Rotaract has been a vital part of my life ever since I finished high school. Prior to that I was part of Interact of my last 2 years of High School which was late for me to take up a position and to engage with the activities of Interact. Hence, I wanted to join Rotaract from the time I’m eligible and this is how I became part of a Charter club heading the community service back home in Colombo, Sri Lanka. Rotaract thought me to Interact with people of different perspectives in life and to sympathize. This made me much mature growing up and when I stepped in Dubai with my Rotaract Journey it’s been a wonderful learning experience.
Rotaract helped me find me the people I can call true friends and who became family. Like-minded people who are there for the common purpose of serving the community and learn along that way supporting each other at all times. Such an optimistic community had pushed me from thinking out of the box and get comfortable with all the uncertainties out there which helped me become who I am today.
I’m grateful to my role as the District Treasurer which I would want to use to support our beloved district clubs’ treasurers by being there to adopt the new policies of Elevate of Rotaract. I believe that our best years are ahead of us. To harness the potential of the future of our Rotaract District with the plan that aligns with challenges and opportunities we face. We as a District, trying to be the most Compliant District and we need to think, work and enjoy as Rotaractors marching towards this goal.
Today Rotary is composed of 46000+ Clubs which are organized into 530 Districts, however did you know that these Districts are as well organized into bigger entities called Zones?
Our organization is composed of 34 zones. Zones are paired for the purpose of selecting Directors who sit on Rotary International's governing board. So, there are 17 Rotary International Directors elected to serve 2-year terms.
We, as District 2452 are part of Zone 21B (Zone 21 is divided into A & B but this is not the case for every zone).
Each Zone has regional teams who use their knowledge and skills to support and strengthen the clubs. Rotary’s regional leaders serve for three-year terms and are the following:
-Regional Rotary Foundation Coordinator - RRFCs
-Rotary Coordinators - RCs
-Rotary Public Image Coordinators - RPICs
-Endowment/Major Gift Advisers - E/MGAs
-End Polio Now Coordinators
Now that we know a bit more about our zone; What is a Zone Institute? Each year, District and senior leaders attend Rotary institutes to share information, build connections, and exchange ideas about Rotary International and The Rotary Foundation
The institute usually meets for 3 to 5 days, and the program includes: Updates on Rotary Foundation, repost on polio eradication, 5-year forecast presented by a director, open forum for recommendations to the board, speakers addressing different topics… In addition to a chance to network, reconnect with friends and find inspiration.
Our Zone Institute took place last month, 9th till 13th November, in Limassol Cyprus. It was truly a pleasure to attend such a nicely organized regional event hosted in our District 2452. These events are a chance to enhance our involvement within the Rotary family, meet Leaders from our Zone (and beyond), learn from their success stories, build for future partnerships… and much more.
I had the chance to take part in a panel moderated by Past RI Director Katerina Kotsali-Papadimitriou and with 3 other Rotarians (from Egypt, Cyprus & Austria) we discussed the topic of: Diversity, Equity & Inclusion.
Moreover 1 panel was fully dedicated to Rotaract and was led by our Past DRR Emil Moawad having our DRR Maggie Poposka as 1 of the 4 panellists.
Last but not least, a big thank you to Past RID Katherina Kotsali-Papadimitriou, RRFC/PDG Christina Covotsou-Patroclou and the Cyprus team for putting so many efforts for making this event a memorable and enriching one to all of us.
Our Next Zone Institute is taking place in Bucharest next year, Try to Make it!
Rotary's top priority is the eradication of polio, but our members take on far greater responsibilities to fight disease. They set up health camps and training facilities in undeveloped countries and in communities struggling with HIV/AIDS and malaria. They also design and build the infrastructure for doctors, nurses, governments, and partners to reach the one in six people in the world who can't afford to pay for healthcare.
This is one of the Foundations Areas of Focus and one in which many of us would be aware of the numerous projects around the world supported by clubs and the Foundation.
Disease prevention and treatment takes on many forms, from supporting studies to helping immunize people to improving drinking water and the sanitation infrastructure. The world relies on Rotary to tackle these global challenges, and to set an example for others to follow.
Look at your role in promoting improved health at home and abroad and supporting these vital programs that contribute not only to healthy communities but peaceful communities.

Are you looking for an amazing experience to develop yourself and connect with like-minded individuals? Then RYLA is for you!
