New situation Westdijk (dyke)
By constructing two new dykes, a high water channel will be created between the villages of Veessen and Wapenveld. There will be farmland between the dykes. In the event of extreme high water, this area will be capable of discharging a proportion of the water from the river IJssel.

Under the Kerkdijk bridge, there is a quay with an inflow construction built on it. The inflow construction can be opened as soon as the water from the IJssel reaches 5.65 metres NAP.
