SIXTH FORM

Continued from front page.
Our beloved Mr Hayward, Head of Sixth Form, gave an emotional speech about what a unique and special year group this has been and how the students will develop their ‘ipseity’ – their individuality – as they go out into the world and pursue their future personal, academic and professional careers.
After the speeches, the girls came up to receive prizes. First, the academic prizes, 28 in total spanning all subjects. Then the Tripos Awards for a small number of girls who have pursued this academic initiative. And finally, the special prizes awarded to girls who have shown commitment and integrity, kindness and originality, for example.

Friday 23rd April marked the last day for our fantastic Year 13 IB cohort. Congregated on the main front steps for their final school photos, the girls laughed and rejoiced, celebrating their time at the school. The sense of excitement for the future was contagious.
And there was a lot to celebrate. After surviving a pandemic, three lockdowns, IB coursework and exam cancellations, the girls have gone through a lot and at a key point in their academic careers. However, at every stage, they have shown strength of character and resilience. The skills they have developed this year will help them to make every success in their futures.
Ms. Jude Taylor, IB coordinator, said, “They have dealt with more uncertainty than most young people of their age, and have become remarkably resilient as a result.”
Mr. Nick Hayward, Head of Sixth Form, said: "I simply want to pay tribute to the most remarkable group of girls who have shown such extraordinary levels of resilience, spirit, verve and energy while in the Sixth Form."
The Quokka: Reviving the Sixth Form magazine
When Charlotte started Sixth Form in September 2019, she wanted to get involved with something at the school and step out of her comfort zone. Charlotte says, “I’d never really been interested in journalism or publishing and certainly had no experience leading a team, but I wanted to try something new. That’s when Mr. Hayward suggested I start up the Sixth Form magazine again.”
Now, three editions later, Charlotte is project manager to a team ranging between 10-15 contributors per edition (and growing!) and looking to hand over the reigns to a new set of year 12s as she moves on to university.
While Charlotte acts as project manager, her close friend, Elise, is the design lead ensuring every page is beautifully illustrated.
Each edition is unique but there are always key articles on science, politics, art, and creative writing.
Despite the lockdown causing a delay to the publication of some of the editions, Charlotte and Elise are really proud of their work reviving the Sixth Form magazine.
Mr Hayward, Head of Sixth Form said, “Quokka is joyous, quirky, girl-centred, journalistic, funny and informative. It captures a lot about the Sixth Form.”
