Die Groot Vet Kombers Proe-Jek Louis Radley

RTSA was privileged enough to partner with OFM, the Sound of your Life to run an Alliance project known as die Goot Vet Kombers Proe-jek. The alliance project was run over the course of 4 weeks in 4 different towns in 3 different areas or provinces, which all fall within the broadcast area of OFM. The project entailed that OFM would do an on site broadcast in the relevant town with the team creating a drive-thru and sell vetkoeke

at a minimum donation of R35 each. The community would then pay the minimum donation of R35 and some would even pay more…..the largest donation was R10’000……. The team travelled in excess of 2700 km to the various towns. RTSA was represented by 4 tables situated in the Free State , Stnofs and Northern Cape areas, making it the 2nd biggest RTSA alliance project to the Winter Knight alliance with Toyota.

The project started in Vryburg on 10 June and travelled to Potchefstroom ( 17 June), Upington ( 24 June ) and finished in Welkom on 1 July on OFM’s 35th Birthday. The initial idea was sell 500 vetkoeke per day and the team ended up selling in excess of 4000 vetkoeke over the course of the 4 days……. The alliance partnership was able to raise R450’000 with Welkom 40 collecting R146 420, Potchefstroom 47 R126 856 , Upington 79 R107 555

and Vryburg 72 collecting R69169. The marketing / time on air value of the project is approximately R1’000’000. Potchefstroom sold 900 vetkoeks in the first 20 minutes from opening the Vetkoek DriveThru and sold the most of the 4 tables. Over the space of 4 weeks of the project, OFM’s airtime was taken over by promotions and reports of the project.

From The President Imagine if you got what you want, every time without struggles, no hard work needed and no challenges. Some might be saying… that would be great… You would be weak! And then, when something hard comes up in your life, you wouldn’t know how to handle it, because you have never gone through anything that strengthens you. You can not GROW without struggle. You can not develop STRENGTH without resistance, without challenging yourself, without struggle. PAIN is your friend. Maybe not in the moment. But for the evolution of your soul, for the long term benefit of you as a stronger human being – pain IS YOUR FRIEND. If you didn’t have failures… If you didn’t have struggles… If you didn’t have disappointment, you cannot have strength, courage and compassion. How could you? Those qualities are MADE from your pain and struggle.

You were given pain because you are strong enough to handle it. You were given this LIFE because you are strong enough to live it. Because you are strong enough to drive though it. To THRIVE THROUGH IT. To inspire others through it. They will look to you and say: He did it, I have the strength to do it to. You are stronger than you think. You’ve survived all your challenges to this point… And you will survive whatever is coming. But next time a struggle don’t curse the skies. Know that it was sent for a reason and a lesson. It might be to make you stronger, it might be to teach you patience, it might be for you to show others your spirit, there is a reason. So don’t give up. You have a purpose in this world. And you will only find it if you keep going and keep GROWING.

The Chronicles of Round Table: Chapter 1 Mark Kissler

History is important! It heralds salient occurrences and teaches us aspects of life from knowledge of the past. Many facets of history portray atrocious events. Through these happenings the world as we know it today was born, evolving daily. Tomorrow planet Earth will be different than it is today and yesterday is long forgotten. Consider wars, the industrial revolution (well, we are presently in its 4th iteration), science and technological advancements when painting a mental picture. The speed of evolution is increasing ever so slightly and has done so in particular over the last 150 years. Not to paraphrase British journalist and TV presenter Jeremy Clarkson, but history is not all bad. Let’s put matters into perspective: the invention of the wheel and the combustion engine, the discovery of electricity and penicillin as well as the formation of a now global and internationally renowned organisation we are a part of today – Round Table! There are a lot of details to be conveyed to you, the reader. In an effort to present you with factual information and data, as well as to keep you longing for more, the Chronicles of Round Table 34 Windhoek will be subdivided into 4 parts. Enjoy! Arthurian legend and Prince Edward VIII King Arthur is a medieval, mythological figure

who was the head of the kingdom Camelot and the Knights of the Round Table. It is not known if there was a real Arthur, though it is believed he may have been a Roman-affiliated military leader who successfully staved off a Saxon invasion during the 5th to 6th centuries. His legend has been popularised by many writers, including Geoffrey of Monmouth, a British cleric, anthropologist and one of the major figures in the development of British historiography. Does this mean that Round Table as we know it stems from King Arthur? No, the uncompromising truth is that our organisation

has nothing to do with the folklore of King Arthur! The design of the Round Table emblem or rondel is, however, an adaptation of the one which hangs in the Great Hall in Winchester Castle. Although this is claimed to be the Round Table of the mythical court of King Arthur, it is in fact a representation which was made in the 13th century, and painted in its current form on the order of Henry VIII, King of England from 1509 until his death in 1547. That practically means that the very first version of the rondel is about as old as the Reinheitsgebot from 1516. So, where did the idea of Round Table as we know it originate from? It wasn’t until 1927 during the British Industries Fair where Prince Edward VIII, the Prince of Wales, held a speech which included: “The young business and professional men of this country must get together round the table, adopt methods that have proved so sound in the past, adapt them to the changing needs of the times and wherever possible, improve them.” This is where the maxim “Adopt, Adapt, Improve", whichwe have been using since inception of Round Table, stems from. Adopt, Adapt, Improve is in some ways as good and as

simple as "Learn Before, During and After", or "Ask Learn Share". You can look at Prince Edward's vision of the Round Table as a community of practice, developing and discussing best practices. In any task of undertaking we should adopt ideas and knowledge that have worked before elsewhere, adapt them to our current situation, and improve them by learning on

the job; making sure we broadcast them to others for their adoption. This way, knowledge is used, improved and shared, and the collective knowledge grows in effectiveness and value. This heralded Louis Marchesi, a member of the Rotary Club in Norwich, to form Round Table.

Impactful Change Free State Area Fund to the Rescue Tian de Wet

Unfortunately, neither the structure nor their possessions were insured and as a result, the Telte family had to start over with absolutely nothing. It is amazing how the communities in the Free State are willing to lend a hand in situations like this.

On the 24th of March 2021, the Taute family left their farm in the Tierpoort area and went about their usual day as so many times before. Marlene is a teacher at he Landbou school Hendrik Potgieter.

Through Mrs Botha, a math teacher at Landbou school Hendrik Potgieter, Marlene managed to reach Round Table and asked for assistance. As usual, Round Table acted promptly and PG Grove reached out to the Telte family to find out how Round Table can assist.

At 9am Marlene received a phone call that was unexpected and that would be a nightmare for anyone. She was advised that their family home on the farm was on fire. The family immediately rushed home however, when they arrived an half an hour later, the structure was totally covered in flames.

By means of the Free State Area Disaster Fund, Round Table was able to assist by providing the Telte family with essential furniture and contents items to the value of R 20 000. The assistance provided by Round Table enabled the Telte family to start over, what an example of #impactfulchange.

The fire held back no punches and unfortunately, the family lost the fight and their home, including all their possessions burnt to the ground. This is hard to imagine, what the Telte family must have gone through accepting that all they have worked for no longer exists. The loss had a massive impact, both emotional and psychological, more so for their daughter.

Unseen Battle Christo Bezuidenhout

When I started Tabling 10 years ago one of the requirements were to run a project as a pipeliner. I did not want to convene an already existing project, and decided to start something completely new. I had gotten involved with the Fight for Sight initiative through one of my fellow pipeliners’ wives who worked for the Centurion Eye Hospital. I was privileged to see what an amazing difference a 20 minute operation can make, and what value it adds to these kids’ lives. When they arrive they can only see movement at 1 meter, and they grow up thinking that their parent and siblings are just blobs. Afterwards, the excitement, smiles and jubilation when they can actually see details for the first time ever caught a heart string and the partnership with Fight for Sight started. The project evolved from a Cycle Challenge, to a cycle race. Flowing over into a Dinner in

the Dark concept and eventually has mutated into a Corporate fun “golf day” with a music show. In 2020 it was obviously difficult circumstances but the new concept has taken off and had a lot of good reviews. Going into my last year of Tabling I decided to make this a full year project and not just one event. Combining everything that Table holds dear and special. I will be travelling the country and visiting all the Active clubs in RTSA running up to ARTSA 2022. I will ask for support from all the clubs and ask them to donate a Table Pin. These active club pins will be placed on a special Pin board in the shape of the RTSA Map and eventually auctioned off at ARTSA 2022. On a personal level I will auction off a special Project coin at every club visit to the highest bidder. These coins are numbered only in the numbers of the Active Clubs , which means there is definitely only ONE!! So watch my FB page as I travel and collect these pins. I want to create a story of my Travelling year.

In June I passed by Tzaneen 96 and Phalaborwa 170 and obviously started at Pretoria 136. Phalaborwa 170 donated R1000 to the project to get it started!! The Giant of the North getting in on the spirit of the project. The last piece of this project puzzle is corporate involvement. Over my 10 years I have met many companies and been involved with them for a lot of projects. Through their help this project will go to the next level and finish my Table career on a HIGH! The first of these partners have already come on board from day one. The Build It franchise has gotten involved and a sponsor of R50 000 from one of their franchisees with a group of 10 stores, has already realized! I will share more of this I travel and thank the owners of these stores on my Travels. Looking forward to seeing you all over the country and growing this project into Mega Project. Thank you Tzaneen and Phalaborwa for already getting behind it!

They traveled over vast distances starting at Goanikontes Oasis, past Spitzkoppe and Khorixas and ultimately finishing at the foot of the iconic Brandberg mountain. The R&T rally is an all out fun but tough event, aimed at raising funds for the Cancer Association of Namibia(CAN). The idea of the event is to compete with cars older than 1990 and with a value of less than N$ 35,000. This was the 4th year the rally has taken place and has once again been a huge success. More than 50 cars entered as well as numerous back up vehicles. Total funds raised for CAN over the 4 years far exceed the N$ 1 million mark, with the teams managing to raise in excess of N$ 400,000.00 this year. Proudly, Team Afrika Sun, managed to raise N$ 21,000.00 or just over 5% of total funds raised and far exceeding the average funds raised per team. All and all this was a great event to support, as well as great exposure for Round Table, Hochland 154, as well as Cancer Care Namibia Fund (CCNF) which Hochland administers.

