Farmers are slowly turning back to nature to grow bigger and healthier crops, and the answer is simple: biofertilizers! For decades, chemical fertilizers in the Philippines were seen as the magic solution, but overuse has damaged soils and harmed the environment. Now, the shift toward organic farming and biofertilizers is taking over, promising farmers a better way to boost their yields and profits.
Biofertilizers—made from natural plant residues and beneficial microbes—help restore the soil's fertility while increasing crop metabolism and protecting plants from stress. Unlike chemical fertilizers, biofertilizers are eco-friendly and improve soil health, leading to better-quality crops and higher yields. This sustainable farming method is on the rise across ASEAN countries, where farmers are reaping the rewards of healthier soils and bigger profits.
In 2023, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. pushed for the adoption of biofertilizers in the Philippines, aiming to reduce the country’s reliance on costly imported chemical fertilizers. Farmers are now seeing firsthand how these organic solutions can lead to richer, more productive land.
As biofertilizers gain popularity, experts say they could be the key to a greener, more sustainable future in agriculture. With benefits that include improved soil texture, increased nutrients, and even disease prevention, biofertilizers are not just better for the environment—they’re better for farmers too. The future of farming is green, and it starts with biofertilizers!
In a stunning show of support, farmers from key provinces across the Philippines have voiced their confidence in Department of Agriculture (DA) Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr. A recent ground survey conducted by a think tank firm revealed that an overwhelming majority of farmers approve of Secretary Laurel’s leadership.
In an independent survey conducted by a think tank firm out of 107 verified farmers, 87 gave Secretary Laurel a positive rating, while only 8 expressed dissatisfaction. 12 farmers were undecided. The survey's results come at a time when the agriculture sector is at the heart of the nation's concerns, with rising food prices and the urgent need for modernization.
Farmers who approved of the secretary’s leadership mentioned tangible improvements in agricultural programs under his watch. Many expressed hopes that these reforms will continue and called for a direct communication line to his office to address their concerns more swiftly. Laurel, who was appointed by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on November 3, 2023, has been spearheading efforts to modernize the Philippine agricultural sector. His mission is clear: to increase rice yield, reduce the country’s dependence on imports, and lower food prices for Filipinos.
In a statement earlier this year, Laurel outlined a bold plan to mechanize farming, build more infrastructure, and integrate the latest technology in agriculture. His
vision aims not only to enhance farm productivity but also to make agriculture a lucrative investment for both local farmers and young Filipinos.
“We need to ensure that our farmers get fair value for their produce while making food affordable for all Filipinos. Our farmers have long been overlooked, and we’re working to change that,” Laurel said.
His three-year roadmap includes expanding agrifishery areas, modernizing farming systems, improving post-harvest infrastructure, and developing a more efficient logistics network. He emphasizes that competent leadership and a dedicated team are essential for success. Laurel’s team at the DA is the largest in history, with 13 undersecretaries and 14 assistant secretaries, each focusing on key areas to drive progress.
As Laurel pushes for modernization, his leadership continues to earn the trust of the nation’s farmers, proving that change is possible when driven by a clear vision and decisive action.
The Filipino farming community is hopeful, but they also want consistency in government efforts.
“Secretary Laurel has done well so far, but we need these programs to keep going. We want to make sure we are heard,” said one farmer.
With such widespread support, Secretary Laurel Jr. is now tasked with turning trust into tangible, longlasting change for the country’s agriculture sector.

Winning the Philippine elections requires a multifaceted approach that addresses both grassroots engagement and modern political strategies. First, building a solid platform that resonates with voters' needs—such as addressing poverty, job creation, healthcare, and education—is essential. Candidates must communicate their plans clearly and consistently. Second, strong local networks are crucial. Mobilizing community leaders, volunteers, and party organizations ensures a widespread presence on the ground. Grassroots campaigning, through door-to-door outreach, town hall meetings, and rallies, is key to connecting with voters personally. Third, mastering digital platforms is vital. Social media is a powerful tool for reaching younger, tech-savvy voters, engaging with them directly, and countering misinformation. A wellorganized and engaging online presence can amplify the campaign message and create a lasting impression. Lastly, remaining visible, accessible, and authentic throughout the campaign builds trust and credibility—essential factors in securing votes.

