A Buzz About Boarding

The Summer term has felt more “normal” in the boarding houses as most of our boarders were able to make it back and complete their quarantine over the Easter break. Despite still taking precautions to keep them safe, we are now managing to use the kitchens and common rooms more and these have been a hive of activity. We have created a ‘chill out’ space for the Year 9 boarders in the prep room with a sofa and bean bags where they can relax and socialise together. It has also been lovely to welcome back some familiar faces to flexible board and to warmly welcome those who have been trying out our flexible boarding option recently. We have a Golden Ticket offer of a free night in boarding for Year 7s, please do get in touch with me if you are interested.

This half of term we have been able to take more trips out and enhance the offering of activities to include outside companies. So far this term, Mrs Custodio has led a beautiful sunny Bath Skyline walk, a trip to the seaside town of Weymouth, in addition to Mini Golf in Bath, kickboxing and Jumpfit sessions here at school. A highlight this half term was christening our Pizza Oven with our Year 10s and 11s who prepared their own bases – the pizzas tasted fantastic!

We celebrated our boarders’ participation in the recent Dance Show with a viewing in the common room and additional live dance routines from our Year 8s. Congratulations to our Year 10 boarders who performed outstandingly in the Romia and Juliet production.

Our Year 11s have been working so hard on their continuous assessments this term, they really have embraced a mature work ethic, managing their time between study and relaxation to keep going. We fondly bid farewell to this year group as they move onto the sixth form.

The Year 12 boarders are all now finally back here together and really enjoying one another’s company. The new prefect team ran a bonding activity over the voluntary exeat weekend where they had a fun game of bench-ball followed by pizzas and ice cream. They are now working towards end of year assessments.

Keep an eye on exciting National Boarding Week programme for 21-27 June centred around health and wellbeing and we are also repeating our successful Cheese and Wine Tasting event on the Friday 25th June for our Year 12 boarders in Gloucester House. Mrs Custodio, Head of Boarding

Year 13 Boarders celebrate last day

We celebrated our wonderful Year 13 boarders with canapes and fizz on Monday 24th April as they are unable to stay for the end of term celebrations. The girls looked spectacular and it was fantastic to have key members of Sixth Form staff to raise a glass and remember the girls’ achievements across their Royal High School academic career. They are a special group of girls who have dealt so well with all that has been thrown at them during these two years and it will be an emotional farewell. We had speeches from Mrs Pullen, Mrs Harris, Mrs Reynolds and Mr Hayward as well as the girls themselves all followed by some spectacular cakes, lots of laughter and photos! We’ll miss you girls!