Adaliah Sorg Jaco Crafford

Adaliah Sorg is ‘n veilige tuiste vir weggee babas.

Turning the tide on ocean pollution Paul Hoeksema

Never think ocean pollution doesn't affect you. Not only does it harm and in a lot of cases kill marine life, but small organisms also feed on broken-down plastic (microplastic) & have been found in plankton as well as whales. When smaller organisms are eaten by larger animals, these fish species land in our dinner plates along with the chemicals originating from these broken-down plastics. On the 15th of May Round Table - Mossel Bay 32's 2nd Beach Cleanup saw members & volunteers head to Diaz Beach to combat the ocean pollution crisis. Another sizeable amount of trash was collected & discarded. Thank you to everyone that joined in to drive #ImpactfulChange & being a part of the pollution crisis.

Winter Knights Wel213 Pre-Winter Knights Distribution Amize Adams to NAMKIDS Winter Knights being a day away Welwitschia 213 taken the opportunity at the Hochland 154 business meeting on the 3rd of June 2021 to do our last Pre-Winter Knights distribution before WK2021 kicks off. Welwitschia 213 was approached by NamKids who are group of women who have taken it upon themselves to help kids in need. They take the time to travel to places in Namibia to assist Kids who are in need. The kids they assist are homeless and when the need is great also those who are not. They have two outreaches a year 1. Winter outreach and 2. Christmas outreach.

Wel213 did the distribution at the Hochland 154 meeting at the Lions Club and ensured that Hochland 154 was part of the distribution. Thanks to LTE who assisted with purchase of blankest that allowed Wel213 to purchase a lot more with the funds we had available by giving discounts on sourcing the best blankets for the best prices. Welwitschia 213 distributed 50 blankets valued at N$ 2150.00 and the 6-man hours spent on the project was well worth the effort. We are grateful for Namkids and organizations like the who look out for the marginalized and vulnerable and we hope the little we were able to give will help them in their endeavors.

Wel213 through Xavier Strauss a guest of Wel213 who assisted them in the past as an individual. NamKid’s will be doing their Winter Outreach program in June. They will be driving down to Gobabis and visit the street kids and kids from vulnerable families to distribute blankets and food to them. Welwitschia 213 was able to donate 60 blankets to the NamKids initiative that will be delivered to kids I need in Gobabis during these this winter.

The Winter Knights Project has over the past years grown from strength to strength and is well known and loved by most Namibians. This year, we once again teamed up with the Future Media Group in creating awareness and facilitating the collection of blankets, clothes, funds, and other donations for those less fortunate. We held our annual ‘blik skud’ on Friday the 4th of June and had corners populated in Walvis, Swakopmund and Windhoek. As the COVID-19 pandemic is still very present we were trying to promote noncontact-based donations. Pay Today as well as Dynamic Mobile Solutions, provided virtual platforms for donations. In addition to this we once again teamed up with PEP Namibia to provide us with shelf space at all 128 stores located in Namibia, where anyone can go in and buy a blanket and put it in the donation boxes located in each store. Indongo Toyota climbed onboard as our newest partner, and have branded bakkies in store to collect blankets, clothing, and food. We had the biggest footprint for collections ever, even having an online gaming event that also raised N$ 2 600 for the cause.

On 02 June 2021 Round Table Ficksburg 98 once again assisted in our long standing tradition of providing a Boerewors roll and a cooldrink to any person who donated a pint of blood to the South African National Blood Service.

Paarl 44 is donating blood around every 56 days. We help Paarl Blood Donating Bank with marking on the evening which Paarl 44 are also donating blood. On the 3rd of June We as Paarl 44 were 5 members that donated blood. The amount of people that donated blood was 104 for the evening.

The Blood Drive was well attended with a total of 92 pints of blood being donated in total. This number while not being the highest is a great turnout for the icy cold weather that was present on the day. For those of you not familiar with our corner of the Country, Ficksburg is one of the coldest places in South Africa, but it is also a place where the community has the warmest of hearts. We would like to thank Ficksburg Sasol for once again sponsoring the ice and the cooldrinks for the day. The day was one filled with fellowship in the spirit of a good cause with many of our tablers coming to fill in as their day allowed them to.

Unity in Brotherhood A Brotherhood Crazy Enough to Andries van Rooyen Change to World

During the month of June 2021, some of the Jukskei 217 members were privileged enough to attend the annual South Cape WinterCon meeting. Besides making memories, meeting new friends for the first time and learning from other Tables, we were treated to a RTSA session where Jukskei 217 was challenged with the question WHY??? · · · · ·

WHY do you do Table? WHY are you a Tabler? WHY is Table special and not just another Club? What do you give Table? What does Table give you?

These are some of the WHY`S were asked to all the Tables in the South Cape area. What made the session special was that Jukskei 217, sitting in the back, had an opportunity to view this whole play from the outside and see how we as Tablers can grow our organization and ourselves. We could not help but think to ourselves that these WHY’s are very good questions. So on the way back from our fantastic trip we got thinking on how can we apply this to our own Table and Tablers and how can we take the ideas from a RTSA level to a club level. Early on in the Table year, we decided that we want to have a Strategic session to develop our three year plan with key table performance areas and indicators to meet our goals. We challenged our members to contribute to this strategic session on the Public Holiday in June and link it with a nice social…I know a Public Holiday, but Jukskei 217 members picked up the gauntlets and gave their own time to assist, support and plan our Table’s future on their day off As with all conceptualization sessions, and even more with online sessions, it started off slow by asking the questions WHY, not only to members but also pipeliners since they will soon need drive the Best Young Men`s Organisation in the World. We entered the Strategic session with the goal of addressing the following key areas. ·Area 1: WHY? ·Area 2: WHO are we? ·Area 3: SWOT Analysis? After an intense opening session we dug down into really understanding our WHY’s. An immediate and interesting takeaway was the similarity between Jukskei 217’s views and those noted at the South Cape WinterCon. This might indicate that Table and Tabler’s are united as brothers across the country and world for the through their similar views and stances. In reflecting on the first session of the day we are proud to identify the three WHY`s that makes our table unique:

After reflecting our WHY in the first session we move on to identify the WHO WE ARE in the second session. We collaborated for about an hour and concluded with certainty that we are: A BROTHERHOOD CRAZY ENOUGH TO CHANGE THE WORLD! This gave me the chills and made me feel even more proud to be part of Jukskei 217 and Round Table as a whole. For our Table to Adopt, Adapt and Improve we really need to ask the hard questions and identify our strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats. The last session of the day was our SWOT analysis and we as a Table identified the following:

The WHY, WHO WE ARE and the SWOT analysis provided a better understanding of what Table is about and WHO is Jukskei 217 not only for the Tablers that have been Tabling for a while but also for the new members and pipeliners.. The day was concluded with a very nice online social celebrating not only our achievements for the day but also the Youth of our Country. I want to thank everyone that made this day possible, special and memorable. This day laid the foundation for Jukskei 217 for many years to come and I look forward to asking some hard questions to ourselves, our area, our country and our organization to challenge the status quo to ensure we as Table are always asking WHY because if we don’t, how else are we going to ADOPT, ADAPT and IMPROVE.

His sponsor is none other than the Vice Chairman, Marius Esterhuizen. This individual quickly felt at home with our organisation and the members so that he simply couldn’t stay away since the initial introduction. He attended the AGM in January and, to everyone’s pleasure, brought along his fiancé Jumandie de Vos to the Induction Dinner on the 5th of March. Round Table is an addiction that Johan didn’t know he had. He is already tabling with all his soul. The elegant and witty Jumandie seems to be the perfect partner by Johan’s side and we are very fortunate that she too shows a very keen interest in our organisation and respects the traditions that are embedded at Windhoek 34. We are looking forward to your future input and assistance too.

Getting to Know Johan Mark Kissler For once the name is extremely easy and simple – it’s just Johan. Not Johannes Pompies van der Tweebuffelsmeteenskootdoodgeskietfontein. Short and “sweet”. He was born on the 25th of August 1984 in Krugersdorp in South Africa. Nonetheless he is a very proud Namibian as will be proven later on. Just keep on reading. Johan was introduced to Round Table Windhoek 34 in January 2021 during a social meeting at Action Arena.

