Introduction
On 30 August 2025, twelve photographers from the Royal Photographic Society Central Region set out to capture the people who make the Bull Ring Markets such a vibrant part of Birmingham—the traders, the shoppers, the everyday characters whose faces tell the story of this iconic place. Their portraits reveal the diversity, texture, and rhythm of Birmingham life.
From this collective effort, twenty-four evocative images were selected for an exhibition displayed at the heart of the Bull Ring covered market. The show was both a thank-you to the traders for welcoming us into their world and, for many, a first encounter with a photographic exhibition right where their daily lives unfold.
Our heartfelt thanks go to:
• The Bull Ring Markets management, especially Donna and Peter, for supporting the photo walk and granting permission to exhibit in such a lively setting.
• The traders, for their openness and generosity in allowing us to create these environmental portraits.
• The photographers of the Central Region, for their enthusiasm, collaboration, and thoughtful curation of the final selection.
This project exceeded all expectations—an inspiring celebration of community, creativity, and the people who bring the Bull Ring Markets to life.
