Notes from your RO
This year has started well, at Wakefield our first Advisory Day saw some excellent panels, with an anticipated high number of distinction acceptances, should all the advice be followed. This was the first in the new format, advising for several A Distinction categories and although there were some concerns about format, with how digital images were being viewed, we will continue with this arrangement throughout 2018, monitor and review if there has been any significant change to submissions and what effect this may have on the Region and the Society. Some of you may be aware that I have joined the Representative Committee, in representing the Regional Organisers on matters to advise Council. We have met twice, being quite proactive for a new group. The key points identified were: communications [both inwardly and externally] especially with members; the Journal; Education; and Volunteer support, so a good few months of work. My next meeting will be the Regional Organisers and SIGs meeting early in July. If anyone has any relevant and specific points that they may wish for me to try and address at the meeting, please email me before 20th June 2018.

Yorkshire Region Members’ Day and AGM - 21st April 2018 For everyone who attended the Region’s Members’ Day in April, I think you would agree this was again a successful and interesting day. We were fortunate to have both Carolyn Mendelsohn (centre image) and Ian Day FRPS as guest speakers. Displays and representatives from a range of interests and active groups from the region, such as the RPS Historical Group, RPS AV Group, a selection of photo books presented by John Pyatt FRPS, Yorkshire Monochrome Group and the YPU (bottom image) and Wakefield Camera Club. The day started with the customary Regional AGM (top image), which was so well attended and in the main, current committee members are standing, hopefully an additional couple of new members to help out with events to spread further across the region. A very sincere thank you to everyone who participated and took time to share experiences on the day. We have more café sessions/self help group and advisory days planned for the near future. The café sessions, you may have noticed, have changed format slightly in that we are able to offer a guiding hand in preparation presenting at an Advisory Day, followed by Distinction submission. Check the details on the RPS webpage www.rps.org I also hope that many of you have been to see the RPS IPE 160 in Barnsley, another chance to see some captivating images (closing 9th June).