It’s shocking—nearly half of the Philippine population, 44.7%, is grappling with moderate to severe food insecurity. Even more heartbreaking, 29% of children are suffering from stunted growth, according to the FAO’s 2023 report. And the situation is worse in our poorest regions: BARMM, Region VIII, and XII. These grim statistics are not just numbers— they’re a wake-up call!
The phrase "food security" is often tossed around, but what does it really mean for us? It means access to safe, nutritious food that keeps us healthy and active. Food insecurity, on the other hand, is when families go to bed hungry, with no promise of enough safe food to live a decent life. Why is this happening in a country rich in agriculture?
We’ve been pushing our lands to the brink, using harmful chemical fertilizers that have drained the soil of its nutrients. Year after year, we’re planting, but what’s growing? Food that’s less safe and far from nutritious. The result? A cycle of poverty, malnutrition, and a future that looks dim for millions of Filipinos. But what if there’s a way out of this crisis? Enter organic products that can
revive our soil, boost crop yields, and produce safe, nutritious food. These microbial inoculants can increase plant growth by 10–40%, help plants resist diseases, and even shorten the time it takes for crops to be ready. The best part? They’re sustainable and safer for both the environment and the people. We cannot continue relying on expensive, chemicalbased fertilizers. They may offer quick results, but they’re costly, harmful to the environment, and unsustainable in the long run. Biofertilizers, on the other hand, are the future. They can fill the growing demand for food without sacrificing the health of our land or people.
It's time to take action. The government, farmers, and businesses need to come together to educate the public and promote the use of biofertilizers. If we want to fight food insecurity, this is a solution we can no longer ignore.
We’re at a crossroads. Will we continue down this path of hunger and malnutrition, or will we embrace a future where every Filipino has access to safe, nutritious food? Biofertilizers are the key to breaking the cycle and securing the future of the Philippines. The choice is ours—let’s not wait until it’s too late!

Despite a rise in life expectancy to 71.79 years, Filipinos are still battling deadly health issues that threaten lives every day. It’s alarming that while we’ve made progress, our health problems are as serious as ever. Dengue, for example, continues to wreak havoc, with over 167,000 cases reported in 2023. How is it that a disease we know so well still claims so many lives?
Measles is another dangerous player. Outbreaks in 2024 have pushed cases five times higher than the previous year, especially in BARMM. Meanwhile, diabetes quietly takes its toll, ranking as the sixth leading cause of death. It’s not just sugar—this disease brings heart attacks, strokes, and kidney failures, devastating families across the nation.
Tuberculosis? It’s killing 70 Filipinos a day. And with one person capable of spreading TB to 10 others annually, the fight feels never-ending. Then, there’s the king of killers— cardiovascular disease. Over 124,000 Filipinos lost their lives to heart conditions in 2023 alone. Cancer also remains a terrifying reality, with breast and lung cancers taking thousands of lives each year.
Pneumonia, once thought controllable, surged by 27% in 2023. And don’t forget HIV/AIDS, with over 26,000 new cases last year. The stigma is suffocating, stopping many from getting tested and treated.
What’s the solution? The answers aren’t new. Eat better. Move more. Stop smoking. Get vaccinated. It sounds simple, but it's our best defense. Along with health insurance, we can tackle these silent killers head-on. Let’s not wait until it’s too late. It’s time to fight back!
Davao City, Philippines — As the sun sets over Davao City, the glow of screens illuminates a growing shadow of despair: gambling addiction. With the rise of online gambling and sports betting, this silent epidemic is becoming a severe mental health concern that is too often ignored.
Dr. Paolo Woodruff Gonzales, a psychiatrist at the Institute of Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine of the Southern Philippine Medical Center (IPBM-SPMC), warns that the crisis is escalating at an alarming rate. “I had a patient just last week whose gambling debts reached P200,000, and he was experiencing suicidal thoughts,” Dr. Gonzales revealed. “The easy access to online betting and the availability of loan sharks are fueling this crisis.”
Despite the rising number of cases, gambling addiction still struggles for recognition as a public health issue. Dr. Gonzales believes it won’t be long before organizations like the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Department of Health (DOH) classify it as a major concern. “People with gambling problems struggle to control their impulses,” he explains. “Once they start playing, they’re in a zone. As long as they have access to money, they can’t stop. They take out loans, incur debts, or even sell belongings to continue playing, creating more problems.”
The psychiatrist points out that, without sufficient research, it's tough to determine just how many Davaoeños are battling this addiction. However, those who seek help often do so at a critical point. “These gamblers often hide their problems for years,” he said. “They don’t seek help until they hit rock bottom. Even their spouses may not know about their gambling problem.”
Stigma surrounding mental health issues, including gambling addiction, keeps many from reaching out for help. “It’s crucial to recognize gambling addiction as a mental health problem,” Dr. Gonzales stressed, calling for more awareness and support for treatment and rehabilitation.