As it stands Johan still needs to figure out who his mentors are at table level. And who can blame him? It’s still early days so we shall see how he develops and who will teach him a thing or two. In life his mentor is his father, Johan Geldenhuys Snr. Johan Jnr says that his father has taught him everything he knows today and that formed and moulded him significantly. Our subject is a massive sports fan. In the editor’s opinion that statement is insufficient and the term enthusiastic fanatic par excellence seems more fitting. Let’s put matters into perspective. It’s not every day that a proper boertjie knows all ins and outs of soccer. The team of Chelsea FC is the one he supports. Whilst they are presently 4th in the Premier League, they are also in the final of the most prestigious club soccer competition contesting Manchester City for the UEFA Champions League trophy

on the 29th of May. It will be interesting to see how it turns out as Manchester City has just grabbed this season’s Premier League title. However, Chelsea previously beat Bayern Munich to lift the CL trophy in May 2012, and that on the latter’s home ground. Mr Geldenhuys is also a Formula 1 fan though not as much as soccer. As we are a part of Round Table Southern Africa, rugby is generally a more talked about and followed sports team. To diversify on our previous subjects who support WP and the Blue Bulls, Johan backs the Durban based Sharks. I think future Currie Cup and Superugby matches should make for fantastic fellowship events. Let’s wait and see as to whether we can organise something in that regard whilst also brainstorming for welfare projects and improvements. If the above isn’t sufficient evidence of Johan’s need for competitive sporting events, we can continue and shall do so immediately. Johan enjoys the game of golf as well as fishing and playing pool. Yet, his true passion and endurance is proven on the field whilst playing cricket. He’s played cricket for a quarter of a century and was privileged to wear the Namibian colours proudly at one stage during those 25 years. Consider us impressed by this, brother. Our pipeliner has heard a lot of our longrunning projects, the good intentions and the pitfalls, new projects and when they are planned for the year. To date he has not been

able to attend one yet as they are all to start in due course. We are looking forward to him jumping in on Winter Knights handovers and distributions, assisting with soup kitchens, aiding in clubhouse fundraisers and coming up with new and innovative projects. Johan, please bear in mind that if you are made a rondel member this year, the annual Christmas Party will have to be organised by you. Remember, at pipeliner status we as Windhoek 34 are looking at your commitment, insights and contributions to ensure you are the right fit for us. We have no doubt that you have all the necessary attributes to be a legendary tabler. Continue your path and you’ll reap the rewards. So, what is Johan’s favourite side of table since he started attending our meetings? Read for yourself: “It is difficult to state which is the best part of table as there are so many different aspects to it. If I have to choose it would probably be the brotherhood and associated fellowship. To be a part of an organisation so rich in history and continuity is only an honour and a privilege. The respect our fellow tablers have for women, by involving them with everything makes it so much easier for us men to be give 110% in all we do.” What a great statement by a pipeliner. Mr Geldenhuys is ecstatic, albeit nervous, of his own business venture about to start. One surely can understand why. Admirable is the fact that he pledged to use this opportunity in the best way possible to be a fantastic tabler and avail himself for projects, planning of events and the overall upliftment of our community. If that isn’t a fantastic character trait then who knows what is…

The clarity of the rear-view mirror Arno Kotze My name is Arno Kotze, a proud past-Tabler (as of 28 February 2021) currently serving as an Honorary Member of Pretoria 136. Mostly to get Pretoria 136’s PRO off my back about submitting several articles about this and about that to the Inkundla, I asked Igor, Round Table Editor-at-Large, for permission to do a two-part article covering everything! As with everything in life, the rear-view mirror is always clearer than the windscreen! As such, I’m fortunate today to be able to clearly account to you, Joe Tabler, the absolute #ImpactfulChange that Round Table has had on me and all past members alike! I, like so many other immediate past Tablers, stand here today humbled by the realization of how small we actually are in the bigger scheme of things! In retrospect, how truly honored we were to have been in a position to have been able to receive the Rondel from the giants before us, to have been able to wear it on our chests for a while and to now to be able to pass it on to the next generation of Tablers! I admit myself jealous to those Tablers staying behind and those Tablers yet to join, because today for the first time ever the words: “Adopt Adapt Improve” hurts! I finally grasp that I am the end-product of those words! This organization swallowed me whole, shaped me, etched the Rondel on my wrists and made me comprehend, admittedly even though I am upset about it, that it is only fair that I would only ever be part of this life changing organization for that exact number of years that it needed to define me as a ‘better man’!

As past Tablers we stand here today as complete as Round Table wanted us to be! We can only hope that we applied our organisation’s motto with some degree of success towards our fellow Table Brothers, our communities that we call home, our families and selfishly, ourselves as individuals! Trying to forget Round Table is like trying to remember someone you have never met. The Round Table cliché of you join for the community service but end up staying for the fellowship has never rung more true, in my mind, than today. In our limited years together we have seen more, lived more, been more and served more than most other men will see, live, be and serve in a lifetime. No amount of words will ever be enough to describe the level of appreciation! Next Month: Part 2 – The clarity of the rearview mirror and the importance of sunscreen!

A close-up: PJ Mark Kissler He was born in the south of Namibia just like Ian, though not that far south. Having “evacuated” the womb on the 18th of September 1993, Petrus Johannes Badenhorst is one of our younger members. That, however, does not make him any less valuable. In contrary, the youthful energy and millennial thinking is just the correct amount of freshness Windhoek 34 requires to remain on the forefront of relevance. Having been raised on a farm roughly 110km away from his birth town of Mariental, PJ is quite the interesting character. You’ll understand what I am on about in a jiffy. There is no denying that PJ is as sharp as a tack. That’s the very reason why this genuine gentleman is just short of passing one final examination before being admitted as a Chartered Accountant with ICAN, the Namibian regulatory body for CAs. I suppose that is precedence for him serving on 34’s council as Treasurer. Hence, the monthly financials are professionally compiled, sent out on time and superior in quality when compared to the norm. Ouch, the condescending hatred of jealousy by other tables is already felt when putting this fact in black on white. Remember though, all this writing is in good table spirit with not a pinch, but a chunk of NaCl. Provided the above information, one is led to think that our boerseun is a nerd, right? Nope, that is far from the truth. PJ is a zealous biker. Whether it is riding his adventure Yamaha or scrambler KTM, PJ

certainly requires the thrill of adventure rides to keep him balanced. As he refers to himself, he is a bike fanatic and that gets his pulse elevated – in a good way mind you. One thing is for sure: PJ is hardly ever in a bad mood. In the extremely unlikely event that this fellow tabler is not smiling one thing is for sure: something must have upset him quite a bit. Rumour has it that Austrian blood flows through his veins (just kidding) as not only the aforementioned KTM, but also his concealed carry gun, the trusted Glock 17, was crafted in this country that is predominantly known for Kaiserschmarrn. What the heck is Kaiserschmarrn? Mr author, could you be confusing us any more than you already are?

Okay, no problem, here is a quick lesson in fine European cuisine: Kaiserschmarrn is best described as scrambled sweet pancakes. The name is a compound of the German words Kaiser which means Emporer and Schmarrn which can be translated as “a scrambled dish”. Basically, it’s an Austrian dessert that's also very popular in Bavaria (Germany)! A sweet fluffy pancake made with rum-soaked raisins is torn into bitesized pieces, caramelized, and served sprinkled with powdered sugar, applesauce, and preserves. So, the above paragraph serves two purposes: a brilliant alternative dish proposal for a future social meeting as well as some educational material. That’s why Round Table is known as the University of Life. Petrus was introduced to Round Table by our foregone Chairman, the honourable Werner Wormsbächer. He quickly adapted (aha, see how the motto is applied) to the mantra of Windhoek 34 and was subsequently inducted as a member in Uis during a 2019 area meeting. We are all very fortunate to have this gentle giant wear our gemsbok emblem with pride and honour. You go, PJ! There is still so much you shall bless this association and our community with – all in due time. A superhero also needs role models he (he referring interchangeably to she and all the other genders – Round Table is non-political but politically correct) looks up to. Our very own hero, PJ, looks up to many mentors, but two in particular: 1. Ernst Grothkopf, our residing Chairman for 2021/2022; and 2. Frikkie Engels, honorary member and 34 Chairman for the 2018/2019 year.

In his explanation these solid and renowned 34 legends played a large role in having the important principles, values and traditions of Round Table embossed in his way of life. Thank you for your service, gentlemen. As is customary, PJ had to organise the 2019 Christmas Party for Windhoek 34 as per our unwritten rule of the newest inductee having to organise such. As can be seen clearly on the photo, Mr Badenhorst performed well and can easily assume the functions of Santa in the event that the latter were to fall ill. Though PJ has not been a member for a full two years yet and considering that 2020 was not a year of being able to carry out many projects, he has, in addition to being our evergreen Treasurer and hosting the 2019 Christmas Party, taken part in the last Black Bra event in 2019. If you followed this series carefully you will not require an introduction to this project. Any ladies out there that are looking for a real man instead of a hipster with a man bun and excuses of why he hasn’t yet made it in life? Congratulations! you’re in luck. This hunk has previously been engaged, but is available yet again. Please bear in mind that he is a man of high idealistic standards with values that could earn him a Nobel Prize in years to come. So, with the vacancy of wife for PJ being advertised here we’ll use a metaphor for ease of understanding*. Do note that this wild stallion with a golden heart deserves nothing but the best so please ensure you are duly qualified before applying for a date.

*What is the arguably best car in the world? Some would state that it is a Rolls Royce. Luxurious, classy, smooth, relaxing, powerful and the envy of many. If you are a Rolls Royce and not a Tata, please do get in touch with the IRO/PRO for evaluation and possible shortlisting to the interview of becoming the lady who PJ will carry on a silver platter. Our “Finance Minister” is a passionate tabler and his favourite parts of the rondel orgacnisation are the fellowship and making a real and actual difference in assisting the community at large. Now, if that isn’t a real tabler, what is? Let’s give Herr Badenhorst the opportunity to be quoted: “I am actually a very reserved and quite introverted individual and do not enjoy talking about myself. Furthermore, I don’t like putting pen to paper as my writing tends to be a little skewed and the message does not come across as intended. I grew up on a farm outside Mariental with my parents and left the nest quite early as I had to be placed in a hostel to attend Grade 1. My years in primary school were completed in Keetmanshoop and high school in Stampriet. I have a younger sister who is married and they got their first child in August last year. Gentlemen, there you have it – a little insight of who is Windhoek 34’s PJ Badenhorst. We as table are excited for this youthful leader to be a part of our organisation and are delighted to see his growth and what he will still bring to table. A valuable person, no doubt, with interesting hobbies to complement the association and create diversity.

