The growth of the 45 number in Round Table Southern Africa, written by Melcolm van
der Spuy.Logo history
Like all logos around the world, every one has a story and a sentimental meaning behind it.
This is our story.
45 Chairman Russel Human, Chairman of Matlosane 45, writes about his expectations for the year that lies ahead.
We are thrilled to be recognized for our efforts and are inspired to continue striving towards excellence.
The 45's Alive mind set is the next step in this journey. By creating a stronger table that represents the best of Matlosane 219 and Klerksdorp 45, we hope to inspire other tables in the STNOFS area to aim higher and achieve greater things.
To achieve this goal, we will be drawing on the skills and expertise of all our members. Everyone has something to contribute, and we believe that by working together, we can create something truly special.
Round Table Matlosane 45 has finally launched at the STNOFS AGM and there is noting more to say than "45's Alive". This exciting change aims to create one of the strongest table in the STNOFS area, showcasing the best that Round Table has to offer.
We are proud to say that we are already well on our way towards achieving this goal. At the recent STNOFS AGM, Matlosane 45 took home more than 4 awards, including "Table of the Year" and “Dr David Smith 10 Year Service Award".
These awards are a testament to the hard work and dedication of all our members.
We are excited about the potential of new 45 and are looking forward to continuing our journey towards excellence. We believe that this change will not only benefit Matlosane 45, but will also inspire other tables in the STNOFS area to strive for greatness.
In 2021 Russel Human that was a tabler in Rustenburg 54 transferred to Klerksdorp 45 and they were only two members. After a few months of hard work, they grew Klerksdorp 45 up to four members. It was enough to get the table up and running but we knew we had greater plans with Round table in Klerksdorp. Matlosane 219 was a great table build of “GEES” and teamwork, they were a close group of strong and ambitious tablers. One day in 2022 the two tables came together to work together on a project. That was the beginning of Matlosane 45. After a great success the two tables had an idea of bringing back the Klerksdorp table that once was in the 80’s. With long and hard discussions of how they would make the merge work in both the tables favour the plan was in action. After many meetings and voting the name Matlosane 45 was born. The two tables saw that working together in the same community served for the greater good for building Round Table stronger in Klerksdorp.
Round table Matlosane 45’S logo has a long and rich history. In 1956 Klerksdorp 45 was founded by Jack Applebaum and after many years of growth it became one of the biggest tables in South-Africa.23 Years later the table had more than 50 members, with that being said came many challenges. Struggling to work out a way to get every tabler involved and focusing on how to serve the community best. With so many members they decided to split in 1979 and then Matlosane 219 was born in 1980. It was a great success and the two tables worked together to build Klerksdorp into the great place it is today. Years later the table community hit a low with all the 41’ers leaving and little growth in both tables the members got to an all time low.
The symbol of the two people dancing in harmony is the main logo of our city. It is close to us at Matlosane 45, because our own tablers Jan-Albert De Kock’s mother was one of the designers of the main logo. Klerksdorp is a city that was build on mining and agriculture and still to this day it is the main income for the town. One of the statue is holding a pick axe to symbolise the great mining expeditions that was held over the years in the town, and the greatness that it brought. The other statue is holding a piece of corn to show the many farms and farmers out and around the town, without them they would not have made the town as strong as it is. Klerksdorp is a beautiful place with some of the best people, we at Matlosane 45 are proud to be apart of it, and show every story about our tables history in the logo.
Being a chairman of any organization is an important and crucial role on which the success of the organization is heavily based. The role of a chairman is not just confined to leading the meetings or representing the organization in public forums, but it involves much more than that. A chairman is a leader who sets the tone for the organization, motivates the team, creates and executes the vision and strategy, and works towards achieving the goals set by the organization.
It is important to understand the expectations of a chairman and the responsibilities that come with the role. Here are some of the key expectations of a chairman:
-Leadership: Leadership is the most important expectation of a chairman. A chairman needs to be a leader who can inspire the team to work towards the organizational goals. A good chairman sets the tone for the organization by creating a positive and productive work environment.
-Vision and Strategy: A chairman needs to have a clear vision and strategy for the organization. This vision should be communicated to the entire team so that everyone is aligned and working towards the same set of goals. A good chairman should also be open to feedback and able to adjust the strategy as needed.
-Communication: A chairman needs to be an effective communicator who can clearly articulate the organization's mission, values, and goals to the team, stakeholders, and the public. Communication is key to creating a culture of transparency and openness within the organization.
-Ethics: A chairman needs to lead by example in terms of ethics and integrity. It is important for a chairman to establish a culture of ethical behaviour within the organization and to ensure that all team members adhere to the highest ethical standards.
-Collaboration: A chairman needs to be a team player who can collaborate with other board members, senior executives, and team members to achieve the goals of the organization. Collaboration ensures that everyone is working towards the same goals and that the organization is moving in the right direction.
