campbell of "arrogance", while Harvey supports Campbell's allegations, accusing the non-hackers of a "coup" against the pro-hacking clubs. One of the leading clubs Blackheath, along with the other "hacking" clubs, would leave the FA as a result of this dispute. The final version of the FA's laws was formally adopted and published in December 1863. There were some notable differences from the modern game and we will cover these in the next issue.
At its meeting on 8 December 1863, the FA agreed that, as reported in Bell's Life in London, John Lillywhite would publish the Laws. The first game to be played under the new rules was a 0–0 draw between Barnes and Richmond. Adoption of the laws was not universal among English football clubs. The popular Sheffield Rules continued to be used by many. Several games were played between Sheffield and London teams, using both sets of rules. After several disputes, the two codes were unified in 1877 when the Sheffield FA voted to adopt the FA laws, following the adoption of a compromise throw-in law by the FA. Additionally, in preference of a more physical game with greater emphasis on handling of the ball, several decided against being part of the FA in its early years and would later form the Rugby Football Union in 1871. Minor variations between the rules used in England (the jurisdiction of the Football Association) and the other Home Nations of the United Kingdom, Scotland, Wales and Ireland, led to the creation of the International Football Association Board (IFAB) to oversee the rules for all the home nations. Their first meeting was in 1886. Before this, teams from different countries had to agree to which country's rules were used before playing. When the international football body on the continent FIFA was founded in Paris in 1904, it immediately declared that FIFA would adhere to the rules laid down by the IFAB. The growing popularity of the international game led to the admittance of FIFA representatives to the IFAB in 1913.

Following on from Big Kev's piece on Page 27, we found out a little bit more about the Scilly league. The league had been attempting to get into the Guinness World Records for the smallest league in the world. However, that was something that they succeeded in doing during 2006 under the title ‘Smallest affiliated football league’. However back in 2019, they also became the first football league in the world to use what we now know as VAR, but with a slight twist. Thanks to the new 5G Vodafone network who sponsored it, the first game of the season saw a world-first test of FAR, or Fan-Assistant Refereeing. Viewers then voted on controversial match incidents to help the referee make decisions. In total, 10 supporters around the Isles, including a fisherman, a young couple and a woman working in a local pub, were equipped with Samsung S10 5G handsets to watch the live stream. They each received a live stream of the match, and were able to review incidents just after they happened. Instead of catching up on the ref’s decisions after the game, the 10 supporters were able to have their own say on several fouls, a disputed goal, and two contested penalties as the game was being played Following a quick vote, their decisions
MORE SCILLY STUFF were then relayed to Paul Charnock, the match official and former first division linesman, at pitch side. The Woolpack Wanderers won the match 4-3 with just minutes to spare. Chairman of the Isles of Scilly Football League Anthony ‘Gibbo’ Gibbons said: “I have never seen the referee so happy after a game. He was empowered by the other islanders to make bold decisions – and not always in my team’s favour! Vodafone’s involvement with the league has got everyone excited.” Vodafone UK’s Chief Executive Officer Nick Jeffery said “This was great fun for the fans, and we’re very happy to have been the first network operator to take 5G to the Isles of Scilly.” Following the success of the world’s first 5G-enabled Fan-Assistant Referee test, Vodafone said it will now work alongside local businesses looking to boost tourism on the islands. Vodafone signed a two-year 5G sponsorship agreement with St Mary’s Association Football Club in June. You can watch a five minute clip of the FAR match on YouTube at the following link. It is well worth watching!! https://www.youtube.com/ watch?v=eibTrpZD6a0&t=1s