Soar Like An Eagle,

Ghost Rider Mark Kissler Time has stopped. We hold our breath. No, the news cannot be true. It cannot be real, it may not have happened. Struggling with reality and the news of his passing, we have no choice but to accept that Frikkie Engels has left us behind. Will we ever be able to fathom this? Our brother, 41er and honorary member for this year has lost the battle against Covid-19. The epitome of a Namibian man and father is no longer around to be our brother, friend, mentor and Sergeant at Arms. The loss is unbearable. Frikkie will be watching from above when Arnelda celebrates her sweet sixteenth several years from now. Our gracious buddy will smile from Heaven above when Christiaan obtains his driving licence upon turning eighteen. He will be there in spirit when his loving wife cries tears of joy when all be okay again. Whenever that may be… Gentlemen, we herewith honour the life of our one-of-a-kind compadre, Mr Frikkie Engels. Let us remember all the things he stood for and all the lessons we learnt from and through him. May we join hands in this difficult time of sorrow and disbelief and be pillars of support for Amelda and their children in this time of need as Frikkie would have done for us.

Let’s pray that the Almighty will comfort and encourage us to continue the good fight. May we be strong and not deviate from our Round Table journey and always remember what Frikkie would have done in each and every situation. Let us be grateful for the memories and gracious that we were able to walk with him. May we be guided to channel our grief and converting it into good deeds. To Frikkie: We are beaten beyond measure by your unexpected departure. Soar like an eagle and thank you for all you have done for us. We will do our utmost best to cherish the great moments we shared once the grief has subsided a little. We’ll use our hurt for good and think of you in every project we approach from here on out. Take care buddy, and thank you, our beloved Ghost Rider!

Interview with the legendary Kudu Mark Kissler May and June have been horrific months, especially for Windhoek 34. We’ve lost a veteran 41er as well as a 41er who served as our honorary member for the year. There is no comfort in knowing that other tables underwent similar situations, but we sympathise with all who suffered losses. Therefore, it is so pleasant to present to you an interview of a story that frightened us all at the end of April and throughout May. We’re smiling knowing that Kudu is back in town, safe and sound. He is healthy again, well, sort of. Let’s trust in him telling us the truth. Thus, without further ado: 1. MK: We previously reported on you with the diagnosis of pheochromocytoma in a different article. Tell us first-hand what exactly happened to you over Easter Weekend. What symptoms did you have? Were you in pain? How did the doctors establish that you are suffering from pheochromocytoma? LR: Well, I recall driving to a farm to have a lekker weekend with the family for Easter. The Saturday evening I felt quite nervous, it’s hard to explain. It felt like I was under pressure somehow. I had an epiphany of dread overcome me. That evening I had massive headaches and could not sleep. I was driven to the clinic in Gobabis and had to spend the night. The next morning my wife drove me to back to Windhoek and I was booked in at Lady Pohamba Private Hospital - into ICU. They could not establish what exactly was wrong with me for an entire week that felt particularly long and having done a HELL of a lot of tests on my body.

2. MK: Being a spring chicken 41er, how did you feel when the doctors delivered their verdict? Were you scared? How did your family i.e. wife and kids deal with it? LR: To be blunt I wasn’t scared, I did not feel anything. Honestly, I felt a bit relieved. The same applies to my wife. Now that we knew what was wrong, we could move forward and fight it with everything the medical experts have in their arsenal. We focused on that part. 3. MK: How was the medi flight to Cape Town? LR: LOOOONNNGGG and boring. It can by no means be equated to ordinary commercial travel. 4. MK: How was the support, especially emotionally, for both you and Cathy in this difficult time?

LR: We are grateful to have received so much support. I do believe that we would not have made it through this, had it not been for all the friends and family supporting us. All calls and messages from loved ones were overwhelming and kept me pushing through this entire time. 5. MK: What can you share on the day of the operation, just before you went into the theatre? LR: I felt quite calm. The nurses and doctors were very friendly and very positive. I received an epidural and can’t remember much after that… Off to sleepy town. 6. MK: What were the chances of a full recovery? Explain your post operation pains, medications, etc. LR: The recovery process was quite long, as was to be expected. After lying in bed for a week I really struggled get up, out of bed and walk again. The pains were severe on my back, but I was able to sleep well and provide my body the necessary rest – compliments to the best pain medication I have had, EVER!

8. MK: Tell us about your practically 6-week long stay in Cape Town, follow-up consultations after your release from hospital and what not. LR: Being in Cape Town during this period can’t really be described as a nice experience. I was in hospital for 4 weeks and 2 weeks recovering in an apartment. I could not really move around too much as I ran out of breath quite quickly. The flat we stayed in at Greenpoint was fantastic and was offered to us by a friend to stay at no charge. During the last week I had to get a few tests done and had continuous visitations/consultations with the doctors before receiving the final ‘okay’ and permission to fly back home. We were lucky to have a vehicle available from my brother-in-law during our entire stay. 9. MK: Are you healthy now? Is Iron Man back in action soon or do we still have to worry?

LR: I am healthy, yes, but I have been diagnosed with thyroid cancer. This will be removed in due course and then I will be 100% healthy again. 7. MK: How was your time in ICU after the MK: Let’s pray and hope that you’re right, operation? Kudu. We firmly believe you can overcome anything. LR: Lekker. The nurses were very professional MK: Please mention anything else you and friendly. My wife should be able to tell you 10. more than I can, she says I was under the would like to have added to the interview. influence of induced drugs the entire time and that created some confusion and delusion in LR: My life has been turned upside down. Yet, with support from the people that mean the me. most to me, has enabled it to somewhat go easy through what I have gone through and MK: Yeah, we recall that part. am still experiencing. The Evergreen Portfolio Bearer

Amize, Namibia’s own Johnnie Walker (he isn’t that for his fondness of whisky, though), has so far had a colourful and extremely portfoliorich career in Round Table. At no stage does he ever hold just a single portfolio in any given year. Instead, he holds multiple portfolios each and every year spread over his table, Welwitschia 213, and Namibia Area. Originally from Namibia’s west coast, the harbour town of Walvis Bay, Amize works at the Ofiice of the Prosecutor General in Windhoek. His career choice is definite and unquestionable proof that he is a big fan of protocol, procedures and surely meetings.

Mark Kissler In Namibia, if you look at the current tablers in totality, there are a few that stand out with their charisma, urge to serve, etiquette and commitment to the rondel. Now, who is the evergreen portfolio bearer? Hmm, a few can be considered. Is it one of the Westerdale brothers that have held office of chairman for their club Walvis Bay 36 in alternating sequence so often? Is it Harry Rencs who is the chairman and wearer of the blue-ribbon gong for the second consecutive year at Swakopmund 145? Do they now appear to hold on to the ‘power’ and are portrayed as dictators? Gosh, hopefully not. Nope, this piece of writing is not about these formidable men. There is no doubt that they have a resolute and distinct passion and drive for Round Table. This piece of writing is, however, about none other than Amize Adams.

Amize has held multiple portfolios, most of them multiple times, as follows: Table Vice Chairman, Table Chairman, Table Constitutional Advisor, Table Secretary, Table Treasurer, Table IRO/PRO, Area Vice Chairman, Area Chairman, Area Constitutional Advisor and Area IRO/PRO. This list is certainly inconclusive. Yet, with his table slowly growing in terms of members, we wish him the opportunity and willpower to hand over the reins slowly, bit by bit, to his fellow Welwitschia friends, so that he can lean back a bit, relax and have a smooth transition within Welwitschia 213. This patriotic tabler has done so very much for everyone at table. The time has come for him to be more of a mentor and provide guidance to the new inductees rather than to do everything himself. He has another three or four years left at table, but he needs to learn to do less. Now he’s required to see his efforts flourish by looking at the piece of art he is leaving for all of us at table: fellowship, compassion and determination.

A Close-Up: Ian Mark Kissler Believe it or not but Ian’s full name is actually Johannes Gerhardus Jurgens Pienaar. Well done, Mr Ian. cats! For purposes of this piece of partially mischievous literature, Ian ought it well to make special mention of Koos’s choice of punishment when he was the Sergeant at Arms. No, it isn’t some foul baking soda and flour concoction. Instead, the punishment comprises of homegrown and “organic” peppers, which we believe can be so potent they should be kept away from paintwork and have the ability to wipe out corona in an instant.

When asked what his favourite part of table is, Ian has given his answer quite some thought: “I genuinely enjoy all facets of table, but if I have to choose a favourite, it would certainly be the part of assisting the community. Community is helping all those in need and also pertains to fellow tablers amongst us. Privileged to have been a part of many incentives that assisted the fellow brother, I have assisted with fundraisers and handovers, amongst others, for Tablers Assisting Tablers, witnessed the open hearts of our organisation raising funds for a tabler’s father in need and creating awareness of the Knysa fires where the residents lost all their belongings and Namibia Area loaded an entire truck full of clothes, blankets and food to assist the people of Knysna. We are proud to have assisted Alan Malan, former RTSA President, when he contracted Covid-19 and I am proud to assist our fellow tablers this year with the hard hands they have been dealt with. The Sergeant At Arms Mark Kissler To keep order in a meeting requires a man of rank For punishment of those who obtusely disobey and play a prank Not to worry, he is here, the Sergeant at Arms Chesley will remember, his brains alarms The memory of a delectable concoction, not quite a fancy drink It was the pickled onion and Zorba that almost put him over the brink On the evening of the 2nd of June next to funky town in Khomasdal Took place the meeting of 213 in Welwitschia’s spacious kraal So overwhelming the presence of tablers from Walvis, Windhoek and Hochland Yes, you guessed it, the sergeant has his roots in Deutschland The German employed to do what he does best Exterminating attendees’ rudeness though he himself was a guest The honours of Sergeant bestowed upon him by no other than Amize He graciously accepted the Chairman’s request to serve and to please When men are many, loud and merry And you realise the coloureds left at home their cherrie You’ve guessed correctly, in session is a Round Table meeting And the Sergeant gave most tablers a slight hint of a ‘beating’ However, when the offences are over you realise the meeting has come to an end And together we share one last drink, Mark’s famous but secret blend We all had fun and more than just a simple laugh High in June is Welwitschia’s attendance graph

Projects Quenching thirsts on Golf Day Philippe Fouche The Ficksburg High School Golf day was held on 05 June 2021 at the Ficksburg Golf Club. Round Table 98 sponsored a "watering hole" on the day which was very well attended by all of the participants. As projects go this was not one that was meant to be profitable yet rather to simply support our local high school, but as we all know if you put a few Tablers in a room an idea for a event is bound to pop up! This brainstorming lead to the "Corona Chipping Challenge”, humor after all can be one of our best survival tools as said by Allen Klein. The idea of this challenge was to chip into a steel Corona Beer ice bucket placed several meters away with the prize being a six pack of Corona Beer in a Corona ice bucket. The response from the golfers on the day was amazing, it is fair to say that every participant had a good laugh at our play on words and that, in such trying times, it put a smile on many faces. We would like to thank Super

The Ficksburg High School GolfSpar Ficksburg for the donation of the Corona beer and buckets and Sasol Ficksburg for the ice that was sponsored. The day was one filled with great fellowship and gave a chance to highlight the fact that not all good is done through monetary means and that sometimes simply putting a smile on someone’s face makes a positive difference in their day.