dangers products, leaving dark. But we’ve uncovered the truth.
Chemical fertilizers, full of nitrogen and phosphates, run off into our lakes and rivers, causing toxic algae blooms and suffocating marine life. Worse, they pollute the soil with harmful elements like lead and arsenic, stripping away vital nutrients from the plants we eat.
And it’s not just the environment that’s in danger. Studies link chemicals in fertilizers to chronic diseases like Alzheimer's and diabetes. Nitrates from fertilizers enter our water and food supply, poisoning us slowly. Meanwhile, organic farming, which avoids these dangerous chemicals, has proven to produce more nutritious, antioxidant-rich crops.
It's time to question what’s really in our food and demand change before it’s too late.
EV batteries, often the heart of these cars, are sensitive to extreme heat. Overheating can lead to battery degradation, reduced performance, or worse— spontaneous fires! Some reports have surfaced about EVs catching fire in extreme conditions, causing panic among potential buyers in hot climates like ours.
But there’s more! In the Philippines, where air conditioning is a must, EVs face extra strain. With the AC running non-stop, the battery drains faster, meaning shorter driving ranges and more frequent charging. Plus, with the country’s charging infrastructure still in its infancy, EV owners could be left stranded on the road. So, while electric cars promise a greener future, is the Philippines' sizzling heat too much for them to handle?
It’s time to dig deeper and see if these eco-friendly rides are as safe as they claim to be in the tropical heat!

Last weekend, I found myself in the heart of Nueva Ecija, visiting Palayan City and Bongabon town. There, I witnessed something incredible—farmers proudly harvesting their crops, from juicy tomatoes to fiery green chilis, and the much-talkedabout onions. The farmers were beaming, thrilled with their onion yields, which they claim are bigger and better than ever!
What’s their secret? Unigrow—a soil conditioner that’s been transforming their harvests for three years now. The results are clear: onions grown with Unigrow are larger and of better quality than imported ones. One farmer confidently declared, “If the government supports us, there’s no need to import onions. We can supply the whole country’s food needs—palay, garlic, vegetables, and more.”
But there’s a storm cloud hanging over their success. Farmers fear predator-traders will swoop in, buying their produce at rock-bottom prices and selling them at skyhigh rates once the season ends. “We desperately need the government’s help,” said Mang Jess, “or all our hard work will go to waste because of greedy businessmen.” Interestingly, Palayan City is the home base of Unigrow, a product touted by its distributors as the solution to the country’s food shortage. According to Mr Jim Vistar, president and CEO of JCV Worldwide Traders Corporation, Unigrow doesn’t just increase yields but also slashes production costs, eliminating the need for fertilizers, pesticides, and more.If Unigrow is as miraculous as claimed, it could finally bring the Philippines closer to food sufficiency. But with big fertilizer and pesticide companies in the picture, one has to wonder—will they allow this revolution to happen? Your guess is as good as mine!
In a surprising twist of fate, the Unigrow team has been invited by Sheikh Hassan to the Emirate of Qatar to showcase their revolutionary biofertilizer. After a series of talks, this opportunity became a game-changer for agriculture in the region!
The Unigrow team landed in Qatar with one mission: to prove that their product can transform a portion of the dry land into a lush paradise. For three months, they tested Unigrow on a variety of crops, including dates, cucumbers, and other fruits and vegetables. The team was so confident that they boldly promised significant changes within just one month—and they delivered!
Leading the charge was Mr. Ronilo Gines, head of a team of agriculturists who oversaw the planting in greenhouses and surrounding areas. Their objective? To showcase the stark contrast in growth between plants treated with Unigrow and those that weren’t.
With such encouraging developments on the horizon, the Unigrow group has proven that their mission in Qatar was a resounding success. However, there’s a bittersweet twist: while Qatar is poised to reap the benefits of this innovative product, the Philippines, their home country, is left watching from the sidelines.

PBBM,INUTUSANANGDOE:BILISAN