The last game here at the Viridor Community Stadium saw Irlam hit a late goal to win 2-1. Millen Brown put them ahead with Richie Foulkes equalising before Ethan Cartwright won it four minutes from time. It was a night for away wins, with Vauxhall Motors winning at Winsford United by the same scoreline, former Town man Kev Exell seeing red there. Avro won 1-0 at Prestwich Heys, with AFC Liverpool romping to a 5-0 win at Ashton Athletic, with five different goalscorers for the Reds. The following night, Longridge Town also won 5-0, this against Northwich Victoria. Connor Martin scored a brace for the Lancashire side. Onto the weekend games and there was one early game, that coming at Litherland REMYCA and their final home game of the groundshare at Bootle before they moved back home after storm damage. Longridge were the visitors and they went ahead before REMYCA came back to win 3-1, Johnny Foy scoring twice. Saturday saw us without a game. Elsewhere Mr Exell put his red card behind him by scoring twice in a 5-0 win for Winsford over Prestwich, with Sam Madeley also scoring twice there. Another former Town man on target was Chris Bandell, who opened the scoring for Ashton Athletic in their 4-1 away win at Lower Breck. Eye opening scoreline was Skelmersdale United's 2-1 loss at Wythenshawe Town, the home side coming from behind to win. Northwich Victoria also came from behind to beat Congleton Town 2-1, whilst also winning by that score was Irlam with another good away win at Vauxhall. AFC Liverpool also had another good away win with a 3-2 victory at Burscough, the home side going 2-0 up before the Reds hit back with Oliver Sanderson scoring a 94th minute winner. The other game saw Avro and Squires Gate draw 2-2. Onto Tuesday 8th and eight games. Skelmersdale closed the gap on leaders Macclesfield after a 5-2 win over ourselves, with Macc held 2-2 at Irlam. Former Town man George Lomax opened the scoring for Burscough in their 2-0 win over Lower Breck, with Northwich winning 2-1 at AFC Liverpool. The final game saw Barnoldswick Town
LATEST ROUND UP WE LOOK AT THE PREMIER DIVISION RESULTS SINCE OUR LAST HOME GAME draw 2-2 at Congleton Town, Kuda Chingwaro scoring an 89th minute leveller. Saturday just gone saw an away win for Town at Barnoldswick Town. Bobbie McDonnell opened the scoring on debut, with Sam Hughes hitting the winner after a Barlick leveller. The result moved us further clear of tonight's opponents Litherland REMYCA after a Thomas McNamara penalty saw them lose 1-0 at home to Burscough. At the other end of the table, Macclesfield beat Lower Breck 4-0, with all four of their goals coming in the last 25 minutes including a 35-yard lob by Aaron Dwyer that's worth a watch! Skem made sure the gap remained two points with Elliot Morris hitting both goals in their 2-0 win over Northwich Victoria. Joel Brownhill scored twice for Padiham as they romped to a 4-0 away win at Vauxhall Motors. Irlam's good form continued by coming from behind to beat Avro 2-1, Millen Brown scoring a brace there including a last minute winner. Charnock Richard won 5-0 away at Longridge Town, with Nathan Nickeas hitting a hat-trick. Carl Grimshaw was also on target, his goal being his 480th in Charnock colours! The other two games between AFC Liverpool / Congleton Town and Squires Gate / Winsford United both finished goalless. This week sees nine league games with two important cup matches too. Enjoy!

WE TAKE A LOOK AT WHAT HAS HAPPENED IN THE PAST ON THE 15th FEBRUARY
We have played 7 times on this day, the last in 2017 4-1 v Maine Road (K.Exell, M.James, J.Holt, OG). We also won beat Capenhurst 2-0 in 1997 (D.Wright, C.Thompson) and Merseyside Police 3-0 in 1992 (G.McCabe, M.Daly, J.Williams). We drew 2-2 at Wigan Robin Park in 2011 (Bellew, Wynne), and lost 2-0 v 1874 Northwich in 2016. We also lost 3-1 at Capenhurst in 2003 (G.Bushell), and 3-2 at home to Chester College in 1986 (N.Williams, N.Dempsey).
a coordinated day of protests was held across the world in 2003 in which people in more than 600 cities expressed opposition to the imminent Iraq War. It was part of a series of protests and political events that had begun in 2002 and continued as the invasion, war, and occupation took place. The day was described by social movement researchers as "the largest protest event in human history, with the one in Rome involving a Guinness World Record number of three million people.
ON THIS DAY
The decimalisation of British coinage is completed on Decimal Day in 1971. Before this date in the UK, the British pound was made up of 20 shillings, each of which was made up of 12 pence, a total of 240 pence. With decimalisation, the pound kept its old value and name, and the only changes were in relation to the subunits, with the pound subdivided into 100 "new pence".
Born on this day in 1954 was Matt Groening, the creator of the popular comic strip Life in Hell. In 1985, producer James Brooks contacted Groening about adapting Life in Hell for animated sequences for The Tracey Ullman Show. Fearing the loss of ownership rights, Groening created a new set of characters, called the Simpson family. The shorts were spun off into their own series, The Simpsons, which has since aired 717 episodes. He also developed Futurama.