-Performance: A good chairman should be focused on performance and accountability. They should set clear performance metrics and hold themselves and their team members accountable for achieving them.
In conclusion, the role of a chairman is multifaceted, but it is their leadership skills, vision and strategy, communication skills, ethics, collaboration, and focus on performance that set good chairmen apart from the rest. Aspiring chairmen should take note of these expectations, and work to develop these skills to become a successful chairman
I was recently honoured with the "Dr David Smith 10 year Service Award" from Round Table Southern Africa in recognition of my decade-long commitment to the organization.
It all started in 2012, when Jandre Barnard invited me to a meeting at Matlosane 219. Today, I remain an active member of the organization, now at Matlosane 45. During a recent meeting of Round Table STNOFS Area in Potchefstroom,
I was presented with the award in appreciation of my unwavering dedication and contribution to the organization over the past 10 years.
Throughout my tenure, I have been a driving force behind many of Round Table's community initiatives, including fundraising events, volunteer work, and more.
Service Award is a tribute to the hard work and dedication of members like myself, who have made significant contributions to their communities through their service.
Receiving the Dr David Smith 10-year Service Award is a great honour, and I am deeply committed to Round Table Southern Africa and the work we do. This recognition means a great deal to me, and I am grateful for the support and encouragement of my fellow Round Table members over the years.
I am proud to be a part of this organization, and I look forward to continuing to serve and make a difference in the years to come. Once again, I express my heartfelt gratitude for this prestigious award and to all those who have supported me along the way.
As an organization, Round Table Southern Africa is dedicated to making a positive impact on the communities we serve. The Dr David Smith 10-year
We are here to build (develop) FELLOWSHIPS (friendship) between young men, not flex our “man hood” , we are here to foster RESPONSIBLE citizenship, not promote negativity, to offer an
EXCELLENT medium of service to our community, not half heartily in service. This is what table is for me and how I strive to table, to be recognized and appreciated for me being me and living my fullest for TABLE, is one of my greatest achievements I've received. For that and all its brought to my life, goals and dreams, I thank this wonderful organization. A few important steps to success and greatness. Know yourself, start without hesitation, be small goal driven first, set long term goals, focus on what you want to achieve and not be haltered by limitations, track your progress, set metrics, and learn for successful cases first, then innovate, FIND A COACH.
In closing - fear kills more dreams than failure ever will.
A mister WINSTON CHURCHILL described success as not final, and failure is not fatal, but rather that it is the courage to continue. In my table career I have also found this to be true, much like traffic lights managing the flow of traffic, Ive received green lights, move with caution and stop lights. ROUNDTABLE traffic light is managing the flow of my live, goals and dreams, and has done so for the last 8 years. With many green lights most of them in succession and a few move with caution lights, to halter my speed and make sure I move in the right direction. But mostly stop lights, there where I needed to change my direction, perception and to grow, because without failure, we can not grow. Success has different meanings for all of us, and can be defined as such.
. Success is defined for me as followsthe promotion and recognition of myself as myself, for achieving the goals that are in my reach, and are reachable with my specific talents and gifts.
The BICEP - the muscle for show, our men have been conditioned from a young age, to show our muscles and flex our bicep’s as a promotion of our man hood. It is a big bulky muscle and if you aren’t careful in how big it becomes, one has the risk of not even wiping your own ass. BUT the TRICEP - the working man muscle,
the one not on show, the one that does all the heavy lifting, and puts the food on the table. Is the one I've always wanted to live by, “less impressed and more involved”-Matthew McConaughey. It is easy to do a few things for show, it looks important and feels important and sometimes tastes important, but like a Afrikaans saying goes “dit het niks met die prys van eiers tedoen nie”.
The last Annual General Meeting (AGM) of Round Table Klerksdorp 45 was held on February 16th, 2023, and it was a great success. The AGM is an important event in the life of any organization, as it provides an opportunity to review the achievements of the past year and to plan for the future.
During the AGM, the members of the Round Table Klerksdorp 45 voted in a new council to lead the organization for the next year as Matlosane 45. The newly elected council members are as follow:

They have already begun planning new projects and events for the coming year, and they are excited for what lies ahead. We would like to congratulate Melcolm van der Spuy on winning the Tabler of the year at Klerksdorp 45.
In addition to the election of the new council members, the AGM was also an opportunity to announce some exciting news. The Round Table Matlosane 45 is making history by merging Klerksdorp 45 and Matlosane 219. This merger will create a stronger and more unified organization, with a greater capacity to make a positive impact in our community.
Round Table Matlosane 45 is a dynamic and vibrant organization, and the AGM was a testament to the commitment and dedication of its members. As we look forward to the future, we are excited to see the impact that the new council members will make, and the positive changes that will come as a result of the merger with Klerksdorp 45 and Matlosane 219.

This Magazine is all about 45. We think that our table is strong enough to make history in the tabeL community. We also want a way to reach the global 45 group with this and show them what their brothers in Round Table Southern Africa is doing . YIT
