Spanish For Absolute Beginners

Have you ever wanted to learn another language? Well, this is your chance! Join Senora Southhall for Spanish for Absolute Beginners during this class you will learn the language and information about the culture This is a fun and interactive workshop!

Lorie Southall is a graduate of James Madison Universityand the University of Valencia. She fell in love with teaching in 1976 and hasn’t stopped teaching, even while raising 4 children. Over the years she has chaperoned hundreds of students as they traveled and studied in Spain and Mexico Although she is officially retired she is having a hard time leaving and now is

working part-time teaching Spanish 4 and Spanish 5 She estimates she has taught about 7,000 students. Her students say that Senora Southall is always positive and always enthusiastic. She loves to create fun and meaningful lessons and activities. She is passionate about her teaching and her students.

Historian Marcia Zug led a captivating lecture on the history of marriage in the South, exploring how, for much of U.S. history, marriage was driven by necessity rather than love. Legal and social incentives encouraged marriage for wealth, status, power, and survival, particularly in the 18th and 19th centuries While marriage has helped counteract social and economic inequalities, it has also hindered broader systemic solutions.

Painting 101

In Painting 101, you’ll be introduced to the fundamentals of painting in a supportive, hands-on environment Whether you’re new to painting or looking to expand your skills, Terry’s expertise as both an educator and full-time artist will guide you through the creative process. You’ll explore various techniques, from color mixing to composition, while learning how to channel your personal experiences into your artwork.

Terry, inspired by her rural upbringing, pursued a BFA in Interior Design at VCU before transitioning from commercial design to her true passion art She played a key role in establishing the Center for Creative Arts at Shady Grove, serving as Chair of the Board and leading various workshops. As a Creative Arts Specialist at Cedarfield, she managed art programs and galleries before becoming a full-time artist in 2020. Her work, often reflecting nature, faith, and rural life, includes commissioned pieces and fundraisers Passionate about plein air painting, she continues to create, teach, and exhibit her art throughout Richmond

The National Women's History Museum (NWHM) is dedicated to recognizing, honoring, and preserving the diverse stories of women throughout American history. By educating and inspiring individuals of all ages, the NWHM seeks to shine a light on the incredible contributions women have made to society, culture, and various fields, from politics and science to the arts and beyond. The museum offers a wide range of virtual programs, educational resources, and events that celebrate the lives of trailblazing women, providing a platform for reflection and learning about gender equality and empowerment Through its engaging initiatives, the NWHM strives to promote awareness of women's history and ensure their achievements are acknowledged and celebrated for generations to come.
