My life as a tabler - Marius Louw

When I was asked to write an article about my life as a tabler, my first reaction was – where does one start? Table has been a part of my life so long, that is has become a part of my own identity.

In 2010, I was invited to a Roundtable Meeting by Frans Henning (now also 41er), and it has been a lifechanging journey.

Table, and especially Roundtable Bloemfontein 25, taught me very important life, business and all manner of other lessons that I apply in my everyday life, personally and in a business environment. The friendships (brotherhood) that have been built with fellow tablers over the years will always have a very special place in my heart.

In 2013, I had the privilege to be Chairman of Roundtable Bloem 25 which was an immense honour and challenged me to grow in a personal capacity. In my table career, I was also the winner of the “prestigious” Night Owl Trophy 9 times – a sign of appreciation i.r.o. my endurance on social events which I thoroughly enjoyed!

Roundtable also afforded me the opportunity to travel and give back to the community, whilst having fun. Being able to be involved in projects where we really made a difference in people’s lives, makes a big difference in how you view the world and yourself.

I will always treasure the memories of projects/functions and events, as well as the ultimate annual party of the year – ARTSA.

Lastly, I want to encourage every current, and future, tabler to start, continue and endure their journey at Roundtable with motivation, pride and empathy, to utilise the opportunities provided by this esteemed organisation to travel, make friends and ultimately make a difference … Adopt, Adapt, Improve. Before you realise it, your journey will have reached its’ end and the leisurely table of the 41’ers now awaits …

When I began my journey as a Tabler, one of the key projects that stood out every year was Winter Knights. Coming from a family where multiple members were Tablers themselves, Winter Knights was always a project that was touched on in multiple conversations as well as being present and acknowledged within the village of Kenton.

This being the biggest project I have run to date, my mission was to initially identify what the common traits were surrounding the project, the general logistics and operations pertaining to it and focusing on the key areas which would make the largest impact. The main contributions within our area, that being food, were arranged alongside conversations held with our local and neighboring Spar and SaveMor outlets, situated in Kenton on Sea and Alexandria. Mr Craig Theunissen and Mr Christo Pienaar were instrumental in allowing Alex/Kenton 210 to conduct the collections planned for the 2 towns and our thanks go out to them for their continued support.

Johnston, who instrumental in ensuring that the collections were distributed to those truly in need.

I would like to thank my fellow Tablers for assisting me with carrying out a project, which creates such a large impact within our community. Your continued support and tenacious drive have and continue to push each individual as well as the Table as a whole towards greater heights and furthermore creating a #impactfulchange.