This year’s District RYLA in Lebanon was truly excpetional, where more than 70 chosen participants from all over Lebanon and abroad, attended. This year's RYLA was themed: “ Back to the future”, and I had the honor to be part of a beautiful team headed by the RYLA District Chairperson Victoria Cherfan.
The two-days program consisted of futuristic workshops given by high caliber speakers whose aim was to provide the participants with a mindset that enables them to overcome and transform today’s challenges and uncertainty into a prosperous gateway, along with fun activities. What I expected to witness was the skill developing aspect, however, what was beautiful to see was the bonds and connections that were made by Rotaractors. Indeed, RYLA is a professional program that enables you to develop your skills, but what truly made this year's RYLA special was the friendships and connections made.
I am very happy and honored to have shared this experience with all the Rotaractors in lebanon.
In the end, RYLA stands for Rotary Youth & Leadership Award, and in fact, your attendance by itself is an award!
Rotaractly yours, P.Elise Nassif
hope it is all going great and you are surviving the n your clubs.
are scary, maybe discouraging and annoying, but it is at they are always there to prepare us for things much comes to managing newly established or young Rotaract rtage for challenges. The thing is about learning how to ddress them sustainably and make a clear action plan for help and guide the future leaders as well.
van, during the one and a half years of operation we have low elements that spared us time, bottlenecks, and may be useful for you too, so let’s dig into it.
ced when I started my year of presidency was the lack of mbers after a month long summer break. In case of lack of cial to understand the reason and only then try to solve it. uzzling, because usually we come back more energized ever, sometimes rest can backfire on, so too much rest is not good also. After all, it was time to get everyone back in their working shoes! In order to get the working atmosphere back and boost the team’s productivity, we started to schedule one-on-one meetings only between the president and each member. During one-on-one meetings you enhance the bond and the trust between you and your team, and it helps them feel more valued, and more importantlyneeded and essential for the well-being of the club. The excitement started to gradually increase, we got back to our workflow and the club’s spirit returned. However, lack of motivation has a tendency of recurring, so never stop having oneon-ones with the team, always be aware of mental state of each and everyone in the team.
Second major challenge was the lack of self-reflection. I believe no good work can be done without a glance back at what you are doing and how you are doing it. Progress comes with working on your mistakes, learning from them and sharing your knowledge with others. That is why in order to solve this issue and provide the team a platform where they can concentrate on reviewing their performance we adapted a retrospective analysis method. Retrospective is a non-traditional meeting which usually once a month, where instead of the regular agenda we analyze our work, productivity, mental health and everything related to club and ourselves. Each member is required to voice the biggest problems they believe we have in the club, and suggest possible solutions. This turned out to be a great tool for improving problem-solving and critical thinking skills, as well as help get better as a working group of people, always striving for better results
Third challenge was weak initiativeness Have you ever heard the saying “Not everyone can be a leader, some people are born to follow”? I could not disagree more and I do believe leadership and initiativeness are skills we learn by time and by experience Because of all the different backgrounds we come from and our levels of experience, some members are more eager to initiate things than others, and that is totally normal However, we wanted to change that and help everyone be ready to address problems they witness and lead others to act for change For this reason, we decided that every year each member has to self-initiate, manage, lead and implement a personal project After some time we will definitely increase the frequency of projects, but one project a year is a good start This helps to train members’ mind and creativity firstly, then members improve their accountability, resource management, leadership and communication skills My favorite part however, is watching the professional growth and the boost of self-confidence in the team
Knowing your core values brings you closer to being your most authentic self Moreover, discovering who you truly are is the wellspring for having a richer, more meaningful life.

Our members visited AFEL for a Career Orientation Workshop to share each of their unique stories and experiences that shaped their lives and careers today. Afel's programs include caring for children directly by providing a shelter home for abused children, an after-school safe centre, a remedial school, a youth club and assumer camp.
The club's members came together in a project led by Georges Chami and shared each of their unique stories and experiences that shaped their lives and careers today in an orientation workshop for underprivileged adolescents at the AFEL Children Center on Saturday, 26th of November
The career tracks the members represented included engineering, law, nutrition, PR and marketing, architecture, entrepreneurship, and a career that turned out to be most popular, a career as a professional rugby player! After each of the members' presentations, the children asked questions and discussed their options one on one at interactive application stations