CrossBoarder R5 Project Christiaan Herbs

After our meeting / Raid from Parys 88 the next morning me as pipeliner that was broken next to the fire that wanted to keep it going with the big dogs (everyone saw the picture in RT ) . we got up after minimum hour sleep well it felt like it after a great night of fellowship, we got into a convoy with the RT 88 Parys guys and we got on the road from Halfway bar and we made our way to Centurion Foodlovers market being on time for our Project RT 19 already got the Gazebo and all the trollies ready for the people to drop the goodies in for us at the Exit of the foodlovers market. After our Arrival not even having a chance to have a quick coffee RT 19 shoved the pamphlets and the R5.00 coins in our hands and said lets rock this day, Desmond de Swart , Franco Kruger and Johlan Bishops took me under there wing and showed me the ropes after a while me as pipeliner got like heavy exited as the guys from RT 19 came and told us what fantastic work where doing at the entrance because the tollies are just filling up with amazing goodies and the people are just so pleased with our work that we doing for the less fortunate and the way we run the project in giving the first R5.00. After a while when the Babblelas kicked in the guys from 88 Parys decided that I’m doing such a great work

at the entrance not letting a single person pass me with out a R5.00 and a pamphlet, they decided it was a great time to hit the long road back home and that their work is done showing me what it means to give your time and dedication to help others in need. I must add that they thought me as well that it’s not everyone that’s going to help you or see the need to help others in desperate need. There where a few times that I felt like in what society am I living in that you would scream and shout at some one that’s asking you to help others, that day was definitely an eye opener for me as pipeliner to see with what kind of people are out there, I for curtain grew a hair on my teeth but also I did see the beauty of the people that donated and dropped off in goodies in our trollies, there where people that bough is way more than what was expected. At the end of the day with everyone help at the entrance and putting up the Gazebo and all the tear drops early the morning for making us as Round table visible for the public, we gathered in approximately + - R 13 000.00 (6 trollies full) of goodies that was fantastic to see. We split the Merchandise between RT 136 and 19 to be used or handed out to beneficiaries.

Golf Days RT 179 Jaco Crafford

It started with warm greetings and excitement, as Sasolburg tablers and ladies, were ready to host an exciting tournament, in trying to help their local community!!

Tablers and 41ers from other regions of STNOFS also attended this epic golfday, and well done to Sasolburg 41 on a well run golf day, which saw lots of compliments and uniqueness on the day, making it fun for all!!

Table News Parys 88 raids Pretoria 136 Marko Hall Why do we raid other tables? Is it just for the fellowship or is there something more? Well in the case of Parys 88 coming to visitourPta136 meeting it was both. A big hype was building on the 136 group with the news that 88 was planning to visit us with their out of area raid draw. The chairman of 88 and previous 136 tabler Des “die machine" de Swardt notified us on their intention to pay us a visit. It was thought by our Chairman Antonie Smit to move our business meeting a few days earlier and change our venue to accommodate our visitors. With regulations as they were we wanted to ensure a decent fellowship after the meeting and IPP Christo Bezuidenhoudt made Half Bar available, with all protocols observed; for our meeting and home hosting. The week leading up to what can be called my best experience as a raid; the WhatsApp group was a buzz. As the big hype that

Raymond Spiers was also booked for this trip. The hype around his impending visit had fellow tablers Wian Vogel and Marcu Krigler in a big of a doubt to spend the night at Halve Bar. (Well we think Wian had his man card revoked). As the day of the meeting (and raid) broke, we were constantly being updated with the progress made by 88 on their journey towards Half Bar. The anticipation and excitement was building for one legen….wait for it……..dary night of fellowship. As the meeting started off introductions where made and we had the pleasure of having Parys 88 being represented by Desmond de Swardt chairman,

Johlan Bishops vice, Franco Kruger “ the voice note warrior” and Raymond SpiersIt was truly great getting feedback from a fellow table on how we manage our projects and what they can take from them, as well as getting input on how they manage similar projects. We handed a raided item we took earlier this year from 88’s clubhouse back to them. As the time went closer to curfew we had to greet some our fellow 136 brothers as they had prior arrangements the Saturday morning (paintball practice) and one that we still don’t know if he was worried about Raymond or if his man card was held by his beloved. .

As the meeting closed we where full on in fellowship mode. Our pipeliner ensured braaied meat and a well managed bushveld TV. With drinks flowing stories where shared and brotherly bond where being built. For my first proper raid as a tabler this was an experience like none other. Franco, who supported my BRA-PRIL project, handed me my first banner, made out to the chairman of PTA139 (this is a joke referring to my project coin). We decided to pull out the Yard of Ale to cement the fellowship of the night and from here it went downhill, as our IPP Christo gave us a lecture starting with the size of Tiger Woods’ “putter" to, how Hamilton is not all he thinks he is to, how Djokovic and Nadal are legendary beyond words. As the tablers fell one by one, and a broken pipeliner later, I found myself and Franco sharing life stories, and this was more than just fellowship, knowing that I have just added another brother. The realization that I have someone just a phone call away I can ring up if days get bad or just to say Hi.

With sunrise only an hour away Franco and me called it a morning and had a bit of a rest. Well rest is all it was. Standing at the bar counter with everyone still in bed I decided that this is not on, we still had a project to do and our pipeliner the convener was still out for the count. Thus I did what I had to do, TV max volume and “gooiing" Gé Korsten’s Liefling, I had everyone up in under 2 minutes and Halve Bar almost a truss missing as Desmond almost went right through it. I do wish to thank Parys 88 for aiding with our R5 project before they headed back home, this was a special way to finish off a raid for my book. The bonds formed with this raid are bonds that will always be a part of my table career. Once again Parys 88 we would like to thank you for making the trip and for your invite back to you for a raid, be sure we are planning to do so.

Lampie Nicus Bok Bok Prinsloo Some Tables have seen our fellowship lampie, as you all know how a fellowship throphy works. Whomever brought forward the initiative has to have been a good man with some insight into fellowship into a man’s organization. Our oil lamp that used to be used underground that saved some men’s lives back in the day is being used to save friendships between tablers. The lamp got so famous and built up heritage, 2020 AGM we had to update our rules about the lampie’s followers Namely Jimmy and James, we think that little James went on a bender with Coenie Engelbreght’s add on Jimena and the outcome of that relationship is little Johannes. A positive way to see it is that our club is now racial correct with Johannes, although the earing is too much in my opinion.

If I could have been a fly on the wall at the parties that this lampie and Jimmy have seen and the fellowship they were a part of, although now I think that’s why James and Jemina ran away. At RT Stilfontein 53 we do our best to adopt the old traditions and try our best to adapt change in them and to improve ourselves through them.

Bring & Braai Social

The midweek public holiday brought about a fortuitous opportunity for a social. Basson invited the gang around to his place for a “bring & braai”, which was a welcome relief for all as an excuse to socialise, & let loose a little.

The braai was well attended by all tablers, including legs, & 41'ers. It was great being able to hang out with everyone outside of the normal business meeting environment. Moments like this are why we decided to join table. We're a brotherhood that comes together not just for our community, but for our social needs & fellowship too.

Free State Area Chairman Visit Phillipe Fouche On 01 June 2021 Ficksburg Round Table 98 received its official visit from our Free-State area chairman Mr. Louis du Toit, accompanied by his Area Vice Chairman Mr. P.G Grove, Mr. JustinDean van Wyk Area IRO and Mr. Juan Viljoen of Bloemfontein Round Table 158. The meeting was held with all regular formalities and went off without a hitch. During the meeting the Area Chairman held a very informative lecture on the aims of the Area in general for the following year and on how we as members of Round Table can look inward and approach and appreciate as to why we are part of this great organization that is Round Table. For us as members of Ficksburg Round Table 98, and I think, especially for the Area Chairman Mr. Louis du Toit, it was a special meeting as Round Table 98 is our Area Chairman's mother Table. This once again proves that in Round Table no matter ones background or beginnings there is no height that is unattainable to any member should he put his mind to it. On conclusion of the meeting good fellowship was had with the exchanging of clubhouse flags and pins being the order of the day. From Ficksburg Round Table 98 we would like to thank all the Area members, as well as Bloemfontein Round Table 158 for the visit, and to wish all our Area representatives the best of luck for the year to come. I would like to leave you with a quote from Mr. Louis du Toit that has stuck in my head regarding Round Table which is: “Where possible travel, travel, travel".

