“I had a three month internship with IHG in Corporate Responsibility, as part of the Change 100 programme. My role allowed me to explore what corporations can do on a global scale to help vulnerable communities and the environment, as there is often a stigma that it will be detrimental to profits. However, the most enjoyable part of my job was battling this stigma through fun and creative marketing and communication.
What actions am I going to take following the Careers and Placements Fair? (e.g. research online, attend a careers skills workshop)

My internship has provided me with a lot of good skills that I’ve been able to bring back to university for my final year. In particular, my time management has improved drastically which will be incredibly helpful when it comes to balancing coursework throughout the year.”

I was able to work on financial statements for a major fashion designer, get involved with corporate social responsibility initiatives and was treated like a permanent member of staff. I would definitely recommend a placement year, even if you don’t know what field you want to go into. I attended the autumn careers fair and it was very helpful to speak to employers face to face. It is much easier to get answers to any questions you have and engaging with the employers helps you gain a sense of what the company will be like.”
