Children and Young People’s Services Family Placement Service

Long Term Foster Carers Needed Long term foster care is the framework in which many vulnerable children live their lives and it holds the key to their future well being and happiness. For many children a long term foster family is the child’s best chance of a secure family life. Can you offer a heartfelt commitment to supporting a child through childhood and beyond, whatever the future might bring? Tom is eight years old and lives with his brother, Joe, in a short term placement. Tom likes playing computer games and playing outdoors; especially cycling. He loves being around other children. He likes school and is now catching up with his education after a period of haphazard school attendance. His behaviour at school is described as excellent although a further assessment is necessary to ascertain his full developmental and educational needs. Tom has already experienced a chaotic and unstable lifestyle, resulting in aggressive and unpredictable behaviour. Since being in the care of the Local Authority, and with firm boundaries, this has improved significantly. Tom is thriving with the love and consistency he deserves. Tom and his brother now need a foster family who can care for him on a long term basis through to independence and continue with the progress already made over the past 12 months.

Joe, Tom’s half brother, is 4 years old. He, like his brother, is fit and well. Joe is a lively child who enjoys playing with construction toys and art activities such as drawing and painting. He attends nursery and is progressing well. Joe loves interacting with other children. Joe and Tom have been cared for in a short term placement for the past 12 months and now need the permanence and stability of a long term foster family. Joe, too, showed aggressive behaviours when first placed but this has improved significantly with positive reinforcement and firm boundaries. The boys are dependant and loyal to one another. It is important that they are given the life chances and opportunities to develop as individuals. It is also important to note that a placement for both boys, together only, is being sought. If you feel you have the commitment, space, time and energy to care for these 2 boys long term, please contact Carol Stickland, Fostering Recruitment Training and Assessment on 01709 823976

If you feel you would be suitable, or would like to discuss it further, please contact the Fostering Team at:

Veronica is a lively, chatty and sociable 13 year old girl who enjoys the attention of adults. She likes reading, writing, drawing, swimming and music. She is also a popular member of a drama group and enjoys going ice skating occasionally with her friends. Veronica enjoys school and is average academically. She has no specific special educational needs and is making satisfactory progress. Veronica likes to attend after school activities. Veronica has 2 siblings with whom she has regular and positive contact. It is important that this is maintained. She also has occasional and less frequent contact with her Mum. It is anticipated that this will also continue. We are looking for a “forever” family for Veronica. Someone who can care for her on a long term basis. This could be a single carer or a couple but it would be preferable if Veronica is the youngest child within the family so that she can be afforded the care and attention she has missed out on. If you think you can offer a nurturing, caring and stable home for Veronica, please contact Carol Stickland, Fostering Recruitment Training and Assessment on 01709 823976