Passing the Buck –The Story of the Yellow Crate Pienaar Allers Gents, at Round Table PE West 142 we have “The Buck Passing” and is supposed to get passed monthly before the next business meeting. The idea with this is to promote social activity and to get to know each tabler, pipeliner or vistor better. So the buck was not passed for many many moons and I had my fair share of words, threats, blows, beatings and embarrassment by my fellow tablers for not passing a buck which I did not have as we all thought it was raided. To a point where I was busy getting a new one made. So, the story of the yellow crate, I stuck to my guns through all the phases of the moons that the original “buck” was in a yellow crate following our 50th anniversary and so I did many follow with the tabler in possession of the yellow crate and it was claimed it was not there. Funny how it surfaced a few months later from the “yellow crate”, thanks “Mr Mayor” you still owe me a drink. 😊 With that sorted and tradition back, I invited fellow tabler Shaun Vermaak for an evening of refreshments at our local Keg & Swan in Port Elizabeth. This is where I again realised the importance of the “Passing of the Buck” and social part of Round Table in general is. I have come to known Shaun much better and I am sure he also did. From general problems in life to cleaning swimming pools and meeting up with old school friends, a lot was discussed and talked about. The refreshments certainly helped our tongues. Shaun thanks for the great evening buddy its was awesome. To Round Tablers I would encourage such activity at your tablers or even at area level and grow the fellowship. To my fellow 142 buddies, please note that I am the only table in the history following all the shenanigans that has ever passed the buck twice in a row, although moons apart. Beat that! 😊

Raid-A-Thon 2021 Sathy Thambapilai 3 days. 3 consecutive business meetings. That's the tweet sis. On the real though, the Windhoek tables had the pleasure of being graced by the presence of our illustrious area chairman, Mr Jens Van Vuuren, who ordinarily is stationed in the coast. As such the 3 Windhoek tables decided to shift our meetings around, to create what we've dubbed "Raid-A-Thon 2021" (no one apart from me is calling it that ), in order to create a bumper series of raids, meetings, fellowship, & shenanigans. The festivities kicked off on Thursday night. Windhoek 34 held their business meeting, well attended by all their members, & raided by Hochland 154, as well as Welwitschia 213 (represented by Amize Adams, the honorary Hochland tabler). We started off with a short prayer for our brother Loubser Rousseau. After which a lively meeting was had whereby all matters were heavily scrutinised, particularly due to the abundance of finance bros in attendance. The sergeant was on top of his game & doled out punishments left, right, & centre. Friday night brought about Welwitschia 213's meeting. Most notable was the induction of their newest tabler, Romeo Arendse. Shout out to you Romeo on officially becoming a tabler. We're looking forward to your long & prosperous table career. #LiveLongAndProsper #GangGang

Saturday morning was the turn of Hochland 154. An early morning start was no match for the tablers as banter was flowing from early on. The meeting got underway, & thankfully we managed to breeze through the agenda, especially as most of the finance bros thankfully weren't in attendance to duke it out. The meeting was well attended by all members of Hochland 154, most of Welwitschia 213 & Windhoek 34, as well as a couple of 41'ers who decided to join the party. A quick boerie roll & some drinks post meeting were had, which happened to turn into a bit of a kuier thereafter. The purpose of "Raid-A-Thon" was for all tablers to gain an insight into the nuances in which each table operates, what projects they're involved in, & how we as a gable, & individual tablers can pitch in & assist our comrades. It was also great to socialise & get to know one another on a personal level, for which opportunities have been few & far between over the past couple of months. The name of the game set out by our esteemed Area chair was fellowship.

Bushveld Winter Conference Garth Roeloffze Phalaborwa June 4 06:00 am: The morning has finally arrived Wintercon is here, it has been 2 years since the last Wintercon and the stories are still being told. The excitement is every where and we all feel like small kids on the morning of Christmas Day. Bags are packed and we are ready to go!! 07:00 am: I find myself at our EX RTSA Presidents house Christo Bezuidenhout ready for pickup. Antonie Smit (AKA DJ Snoopy) arrives and as old tablers know get that lining in the stomach. So Christo makes us a egg on toast sandwich as it might be a while before we get a bite to eat. 07:30 am: We arrive at Antonie Smith’s house and my other fellow Pretoria 136 Tablers await.

We pack the trailer and the cooler boxes with Marcu Kriegler our youngest tabler taking in his seat right at the back of the luxuries Ford Torreno (I Think) with all the coolers around and him being the man in charge of making sure our glasses are filled. As tradition has it at 136 we each get a number from one to eight and the numbers gets divided on the front left tire with tape indicating which number the tire stopped on, if your number is up it is a shot that you have to drink and I can promise you it was a very hot jeggie to start the day. 08:30 am: We have hit the road and yes all 8 already had a shot in and some numbers just had bad luck and had maybe one or two more than the other” maybe I think”. First stop the local gas station around the corner from where we left, yes a block away! We met up with Frikkie 5000

(Hein what’s his name from Pretoria 201) and his fellow tablers all dressed up in there camo green tipe of shirts they made for the trip. The gees is high and everyone is excited to get this Wintercon officially started, so we jump in our “bussies” hitting the road, first stop Pienaarsrivier Hotel for a cold beer and some how always a warm shooter. 09:45am: We have arrived at Pienaarsrivier Hotel and believe me there has been a few victims who suffered and grinded there way through a few jeggies!! So experience showed and the longest line at the toll gate was picked, why you ask, because it means we have to stop dead and then the victims who’s numbers gets picked off the wheel has to take his shot off course. When we arrived at Pienaarsrivier Hotel we got tears in our eyes, why? The Hotel was closed for renovations. But those tears of heart break soon turned into tears of joy as the bottle store next to it was open and we indulged in a few drinks outside in the parking lot of the Hotel. 201 was still missing a tabler and asked that we wait for him, according to Frikkie 5000 (Hein whats his name) his Mom is bring him through in the Merc so they will not be long. 10 minutes later still no Kyle and his Mom (Mommies boy).

10:30am we decided to hit the road as we wanted to get to Pietersburg and meet the Impala 151 boys at there club house for a drink and to see there club house. A few minutes after we left we received a photo of Kyle who finally arrived at the Hotel but it was not his Mom that dropped him off in the Merc but there land scaper in a Corsa Bakkie! On our way to Pietersburg we received a phone call from our other Pretoria Table None other than 87 saying we must meet them at Jakals Gat which is a very popular pub in Warmbad. Without hesitation we said yes and made our way to Warmbad. To give you an idea of direction in which we were heading to meet the Pietersburg boys before they leave for Phalaborwa is as follow. If we where driving North toward Pietersburg and which is the way to Phalaborwa we where now heading West completely in the wrong direction, but never the less we where going to meet up with our other tablers in Warmbad.

11:00 or 11:15 am: I think is what the time was that we arrived in Warmbad, but by this time , time clearly was not a factor for us as the jeggies was flowing and drinks coming from the back. One would think we where on our way to a Winter Conference by the behavior of the guys. We met up with the 87 guys and it was not long after that, that the 201 gentlemen joint us there as well. The Brandy was flowing and we were all enjoying the moment of being able to table together for the first time in a long, long time because of Covid. We all decided to drive in a convoy together to where ever we were going from there. 201 also picked numbers and put them on the wheel and played along. Some of us jumped in there bus and there guys jumped in our bus. We were back on the road! 12:30 to 13:00 pm: Honestly I am just making up these times now to make the article look good and to fit in with the diary tipe article, I had no idea what the time lines is from here forward, and that makes me wonder why they asked me to write this article. “Gees” was flowing and we were off back on track again for Phalaborwa. Guys jumping from one bus to the other stopping along the way. 16:00 pm: Carrying all the way through to Tzaneen 96 where they welcomed us with open arms and a Vetkoek and Mince. By this time we all might have been over served a few drinks or two and needed to get that lining again for the remainder of the trip to Phalaborwa. We have been going on 7 hours and 30min on the road on a actually 6 hour journey to Phalaborwa which is still another 2 hours drive more or less away.

Time Left Tzaneen Unknown Phalaborwa here we come, O before I forget we lost a fellow tabler along the way who was sharing his meal of the day with everyone at the local gas station in Tzaneen. He was ok and took a little bit of a nap on the way further. From here is where we lost all control and the memory seriously started to fade on the happenings of the day. So from what I remember it took us quite a while to get to Phalaborwa where we missed the turn off and ended up taking an extra 30minute journey with a sober driver. Time of Arrival think around 19:30pm all of us falling out of the bus and in complete pitch black darkness, as load shedding had hit Phalaborwa. I did not know that a foreign city could be impacted by load shedding in South Africa, that is how long that trip felt and with Phalaborwa not being around the corner. Next step setting up camp. Man was that a sight to see and an experience unlike anything I have ever seen, because I could not see anything or stand up straight. Finally we managed to setup camp and off we went to join Wintercon 2021 in total darkness. We all just got around the fire and tabled like there was no tomorrow. Lights came on and we all registered and party got a whole lot better. As the evening progressed old and new stories were told and new memories were starting to be created. One by one the guys started hitting the hay but yes you have those few who suffer from FOMO (Fear of missing out), and they stuck it through the night. life and the hang over is making me feel like I went 12 rounds with Mike Tyson. As I was one of the two to represent Pretoria 136 at the meeting we got dressed without a shower as we had no water. Believe me when I say it the reason for that being that an Elephant tramped on the water pipes. No jokes however I still think there was a few guys who were not phased by that at all. Before meeting start’s we enjoyed a “lekker” breakfast to get the day going again.

13:15pm: meeting was closed and Round two of tabling has begun or should I say some guys are still fighting in round one since the previous morning. It also then came to our attention the damages on the Torreno where a panel somehow fell of and a fog light was broken. You can see the stress in Antonies eye’s as he knows that Debbie (his wonderful Wife) was going to hang him up by his ears, even saying that he is going to reverse the Torreno in as the side she comes out in the morning to go to work she will not see the damages. Back to Wintercon and the atmosphere and “gees” was about to pick up again after the meeting was completed. Once again the guys were sharing stories of past and what table has done for them, ideas and planning of project, getting each other’s input. It was just amazing taking in what everyone was sharing, you cannot buy that experience any where and that is what table is all about, is to grow as an individual and putting yourself out there.

