1. Introduction

Welcome to this October edition of our newsletter. Summer has gone after Storm Amy seemed to usher in Autumn. This makes for more interesting photography apparently, with moody skies and better light.

2. What has happened in the SE region since the last newsletter

The two events that have taken place had mixed success. The Banger racing at Smallfield Raceway, Horley, was only attended by three people plus a host after several people cancelled close to the date. The racing was excellent and great value if you were over 60, with only a £7 entrance fee. We have discussed the pros and cons of charging a small fee to cover our expenses and possibly deter so many people from cancelling. Our current thoughts are to stay with a free-to-attend scenario for now. I’d be very interested in any of your views.

The Margate high water click event was more successful; however, there were again three no-shows. The remaining seven of us enjoyed the Turner Centre, the beautiful sea front, and even some oysters. Check out the very wide variety of images we discussed over a follow-up Zoom in the ISSUU edition (link at the end of this).

Bewl Water TWT

This is part of the TWT programme of Inland Water walks. Bewl Water is SE of Royal Tunbridge Wells on the A21. It is the largest reservoir in the south east and has a total walk around it of 20 kilometres (12.9 miles). The reservoir was man-made and opened in 1978, supplying water to parts of Kent and Sussex. It is renowned for its beautiful nature walks.

The gentrification around St Pancras provides endless opportunities for street photography. There is no fee, just meet in a café and spend the day with like-minded people.

February 26

LRPS distinction online advisory day

We are planning to hold another online LRPS advisory day in February 2026, hopefully with David Jordan.

March 26

The ruins and sea are very photogenic, especially at high tide and with a long exposure. The date and time have been chosen to coincide with the tides.

April 26

Hole Park Estate is situated between the pretty Kent villages of Benenden and Rolvenden and a short distance from the historic Cinque Port town of Tenterden in a beautiful area of the High Weald National Landscape (formerly AONB).

May 2026

Click event: Samphire Hoe

Orchids are the main attraction on this outcrop generated from spoil from the Channel Tunnel.

June 2026

Early July 2026

British Wildlife Centre

Based at the British Wildlife Centre, Lingfield. A great opportunity to photograph native British wild animals up close. The price is very competitive, as it is only for this group, making it an excellent opportunity for photographers.
