Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen in transit On 14 January 2019, the iconic Van der Steur building, the famous court (brick) museum wing that was built about ninety years ago, will close. From mid-January, the removal of the permanent collection of the museum will start. The exhibition wing of Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen will remain open until 26 May 2019. The museum closes with a spectacular Bauhaus exhibition, a selection of the highlights from the collection and an exhibition dedicated to the Rotterdam artist Co Westerik (1924-2018). 1
netherlands bauhaus - pioneers of a new world 2019 is the centenary of the founding of the Bauhaus, the revolutionary art and design school. Almost 800 objects provide a unique insight into the inspirational interactions between the Netherlands and the Bauhaus. 9 February - 26 May 2019

Co Westerik – Everyday Wonder The exhibition transports the visitor into Westerik’s experiential world, in which the everyday becomes something special. Alongside 50 works by the artist, the presentation includes six diaries. 9 February - 26 May 2019

2 Kunsthal Rotterdam The Kunsthal Rotterdam is housed in a striking building designed by OMA/Rem Koolhaas (1992). The Kunsthal presents several exhibitions simultaneously, taking visitors on a journey through various cultures and art movements. From modern masters and contemporary art to forgotten cultures, photography, fashion and innovative design.

Trouble in Paradise The Kunsthal Rotterdam presents an extraordinary selection of contemporary art works from the private collection of art collector Rattan Chadha, the founder of Mexx and the hotel chain citizenM. At its heart is the human condition, with art by renowned international artists. The exhibition will feature a selection of over seventy works – varying from paintings and sculptures to installations and video art. 7 February - 26 May 2019
DID YOU KNOW? Picasso on Paper marks the start of ‘Boijmans Next Door’, a collaboration between a number of museums to keep part of the Boijmans collection visible over the coming years.
Picasso on Paper For Pablo Picasso (1881-1973) graphic art was a medium he could experiment with to his heart’s content. Picasso produced over 2,500 prints in a great variety of techniques. Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen has nearly 400 of these prints in its collection, a selection of which will be shown at the Kunsthal. Highlights in the exhibition include the colour linocut of still lifes, bull fights, scenes from mythology and especially women. 9 February - 12 May 2019

Shadows | Alfredo Jaar At the core of Alfredo Jaar’s installation is a photograph by Dutch photographer Koen Wessing. The photograph is a poignant image of two grief-stricken Nicaraguan women who have just learned of their father’s murder. Jaar transforms the visualisation of universal emotions into a work of astonishing dimensionality. 26 January - 12 May 2019

Kennedy Funeral Train | The People’s View Artist Rein Jelle Terpstra has created a visual reconstruction of the ‘funeral train’ – the train that, on 8 June 1968, transported the mortal remains of the murdered politician Robert F. 7 TENT TENT is an exhibition room and addresses significant and current developments in contemporary art through varied exhibitions and events. TENT is a stepping stone for young artists, an ambassador for Rotterdam’s art, and positions visual art from the city in a local, national and international context.
Post-Opera The project Post-Opera cross-examines developments in contemporary opera and visual art in order to explore the changing relationship between the body and the voice today. The project is an initiative of guestcurators Kris Dittel (visual arts curator) and Jelena Novak (musicologist), and will be realised through a special collaboration between TENT, Operadagen Rotterdam and V2_Lab for the Unstable Media.