09:00am: Winter Conference Meeting starts, everyone very quite at that point and the night before still playing it’s part. Meeting was absolutely brilliantly with where each table is at and the impact they have made thus far in the year. One can see the passion in everyone wanting to make the world a better place. The reports from each and every one of the committee members was out of the top draw, specifically Sarel Ras Bushveld IRO/PRO. The feedback from the floor was amazing and when he reads this he can be proud. Trophies PTA 136 walked away with yet another trophy on the day in that being the writers cramp trophy. I had the honor of receiving it on behalf of our Table and it sure was a proud moment for us as PTA 136.

18:00 pm: The spit came off and we all jumped in to grab a bite to eat. By this time most of the guys were all flame sharp again as the Brandy had kicked in. Some guys had already gone to bed mostly those who was still fighting in round one since the previous morning and others got a second breath of air and there was no stopping. 19:00 pm: I decided to pull a Ninja Dust and went off to bed, I could hear the guys having the time of there life’s and just kept on going. 23:30 pm: I got up to go to the loo when our Ex RTSA President Christo Bezuidenhout spotted me and called me to join them around the fire. There were still a few guys around the fire and could barely make out what they were saying and as if they were standing on coals, because they could not stand up straight. 00:00 am: I once again pulled a Ninja Dust and went back to bed. A while later I could hear there were silence for the first time the whole weekend as everyone was finally a sleep or either passed out. 06:00 am: Slowly one, by one we all got up and I wish I could take a picture of every bodies faces, it was priceless to see the condition of some of the guys and you could see that they are about to cry because of the way they were feeling. It was one of those weekends were we say “What are your plan for the weekend” and then answering to make mistakes!! That exact expression is what I saw in some of the guys faces.

07:30 am: I left the PTA 136 guys to hit the road as I got a lift with one of our other tablers Paul Combrink, there just was not enough space for all of us in that bus. 08:00 am: We hit the road with our Ex Area Chair Leon De Lange back to Tzaneen where he resides to pick up his partner and then to hit the road to Pretoria. I have never felt so uncomfortable to greet a Lady not having bathed for 3 days. Good impression I am leaving them with! 09:30 am: We were on the road back to Pretoria and I could not wait to get home, with all of us in the car just taking in the whole weekend and quietly creeping towards Pretoria. 13:00 pm: I finally got home and was so glad to see the family and sharing the weekend with them. In closing: This was my first Winter Conference and boy was it one to remember, It was one of the best experiences one could have and was so, so glad I could have made those memories with my fellow tablers. To each and every tabler out there guys you are truly one of a kind and I am so glad to be part of Round Table and the impact we have on our communities.

07:00 am: we all grabbed a quick coffee and Ouma Rusk to get the day started before we need to take that journey back home. Tents were packed up and loaded and the guys ready to go home.

RTI Vice Visits

Wian Gouws

Middelburg 126 had the great honor to had RTI Vice-President come and join Middelburg 126 Business Meeting on th 7 th of April 2021. .

Naboom Hunting Trip Lance Weyer Nahoon 160 has been converted… After Cyril only allowed travel during lockdown for hunting purposes in 2020, our usual Boy’s Weekend and the beach turned into a hunting weekend. Since then, 3 new rifles and a game farm have been purchased, and we now qualify for a bulk discount from Sniper Africa for camo gear! The second edition of out Hunting Weekend was once again hosted by Dylan Thompson of Queenstown 16 at Aloe Grove from 4 to 6 June. Fellow Queenstownian, Morne “Pottie” Potgieter, assisted with the heavy lifting… particularly deadlifting a very large zebra stallion down a mountain, which nearly burnt out the bakkie’s winch!

Several Queenstown 16 tablers joined us for a venison braai on Saturday night… which Lance and Dave had to begrudgingly shoot in advance ;-) I can confidently say that a fantastic time was had by all in attendance! One bullet, one animal… except perhaps for Dave… Sadly, Dylan’s father and Queenstown 41er, Julian Thompson, passed away this year, and his presence was very much missed! Special mention must go to our pipeliner, Wesley Braun, who took down his first Rowland Ward waterbuck! Good luck Wez when you finally have to break the news to your wife regarding the additional cost to those extra few inches… Looking forward to 2022!

MASS RAID

Come Hell or High water.

Brandewyn & Coke. Jason het die Bethlehem petalje so opgesom: “The trip to Bethlehem 60 was a carefully planned and constructed event, not only was it part of the Bloem 25’s Mass Raid of 6 tables in one evening, but myself and Marius Louw would be arriving from completely opposite directions. Marius would be driving through from Joburg and myself from Bloem. However we did find the clubhouse on the hill overlooking the town and that is where the first bit of fellowship started.Being a first time raider it was a truly amazing experience to stand there chatting to complete strangers as if we were long lost buds, swapping stories, ideas and traditions from each of our respective tables.

The meeting was started just after the braai fire was lit, it was going to be a good evening. After the meeting was dragged on slightly by our very own Marius Louw and his fondness of point general, the fellowship really took flight standing in front of the fire. It was a most enjoyable experience and hopefully we will see Bethlehem 60 in the Bloem 25 clubhouse soon.”

In JC se eie woorde: “On Friday the Bloem25 “mass raid” commenced and some of the troops and I were tasked to raid Welkom 40 and then move on to Kroonstad 42. The driver JC Coetzee was assisted by his navigator Ferando on what would hence forth be known as the “new road” just about 5cm above the old Bloemfontein-Welkom road. Our Bloem 25 guest Nico, decided he will drive on his own, not really feeling safe with the old man’s driving skills.

Needless to say, he did arrive in Bultfontein some 10 minutes before us. An onwards we went to meet Welkom 40 at their social clubhouse, Rovers!..We were greeted in a wet and cold Welkom at around 18:00 and without many words spoken, straight into the formality of fellowship. After the first fellowship round we were surprised with the best biltong in and around the Northern Freestate! This was greatly appreciated since food was not at the top of the list for the raiding party. The meeting was opened, and banners were exchanged. Great stories and laughs followed, some of the best topics, Wagyu and Rum. We will certainly have to make the next trip to Welkom to enjoy Leon’s Wagyu burgers and Whistler rum. Welkom 40 certainly has some of the most welcoming and hospitable gentlemen and we felt right at home. It was really not an easy task to leave. We only had two hours to get as much raiding in as possible before we had to leave for Kroonstad.

If we could, we would have stayed in Welkom the whole Friday night, but unfortunately, we had other plans to make a successful mass raid possible. At just before 20:00 it was onwards to Kroonstad. The road between Welkom and Kroonstad was made a lot shorter by Ferando and his conversational skills. We met Henry Denner at the Kroonstad 42 clubhouse just before 20:30 and in we went for what promised to be another highlight!”

Great Fellowship by RT25 moes Adopt en Adapt. ! Onverbeterlik. Great

sosiale vergadering gewees .

News from the Ladies A Word from Ladies Circle SA President Cheslyn Dunlop As I write this article my heart is saddened at what is happening in our beautiful country. During these times I am privileged to be part of Ladies Circle South Africa as we are doing our utmost best to help our communities. The past month on the National Board has definitely had its challenges but at the same time the work we do is so rewarding. I have learned so much in the past few weeks, we have seen so many devastating cases within our community. These are the times where our hard work pays off. I am really proud of all the work the circles have put in to help the people in our country. Mandela Day is coming up this Sunday 18th July and I have inspired the Ladies to get involved and share what they will be doing with their 67 minutes. General fundraisers are will also be held within the next few months. This is what our ladies will be up to: Louis Trichardt Ladies Circle 4: hosted a Golf day on 26th June in helping a young gentleman Corrie Dercksen raise funds for he’s prosthesis. They managed to raise R22000.00 and are still looking for donations. LC4 have a few other projects coming up in the next few months.

Edenvale Ladies Circle 6: Will be spending their 67 minutes making 67 sandwiches and handing them out to those in need. They have also been busy with a ‘Warm the Streets’ Project. Each Kit costs R100 and includes a Beanie, Blanket, gloves, socks and a tin of food. They have handed out approximately 18 kits. It really goes a long way in these chilly conditions we face. Northridge Ladies Circle 7: will be visiting Nordic Husky Rescue to deliver dog food. They will also be visiting Vital Med where they will be handing out Soup. Shiraz Ladies Circle 8: They are busy with a Blanket and Food drive for the month of July.Drop off points have been allocated where the community can donate blankets and non-perishable foods. P E Pearls Ladies Circle 19: are working side by side with Round Table Algoa 108 and are collecting 67 tins of pet food to donate to Save a Pet.