Our opponents extended their unbeaten league record to 18 games, with the three points enough to take three points clear at the top of the table from Golborne Sports and Avon Villa. There were seven debutants throughout the game for Runcorn Town as we look to finish the season with a more settled and committed side than has been the case for much of the season. It may have been this that led to the opening goal inside the first minute, with Karlmarl Nelson slotting home.
from the edge of the box before firing home. The second half was just a few minutes old when James got his second of the afternoon, turning in a low cross from the left hand side. The fifth goal came on the hour and it was pretty much a carbon copy of the fourth, with precision passing resulting in a low cross for Nelson to get his second. Town continued to battle but could not get to grips with the weather or the opposition, however defensively they looked a lot better than their previous game against Runcorn Sports. It was only when changes were made towards the end that the shape got lost slightly, with Macc adding two more goals late on.
Town were playing well but a lovely move on 33 minutes from the visitors cut the defence apart, with a low cross from the right turned in by Tyler James.
Nelson completed his hattrick with another tap in, before Jelani Blake convered off the inside of the post.
Just before the break it was three, with Harvey Smith picking up the ball

The Under 16s were beaten 6-0 in their Cheshire Cup semi-final against a strong Macclesfield side. Two goals in ten first ten minutes put Macclesfield in control. First a cross from the left was finished and then a ball from deep flicked on and finished. Town responded though when Luke Graven picked out Liam Hall who took a touch and his shot was saved. From the resulting corner Graven’s deep cross was fired over the bar by Harry Cartlidge. Macclesfield increased their lead on 22 minutes, winning possession high up the pitch and through ball to the edge of the box and finished. Town kept pressing and Cartlidge had an effort from 25 yards saved. Liam Hall then had a shot deflected over the bar and from Graven’s corner Cartlidge found space at the far post, but his shot went wide. Macclesfield created chances in the second half but aren’t able to find the target, until they were
awarded a penalty midway through the half which was converted to make it 4-0.
Tommy Crane then made a great save before Macclesfield went close again with a feee kick that came back off the bar. Macclesfield added two more goals late on. First a feee kick from wide on the left which went beyond everyone and in off the far post. Then a shot from distance which Crane did well to save but a striker was first to the loose ball to tap in. The lads have done so well to get this far in the competition and we are proud of what they have achieved. The Under 15s were beaten in a 9 goal thriller against Runcorn Linnets Blues on Saturday morning. Goals from Owen McLaughlin (2), Aaron Pimblett and Alfie Vidamour looked to have earned a draw but a late winner meant a 5-4 defeat.

NEXT FOR TOWN WE HAVE A SATURDAY OFF BEFORE FACING AFC LIVERFPOOL AT HOME NEXT TUESDAY EVENING
Runcorn Town's have a free Saturday this coming weekend, but then the big games continue as AFC Liverpool visit the Viridor Community Stadium for a NWCFL Premier Division game next Tuesday (7.45pm KO). Town have a more than decent record against the "non-league Reds", with 16 wins coming from our 20 previous meetings. The first meeting came in October 2010 in our first season in the NWCFL, a game that we won 2-1 thanks to a James McShane brace. Of our next 17 meetings, the results went pretty much the same way, with Town winning 15 of them. The only two times we didnt pick up three points was in August 2012 and September 2014, with Town definitely a bogey team for our next opponents. Our last two meetings ended in a 3-3 draw, with Town winning on penalties in the Macron Cup Semi Final in September 2000, and a 4-2 away defeat earlier this
42
season, with Liam Turner and Ben Greenop on target for us in a 4-2 loss on the night. At the time of writing AFC Liverpool sit in 12th place in the league table, with eleven wins, seven draws and thirteen defeats from their 31 league games. They have played 39 when we account for the various cup competitions they have played in, with a pretty even split across the games. At home, they have won and lost nine games with two draws, whilst on the road they have won eight, drew six and lost just five, indicating that it could be a tough game next week. The Schorah brothers are the ones most likely to find the target, with Kyle having scored 19 in his 36 games with Callum scoring 16 in his 35 games. Callum also leads the way on MoM votes with eight this season. Kick off against AFC is 7.45pm.