We also have another Circle In-Formation: The ladies from Newcastle are also very excited for their journey within Ladies Circle. They have fantastic ideas and we hope to meet up with them very soon. With all that is happening in our Country at the moment all I can say is that we need to stand together as a community, help those in need and do the what we can to overcome this. Yours in Circle

Hi tablers, my journey was a quick start. Table 195 Zwartkops wanted members, I was looking at giving back to my local and surrounding community areas. As I have been blessed with an amazing company that I'm owner of, I don't just want to give money away, but actually give my time to others. I know this is the perfect place and the right people to do this with. Duncan Morris (chairman of 195) asked me if he could do a boerewors braai outside my Butcher shop for charity. I didn't even think twice and said yes, got invited to a meeting at the 195, to see what round table is all about. While sitting in the meeting as a visitor looking in, I was blown away by the good that has been done and plans going forward for good being done for different communities. I really thought about it and wanted to get stuck in! Now I'm a pipeliner and can't wait to get stuck in! Jared Dyer

My Covid-19 Experience My run in with COVID-19 started late Sunday night to early Monday morning the 6th and 7th of June 2021. I started getting flu symptoms late night of Sunday and since it is flu season I assumed I have my general run in with it. Therefore I only took my usual flu medication and immune boosters as I usually would when I had flu and thought no more of it. Monday morning at work my boss, Rüdiger Rüffler told us that we have to keep our distance as he thinks that he and his family are positive with COVID and that he will go for testing later that day. The next day Gawie Koekemoer came to the workshop to let us know that Rüdiger tested positive and if one of us is not feeling well we should get tested as well. My colleugue and brother-in-law (whom have also been feeling unwell since the weekend) then asked our workshop foreman Bernd Menges that he doesnt feel well and wanted to go home. The following day he was tested positive as well...by now I was getting very worried. I therefore went to my foreman and said that I too was feeling unwell. He told me just to finish my work and then go home. I called my Doctor and he told me that I should first go see him. I went there (please note that I wore a long sleeved shirt and pants as well as a buff, hoodie and gloves as not to get other people infected as well as keep a distance from everyone around me) and he told me that I am still early in my development for the virus and would test negative if I went to test that day. He told me to wait until the 4th or 5th day after I started feeling unwell...which would be on Thursday...and that I should self-

isolate for the time being. So the whole isolation started. I didn't at first let anybody know as I didn't want a panic if I tested negative so I just kept to myself. Just let me explain this...this would be the first time without my wife since 17 November 2018 when we got married so this was quite new and quite hard to sleep without my better half next to me. Thursday I went for testing at Lady Pohamba on the left at the laboratorium which was on the 1st floor at room 15 and 16. I sat there for about 10 min before a nurse took me in a private room (sanitizing everything as we went). Then she stuck 2 swabbs in me...one down my nose the other down my throat (nearly vomited). The following day around the same time I went for the test they sent me an sms telling me I am positive. I immediately texted everyone that I was in contact with during the time I was feeling unwell. I then gave my doctor a call again and made a booking for Monday the 14th. Also on Friday the 11th I recieved the horrible news that my Dealer Principal, Gawie Koekemoer, passed away due to COVID-19. Which made me worry evan more for my boss Rüdiger whom I heard was on the ventilators at this stage and things were not looking good. Over the weekend my symptoms developed from a flu to a cold. I believe it was all thanks to the medication which was given as well as the Ivermectin which I drank (1.5ml every second day with a glass of milk). Monday came and I went to the Doctor. He then booked me off until the 22nd of June and topped me off on all my medication.

By Wednesday I no longer showed any more symptoms of any kind but I still kept my distance as not to infect anyone else.

Story of a Pipliner

Friday I gave Rüdiger a call to find out how it was going. He was breathing very heavily and told me that he was affraid of going the same way as Gawie so I told him not to speak and get his rest in to feel better. On Sunday Johan (my colleague) gave him a call again and he said he was feeling much better but by Monday we received the call that he had passed away. To make matters worse over the weekend me and my wife assisted Ian and Tammy to sort the clothes from the Winter Knights project when I got the horrible news that my friend and his wife both had the virus and due to them being ill their first child of 6 months passed away as well.

My journey with Table started when Phill Du Plesiss (A member of Zwartkops 195) and I went on a deep sea fishing trip earlier this year.We got talking about the Round Table and Phill explained to me what it was about and what Tablers do. He invited me to be a guest at one of the business meetings.

In my heart I was broken and confused as to "why" this is all happening. The words from Ertjie still in the back of my head that this virus will strike close to home. So true...Fanie Becker (my uncle), Louis Greef and Gert Dahms...both friends of the family, and Tertius Annandale also passed away.

My first project for Round Table was to be able to assist in donating money to Cape Recife High School for a special hearing aid that a child required. It was a wonderful experience and it felt great to be part of an organization that gives back to the community.

So yes, I had an experience with the virus. But even though I had a physical attack from the virus...it held no comparison to the emotional damage that this virus caused me. I would just like to say that we should keep faith and keep support to all those affected by this virus.

I studied at the University of the Freestate in Bloemfontein where I befriended Jacques Van Wyk (Member of the Kenton Round Table) and Daneel Meiring (Member of the Kirkwood Round Table). We are still good friends today.

Yours In Table, Richard Becker.

I am currently a project manager in the FMCG sector. I am married to my lovely wife, Lisa. She is a teacher. We have a little a boy, Luke, who will be turning two in August. Steven Neuper -Pipeliner

International News RTI Honor Medal Arno Kotze Graham Cornelissen The 90’s TV show Highlander popularised this popular belief and motto. With regards to the RTI Tabler of the Year award, it holds true. There can only be one International Tabler of the Year amongst a plethora of worthy other candidates. It is impossible to honor and thank all those members going above and beyond in their service to their fellow man or Round Table. This shortcoming of a lack of awards and our need to thank these extraordinary individuals lead to the creation of the RTI Honor medal. This medal is handed out for extraordinary efforts on behalf of an individual who has had a profound impact not only on their local community but also on the larger Round Table fraternity. There are a limited amount of medals available every year. Most years, the total amount has not been handed out. Per the RTI Officers’ Handbook, the rules regarding these medals are as follows: Honor medals are a limited number of medals under the control and purview of the RTI President. The RTI President may allocate certain of these medals to RTI Board Members, but in all instances must give final approval on who this is given to. All recipients of these honor medals must be listed on the RTI Honor role.

In practice, anyone nominated by a board member gets discussed internally by the board to determine if the achievement warrants this level of recognition. This unbiased process ensures that only the most worthy candidates receive these medals. Receiving this medal is a tremendous honor. It is the physical manifestation of the impact that you have made, both locally and abroad and should always be worn as a source of pride for many years. In honor of Arno Kotze and his extraordinary efforts in receiving a RTI Honor medal during the AMI meeting He is only the 5th South Africa ever to receive it – As RTSA we can be very proud to have the second most winners of the honor medal in all of RTI.

From The Global Ginger Part II: Setting your destination A goal is a dream with a deadline – Napoleon Hill Setting goals is something that we have all done in the past, and the majority of people assume themselves masters in this sphere. Correct goal setting is vitally important - setting incorrect goals is a significant contributor to failure and is especially damaging to team morale.Goalsetting must always be a collaborative effort to ensure buy-in from all role players. Determining what the goals should be is quickly done through visualisation. Professional athletes use visualisation extensively and often. For our purposes, a similar but longer-term approach must be followed. Close your eyes and imagine where you would like to be in your club, business or personal life in the future. Focus on the emotions that you would like to feel in this future and note this down. The key here is to begin by imagining and visualising how it will be at the end of this entire process. When working in teams, consider discussing each person’s visualisations to distil the essence of the collective thoughts. Take some time to write this down in detail and be specific so that anyone can refer back to this for clarity. Once a clear future has been decided on (the goal), we must compare this to our current realities: see Part I of this series. There will be significant differences between your current reality and the imagined future – acknowledge this and agree that the current reality needs to change to get to the imagined future.

In moving from the current reality to the desired goal, it is important to agree and write down specific milestones on how the goal will be achieved. There are several popular methods available in goalsetting, with some of the more popular being to set SMART or SPIRIT goals. Both of these methodologies focus on being realistic with a timeframe and that the actions to achieve the goal must be practical and specific. Some goals will be quick and straightforward to complete. In contrast, others will take multiple interventions over a more extended period – For these longer goals, break this up into certain milestones which can be measured at a regular basis. These milestones will be the small battles that will lead to the overall victory. Write down the goals and milestones and discuss this to ensure that all the role players are invested. Take any feedback into account and consider if the goals are realistic in the timeframes allowed. Reaching consensus here is of the utmost importance as the future leaders will drive this long after current leadership has stepped away. Now that a clear destination is set, the journey towards a better future can start. Using the techniques as outlined above, take some time to set your own goals and milestones in the next month, before we end with Part III of our journey. We will end our journey in Part III by monitoring, adjusting and fine-tuning these goals as we continue to stay on track with achieving our goals.

Surviving Corona Financially Part I

Graham Cornelissen What we took for granted just weeks ago is no longer certain. Our freedom is restricted in many places and each of us has been impacted in some way. With no immediate end in sight, we will have to deal with uncertainties for the foreseeable future. During uncertain times the ability to adapt to our ever-changing realities will be essential in our lives.Luckily for us as Tablers, adapting to change is part of our daily routine as well as our motto. We would each need to adapt in our daily lives in order to survive this pandemic from a financial point of view. And the key to our financial survival lies in cash. Salaried employees need to urgently review their monthly budgets and cut out spending that is not required. They key is to try and save as much as possible of your available cash on a monthly basis. Now is not the time to buy a new car or the latest piece of technology, downgrade where possible. Take a critical look at each and every expense and consider if this is absolutely needed. The adage of trying to save 10% of your income is no longer enough as significantly more needs to be saved due to the uncertainty that we are facing. Realise that there is tremendous uncertainty in the market at this stage and that no job can be secure indefinitely. If possible, try and still get the work done and show that you are an invaluable member of the team. Walk the hard yards now that might reap the rewards later. We plan for the worst by being our best.

Business owners face different challenges than their employees but have very similar decisions hard to make. Certain industries are more protected than others from the immediate effect, but all business is interlinked. Hospitality and travel might face the initial brunt of the virus, but other sectors will follow soon enough, leading to some of your clients possibly not getting paid by their clients. Once again, it is imperative to reconsider all expenditures on an individual basis. Rather scale down than to purchase a good or service and then not pay. Saving as much money as possible is critical to ensure that these non-negotiable expenses still gets covered. Potential layoffs are probably one of the most difficult decisions to be made but remember that everyone will lose their job of the business fails. Whilst it is easy to only see the negative, everyone must also consider the role that technology can play in generating additional funds. Individuals could sell some of their skills on a freelance basis to earn some additional money. Businesses can save money by hosting virtual meetings and using technology to generate more sales. This will not be possible for everyone though. Some countries have extensive help to both individuals as well as businesses going through these times.Explore these options and take the assistance that is on offer. In times like these, we all must take whatever assistance that we can get.
